My stomach is always sending me signals
Ness2045 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My stomach sends me signals ALL day long. I don't know how to interpret them. I don't know if my stomach is empty and I should eat because I'm told I'll no longer receive hunger signals...so what am I feeling? After I eat a little, I still feel my stomach. I don't overeat. I don't know how to explain it. It's sending me signals and wants attention, but I don't know how to make it stop. Before the surgery, I only heard my stomach when I was hungry, and when I fed it I didn't feel it anymore. Now I feel it all the time. It's not in my head; it's physical. It's like a crying baby...I've fed it, burped it, changed it, rocked it, and it's still crying. I don't know what to do. I don't feel sick necessarily...just...off. I just want to feel normal. I'm only three weeks out from my surgery. Did anyone else experience this? Does it go away or get better? I just want to NOT feel my stomach ALL the time. Also, I burp A LOT. After every sip of water, after everything I eat. Does this help shed light on my issues? I'm feeling very lonely...like I'll never feel like a normal person again. Any thoughts on what I'm experiencing would be most appreciated. Thanks. -
I'm nine weeks post op and my nutritionist said if I wanted to do keto now I could. It's exactly what we should be doing, high protein, low carb, good fats. I'm pondering it as I haven't done it before but I have researched it extensively before my surgery and up here " in the country " I have access to getting half a grass fed cow, raising my own chickens, I have my own organic garden, etc. Vermont everything is local, fresh and non gmo etc. BUT it's expensive, hence buying half a cow part. and I applaud and even admire anyone who has had WLS and is vegan, that seems like a lot of work and I am not bashing your choices. I never thought about it as my choice but seeing some of the protein sources they are not as high as traditional meat. Of course i am not a vegan and don't know. Both are lifestyles and choices. I Anyway, good luck with whatever way you want to do. With the no dairy I'm still on the fence, even though i do lactose free milk (fairlife) because its lactose free and has 5 more grams of protein per serving.

Did you feel incomplete after surgery?
YeahOkay31 replied to MizzNewLife's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I get what you are saying. After my surgery I said to my husband, " I no longer come with all the original parts." It is a bit...unsettling. Years ago in my early 20s I toyed around with the idea of being a nurse and was briefly in nursing school. Turns out after the kitty dissection portion of my classes, nursing was not for me. But I digress--one of my professors, an old, crotchety gentleman was asked by a student what were his views on gastric bypasses. He wrote some formula on the board--basically I guess the BMR and said if you burn more calories than you eat, you'll loss weight. Period. And then he followed up by saying, "Never, ever let some one cut you open unnecessarily." I took this to heart for many years and was very anti-WLS, not only because I agreed with his sentiments, but because I had managed to lose over 100 pounds on my own, so I knew what was possible. Years later after watching an HBO doc on obesity I saw how fat people's metabolisms are forever changed by their fatness. It is always going to be harder to lose and keep it off once you are fat. And I thought--that is astronomically unfair! Total BS! That is when I truly started to consider weight loss surgery. Yeah, its sorta a cheat, but our bodies are not playing fair, so why should we? It is scary to think about forever altering one's body and doing an elective procedure, but for some people you pass a point of no return and changing the game (and your body) is the only way to win. If it is any consolation, you won't really know it is gone. -
Breastfeeding right after surgery?
Sleeved36 replied to MizzNewLife's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Most meds are safe while nursing, bring it up with your team. They should know your situation beforehand bc they can choose safer medications to give you. This could allow you to not have to dump at all. Example: for nausea zofran is better than phenergan if you are nursing. Definately bring your pump. Hospitals have them, but not outside of OB. They could track one down for you, but if the nurses are busy it could take a long time. Some surgical groups want you to be done nursing b4 surgery bc your body will be in starvation mode. That being said, baby is eating other food too and not relying on you for total nutrition so it might be ok. I totally get baby led weaning, it is what I did. One decided to be done at 15 months, the other at 18 months. I started the surgical process as soon as I was done nursing. Even if they make you wait it shouldn't be too long. Unless you plan on nursing until preschool, but that would be another issue for another forum. Lol 😄 -
Had mine removed March 21st and revised to Bypass... wish I had just gone with the bypass back in 2011 and not deal with the crappy band for so long... I didn't have any major complications exactly, I got stuck on foods I shouldn't, couldn't ever get to the "sweet spot", leafy greens hurt to eat, lots of bs overall. But no erosion, slippage, etc. However, when my surgeon went to remove my band, it was 100% completely encapsulated in scar tissue and took them over 3 times longer to remove than it should have. I have no idea what would have happened if I hadn't had it removed!

I think this is the Mexico forum, but I had originally contacted smart shape two years ago, and then again last week. They are charging $19000 plus you pay for airfare & 1 week hotel stay (if your not from that area) So in the end I opted for Mexico, and I'm scheduled for August. 11th I'm guessing your in BC?

Not Your Typical Pre Op Diet Post

My husband has been supportive through this process. He just loves me for me, doesn't care about a few extra pounds, just doesn't want to be married to a hangry b***h. He doesn't understand bc he is naturally lean and buff. He eats a ton of bad food, works out a little, and still looks like a fitness model. I hate him a little for it. My body has changed a lot over the years. He wears the same size pants as when we married. A little more ear hair tho 😉 -
Family Causing Second Thoughts about surgery
YeahOkay31 replied to Squiddly's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I didn't tell most of my family because I didn't need opinions from the peanut gallery--I knew most would not be helpful and would be against it. And they have reason to be: people do gain the weight back. I know several people (friends, colleagues, family members) who have gained back considerable amounts of weight after WLS, far more than I know people that have been long term successful. And yes, and there are the possible side effects. I am living with one of them right now. I won't BS you, it is a gamble. I knew that going in. At the end of the day, you take your shot, for good or for ill. Maybe you got what it takes to be one of the lucky success stories, maybe not. Sometimes discipline and following the program to the letter does not get you the results you want--sometimes your body is just an a**hole and doesn't care how hard you are trying. However as Wayne Gretzky said, "you miss 100% of the shots you don't take." This is your body, your future, and only your decision. As long as you go into this with eyes wide open, you'll do fine. -
Not Your Typical Pre Op Diet Post
Sleeved36 replied to TakingABreak's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I was definately grumpy about not being able to eat post-op, but that was head hunger and grieving for food. My program allowed scrambled eggs and yogurt/cottage cheese on the liquid diet. After I tried scrambled eggs I felt immediately full and it was tough to digest them. This helped me to see that I really needed just liquids for a while and that it was head hunger bc my body wasn't ready for anything else. It was probably better for my family that I wasn't a grumpy, hangry b***h for 2 weeks before surgery. Just for a little bit after. 😉 I did a low-carb diet once a few years ago (Way pre-op). One day when I got home from work my husband had made mac and cheese and poured a glass of wine. He told me to eat it bc he would rather me be round than bitchy. -
Not Your Typical Pre Op Diet Post
Sleeved36 replied to TakingABreak's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My pre-op diet was just a healthy eating plan. It was meant to mimic long term eating post-op. Protien first, then veggies and fruit, carbs last if you have room. Nutritionist visits to educate on healthy eating and post-op phases. No weight loss mandates for me, just couldn't gain. Some loss is preferred. No liquid diet pre-op except for 1 day of clear liquids the day before. My program is very critical of programs that require 2 weeks liquid diet bc it does not teach healthy eating, just starvation dieting. And I totally agree. If I could starve myself thin, I would have done it already. -
Not a kilo lost through Gastric Sleeve :(
sarhgrif replied to Saddy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hoped to have dumping bc of bypass. Honestly I’ve had dumping symptoms due to fast food too. If dumping is a result of eating things you shouldn’t, it prevents you from doing it again. Which for me was a huge positive. Let’s be honest, there’s absolutely no reason to eat sweets or junk food. I’ve cut out so much significantly. I’ve never heard of someone being hospitalized due to dumping. I guess you could go but not much they can do for you. I’ve never thrown up due to dumping but learned my lesson pretty quickly. It keeps me from trying others so that’s good for me. Dumping sucks but it keeps me on track. I still have to hold my self accountable as it doesn’t do it for everything. sarhgrif replied to Saddy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I opted for bypass bc I knew sweets were my biggest problem, I was really hoping for bad dumping even if I touched a sweet. I wasn’t lucky to get that but still at this point it’s better than craving sweets. I literally might only mentally crave a sweet maybe once a week. I take one maybe two bites and I’m finished. I needing help detoxing from sugar. It’s extremely addictive. But I’m hoping even if I’m the future I’m able to eat it more that I’m so used to not eating it now that I will find it satisfying after a couple of bites or perhaps a serving rather than a whole box!!! Haha. Don’t let yourself get back into the habit though. I’m sure you could push through and then get hooked back on it. No regrets at all only wish I would have done it sooner! Good luck. Surgery 2/27 I was 363 Today 297.6!!!!!!! Hw-378 Sw- 363 (2/27/18) CW-299 -

For everybody, I’m i day 3 and on ice chips.... my stomach cramps after every ice chip.... how long did the cramping last for you if you had any? Also did any other women get there menstrual cycle right after surgery? I’m on a BC patch and still got my cycle thought that was weird. -
I’m a big believer in the Enmend too! I’ve always hated the nausea after surgery and with pain killers more than the pain and It was amazing! Had it for my plastics as well. For pain Tylenol IV is pretty great too. Oral Tylenol has never done a thing for me but IV is a whole different story! They don’t like to use it bc for some reason it’s way more expensive than narcotics! I did have norco to take home but didn’t like it. I also had something else IV when I wanted it but I never did.

@Diva302The reason I asked is bc I've never known a full DSER to have success with the patches. Keep a very watchful eye on your bloods as time goes on.

My little ears perked up when I heard you were or are there. Where will you have your surgery ? Are you, private pay or going through National/ Provincial Health Schemes? We once had LesleyBari who lived in the Rockies close to Alberta nut was flying to Vancouver for her surgery. Many have wished to visit the Yukon for its wild country,Me, my dream is to someday see the Peace River country for, myself. That was my romantic dream as a teenager and it still lurks in the back of my mind.

Wait, you're already at 264? Are you freakin kidding me? What are you doing, Seahawks? O M G I am so proud of you. And didn't you have your surgery on.. Man, I can't remember. My doctor me with me AFTER , literally day after this post and said at this point he'd have liked to see me @ 30 lbs less. I've grieved this for two days and let it fuel me to kick some ass. I was upset bc I have done everything I know to do. He did acknowledge some of my weight training may be the reason for the slower weight loss. I am pissed lol Hugs. So proud of you. -
