    Stall?

I have heard that there is a 3 week stall as well as a 3 month stall. Has anyone experienced the 3 month stall? Cause that is where I am right now. Sent from my XT1080 using the BariatricPal App
  2. In another post you said that you have cheated a few times. Have you stopped cheating? (I'm trying to be helpful not critical so don't be offended) Are you getting enough Protein? That is really important My dr has cheese on the list of things I can never eat again I'm not sure why he thinks it's so bad, I will have to ask him at my appointment I'm sure it will start to fall off soon. It could be the 3 week stall.
  3. Sounds to me like you are doing everything right ... except for one thing ... searching the forum! This is part of the 3 week stall and is a good thing. Really. Pretty much everybody goes through it and it is a necessary part of the progression. You've just had major surgery, lost 13 pounds in less than a month, and your body is going WOA! It just needs a few days to get things in order as to how it is going to start feeding off of itself. Search the forum for stalls and you will see. There is lots of advice. I think you will find that cutting calories is one of the last things you want to do, BTW. Congrats! You're doing great.
  4. How about calling it "The Top 50 from Vets to you... with a bow on it" or "VAQs" Veterans Answer Questions My personal fav is "I am 2 1/2 weeks out and have stopped losing weight!".... followed by the 3 week stall talk. Prefaced by the admonishment of "Listen to your Doc and Nut" of course.

No wieght loss in 3 days

It's frustrating when you see such a dramatic drop right after surgery and then it stops. It's completely normal. I lost 15 lbs the first 2 weeks, then had a 3 week stall. I'm 7 weeks out now, and I lose about 2 1/2-3 1/2 lbs per week pretty consistently, but I don't see weight loss every day. Sometimes it's 4 or 5 days in between. Have patience, and if you can, only weigh in once a week (hard, I know). Slow and steady wins the race. Besides, when have we horizontally challenged ever been able to lose 27 lbs in 7 weeks? Be grateful for these small victories. :-)
  7. So after dropping 31 pounds rather quickly, I hit the dreaded 3 week stall. I was stuck for 13 days before the scale dipped again. I know that stalls are a normal part of the process, but they mess with your head, don't they? I found myself saying that perhaps I should not have my 160 calorie Protein shake, which I immediately knew was ridiculous thinking considering since my calorie intake is around 500 a day and of course I did NOT skip my shake but stuck with the program. My question is, I hear a lot of very smart people on this site say "Embrace the stall". If you are one of those people, would you kindly please explain to me what that means to you? I think I need a different prospective than the one that I have. All sage wisdom is welcome, including sarcasm.
  8. search for the 3 week stall. Nearly every sleever has a stall between 3 and 6 weeks post op. It's our bodies readjusting to our new diet and hydration. It will end soon, just keep following your plan. The good news is that most people's stall breaks dramatically, with a large amount of weight lost seemingly overnight. Mine was 5 or 6 pounds, IIRC. A good thing to keep track of is your measurements. Even when I stall, I see dramatic drops in inches lost. That's when I "shape shift".
  9. I was sleeved on 7/13 and also stalled, please know this is quite normal. If you do a search for 3-week stall you should find all kinds of results. My doc explained it this way, the first few weeks you will drop about 10% of your weight and then stall. This is due for two reasons, first your body is burning all simple carbs you have stored up in your body and allows your body to go into ketosis, which is where your body starts burning stored fat instead of calories, because we are hardly eating. Second, your organs need to shrink because they are enlarged. The single reason we are on a pre-op diet is to shrink our enlarged fat covered liver. When we lose weight quickly the organs need time to recover. That's at least what I was told. Just as a side not, After I broke through my 3-week stall I dropped another 10lbs in 5 days, stick to the plan and stay away from carbs, caffeine, soda etc and it will work. I am 6 weeks 1 day out today and have lost 51lbs since surgery with a stall of 2 weeks.

    Paranoid as hell!

I can attest to the stall. There is a thing called the 3 week stall. But it is different for everyone. I would not have believed this if it had not happened to me. I went 21/22 days eating about 600 - 800 calories a day and did not loose one single pound. Not one. So, don't worry too much about the speed that you loose. We are all different and as long as you are following the rules. It will happen.
  11. I'm a 12-12-16 myself day of surgery 207 after liquid diet 2-12-17 I was 177.2 I had the usual 3 week stall where I lost nothing but just kept plugging along.
  12. My surgery was 12/28 and I'm down a little over 19 lbs. I just got out of the 3 week stall that lasted about 9 days. It was torture!! I do have to make sure I keep up on my water. I'm still on purees until this Saturday then I move to "soft foods." I'm looking forward to that after a month of liquids and purees. But I'm mostly not all that hungry and I get full so fast. I can eat about 2 oz of refried beans or ricotta with marinara sauce and I'm done. I still do a lot of protein shakes to get my protein in. I use it in my coffee and always bring a shake with me in the car when I'm out and about.
  13. Are you drinking Protein shakes? Even at 10 months out, this is how I meet protein and Fluid goals. I make a smoothie every morning and drink it late morning/early afternoon. I've got at least 8 different Protein powder flavors to choose from and then add even more variety with fruit, PB2, Torani syrups and Mio Water drops. My smoothies are 24-32oz liquid, 25-40g protein (depending on what type of protein powder a I use and whether it's made with milk or water) and 5-10g Fiber. So I'm killing 3 birds with one stone (fluids, protein, fiber) and easily meeting the other 1/2 of my goals through high protein food, tea, coffee, water and juice. You need to Try and figure out how to drink and eat more. I had only lost 17 pounds at 6 weeks postop, then gained 3 pounds and sat there for a month. That was when In was sick from a medication I was taking. As soon as I stopped the medication, I ate and drank at least twice as much and dropped 8 pounds in 1 week! Slow but steady loss (with just a couple. 2-3 week stalls) ever since. Good luck. PS. go ahead and eat 5-6 tiny, healthy meals/day if you have to....I do. It's better than Peanut Butter and ice cream.

    Overwhelmed!

Hi Billie, My thoughts on your situation: You may well be starting the 3 week stall. Don't sweat it, just wait it out. Don't push yourself into the next food phase. Move on when it feels comfortable. Can you find any sort of puree that you like? As others suggested, only weigh weekly or even less. For sleeping, try sleeping on your back with a lot of pillow support. I use up to 6 pillows under my back and it's quite comfy now. Started this right after surgery. Also, try some Sleepy Time tea before bed. Hope you feel better.
  15. I went through the typical phase immediately after surgery where it was hard to want to eat or drink anything because it all tasted bad, and then it passed. Since then, I've felt pretty normal with food. However, in the last week, everything has started tasting strange to me again. Food tastes bland, or abhorrent. There's no in between. Even my beloved Crystal Light which has seriously helped me maintain my water intake suddenly just tastes bad. I don't recall ever reading any posts about food taste issues coming back. I'm still eating, and I'm trying mightily to choke the water down. Just wondering, has anyone else experienced this, and does it go away again? It's interesting, it seems to coincide with my weight finally beginning to drop again after a monstrous 3+ week stall. I've been back to dropping about a pound a day, after levitating between the same three pounds for those three weeks.
  16. I knew the stall would break, but seriously? 3+ weeks? I did lose inches. Pants that I couldn't begin to fit into now fit easily. How is that physically possible? Getting all my size 14s down from the rafters. I really like some of my size 16 pants, but if a wear a size too large it make my pooch look bigger - not flattering at all.
  17. Thank you everyone for the responses! It is definitely scary to here some who is supposed to be an expert on wls say that the 3 week stall isn't real, also concerning when you feel like your doing everything you can to succeed. I found that this situation played on fears I didn't even know I had making me think the surgery was a failure and that I'll be stuck like this forever. I cannot say how much I appreciate everyone's prompt responses and the encouragement, it has greatly helped to put me at ease!

    Not losing weight

Your calories are low and you're getting your protein and water. I'm going to agree with everyone else that you're just in your 3 week stall. It happened to me too. I was loosing weight like crazy, then nothing for a few days, then it started to come off again.

    3 weeks po stall

My surgeon warned me that there is usually a stall around 3 weeks, and that you may even a couple lbs, but its just your body getting used to everything. Itll pass, don't be discouraged! I hit a 3 week stall but i was so busy moving i barely noticed (thank goodness)

    3 week stall?

Is this the dreaded three week stall? I thought it was a joke! I weighed in at the doctors on Wednesday and haven't lost anything since! My scale said I even gain half a pound! I am not eating anything I'm not supposed to. I am transitioning to liquids to blended. However, I'm having a REALLY hard time getting my water in. I try to eat, I get so full I feel like I can't put anything in my body for like 2 hours, and it's not like the old days where you can just chug your water. I sip all day and I can barely finish 24 ounces. I'm 19 days post op today. I have been way more conscious of how fast I'm eating, I am chewing things to death, I use a baby spoon, I put my plate away, I wait between water and good but I'm a!ways so uncomfortable after eating almost any amount i am just afraid to drink! I feel like this is why I'm not losing. I also use the baritastic app AND write in a journal. I'm seriously thinking of having my friend that's a nurse come over with an IV!
  21. I had 3 week stall, like majority of people. Your body says " what the heck" and going on strike I am slow loser and I stall every other week for a week. Everybody is different, but remember that this too, shall pass. You'll start losing again!
  22. @mnmlst I was sleeved on October 28th, 2014 and I have lost a total of 17lbs since surgery. I have hit the dreaded 3 week stall. I have loast any weight since November 9th. I am trying to be happy but I keep feeling like I am going to fail. I wish I knew when this stupid stall was going to be over. Other than that, no complications. I am back at work and working out.
  23. Any other late October / early November sleevers out there who want to check in? How are you doing? When was your surgery date? What's going on in your sleeved life right now? My date was October 31. I am doing ok. Still really feeling the restriction and having a lot of pain when I eat to fast or don't chew my food well enough. My doctor fast tracks his healthy patients to real food, so I've been on soft/purees for a week and am moving to regular food. Most of the time it goes pretty well. I am learning what I can and can't tolerate. Weight loss is good -- down 15 lbs since surgery for a total of 35 lbs down since my first day of pre-op. I am fearfully awaiting the 3 week stall. I really want a loss of 20 lbs for my first month, but I think I won't get it. This Friday marks my 3rd week post-op. Any issues? Concerns? Cheers? I went below my pre-pregnancy weight this week! I am beyond thrilled. Still can't get into my pre-pregnancy jeans, tho. That's all for now! Hope to hear from everyone soon!

    Stalling

Yes the 3 week, 3 month stall curse lol. It’s totally normal. I am 1.5 months post op and I am down to 225 from 256lbs surgery and I had a 3 week stall that lasted about two weeks. Best thing to do is put a way the scale for one to two weeks. :) your body is just in panic mode but if you are doing what you are supposed to do you will lose the weight whether you look at your scale or not ❤️

Do i qualify for the surgery ?

The information seminar is normally a power point presentation to a group of people that are interested in WLS. One of the surgeons in the practice normally goes over obesity and the risks of obesity, the various surgeries that practice performs (sleeve, bypass, band, DS), the normal outcomes for each surgery, the risks of each surgery. They will normally discuss what else is available through their program such as Nutritionist (NUT), support groups. Frequently they will have a former patient come in to talk about their experience. Then a Q&A session. There is normally a coordinator there with handouts and they will take you name and number to follow-up to see if you want to schedule an evaluation appointment. The surgeon will likely have a few requirements prior to scheduling surgery. Most of them will be to make sure you are healthy enough for surgery: blood work, pulmonary clearance/sleep apnea test, Upper GI/endoscopy, EKG, PCP clearance, cardiologist clearance. Not all surgeons require all of those. It depends on the surgeon and your individual co-morbities. Many surgeons require a psych eval and may require you to attend pre-op support groups. Please do not rush from the first visit right to surgery. Take your time, do your research, make sure you really understand what changes you will need to make to your eating habits and your lifestyle. IMO the posters that come to this board shortly after surgery and are surprised about how hard it is, don't know about the 3 week stall, don't really know what they are supposed to be eating/not eating are normally the ones that saw the surgeon and a couple of weeks later are having surgery. As much as I was impatient with the 6 month supervised diet and the pre-op clearances it gave me the time to really start my new habits early. It gave me time to spend on Bariatric Pal reading about what worked and didn't work for people. It gave me time to really think about the whole process and how i was going to have to change my life to make this work. I don't have children so I don't have that complication. But having small children and needing to cook for them, shuttle them around, clean up after them while you are trying to heal and change your eating habits may make it harder. Your kids and husband are not going to want to drink that Protein shake with you. You may need to be cooking them food you shouldn't be eating. Having the time to really process that mentally before the surgery is a good thing. I don't want to seem like I am trying to dissuade you. I am not. This surgery was the best thing I have ever done for me. I am saying take your time to learn and to research. Go to a couple of different surgeons/practices. Find the one you are comfortable with. Don't pick the first one you go to because you are impatient to get on with your new life and your new you. I think insurance companies or surgeon's practices that have no pre-op requirements can be setting many patients up for failure. (Somehow Mexico is different since that is a different model altogether.)
