    Any sleevers March 25,2013

Is your wt loss since surgery? I had mine 23rd and lost 16 pounds prior to and 12 since the surgery. I have been stalled the last week and am really discuraged. I read about the 3 week stall but I also read about all these people down 30 pounds in a month. I do not wt myself everyday or even weekly. I just really want to be less than 300 and that is driving me crazy.

the week 3 stall is no myth. ~sigh~

Its crazy isn't it? I feel like I haven't lost in soo long so I looked back on Fit Day. It was TUESDAY, 3 days ago- I could swear it was at least a week or more. Time is standing still but I dont go back to work until Monday, which will hopefully help. No matter how much I read about the 3 week stall and your body adjusting and blah, blah, blah its still a killer!
  4. I got the 3 week stall and was fine with it knowing it would pass . I didn't freak out I just went with it. So why am I freaking out over this stall at 8 weeks. Did anyone else have a stall at this time? I know I am able to eat more but obviously I am still nut eating anywhere near what I used to and only drinking water so having no calories from liquids. I also went back to work 2 weeks ago when the stall started so I'm sure that has something to do with it.

    Scale and Motivation Stuck!

Completely normal, search 3 week stall, you may not technically be 3 weeks, maybe a little more, but still applies. Stick with it! Also, check your inches!
  6. Sounds like you're dead in the middle of the 3 week stall. Many people hit this inevitable stall. It's nothing to worry about and there is nothing you can do about it except don't panic or stress...just keep doing what you're supposed to do. In my sig there is a link explaining why it happens, but I'll just cut and paste it here for everyone to read....good luck and hang in there. It will end on it's own.... Weight Loss Stall or Plateau A weight loss stall or plateau is an extended period of time during reducing efforts where is there is no weight loss according to the scale and no loss of inches according to the tape measure. This is why it is so important to take your body measurements before surgery, so you'll have a reference as your weight loss progresses post-op. We suggest you take measurements of your chest, waist and hip, neck, upper arm, thigh and calf. Be aware it is very common for your weight loss to "stall" shortly after surgery. Diana explains the reason for this below. The Inevitable Stall By Diana C. A "stall" a few weeks out is inevitable, and here's why. Our bodies use glycogen for short term energy storage. Glycogen is not very soluble, but it is stored in our muscles for quick energy -- one pound of glycogen requires 4 lbs of Water to keep it soluble, and the average glycogen storage capacity is about 2 lbs. So, when you are not getting in enough food, your body turns first to stored glycogen, which is easy to break down for energy. And when you use up 2 lbs of glycogen, you also lose 8 lbs of water that was used to store it -- voila -- the "easy" 10 lbs that most people lose in the first week of a diet. As you stay in caloric deficit, however, your body starts to realize that this is not a short term problem. You start mobilizing fat from your adipose tissue and burning fat for energy. But your body also realizes that fat can't be used for short bursts of energy -- like, to outrun a saber tooth tiger. So, it starts converting some of the fat into glycogen, and rebuilding the glycogen stores. And as it puts back the 2 lbs of glycogen into the muscle, 8 lbs of water has to be stored with it to keep it soluble. So, even though you might still be LOSING energy content to your body, your weight will not go down or you might even GAIN for a while as you retain water to dissolve the glycogen that is being reformed and stored. Breathe, and fuggedaboudit for a few days. What You Can Do About a Stall or Plateau If you are experiencing a post-op weight loss stall or plateau further out there are a few possible causes. First, check that are you really in a stall. If the scale has stopped moving you may be losing inches, so check your measurements. Too Many Carbs? Carbohydrates can start sneaking into your foods without you being aware of how quickly they are adding up. For more information on carbs, see our section on Carbohydrates. If you are struggling with your weight loss you may want to examine your daily carb count. You can try to keep your carbs under 50g a day and see if that makes a difference in your weight loss. Do not eat carbs before bedtime as it triggers insulin and initiates fat storage. There are some great web site resources you can use to keep track of what you are eating. Fit Day Spark People - If you join Spark People also join the DS group. The Daily Plate Calorie King For more tips on keeping a food journal see the Personal Nutrition Guide. Eating Enough? If you are under-eating or go more than 4-5 hours without eating, your body will shift into fasting mode, slow your metabolism and conserve your stored energy (fat). This can contribute to a weight loss stall or plateau. Make sure you are eating small meals or small Snacks throughout the day and also ensure you meet your daily Protein requirements. Try eating some protein with every meal or snack. For more information on protein requirements see our section on Protein. Drinking Enough? An adequate level of water in your body aids in the effective breakdown of fat. The daily minimum recommendation is 64 Fluid oz of water a day. If you are in ketosis you will need to drink even more water to ensure the ketones are flushed out of your system. You may also need more than the minimum amount of water if you are exercising or live in a warmer or dry environment. Exercising? Exercise can increase your metabolism and burn fat. Strength training will build muscles and will boost fat burning. In a stall you can try increasing your volume of exercise or changing up your routine to overcome a weight loss stall or plateau. If you have been doing mainly aerobic activity, try doing a bit of strength training, and if you have been doing mainly strength training, try an aerobic work-out. The High Fat - High Calorie Stall Buster Many DSers swear by the fat/calorie shock as an effective weight loss stall or plateau buster. Having a day of higher fat and calorie eating followed by a returning to consistent low carb eating can sometimes "shock" your body back into weight loss mode.

    no weight loss!

Yup, I gained 10 pounds from the fluids also. I didnt start seeing the numbers go down till around the 2 week mark which made me happy but then I hit the 3 week stall which made me homicidal But then after the stall, I saw the numbers go down continuously except for the repeated stalls. Just keep being good to your sleeve.
  8. It's the dreaded 3 week stall. I had a stall at 10 days out that lasted for 2 1/2 weeks and I had another stall a few weeks after that. Since then some weeks I lose faster than others. It will come off, you just have to get adjusted. Stalls happen, it sucks, but they do. It seems like when the scale stalls for me, my clothes start getting looser and people start noticing my drop in weight. I dropped a pant size in my first stall, and have dropped two more since but both when the scale really had slowed down moving. Measure yourself and see your body changing in inches not just in the numbers on the scale.
  9. Sleeved one is the most important May 7 and down 23 lbs. Finally getting past a 3 week stall. May 7...here I come!!

actingnurse i see with your 76 lbs gone, you look wonderful!!!! you went through major surgery 5 1/2 months ago you've been so successful, you should be proud I get it/understand being upset/angry/discouraged I'm 99.9999% positive that you are NOT done losing weight!!!! you know the bit here about stalls, i know that doesn't help you any though 3 weeks stall + counting - the stall will break eventually your body might tell you enough is enough and won't let you lose more weight but for now you have more to lose - with lots to "GAIN" if i knew the answer to when your stall will break - i would run for GOD!!!! congrats on 76 lbs gone, gone, and gone forever good luck stay strong "God Grant Me Patience Just Hurry Up About It"

March 2013 Sleevers... What are you eating?

I was sleeved 3/29. Down 34 lbs. went through a 3 week stall which was TOUGH! Just came out of the stall with 4 pounds lost. Oatmeal, Greek yogurt or egg for breakfast, string cheese snack, small piece of baked fish or protein shake for lunch, fruit or a little hummus for afternoon snack, and a bite of whatever protein the family has for dinner. Walking helps a lot!

    Scared

Actually I think I had more pain after my band surgery them my sleeve ( my husband agrees). I was weaker longer, with this surgery but that had to do with band complications, not sleeve complications. ( My stomach had prolapsed and was adhered to my liver). 5 weeks out I am feeling good, just having problems with the dreaded 3 week stall!!!!! Good luck with your decision.
  15. It's your body reacting to the shock from surgery. I think most of went through the dreaded 3 week stall. Just keep doing what you are doing and it will break. I too was discouraged with a 20lb loss at 3 weeks, but it broke and at 14 weeks I am 70 lbs down. Hang in there it only gets better. Congrats on your weight loss and journey. discouraged and depressed

It's the 3 week stall....do a search for it on the forum, and you'll find it's quite common.

    Stall...boo!

Sleeved 5/10. Down 25 since pre-op. Definitely at the dreaded 3 week stall! Taking in about 400-600 calories, getting about 60 grams of protein, walking 30 minutes almost every day. Just disappointed I guess. You want to see that scale go DOWN not stay the same day after day

    Ugh! Weight gain!

Ive heard people talking about the 3 week stall...is this it? I lost a lot my first week (well at least I think its a lot, 20lbs) but I know I'm not gonna lose 20lbs every week and I might gain some back...who knows...I'm 8 days out.
  20. I know people talk about stalls, and that they're a normal part of the process and I've heard about the dreaded '3 week stall' but I'm only 2 weeks post op (yesterday) and although I have lost weight since pre-op and surgey, the scale hasn't budged in 5 days. In fact, I gained a pound. I've just been on clear liquids... so what gives??!!? feeling pretty bummed.

May sleevers! How much have you lost so far?

Sleeved May 8...surgery weight 310...down 25 pounds...18 pounds the first week and then 7 over last 2 weeks...will see if I have the dreaded 3-week stall :-)
  22. jensjoy28

    Help...very confused

I haven't looked at your ticker, so I'm not sure where you started at...but 29 pounds doesn't seem slow for most starting weights...I take it you were so surprised at his response that you didn't ask him a follow-up question like, "really, how much would you have expected me to lose?!" I started at 310 and am down 25 pounds in 3 weeks...if I am like many others and have the 3 week stall, then I will be down 25 pounds in the first month.
  23. 3 weeks out and 25 pounds down...feeling great! Have been very fortunate so far on my recovery...haven't had trouble getting liquids or protein in, and have been virtually pain-free since about 4 days post-op. I would love to be down 30 pounds by week 4 because it would be 20% of my overall goal....but I think today starts the 'dreaded 3-week stall' that I have heard so much about...will see.

    14 days post surgery

Everyone is different. 22lbs in 14 days is awesome! Thats more than a pound a day. Don't be upset with that. You have to realize you body just went through alot 2 weeks ago and has a ways to go before its fully healed. Once it heals and you can eat more Protein and be able to work out you will noticed more changes. Just because you are not losing weight on the scale doesn't mean you're not doing good. I was one a 3 week stall in that time I didn't lose any weight but dropped a pants size. Hang in there your journey just started you have a bright road a head if you wish to stay on it and do what your doctor tells you to do.
  25. No game

    No loss

Yes let's stop talking about the "3 week stall" Around here and start talking about the more serious 6th month stall! I have been at the same weight for about a month....
