Maybe ask if you can use something like this. I knew I had seen ace bandages made out of different materials than cotton that looked less slippery. I’ve never tried these but it does say “non slip”?? I've found keeping on top of the pain the best way to go. I skipped a dose thinking I'd be fine but really regretted it. The worst pain is in the incision they pulled my stomach out of. The surgeon said they have to cut through muscle and that's why it hurts so bad. I can't wait to be able to sleep on my side. I made a mistake yesterday thinking I could drink one of my Ghost Protein Fruity Cereal Milks and gosh it was disgusting. Tasted like drinking pure chemicals. My tastes really have changed a lot since surgery. I only lost 3 pounds this week. I know my body has a lot going on but I can't help but be a little disappointed. I keep reminding myself I lost 19 on the pre op diet. But ugh. I'm consuming less than 500 calories a day! I think I need to stop obsessing over the scale. I've been weighing every day. It's not good for my psyche. 🥺 Good luck to all the 10/31-ers tomorrow!

Ask 10 nutritionist if popcorn is "good for you" and you'll get 11 different opinions. Here's some of the reasons I've heard bariatric patients should avoid it: I honestly think this one is more urban myth, but some people claim popcorn kernels or pieces can get stuck in the staple line and cause issues. If true, this is obviously a bigger concern the closer you are to surgery. Even if the popcorn itself can be an okay choice, we tend to add toppings that aren't so good for us. It's easy to overeat since it feels like there's not much there. This can catch up to you though. Also, because it has very little protein, eating too much popcorn may prevent you from meeting your protein goals for the day. Popcorn is high in insoluble fiber, meaning it will draw water into it and swell in the gut. Now normally fiber is a good thing for a healthy gut, but especially for bariatric surgery patients that are not used to it, you run the risk of the popcorn swelling while it's still in your stomach and causing significant discomfort. This risk is probably reduced if you eat it slowly. Eat it too fast and you may regret it. Anything you eat in a mindless way (as we all tend to do at the movies), could lead to you eating too fast or too much. See #3 and 4 above. No question that alternatives such as those suggested above may be better for some people. The concern for me is that especially while at the movies, I have to make sure I don't fall into that "mindless eating" trap. That's so dangerous for me. I'm trying to learn to stop associating "movies" with "snacking". (I even do this at home, so Netflix is no relief.) I think at least for me, that may be the better option long term? -
My surgery on 10/25 went pretty well. I'm hitting my liquid and protein goals easily every day. Before surgery I was all about the milky vanilla/chocolate protein flavors but now after I can't stand them. They just taste off. I'm enjoying the fruity syntrax nectar flavors a lot though! The incision where they pulled my stomach out has been the worst part of it. Pain meds help a little, but it's bad when trying to bend over/stand up. Manageable though. I try to get up and do a lap around the house every 2 hours. I need to start putting more effort into walking more. Not gonna lie though this has all been a lot easier than I expected. I had almost no gas pain at all. My brain had no problem switching from gulping down water to sipping it (I was worried about that). Food cravings don't control me anymore. My hunger is non existent. Before surgery I read so many horror stories and negative things that mine seems like a cake walk in comparison. I'm not complaining, just pleasantly surprised!! 4 more days until I can advance to puree! Already got my fridge stocked. I think I'll try refried beans first. 😄

plans are all different. I'd check with your clinic. 1100 is a lot more than I was eating at two weeks out (I was probably about 10 months out when I was eating that much), but some surgeons like to start their patients out at higher calorie levels - so I'd check with him/her. and honestly, very few programs have you track calories the first few months - they're more concerned about meeting protein and water requirements.

I find that I feel full after 4-5 bites. I push it away, and find I want to come back to it in 5 to 10 minutes, eat another bite or two, then push it back. There is a ?feeling..? when your tummy has had enough, and it's like a dog with its hackles up..back off or you will be sorry..... -
5 wisdom teeth!! you are super rare! I had 4 removed in my 20's (under general as well). now that i think of it, recovery from that was pretty rough too. (i must have blocked that memory!! lol) my jaw was HUGE with swelling. i had trouble swallowing (so my throat was sooooo painfully dry) and of course i couldn't eat. if i remember correctly i didn't eat for over a week and lost 10+ lbs...and i was like 115-120 lbs to begin with so i looked pretty wrecked.

To follow up, I did start HRT this summer and instead of gaining, I actually lost 7 lbs and my worse symptoms of menopause subsided but I quickly realized that any further weight loss was going to be really hard. My doctor prescribed Moujaro and is a big fan of it (who knew?). I started it right after I posted this thread and I'm already down 20 lbs. Holy smokes! The appetite suppression and restriction (yes, I do feel it much more now) is crazy. I relate it to the feeling I had about 90 days out from surgery. I can eat what I want but just not very much of it and I'm rarely hungry. I didn't expect to lose so much weight so fast and I really only want to lose another 10 lbs so I doubt I will hit the max Mounjaro dose. I'm currently on 5 mg with no side effects beyond nausea the day after my shot. If this medication had been around when I had surgery, I don't know if I would have needed to have WLS but I am thankful it's here for me now. My doctor loves it to prevent recision surgery and regain in patients who are 36 months or longer out from their past surgery.

I have had 2 C-sections and they are much worse. The small holes in you abdomen are nothing compared to a 10 inch cut at the base. The only part that was worse was the air trapped in my chest cavity that day, but that only lasted a couple hours.

Low BMI obesity gastric sleeve option

Unfortunately, you still need the change in lifestyle/diet habits to make this work long term. I like to think of the sleeve/RNY as being a "do over" rather than a total fix, because it will indeed help get the weight off, and usually faster, than going alone, but there is still the tendency to gain again over time, as one can still "eat around" the surgery. The DS (duodenal switch) is better in the regain resistance area, but that is even greater overkill for a low BMI patient. I decided on the sleeve after my wife had here (much needed) DS and I had lost 50 or so lb of my excess weight, and kept it off for 5-6 years, but couldn't sustainably lose the next 100 that I needed to lose. So I had much of the habit part taken care of ahead of time, and it worked well, though it still takes work to keep it off - most of us long timers have been through periods of gain that we have had to lose again. Regain tends to be slower than without the WLS, but the bias is still there. So, you may well be in this same boat again in 5-10 years. In short, the sleeve will help you with the part that you already can do fairly well - lose when needed - but is only soso on helping you with the part that you struggle with - keeping it off. That's a consideration when trying to match the "personality" of the surgery with your own personality. -
any ladies have a c-section and the VSG surgery? (obviously not at the same time lol lol) My surgical experience is 2 c-sections in a year 18/19 years ago. (I currently have 2 18 year olds until Nov 10th) Does the physical recovery from VSG compare with c-section at all or too different to compare ? I was asking about recovery i pre op and they said what many on the forum have said; it’s not a very painful recovery for most. I said that I had two c-sections and they said it’s nothing compared to a c-section. As always, tho, I want to hear first hand experiences !!

Laparoscopic Bariatric Surgery After Abdominoplasty

Hi Friends, New here…I am wondering if anyone has had experience with having any laparoscopic surgeries after getting a tummy tuck. I had an abdominoplasty in 2013 after having a child and losing weight and having a lot of extra skin. Now almost 10 years later I am looking into having a gastric sleeve done. Looking for anyone with experience. Was it harder for the surgeon due to scar tissue or things moved around? Thanks in advance. -
hematologist was 6-7 years ago but my main dr knows all about it… normal wbc is 7-10… i usually run 13-17… yesterday was 20, so double normal limit… so-far i haven’t gotten a call about it, so maybe not a problem (wishful thinking)… just don’t want anything to derail things at this point !! (side note: my a1c dropped from 6.2 to 6.1! was hoping for more but i will take any reduction)

I have leukocytosis, so I know what elevated wbc count is like. Luckily I was diagnosed with it 10 years ago so it's noted and highlighted in my chart. If you were sick this month, they might still be up from it. Since you normally have elevated wbc, maybe see if you have leukocytosis, too, and have them highlight it in your chart, as well. -

I’m having band to bypass revision in January. My band is 10 years old and has never been filled. If it was in good shape and in place/no erosion they can do it in one. If not, it’s a two step procedure. My fluoroscopy and endoscopy showed it’s in great shape and in place so it will be removed and bypass in one. I’m almost through my preop stuff, and hoping for a date in January after approval.

You know what’s happening. You said it yourself - eating more junk food & old habits sneaking back. It’s the battle we all face & always will to some extent. The surgery only changes our body not our brain sadly. All because you can tolerate those foods doesn’t mean you should eat them. But you have to make the decision as to whether you’ll eat them, how often you’ll eat them & how much of them you’ll eat. Finding a balance of our eating & weight & being able to live the life we want is something we have to discover for ourselves. It’s why many accept being a little heavier than they originally wanted as it’s less restrictive, more sustainable & allows them more flexibility to enjoy their life with family & friends. And that’s okay. Unfortunately, yes, exercising will increase your appetite as your body seeks to replace the calories you’ve burnt being active. If you’re more active you can eat more calories but less than you burn if you want to keep losing. Also exercising only contributes to around 10% of the weight you want to lose. So if you want to lose 20lbs, exercise will contribute to the loss of about 2 of those pounds. Of course, lots of other benefits to being active. I think you know what you need to do if you want to lose more weight. Start by making one change today. Then in a week or so make another. It’s easier to manage & accept going one step at a time. I'm completely fine now, like it never happened! Totally my own fault. It came on fast- like 10 minutes after I finished drinking. I've been handling liquids really well and wasn't even thinking this morning when I drank the shake SO fast 🙊 It was a lesson for me to slow down and be more mindful of my new stomach.

Hello, I had gastric sleeve 10/17/22 and I’m feeling defeated. Let me start off by saying I have been preparing myself for this surgery for almost a year. I started my pre op diet 4 weeks before my surgery and lost 20lbs, then had a 2 day liquid diet. My sw was 286.8 and day of surgery it was 268.8. my surgery went great and when I got home I weighed 269.0 but I figured that I was swollen and still really gassy from surgery. that’s not my problem though. I’m SO hungry. My post op diet consists of 1 week clear liquid, 1 week of thicker liquids, then onto purée. Well pretty much since I got home I’ve been eating creamy soups as I just couldn’t tolerate the broth any longer. I am so sick of broth I can’t stand it. And even worse tonight I snuck a couple pieces of elbow macaroni. I tolerated it just fine but I’m scared I’m just going to eat like I did before. I even ate a couple spoons of mashed potatoes last night. I know I’m not supposed to but my mind is lying to me telling me I’m starving. I’m not looking to get lectured…maybe just some advice.

Because intonation is hard to tell, I'm going to say what I'm going to say and it's out of concern for your wellbeing. If you suspect at all that you are dealing with potential cardiac issues, you need to seek emergency help right away. I don't know if you're asking on a reversal of a gastric bypass thread, if a reversal could help you with that, if it is unfortunately no one except a bariatric surgeon could help with that. And that should be one you see in person. I didn't give you the exact answers you wanted because unfortunately in the questions you brought up brought up different kind of questions that I think might take precedence. If you feel secure in your health status and just want vitamin input from a 10 year plus grad, you might be better served starting a new thread on this forum site to best suit your needs.
