    March 2022 Surgery Buddies

I had my revision surgery March 1st, went home on the 3rd and went back on the 5th thanks to a bowel obstruction. I'm one of the rare people who experience a bad reaction. We're hoping steroids and time will take away the swelling that's causing the obstruction. Pay attention to the warning signs they tell you. My surgeon gave me a big magnet with instructions of what to do. I did just that and called the on call surgeon, who sent me to the ER and ordered a CT scan. On the plus side, no more GERD! I’m thinking about getting the sleeve as it’s more conducive in case I need a revision in the future. Hope your doing well!
  3. Welcome to the club! I had my sleeve in Dec 2016, lost a LOT (about 120 lbs in 6 months), slowly put it back on over then next few years, until I was almost back to my starting point. I got revised to a bypass in Nov 2021 and it's going great so far! As of this morning I'm down 65 lbs and feel great. Both of us now know how to do things right and how to do things wrong, so keep that in mind when tempted, that's what I plan on doing. Good luck!
  4. I’m an April 6th surgery. This is revision surgery for me. Good luck to everyone! Looking forward to hearing all the awesome progress.
  5. Hi all. So I had my revision 4 days ago. A 45 -50 pound weight loss would be perfect but I am terrified of regain. I am so afraid I'll gain again. Is anyone out years from surgery and maintaining??

    What Led To Revision

I had a lap band for 7 years and I had it removed almost a year ago due to GERD. I'm revising to RNY in the near future.
  7. Agree. It's truly ridiculous that the MGB/OAGB isn't considered a standard procedure in America. It's simpler, more effective, and has fewer side effects than most alternatives. It can be easily revised or reversed. People have a chance of keeping the weight off (no guarantees, of course).

Anyone have LapBand to DS revision?

I had a lapband placed in 2013 and it was removed April 2021 due to GERD. I'm in the process of revising to RNY. My surgeon won't perform DS on anyone unless they have really bad diabetes. So it was never an option for me. I never made it to goal weight with the lap band. From what I've read, most don't. So I'm hoping to cure the GERD and lose a little more weight after RNY. Best wishes on your Lap band removal and DS surgeries!
  9. I think it's root is 'Distal' so making the existing bypass more distal, more intestines bypassed. Good luck, Tek ETA: Revision of Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass with Limb Distalization ...
  10. I'm just curious - can I ask what: Revision... distillization of rny is?
  11. I didn't have a revision, but when I was doing the research on my surgery I ran across a few peoples posts about how they revised to the DS and their weight loss. I remember one lady was in the 350's prior to her original surgery (gastric bypass) and got down to the 190's but then gained all her weight back and so had a revision to the DS and went from the 350's down to the 180's (she got to 170's after skin removal). I was actually considering the gastric bypass surgery at the time and I just kept thinking 'what if it fails' I didn't want to go through another surgery so I chose the Loop DS as my main surgery and it's worked great for me so far. I figure by the revision comments that I had stumbled on in my research before my surgery choice that your weight loss will probably be about the same, maybe slightly less than it would be with a fresh surgery but you'll probably still likely lose 70+% of excess weight. Just might be a tiny bit slower than a first time surgery.
  12. This past Tuesday I had my revision, sleeve to bypass. During the leak test we discovered I have very slow motility of my esophagus. My surgeon thinks this will correct itself as things from my revision heals.
  13. So, I am scheduled for my rny revision on March 21st. Had my pre-op today. It's going to be out patient, a simpler procedure than my original bypass. Still have to do the modified liquid diet pre-op for 14 days: 2 meals protein drinks, 1 light meal (3 oz lean meat, 1 cup veggies) or another protein drink. Have to get pre-op testing... bloodwork and an ekg. I'm excited and ready for the 21st to be here! I quit smoking two weeks ago as part of my surgeons requirements. I am making the changes needed to make the most of this. I know weight loss will be slower, but I'm also in a better place to stick to the plan. My revision is not due to regain, just a boost to get to goal and to help with digestive and slow motility issues. Original surgery was over 21 years ago,I starting weight was 475. I lost 100lbs down to 275 gained some weight when I got pregnant but then lost that regain, and kept it off. Last 17 years I've bounced between 245 and 275. Due to medical/digestive issues, I go through periods where I can barely eat and then go back to maintenance diet. This surgery is not only to help me get to a goal of 175ish but also to help settle the digestive issues. Any other revisions going on this month?

    March 2022 Surgery Buddies

Pre-op appointment today. 2 week pre-op diet starts Monday. I've got to get some blood work and an ekg. My surgery is a revision. Distillation of my gastric bypass. It is out patient, I'll be home same day. They aren't doing anything with my pouch which is why it's out patient. I'm excited for the 21st to get here.
  15. Just looking for anyone with experience going through this. Did it work? I'm 5'6 350lbs. LapBand 2009. Started at 300, lowest weight was 230 after LB. Need to lose the weight ASAP to get double knee replacement. I was looking to have LapBand revision to bypass, but surgeon said metabolism slows down after first surgery. And I need all the help I can get to lose some major weight. So he suggested and I agreed to the DS. Starting pre-op diet in 2 days for LapBand removal in a month. My liver is huge. DS should be 3 months later, if all goes well. Any journeys would be great to hear about 🙂
  16. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, it's your local Mini Gastric Bypass fan again! Yay! Someone asked the other day about MGB (also known as OAGB, Omega Loop, Single-Anastomosis Bypass) and I stumbled across this meta study. 26 studies were included (aka huge sample) Primary surgery was either version of the band or a sleeve gastrectomy (restrictive procedures) Mean BMI at time of revision to Mini Gastric Bypass was 45.7 Mean BMI at Year 1 was 31.5 Mean BMI at Year 3 was 31.4 Mean BMI at Year 5 was 30.5 That's right - they lost on average 14.2 BMI points in the first 12 months and kept losing weight up to the 5 year mark. So if you're considering revision, maybe give MGB a look? I love mine.

Good luck to everyone having surgery tomorrow! I've got my final pre-op with the surgeon tomorrow. I'm expecting to get my pre-surgery diet instructions. I'm not nervous... I'm anxious to get to surgery day. It's been a long 9 month process of jumping through hoops with very low expectations of insurance approving my revision. Now that they have, I just want to get on to the next stage. I am ready for this stage. I'm all in. It's hard because my partner is having a sleeve bypass 1 month after I have my revision and she's in a much different mindset than I am. She's like "after the liquid phase, well be able to have whatever we want, just a bite or two" and I'm like "nope, I'm making healthy choices, I've been through this before, it truly is just a tool that will help you start those healthy habits so they stick long term" My 50th birthday is two weeks after my surgery and she thinks I can have a bite of ice cream cake. I'm like, no. So we are having some of my favorite foods that she makes and my birthday cake Friday night. Still gonna have a bigger party actually on my birthday with family and friends but that's just to celebrate and the food won't be an issue for me. Wow lol that was a lot! I'm overdue for a session with my therapist. Lol

    Two weeks out

I'm glad you're recovering well. Keep us posted on your progress with the revision.

    Two weeks out

Today is two weeks past surgery. Recovery has gone well with no complications. My surgery was a revision from sleeve to bypass for hernia and GERD issues. I've dropped 10+ lbs in the two weeks which seems right in line (I was only at 227 on date of surgery). Per my surgeon's plan today we could progress to soft solid proteins, so it was great to have an ounce or two of sliced deli meat for lunch. Only downside is that they do an internal stitch to hold things together and that pain is real. I'm told it'll go away 4-6 weeks following surgery but until then it's the only downside to an otherwise good recovery so far.
  20. I had stage 2 (lipo) done today. I'm feeling good. The leftover Percocet from stage 1 is a blessing. Dr. gave ok to use it instead of the typical prescribed Vicodin. I will probably have a small amount of loose skin on the thigh gap and love handle areas but nothing that a tiny nip/tuck won't take care of. I'll post pictures in a couple of months when most of the swelling is gone. As far as the TT recovery (7 wpo), I can now ride my bike; cough/sneeze/laugh without tearing up; but still no heavy lifting. I consider house cleaning heavy lifting (wink, wink) so I guess hubby will have several more weeks of maid duty. I was still wearing a compress garment 23 hours a day even though I don't have to wear it more than 12 hours. Dr. said the longer the better and I don't mind it since it's not summer yet. Now I'm back to wearing it 24/7. Dr. said plan on the scar revision this fall and my scar is healing nicely.
  21. Really, really look into the weight loss with mini gastric bypass, also as revision. There's studies out there and they're all in favor of the mini. Weight loss is greater in every. single. study. Also, I know it really isn't meant as such, but it's kinda condescending to call RNY a 'full' bypass (not that you did that). It's just as much of a bypass as RNY
  22. Thanks so much for posting, I've been hearing people say that they didn't feel much restriction after having bypass and that weight loss was much slower than their original vsg surgery. Appreciate your feedback, Im very keen to revise from vsg to bypass due to weight gain after 8 years.
  23. I had a revision to full RNY (not the mini bypass since it wasn't covered by my insurance), and it feels the same but no Gerd. Main difference for me is a continuing low appetite even in the 7th month, double the rate of weight loss due to easy satiety off a couple ounces of food.

    First time

I had the sleeve many years ago and it took awhile, but I developed severe Gerd and esophagitis. In August of last year, I had to get a revision to bypass, and I haven't had any Gerd symptoms so far. So at this point (entering my 8 month post-op), it has really, really helped me sleep better, feel better.

    First time

I had the sleeve done 7 years ago and developed horrible GERD with extensive esophageal damage. Tomorrow morning my surgeon is revising me to bypass as it offers the best chance to get rid of the GERD. Sent from my Z6201V using BariatricPal mobile app
