    Eating & pain

I am almost 8 weeks post OP and everything you're dealing with, I am as well... it's been tough. I found that I like the premier caramel flavor the most and what I do is I get some decaf hazelnut coffee (I have a keurig) and I make 6 ounces of it, put a chocolate premier shake in a blender with the coffee and some ice and it's like a light milkshake...a lot lighter on the stomach for me. I personally am still having a hard time getting my water and protein but am trying my best like you. One other option someone recommended to me is the GENEPRO Protein Powder. It literally has NO taste at all which I love because literally anything can make me nauseous at this point....and that protein powder packs 30 grams of protein in one tablespoon scoop...which is so helpful. Sent from my SM-G965U using BariatricPal mobile app
  2. I can't drink any Protein drink, pre-made or otherwise. I'm a big fan of unflavored protein if I find myself running low on protein. Maybe get some unflavored protein and add it to your purees/drinks. I use GENEPRO but others here like Isopure and many others.

Can I see a menu please?

There are several other brands of "clear" Protein Drinks as well... One called Protein2O and Atkins Lift. I didn't care for them, but it's an individual taste thing. I liked the Syntrax Nectars especially roadside lemonade, but found I needed to blend them in a blender and then let them sit until the foam settled, then they were OK. Also, you might try freezing some of these clear protein drinks. I got ice pop style ziploc bags from Amazon and did that with the lemonade syntrax to help get both fluids and protein down early on. You've probably already tried it, but you might have better luck with the GENEPRO if you mix it with savory stuff like bouillon or stock - I liked the chicken bouillon best. I found it didn't clump if I mixed the powder with lukewarm Water in my blender and then mixed it into the hot liquid. unjury has a protein chicken Soup that's pretty decent, but I liked my own powder mixed in bouillon better.
  4. If I had a sore throat I'd would stick to Soups and add GENEPRO powder to them. Tylenol cold or Tylenol flu may help. Sent from my SM-N910T using the BariatricPal App

    LONGEST. STALL. EVERRRR.

I mix GENEPRO (unflavored Protein 30 grams) with crystal light. I stop at the Sonic in the morning and get a big cup of ice. I keep it at my desk and sip on it all morning. I mix another one in the afternoon and sip it all afternoon. Great way to get your proteinand Water in.
  6. I'm feeling you...my surgery was June 21st as well, and I'm only using RTD Protein as creamer in my decaf coffee. I'm adding a scoop of GENEPRO to my coffee, so that gives me 30g plus maybe 5g from the RTD at Breakfast. I either drink a Syntrax nectar (23g) or add another scoop of Genepro (30g) to a glass of Water with some flavored stevia later in the day, and another to my refried Beans or Soup at lunch or dinner. That gets me to 90 or nearly there, so the third meal is just bonus protein for my day. I'm really impressed with the Genepro product, and I can't tolerate any of the Isopure powders right now :-P

    One month post op problems

I use GENEPRO as well, it's the only Protein powder I can't smell or taste in food or drinks. I tried about 8 others and ended up staying with Genepro. If you're not on a PPI or an acid reducer, that could be the cause of your nausea. Bottom line for all of you who are having nausea is that you HAVE to get in some protein and fluids, some way. Unless you're actively vomiting up everything, you have to suck it up and drink a shake/eat a yogurt/whatever. Nausea, weakness and a sensitive stomach are an awful, downward spiral...you can't stop feeling weak and nauseated unless you get something into your sensitive, nauseated stomach. Don't slam 8 oz at once, but get a covered cup, stick a straw in it and sip that nasty shake or thinned out yogurt or warm broth or whatever you choose, but put something into your body. I'm in my 6th post-op month and I still have bouts of nausea and am having issues with meat, but I'm putting food/drink into my stomach and keeping my energy up so that I can get past this phase. You can do it, too, I promise!

    One month post op problems

My dr does have me on Nexium. That GENEPRO seems to be working for me although I still feel nauseaous. But like I said, if I sit still, I don't feel like that. Only when mobile. You sound like my dr saying I need to suck it up. It's very easy to say that!!! Trust me, I'm trying my very best to do what I'm supposed to. One thing I haven't been doing is eating because I hate the feeling I get. Like it's just sitting there. I did pick up some yogurt and apple sauce yesterday so I'll be trying to get down what I can.

    Help! Can't stand Protein Drinks

GENEPRO unflavored Protein powder will save you! You can add it to anything! I mean that! I add to crystal light, pudding, shakes, Soups, cream of wheat, anything puréed. You have to order it but it's gonna save my life! I'm getting some decaf sugar free coffee mix and I'll have one each morning with my genepro and almond coconut milk. Awesome!

    Choosing a Protein

Jesus, the "discussion" about Genepro just won't go away. Sherrie in particular appears to love bringing this topic up for discussion. Here is a recent thread of hers about it: If you were do do a search of this forum for Genepro, you would find 1,583 results.(Genpro returns 112). There is nothing new that can be said of this. In the company's own words: They are saying their 10g of special protein is equivalent to 30g whey. Genepro is not backed by science but marketing.

You know I have went to your suggested site about GENEPRO being sued and if you don't join the site you can't even read about it.

    RNY SURGERY

I'm 2 weeks out from Lapband revision with Gastric bypass surgery and I also do well with the GenePro. Because it's 30gm protein per serving, I take it with a cup of crystal light in the morning & early evening. With approved low fat Greek yogurt, it meets my protein goal. Can't stand the taste of a few others that seemed tolerable prior to surgery. I found the GenePro at GNC. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G870A using BariatricPal mobile app
  13. I had my 6 month follow-up (I'm at 5.5 mos) visit yesterday with my surgical team. I've lost 76 lbs, and all my labs came back PERFECT I've been using GENEPRO for supplementing and PatchMD Vitamin Patches and clearly both are doing a great job for me. When I had surgery, I was still mildly anemic from a long 5 years of severe iron-deficiency anemia and I was taking vit D supplements for a vit D deficiency. The patches have corrected the anemia and my vit D levels have stayed where they were with oral supplementation. All in all, it was great...blood Protein levels are right where they should be, Calcium and Iron were perfect and I continue to have good energy and am steadily losing still. Just wanted to share my good news

    Protein making me sick

GENEPRO unflavored mixes very well in beverages. I use it in hot tea. Just make sure the temperature is under 140 or it gets nasty clumpy Sent from my SM-G935V using the BariatricPal App
  15. I like the unflavored from Unjury. Good texture. Actually, the unjury protein powders are my favorite. Love the chocolate and the chicken soup flavors. I have used genepro from gnc. I was very happy w it also

    Breakfast/egg alternatives

I was going to recommend some unflavored GENEPRO, it has 30grams of protein in 1 Tablespoon. I add it to my ESPRESSO everyday. For myself I have never enjoyed breakfast (well maybe fried potatoes and eggs in my past life LOL) and I drink coffee all the time so for me it is a WIN WIN!! I noticed that you do supplement protein bars and drink thru out your day. This protein does keep me full. Just a thought. I sip on it all morning.
  17. It's not possible to get 30 g of protein for 60 calories. There are 4 calories in every gram of protein. So the minimum would be 120 calories for 30 g, or it couldn't have that much protein, one or the other. Considering Genepro was sued and lost for making false claims on several points, including inflating their protein content, I would not trust this company or any claims they make. https://casetext.com/case/si03-inc-v-musclegen-research-inc
  18. I have the Genepro unflavored powder, that I mix with V-8 juice. Well it doesn't mix that well, I think it is truly unflavored. I just keep stirring and stirring and finally it dissolves. So I'm happy with it. I bought it from Amazon.

    Protein Shakes

I couldn't stand the taste of protein shakes/powders. Until i bought the unflavoured genepro 30g protein per scoop. You can mix it in anything. I usually mix it with 20oz of h20 and 1 packet of crystal light. That way i get my h20 and my protein in. By far the best way to get my protein in. Sent from my LM-Q730 using BariatricPal mobile app

    flavorless protein powders?

I'd feel slightly more confident about Genepro if they didn't have a giant grammatical error right there on their home page. I'm usually not the grammar police when it comes to something like a forum post or a tweet or whatever, but when it's on the home page of an allegedly professional website?

December 26, 2018 Bypass Surgery Twins??

I am mixing one TBLSP of Genepro (30g protein) in my yogurt, cottage cheeses, etc, to get in the needed protein. Its available on Amazon and worth it. Absolutely no taste. I can't drink the protein shakes....ugh! Genepro is my life saver!
  22. I have the unflavored kind from Matrix but to me it leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Didn't happen before surgery. Same with unjury chicken flavored. I can't stand the stuff now. I also have GENEPRO but I have a problem with all the controversy surrounding how much protein is actually in the stuff. I'll order some isopure tomorrow. Thank you! December 13th

Hi everyone. From what I'm reading, the stall is normal. I was down 21 lbs on 01/02/17, but on 01/09/17, I went down only a pound. I'm still on puréed foods until tomorrow. The Protein shakes that I liked in the beginning are now making me nauseous. And so is the Water, but I still drink it with crystal light. My doctor and dietician say the artificial sweetener in it is ok, but I'm wondering if they're wrong. I've never heard good things about it. Does anyone have any good soft food ideas? I, too, use the GENEPRO unflavored protein. Mix it into puréed foods. Just wondering, has anyone felt any pain in different parts of their body after losing the weight? Woke up on Sunday with my back and thighs hurting so bad that I don't think I sleep more than three hours total each night. I thought it might be Sciatica, but the pain does travel down the legs. Just stay mostly around the hips, lower back and upper thighs. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    September sleevers?

Sorry to hear your struggling so much. There are a lot of options on what to buy. After reading lots of posts and being in some FB support groups I have kinda went with the majority and I ordered UNJURY unflavored protein packets and PB2 powder. I ordered Genepro unflavored protein powered of of Amazon. I think I would like to try the Nectar stuff but I am going to wait a bit. All these products are so expensive. I have also been using Premier Protein that you can get from Sams Club or walmart. Its a much better deal at Sam's. Don't beat yourself up. Do what you can do and if you make a mistake, get back on track again as soon as possible. Hope you enjoy your holiday. Im going on a small get away the last weekend of August myself. Will be interesting camping/boating with a bunch of people and Im suppose to be only doing shakes and veggies!

    Gastric Bypass Surgery

I am 68 and had the R&Y on Feb. 15. I came through surgery fine. Don't listen to your friends. If you haven't lost the weight by now, you probably never will, that was the conclusion I came to. In the end your health will improve. I'm less than 2 months from surgery and I've already dropped one and a half BP medications. The surgery isn't all roses. Foods you enjoyed before will likely become disgusting to you. This is a side effect that occurs in a very high percentage of patients of R&Y. It's usually not a longterm problem. My friend had it and his tastes returned in about 8 months. The good thing is, you're having this surgery to lose weight and if you have an aversion to most foods, that will only help you lose more. I pretty much live on smoked salmon, Starkist tuna packets, protein bars and Genepro protein powder. I mix the Genepro with diluted fruit juice. Trust me, the protein shakes you drink before surgery will not taste the same. I can't stand them now but the Genepro is tasteless. I'll eat a few crackers at times. I am at about where I'm supposed to be. I've lost 70 lbs so far. Be sure your surgeon prescribes medication to avoid gall stones. Rapid weight loss can cause them. Also, eat nuts sparingly while drinking lots of water. Lots of nuts and low water intake can cause kidney stones. You'll do fine. You're not old. I'm old!
