Does anyone know of a good Protein Shake that doesn't have artifical sweetner?
CanyonBaby replied to Addawn's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There are unflavored powders, such as GENEPRO, that you just add a scoop to whatever(beverages, hot Cereal...). The scoop is much smaller than for a shake, and has 30g of Protein. I add half a scoop to 2 scoops of shake powder, then 12 ounces of Water and blend. I sip on this throughout the day for my protein needs. Good luck to you! -

I can't do artificial sweetners either but I have found that I can drink Premiere Protein RTD shakes with no problem, no aftertaste and no headaches. Not sure what kind of sweetener is in them. I would have to go take a look. The back says sucralose?? I am just glad the don't bother me cause it is mostly what I use for lunches. I also use GENEPRO (an unflavored protein powder) in my decaf tea in the mornings. I use Splenda in my tea and again no problems. I can't use any of the Water enhancers or sugar free syrups because I cannot take the aftertaste and the headaches I get. You will get a lot of great answers on here, that's one thing I love about this site!! Good Luck!! -
Thanks for the welcome everyone! And the advise...I had read some reviews that Genepro produced less gas and bloating... @@Queen Good job with fasting and exercising...I really struggle with the exercise. I think I am the only physical therapist who hates to exercise! LOL Like you, I'm OK once I start but it is hard to overcome the inertia. I had my last required weight loss appointment and have completed all the other insurance requirements. It should all be faxed to my surgeon by the end of the day. I am hoping to have a surgery date soon. I am an educator and am hoping to have my surgery over spring break and return to work after only 1 week off. Perhaps I will need more time but we'll see. My surgeon mentioned using a liquid protein immediately after surgery. Has anyone had experience with these products? Any suggestions? Thanks!

@ LisaGB: First I was 58 (just turned 58) when I had my surgery and my life has changed drastically!!! So don't worry one bit that you think you might be too old....like most people on here our only regret is that this surgery wasn't available when we were younger...but believe me, I am making the most out of every day now!!! If you are looking for inspiration, read some blogs...they were so helpful to me. I kept a blog every Sunday for the first year so you can see a little what to expect. You can see it at http://www.queenofcrop.com/about/%C2'> Then when you read that page you can decide if you want to start at the beginning which I recommend. I started writing again a few months ago, but it is in a direction that is not for everyone....the first year is all about the weight loss. For protein powder, I started using one that was recommended here and it is far, far superior to any other in my opinion. I cannot tell you how many PP I threw out!!!! This one has NO FLAVOR and 30 grams of protein. You can order it from Amazon. It's called GENEPRO Molecular Tri-Protein Peptide. Don't waste you money on other things. As far as exercising.....start slow...get some weights and just use them when you are sitting down. I have read about many others who were on walkers and after the first month they had a Walker Burning Party!!!! You will do just fine and I suspect your diabetes will be history too!

Protein powder recommendations?

Genepro unflavored protein powder is great! You can order it from Amazon. It is 90 calories and 30gms protein per scoop. I was sleeved 11/19 and I still use it all the time in things like yogurt and even beans and ham soup -
phase 2 if you cant tolerate protein shakes... any idea on what to do?
JennsinCA replied to Castle coburg's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am on my second bag of genepro protein powder. It is my safety net when I can't get all my protein from food, which is often since I am still learning to balance food and water. I made beans and ham after Christmas and I was adding it to that. I also still have lite and fit yogurt on hand to add it to either in the morning to Jumpstart my protein for the day or at night if I don't hit my protein that day. -
What is the best unflavored protein?

I did try genepro based off of this site. I am on the opposite side. I can taste it and feel it gets clumpy. Def didn't work for me but does have a ton of protein -
I just got GENEPRO unflavored Protein and have tried it in a few things. I do not taste it and after thorough stirring it dissolves. Only a half teaspoon adds 5 grams of protein. I ordered on Amazon. If your worried about flavor, add it to strongly flavored items and just add a little. Those extra grams will add up and help you feel better. Good luck.

What absolutely saved me - genepro. I bought it at amazon. It is quite expensive but worth every penny. It is a powder that really is tasteless. You can add it to cold or warm things. Mixes extremely well with potato soup, sugar free hot chocolate. I would not be getting my protein in without it. Good luck!

Unflavored protein powder
CheleLynn45 replied to amy_lynn's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I have been using it daily. I feel good and I am losing weight pretty steadily. I will be 10 weeks out tomorrow. I use it every morning in my 32oz of decaf tea. I get my Protein and my liquids. I don't feel hungry either. I think (and it is just MY opinion) that if it wasn't giving my body what it needed I would not feel as good as I do. I have energy and I sleep really well and wake up pretty good too. Once I'm awake I get up no more lying around for hours dozing. I use the GENEPRO every morning and I drink a RTD premiere Protein shake for lunch every day. I then usually do protein filled meal for dinner with my family. My doc said I can start adding veggies but once I eat my protein I am pretty full. And I listen to my bent been sick yet and I hope that continues! -

Of those of you who use Genepro, are you still using it and do you still like it? I am having trouble getting my protein in and need to find a way to add it to my liquids or meals. -

If you are still using Genepro, do you still like/use it? Concerned about wasting money since others say it is not possible to put that much protein in such a small quantity. -
I was. Wondering if any of those of you who have used genepro are you still using it and do you like it? I was concerned after reading that it is not possible to get in that much protein in such a small quantity.

Genepro!!! Genepro!!! Genepro!!! Genepro!!! Genepro!!! -
You might want to try Genepro (I bought mine in Amazon). You only need 1 tbs for 30 grams of protein! It has no taste and mixes into anything (crystal light, broth, yogurt, apple sauce, etc...) without leaving a funky taste. It's really helped me!

I use GENEPRO everyday in my 32oz of my hot decaf tea every morning, and I mix it into other stuff if I find I am behind in my Protein for the day. Love this stuff!! Has been a life saver for me!! -
I am a couple weeks further along than you. I eat pretty much what I want (as low fat as possible) Two weeks ago I was in a terrible stall. It was my third one but this lasted over a week. I eat what I want. I had to add a protein powder back into my diet. I got sick on a grilled piece of chicken and just can't seem to eat solid meats tonight I had about 1/2 of a tamale with 2 tlb spoon beanless chilli and 1 tlb spoon fat free sour cream. Lunch was 1 baked salmon patty with ketchup, breakfast a 80 calorie light and fit yogurt with 1 tlb spoon genepro protein powder.

I use both Unjury and Genepro. With Genepro you don't have to use as much and you can mix it in hot or cold. -
First stop worrying, I know it is easier said then done. That sucks that your doc is not giving you more guidance than that. You will find answers on here will vary from doc to doc and what works for one may not work for another. So I will share with you what my doc had/has me doing. I will be 10 weeks post op on Monday. I was given a sheet along with a great informational book and journaling book at my required 2 1/2 hour pre op class. (Very informative and my husband and daughter went so they could hear first hand what to expect, I was surprised there were not people there with support people) I thought I wouldn't touch that journal because I would use my phone but it is my holy grail. I LOVE IT!! On my sheet were my dates for my surgery, when to do just liquids, full liquids, purees and so on. At my 2 1/2 week check in they started me on my Vitamins and calcium chews. I have been able to call my doc office anytime I had questions and the NP there is wonderful and I love talking with her. My docs office has me on two shakes a day and one small Protein rich meal a day, no Snacks. When I went back this past Tuesday they said I can start adding veggies and other things IF I HAVE room. Which once I get in 3-4oz of protein I usually do not. They said to continue with this program this way if it is working for me for optimal weight loss. It works and is working and is not that hard for me so I am. Here is a typical day for me just for an example: Breakfast: 32oz of deaf black tea, with one scoop of my GENEPRO unflavored protein, creamer and splenda 31 grams of protein, 32 oz of liquid Lunch: one RTD Premeier Protein shake vanilla or chocolate 30 grams of protein Dinner: (I usually save my food meal for dinner to eat with my family) I do 3-4oz of some kind of protein (tuna fish with light mayo, chicken breast, beef tips, lunch meat with cheese roll ups) anywhere from 12-19 grams of protein. I always do 24-32 oz of tea in the evening with 1/2 portion of miralax (I had a few days of things not moving and DO NOT want to repeat that ) and if I find my protein intake low I will add some genepro into that, but usually I am good. I am getting in 64-80 oz of liquid in a day, more hot tea than plain Water now that the weather here in AZ is freezing. I find that I am not hungry during they day and only once in awhile I look at something and think I am gonna eat that, but then I don't. Oh I have added in Quest bars, around 170 calories and 20 grams of protein if I want more chewy than drinky stuff. I am averaging around 400-600 calories a day and feel satisfied. I can totally relate to your not wanting to fail. I believe this, if I went thru this surgery I am going to work Sherman (the name of my new stomach thanks to my daughter) for all it's worth. I want to get the most weight off during the "golden" hours. I am also working out 3-4 days a week. I took a break this last two weeks over the holidays, but I still lost weight, but back I go next week. Sorry this is so long, you will get some great answers and encouragement on here. Post often, read as much as you can and breath, you can do this. I started at 314 and worried too, but once the weight starts coming off, you find what works for you and you get a routine you will do great!!

I really enjoy Genepro, it mixes in to everything so nice with barely any taste. It's worth the money! -
If you are trying out samples, be sure to try those that are 100% Protein isolate, which is the most absorbable protein. Examples that I can think of right now are unjury (available online), Syntrax nectar, and GENEPRO.

Genepro is sold online. Try Amazon.
