Im on liquids (phase 2) for two weeks then I move straight to soft foods. No purée phase. I start soft foods Tuesday but today I wanted to see if I could stomach some soft foods bc it was my kids’ bday party and I had Mexican catered and also bc I didn’t want ppl asking why I wasn’t pigging out like usual. I ate about 6-8 bites of refried beans, ground beef, salsa, and cheese. I felt GREAT! Not a single problem. Man did it feel good to eat normal food (well normal enough for now). I think introducing a bite here and there won’t hurt. I do think eating hard stuff and too much of it might hurt! Hope this helps!

Hello Everyone! I was blessed to get the sleeve after multiple attempts to lose weight naturally. I’m currently 10 Days post opp and able to handle more fluids than originally stated. I can drink 6-8 ounces in 20 minutes time by sipping and not feel sick. I’m not hitting protein goals bc I’m not hungry and that is hard to sip. Is this normal ? I’ve talked to my dr and he’s not concerned I’ve lost 18 pounds since surgery before the pre-op diet I was 294 the day of surger I was 281 and my follow up was Friday and I weighed 263. Has any one experienced this ? An I still gonna get full once I one to soft foods ?

common sense is a superpower or some such ...the key is to stick with it, hell I'm losing slowly probably because my hormones are all out of wack etc. I'm on low dose bc to keep PCOS at bay and would like to slowly wean off of a lot of pills I'm on, think of a leveler and the bubble it's all over the place right now, I've not had a honeymoon period but I keep trucking through because the sun will come up tomorrow bet my bottom dollar that tomorrow they'll be sun...

Got my Surgery Date!!!! :) 4/2/18! Calling out any April surgery buddies!!!!
Postop replied to Glamgirl's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
I'm an April surgery (2005). I puked a lot my first year. Mostly bc I was drinking too much after eating as I was parched. It could definitely be bc you're eating too quickly or too much too quickly. This isn't to say you're eating too much (especially if it's protein) it just may be too much at one sitting. I still need 2 or more sittings for a meal. -

I feel like I’m going nuts bc I was under the impression after the bypass you had considerable time before you felt that! Every time I’m around food my tummy feel “funny”. Not quite a growl but definitely empty! I’m panicking bc I am sad that it isn’t stopping even after my protein drinks. I have lost 20 pounds from the liver reduction diet and obviously surgery, but I just want it to stop. -

With your insulin jumpin' all over the place and your sugars spiking I'd be amazed if you had a thimble size tummy and weren't still starving. In short, there is ZERO bariatric surgery that is going to help you. Zero. Sorry. Don't mean to harsh your mellow. I'm only pre-diabetic with an A1c at last check of 5.3. Whah??? Yep, cuz I control it with my diet and now with exercise and it continues to go down. If I ate like you, it would not be long before my A1c was back well over my 6.9 that was when I quit low carbing for a while and started back eating SAD. It would probably be a lot higher, more toward the 8's. I would want to sacrifice small animals and people to satisfy my ravening hunger and appetite. So you have two choices. You can either start being part of your solution, or you can let this "magic bean surgery" help you about as much as it can/will...which may not even meet the national or international averages. You can allow the tool to help to its capacity, but more, you have to adopt a proper diet and not that BS diabetic diet spouted by the ADA or whomever you listen to...if I were in your position, I'd get this guy's book and read it, then internalize it and live it. Within 4 days to 2 weeks you will turn your life around. Your hunger will diminish so much and start to come into alignment. And finally, you will be maximizing the opportunities provided by your new tool. This is one of the smartest diabetologists I've ever seen. He pioneered the concept of eating to your meter, and pioneered and helped develop the home glucometer. http://www.diabetes-book.com/ -

Its a weird feeling when your BS drops and you are in "normal" range. You said you start feeling crazy at 5, which is 90 in US metrics.... I usually wake up around 70. I feel hungry and shaky, but ideally you should be sitting between a 6-7 all day long. When you are at a 8-10, that is too high, and your body will react to dipping down, but that doesn't mean that you are "hungry", it just means your blood sugar is lower. I'd try hydrating when it gets within normal range. -

Ideally, you are a type 2 diabetic. You may not need insulin, at all, if you are less than 30 grams of carbs per day. If you truly stick with that diet plan, you can go without (still test) and see where your BS falls. -

If you cut way down or completely cut out most of the carbs that you are eating, you would see a HUGE difference not only in your BS but also in your appetite. Eating carbs puts us in a vicious cycle and you will continue to be hungry and crave carbs. Try it. Even just for a week or so. You will see a major difference. -

I would test before Breakfast and 1 hour after dinner. You want to take advantage of what little info you are able to gain. What is your typical fasting blood glucose level? Those are exactly the times that I test. Post surgery my BS is about 12 for fasting. I purposely do not take a lot of insulin at night because I live alone and if I go hypo there is no one here to help me get glucose or shake out of it if I am sleeping. I am happy with 8-10 for fasting levels right now I was a completely out of control diabetic. I only started to reign it in about 4 months ago when I had my ah ha moment. In my out of control days I was regularly at 26-31 at night and fasting levels of 18-23. Crazy numbers -

I am a caretaker for my diabetic mother. I test her bs twice a day as directed by her Dr. Once in the morning before breakfast and once at night before dinner. If her bs is out of range in the evening, I increase her (combo) insulin by 2 units the next morning. If her bs is out of range in the morning, I increase her insulin by 2 units at night. This is the method that her Dr gave us and it works very well. Not sure if it will help you or not but wanted to toss it out there. -
Federal Blue Cross/Blue Shield and Revisions

Here is a list of all topics with "Fed BC/BS" listed, you should be able to find answers or folks to talk to about this question. I'm sure there aren't a lot of folks here that can answer this for you. I'm on GEHA and didn't have too much issues, When I had my band I had BC/BS and they were super easy to deal with, so it's really just going to depend on your plan, etc. https://www.bariatricpal.com/search/?&q=Fed BC/BS -
It takes a lot of work to stay hydrated bc you have to take constant sips. You will no longer be able to gulp/guzzle down water. I don't know your exact situation, but I wouldn't want to be freshly postop in the summer heat.

Thanks for asking! It feels a little bit better today. I think I might have been eating too many salads? Too many fresh veggies? I am feeling much more restriction now. Just like right after surgery. So I am taking it easy and just having protein shakes and soft foods in small amounts. Oh yeah, and lots of water bc it is so freaking hot! No ER trip for me. I changed jobs and this is the 1 week I don't have insurance. 😕

Concerns about calorie intake
FluffyChix replied to OneYearLater's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Live today. You do you. There is NO cookie cutter solution to weight loss even post surgery. You must find a style/type of eating that you can do long term the rest of your life. It needs to be extensible, meaning that you have to be able to do the short term weight loss mode and then convert it down the road to maintenance level macros. Take care of your food and exercise every day and the future will take care of itself. If what you're doing today isn't working? Reprogram and move forward. The end. Tomorrow ALWAYS takes care of itself one way or another. I'm almost 5 months out and I average between 600-750 per day. I get 65-75g of protein daily (90% of that is from food); eat around 25g net carbs; and healthy fat like avocados, seeds, olive oil fills the balance of the calories. I eat ALMOST a pound a day of leafy and low glycemic veggies and have 1 serving of berries daily. I eat extremely healthy and nutrient dense mostly whole foods without being fanatical about it. I'm a mid-hedonist meaning that I do employ the help of some small amounts of super low/no cal, super low carb/no sugar, super low/no fat prepared dressings, sauces, marinades, and gravies (no it's not ice cubes). I tried raising my calories to 800-850/day in order to "be like everyone else" on here who spout about 1000-1200 cals per day. And I personally can't do it. My monthly weight loss was cut in half from about 14lbs/mnth to 7lbs/mnth. I don't know about you, but I did NOT just rearrange my innards only to be satisfied with losing 6-7lbs per month! Plus, why do I need to artificially "supplement" my diet with extra calories or fat I don't need -- I have plenty of fat stores on my ass -- or "empty junk calories" from treats that I don't crave anymore? If I'm hungry I eat. But I'm rarely if ever hungry. If I don't eat by the clock, I would accidentally skip meals. I eat schedule "meals" - rarely is a meal over 200cals--RARELY: B-protein coffee (about 3oz of Premier Protein mixed with 3oz of Silk Cashew Milk which has calcium, vit D for 25 cals/cup) spread across 3 cups of decaff brewed coffee Second Brekky-protein forward meal with some kind of leafy greens Lunch-protein forward meal with some kind of leafy greens and raw veggie or cooked "green soup" Dinner-protein forward meal with some kind of cooked veg + avo/tomato salad BS-If necessary, anything I need to complete my food plan for the day. Or just a sf popsicle. Good luck finding your way! You will do it!!! -
Looking for male testimony on band to sleeve
Crazy Bubba posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I read and appreciate all reads from lady’s but having a hard time finding men like myself in late 50s that had success going to sleeve after lap band - I had the band 8 years ago and lost about 40 pounds the first 6 months- lots of problems getting stuck and hungry all the time , after 4 years of bs I just had all the saline taken out ! Just been hanging in there about where I started but now want to take another stab at it with the sleeve - I want the band out because i believe it has caused me esophagus problems , and port seems to have scar tissue making a bump - so I thought kill 2 birds with one stone ! Question: Is failure with band any sign that sleeve will not be successful and I should opt for lobotomy ? -
It has been almost 8 weeks since I had gastric sleeve surgery. Everything has been great, tolerating all foods and meeting my protein and fluid goals. All of a sudden 3 days ago I started having stomach pain, feels just like right after surgery. I can only take small sips, hurts to eat any food. I am still getting my protein through shakes. My surgeon took me off prilosec bc everything has been fine, but I started retaking it as soon as this began. Anyone else have this happen? Any suggestions?

I have never had any kind of surgery, hospital visit/stay, major injury of any kind, and a high threshold for pain so for being two weeks post op, I'd have to say I'm overall a 3. I was up and walking within couple of hours of my surgery, drinking water, and but stomach felt like I did three hours of abs in the gym. Next day in hospital, i drank two shakes with ease and more than enough water and was sent home. Week 1 I was more exhausted than anything. Pain was medium and just used the Tylenol I was prescribed, 4 times a day(I am down to just once at bedtime now), not the Oxy I was also prescribed, and of course the nausea pills and pill to prevent stones. First week as far as shakes, no problem getting three in a day. Then came the start of week 2! I was so weak bc of how little cals I was taking in plus I added walking 2 miles a day in and was basically useless after walking. Then this past weekend(day 10) I felt a revival! I started eating couple fork fulls a scrambled egg whites, a couple of spoonfuls of well blended chicken salad or seafood salad, and slice of thin deli american cheese throughout the day as I knew myself and needed something of substance but didn't want to put myself at risk with chewing meats, and along with a shake & half to make sure I was getting 65g of protein, and I feel surprisingly great for two weeks post op. Energy level is way up, more pep in my step, pain is virtually gone, and I feel like a person again. Into my third day of a morning 2mi walk and nighttime 2mi walk despite the heat wave here in RI. I've lost 22lbs in 13 days and hope to lose 3 more before post op appt Thursday! I am hoping my surgeon officially okays soft foods/soup regimen as my paperwork states and start going back to gym. I'm losing about a 1lb a day on average, pain free, and so looking forward to what's ahead.

How to find a good surgeon - this is delaying my entire process :(
sillykitty replied to Assya's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I started by researching VSG on RealSelf. The Dr. I used caught my eye because he was a frequent contributor and answered a lot of questions, and was super local. I figured only passionate surgeons would spend their time answering questions for free. And to me, I figured that was a good sign. He also had good reviews on RealSelf. I next looked up the status of his license, and it came up all clean, no issues at all. I looked at his CV. He went to excellent schools, for his BS and his MD. He then did a Fellowship in Bariatric surgery. That was really important to me, as he took the time to educate himself in this specialty. He is a member of ASMBS. Finally, he is on staff with some of the best local hospitals. Prestigious hospitals do not allow bad Dr.'s on their staff. He also is the Medical Director of Bariatric surgery for the hospital I had my surgery, which is a Center of Excellence. So I took all those pieces together, and I concluded that a surgeon with a poor record would have a red flag, somewhere. Since I found no red flags, he was local, he was in network, that this was the best surgeon for me. I would agree with this, if I were having a more complex surgery. Or if my treatment was for something chronic or severe. But honestly, VSG is in the scope of things, a simple and routine surgery. There really isn't a lot of variable my surgeon would have to know me personally to decide. I get what you are saying though. I'm going to have plastics later this year (hopefully!). For that surgeon, it will important that they understands exactly what I want. It will be important that we are able to communicate clearly to one another, and that I am definitely not a statistic. But plastics has so many variables, where bariatric surgery has few in comparison. I'm fine with my surgeons standard VSG operation, but I don't want a standard boob job! -
Fever, pain & vomiting . IM OVER it

Yess ! Omg you are spot on. I’m definitely glad i chose to go to emergency and stay there because there’s no telling what would’ve happened if I’d gone home like i wanted to. I only waited roughly 30- 45 mins to be seen in triage then i had to wait to be brought back Bc their ED was pretty full. I was honestly pretty afraid of what they would say considering i hadn’t thrown up in their presence until I’d been brought back to a room. I was happy to see that they were able to see what was going on with me via the blood tests and Urine test that were done . Even though i could barely produce any urine since i was so dehydrated. I always get paranoid when coming to ED Bc I’ve seen first hand working in a hospital how things can be brushed off , or because you aren’t physically ill in their faces that there isn’t anything wrong . You know ? As for my mom.. I am super thankful for her support. Unfortunately she has to work so i haven’t been able to see her too much since I’ve been admitted but she still checks on m as if she were still here. -
I had my pre op labs drawn in april (super early bc im inpatient) and my iron saturation was "low" at 12% no big deal, started taking the iron +vit c barimelts to get in a good routine for post op. Went last week to get redrawn and low and behold my iron saturation dropped to 8%? Everything else comes back "normal". Should I be worried? Anyone else have this pro orpost op? Surgery is 3 weeks away- starting to freak out a little
BostonWLKC replied to MN_Meg770's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Mine was and is uneventful - I think we hear other stories BC quite frankly it’s probably boring hear how great it’s going v seeking advice when things are going well. As for food— Matty is tight- things change which is great. I don’t crave foods anymore . Once you’ve established good eating habits things are great. Other than foamies once or twice in the early weeks - nothing to write home about. Have never thrown up etc You’ll be ok! -

Can’t seem to make heads or tails of my benefit.... Has anyone had a revision from Sleeve to RYN using Fed BC/BS? If so, how long did you have to wait? Did you have to go to “school” again?
