Hi Lynda Thanks for answering. We had dinner at friends last night and the guy is a chef.To not offend them (they still dont understand that I really cant eat much and dont eat carbs) I had a little of everything he insisted I try, even the cheesecake. It was duck, which I avoid as it is very fatty, mash potato, cabbage ect ect. When we got home I had a panic attact when I was reading through some posts on long termers eating and regain. The thought that struck me was if my volume increase much I am screwed! My food capacity varies greatly from day to day and of course the carbs go in sliding..lol. I dont overeat but even when I see your 2oz of Protein portions I fear that I can eat 3,5 some days with ease.(fish, ground beef) I cannot think of the future.will have to do this one day at a time.It was also thinking of plastics and how strange people look when they regin after plastics that sends me into a spin. Have decided to wait one year with plastics.Get into maintanance, maybe wait for menopause to pass..lol. Again, thanks for responding.I will plod along. It has served me well in the past 10 months and I will not regain.Even if I have to think about this mindfully every day for the rest of my life.

I own them all!!!! Including the original movie and the two sequal movies. I once bid 3000 dollars for a chance for my wife to have lunch on set with Richard Dean Anderson, while making this last movie. I lost. It went for 33000 dollars!!!!! I also own the Wizard of Oz painting that was above the directors desk for 10 years. Ok, and I own a couple of props from the filming of the series, a zatnicatil and a gun from the Wormhole Xtreme episode. I won't say what they cost, too embarrassing.

I just got word that my insurance approved my surgery!!! This has been such a long road beginning 6 years ago when I initially wanted gastric bypass. My insurance through my job won't cover WLS, so I finally got creative and added my hubby's insurance as secondary insurance effective 1/1/10. After completing my 6 month supervised diet last week, I am scheduled for my surgery on Monday, May 17. I am so excited, scared, shocked, and giddy all at the same time. I am so ready for this next stage of my life. This board has been an inspiration to me over the past few months. Thank you to everyone for taking the time to post, respond, and encourage others.

I really want to cheat on this preop!!
Marimaru replied to hippiegirl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Regarding your comment "with the band I can eat"... post op you will be on a liquid diet for however long your doctor says, and you MUST NOT cheat on that diet. That diet is so that your band can heal properly in place so that you avoid slippage in the future. You wont even be able to have the lettuce and the vegetables you've already been having. I don't mean to lecture, but it's only been 10 days, and I know at least my post op liquid diet was 3 weeks (between clears and fulls). Then mushies. -
Should I tell my dad??
curtsj01 replied to ShaliseSleeved@18's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Secrets can not be kept forever. I understand not wanting to tell everyone due to the stigma attached to WLS. But eventually he will learn the truth. I'd rather give him the information so that he may do with it as he pleases rather then him making stuff up telling people I am on drugs etc. etc. etc. If you don't have the closest of relationships with him (as I with my mom) you can make the choice if you are going to actively continue to listen to his negative behavior after letting him know. Negativity is negativity. I would rather it be about the truth rather then a falsehood that he may be spreading about you. Maybe he will need time to process the info, but my wishes are that with time he will be happy that you made the decision to get you health under control and not live a life full of co-morbid diseases. When I explain it to people as such - that I just want to be healthy, not live with all these obesity related diseases and I admit that I can not do it with diet and exercise alone; they seem to understand it better then just thinking I wanted the easy way out. Since you have already lost 70+ lbs, give him examples of how this has changed your life. Are you sleeping better, concentrating in school better, are stairs easier to handle, more energy, more active? You don't need to sell him on the idea because it's done. I would explain to him that your only request is that he be happy that you made a positive choice in your life so the next 50-70 years is not going to be a living hell. And remember, no matter what he says, it's already done. Nobody is going to put your stomach back in. So he can say what he wants, it's not going to change the fact. I have gone up and down in weight too many times in the last 10 years. When my friends and family can tell me where I tend to lose the weight first on my body, it makes my wish I would have done it at your age. I think it is a great decision to start your adult life with. Kudos to you. -
I am now 1 week post op and had been recovering quite well I think. I spent Tuesday night helping out at a cold weather shelter where I really did absolutely nothing except sit in a chair most of the night. No one would let me lift anything etc because the knew I was only 5 days post op. well, yesterday I slept most all day and today and I still sore as nobodies business. If I had it to do all over again I would, because homelessness is a cause I feel very passionately about and whatever pain I am feeling is nothing compared to the pain and suffering of living on the streets, especially when it is cold outside, but whew....taking way longer to recover than I thought it would. I can't really say anything to my family and friends about how sore I am because not one of them wanted me to go to the shelter The good news is I am 35 pounds down from my HW. 10 pounds from DOS and that included the 8 pounds I put on in Fluid at the hospital!

Can I drive the next day do you think?
dancinglamb replied to stef123633's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had surgery on a Monday, came home on Tuesday and drove on Wednesday. I had to get the kids to preschool - there was no WAY I was keeping them home with me!! I think it depends on how you react to pain killers, and whether or not you feel you will be able to quickly hit the brakes if you have to. I've had several surgeries on both ankles and hands, and have become very adept at working around surgery and meds, so the mild stuff that was given to me really didn't affect my reflexes or cognitive abilities. So, to answer your question, I'd keep the appt. Just absolutely, positively DO NOT lift the kids. Don't even think about it. (I taught my 3yo how to climb in and out of her car seat a couple weeks before my surgery so all I had to do was buckle her in. It made all the difference.) ETA - the biggest trick that worked for me was to fold a really soft baby blanket (I had a nice polar fleece one) into about a 10" square and put it between the port incision and the seat belt (it happened to fit nicely just above where the buckle goes at the right angle at your right hip when sitting). It made driving 300% easier. I drove that way for about 2w. -m -
whats my goal?????help
emme2009 replied to sel1944's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
First of all, you are definitely on the right track! The **average** weightloss for the sleeve is 15-20 pounds in the first month and 5-10 pounds each month following. Congratulations on your success so far! I don't know if any of us can say specifically what your "goal" should be but I think we can help you think about the many things that you might want to set as goals. Tiffykins definitely gave you a good start. Do you want to be a normal BMI? Do you want to be a specific size? My first goal was to weigh 175 because that was the weight I remember in my adult life being comfortable at and active. I hit that in August and just kept going. I reset my goal to be a normal BMI which was 157 for my height and am just under that now. Set reasonable goals and always readjust them as you will probably meet and surpass them and continue to impress yourself Good luck! -
I exercise at night after 9 p.m. Sometimes it's as late as midnight or 1 a.m. Years ago when I was younger and in much better shape, I tried working out in the morning for about a 6 month period. Many days I got very nauseous while working out. And I always fell asleep at my desk by 2 p.m. I'm just not a morning person in any way, shape, or form. Nowadays, I get up at 10 a.m., work until 8 p.m., come home and eat dinner, get back on the computer to do more work, workout for an hour somewhere between 9 p.m. and midnight, get back on the computer and do more work, and then go to bed at 2 or 3 a.m. It's certainly not an ideal schedule, but I'm sticking with what works for me. By the way, exercise has never given me more energy. In fact, it zaps what little energy I do have. I suffer from some severe thyroid problems, so I think that's why exercise does not affect me like it does others. In general, it makes me feel awful and the only reason I do it is to burn more calories.

10 days post op - pinching & pulling feeling on left side
danni#L posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi everyone. Well I am 10 days post op and I have struggled a little with the pain and the trauma this operation had on my body. I took a week off annual leave and ended up taking a few extra days off (sick leave ) as I really did underestimate the recovery time and trauma this op has had on my body. I'm 29 year old female and I have had 2 kids naturally with no pain relief so I guess you can say i have a high pain threshold and I'm not just being a sooky la la.. Lol I was feeling ok I guess you could say today and I went for a short walk at the plaza. After returning home, out of nowhere this pain hit me on the left side like nothing else! This is on the left scar (the biggest of them all). It was like a pinching and pulling feeling like I was being stabbed from the inside out! When I hunch over it goes away.. Same when I lay down or sit. It's like it never happened. I stand up and it slightly comes back then it's there again! I started to get scared and called my GF who had the band done 1 1/2 yrs ago by the same dr as me. She knew exactly what I was talking about and said the exact same thing happened to her but only once. It went away for her over night but it was one of the worst pains she ever had and yelped so loud her husband freaked out! Are any of you guys having or had the same pain/feeling? If so what did you do about it? How long did it take to go away Do you have any tips or suggestions for me how to cope Does anyone know what it is or what is happening to cause this pain? It's not as bad now as it was a few hrs ago so hopefully this will only get better from here. I would love anyone to comment if they know anything about this or have experienced anything like it Xx -
Crock Pot Vegetarian Lasagna Recipe 1 container soft tofu 1 container firm or extra firm tofu ¼ cup soy milk ½ tsp garlic powder 2 tsp lemon juice 2 tbsp fresh basil, chopped 1 tsp salt 2 10 oz packages frozen spinach, thawed and patted dry 4 cups tomato sauce 1 box lasagna noodles Preparation: In food processor or blender, combine the tofu, soy milk, garlic powder, lemon juice, basil, and salt and process until smooth. Add spinach to this mixture. Place about a cup of the tomato sauce in the bottom of the crock pot or slow cooker. Then place 1/3 of the noodles on top of the sauce, and 1/3 of the tofu and spinach mixture on tip of the noodles. Repeat these layers, being sure to end with sauce on tip. Cook on LOW for 6-8 hours or until noodles are soft. * DO NOT OVER COOK!!! THIS IS NOT ONE OF THOSE CROCK POT DISHES THAT THE LONGER YOU COOK IT THE BETTER!

Papa Jack replied to jasleeve's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Wow I feel blessed my insurance Athem in VA approved me with no hoops. My BMI is 43. I was so happy to see that number. They scheduled everything that day. They have one lady who deals with insurance. What I do not understand is why the Insurance company's have us diet? We need the surgery, not another diet. I feel for everyone how has to weight for months. Now if this makes you feel better. I was on another forum & they have people from England on there. One lady said she is having the "Sleeve" done and was first told she was 13 months out. She just got a update and they added 10 months more on the wait list. This is socialized medicine. It would kill me to have to weight so long to get things done. -

What is a pouch test? When do I need to do one? I am 10 months post RNY and am very happy with115 lbs lost, but of course it is starting to slow down a bit, and I find myself starting to feel (or is it "think?") hungry again. I want to loose another 30 lbs and don't want to "fall off the wagon" at this point. I am still so thankful for this surgery and the drs/staff/family that are supporting me!!!! Love my new life! I want these habits to STICK, and I know that means I have to continue to WORK the program. Just needed to hear from someone out there, I haven't been on in a while. Hope all of you are well.

Amazing Meal by Amazing Grass, anyone?
windfaerie replied to JawaGal42's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
If you turn out to be a person like my husband and I who want to gag from the sight of a Protein shake at one month out from surgery you want more bang for your buck so to speak. I want it to have more protein so I do not have to force myself to drink as much. That is a lot of drinks to reach goal on the liquid stage with only 10 grams. Also something to keep in mind. I really liked some drinks and textures pre surgery after it was no go on those items. Gritty may not be a good texture on new tummy but then again may be perfect for you. Protein Drinks are very individual what you like everyone around you may hate. My husband and I drink very different things. I would not invest in huge quantities of anything and save samples to experiment with after as well as before to help with tastebud changes. -
Past and present patients of Dr. Simchuk
Me.Lisa replied to chicogirl3's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I could not have had a better experience for this procedure. There are a few nurses the who have have the surgery with the surgeons so they completely understand your issues before and after. My surgery was at 9:30 and I was in my room before noon. Got up and walked within 2 hours, the nurse encouraged me, but I had these painful gas pains in my lower right side. Walking must have helped because the gas soon passed.I got released at noon the next day. Now that I'm home and I have dropped 10 lbs in 5-6 days the only problem I am having is lower back pain that wakes me up. I suspect that it's the binder because I wear it 24/7 even to sleep in. And I am not meeting my fluid/protein requirements but that was to be expected. I'm sure your experience will be as good as mine. Maybe we will meet up in future at a support meeting. I'm not local, I'm from Yuba City area. Good luck to you -
I can't speak on the lap band but I am a tad bit over 4 months post-op on the sleeve and almost 75 pounds down. It is one of the best decisions I have ever made. I have had 10 surgeries in my life, and this one was extremely minor. I had very little pain. The only pain I really had was from the gas. I had no stomach pains or incision pains at all. Just remember to walk walk walk after your surgery and that will help tremendously with the gas pains. It's only normal to be nervous, but I think you will be glad that you went through with this. I wish you all the best luck. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G920A using the BariatricPal App

I slim a few times a month. Eating too fast does it. It was gross. I walked around my house for about 10 minutes until I burped a few times and felt much better. My ribs got thrown out Monday night because of this and I was pissed. They tasted so good. We all do it.

It's Official I Will Never Drink Soda Again
skyeblu79 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Until last night the last soda I had was on 2/19/07, the day before my surgery. Well last night I went out to dinner @ Pei Wei for chinese. @ Pei Wei you have to get your own drink, so I decided to get a little bit of regular Coke. It was probably enough for 2 sips. I just wanted the taste. I started eating my food and I just felt horrible. :sick I thought it was the food and initially I thought that it was the food. I got a little Sprite (big mistake) and I thought it would settle my stomach. The feeling just intensified and it donned on me that it could be the soda. I went to Harris Teeter and got some chewable Gas-X and Pepto Bismol. It did help w/the feeling of nausea. I have really lost my taste for soda over the last 2 months, so why I decided to take that painful 2 sips I have no idea. I am actually glad this happened b/c it helped me to end my relationship w/soda. I really realize that soda is no longer my friend. It will be missed...I guess beer is out too. My nutritionist didn't recommend drinking soda of course, but she said at 2 months out I could try some if I wanted to. I didn't know I would have this effect. Does anyone else have problems tolerating soda? I know this isn't a review on Pei Wei, but it was disappointing...P.F. Chang is much better. -
I hope I can do mine at home, I have a 10 month old. And although he will sleep through the night, I don't want to have to find a babysitter just so I can go sleep lol

Pain in butt (literally!)...help
RavenClaw779 replied to mbranham0306's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hope this isn't TMI - I had a tumor removed from my breast 10 years ago, a breast reduction and radiation so I have a lot of scar tissue in that breast. I'm down 40 pounds and all of a sudden I had terrible pain in that breast and of course with all the scar tissue I have to be careful not to freak out when I do my month BSE - Is that a lump?! Lucky for me I just had my annual mammo - while experiencing the pain(BIG FUN!) - and there was nothing there. The radiologist thinks that since I'd lost the padding the scar tissue is rubbing on the nerve. She felt that in time it would lessen - and she was right. Could be what you've got going on!?
