  1. Do you have visible swelling? Hands, feet, ankles? There is a post somewhere that basically states that while your body is breaking down fat to turn it into glycogen, it requires Water to do so... and the assumption is something like 8 pounds of water weight is typical. If you are busy building additional muscle, that probably takes even more. Please don't take the water pills. Your body is holding onto that Fluid for a reason, and when it doesn't need it anymore, it will let it go. You are still very early in this process, and are doing great! We have "the 3 week stall"... I think we need to coin "the 6 week panic" everyone goes through this! The last diet I went on I lasted for 6 weeks. Lost about 15lbs and thought I had done a great job! The difference is this is a new lifestyle for you. This isn't just another diet.

    weight gain after solid foods?

Joan, I'm not sure about the Crohn's piece of the puzzle, but almost everyone experiences a stall or even a gain at around the 3-4 week mark. I know you're in week 6, but it might be the standard stall just delayed because you had to slow down the progression of your diet. I would say don't freak out--if you're keeping track of what you're eating and you're within the suggested counts, the scale will start moving again, I promise. I thought the same thing when I hit that first point where my body said "What's going on?" and weight loss stopped for 2 weeks, but it started again and has kept going. Hang in there--I think this is your 3-week stall, just on a Crohn's schedule. HUGS, though, cause seeing that scale move up is disheartening when you're doing everything right!!
  3. It's not the raw number of calories. Even at 1250, OP is still running a significant daily deficit (I weigh about the same and burn roughly 2500cal/day on average, so OP would be running a similar deficit). I think it's far more likely to be the quality of the calories than the total number of calories. Could be partly some metabolic reaction to the sugar intake (speaking of which, OP, are the yogurts sugar free? Each one of those could add another tablespoon of sugar to your total), inflammation, fluid retention, who knows? Plus, OP is right in that "3 week stall" window, where the body may be replacing released glycogen and water. A lot of things could be happening, but my best guess is that cutting out the sugary drink and going back to basics will put OP back to the baseline. If there's still a problem, I would say it's time to talk to the doc.
  4. Doing a basic Basal Metabolic Rest calculation, I should burn at LEAST 2.5k calories. If I take in at most 1.2k calories, that means I burn 1300 calories a day, 7 days a week, that is 2.6 pounds a week. Mathematicaly, .........that doesnt make any sense when I have GAINED in the past week. I will have to ask or find something different. Maybe I should replace my frapp with a latte or something like that. Its not so much the drink, its the sweet tooth and that homey atmosphere of the coffee shop I like. Daydra, what is this 3 week stall thing that you are talking about? Sugar has never been a problem and I always thought calories are calories. Obviously Protein is better, they spammed that in my head enough, but.....what? I have been having Greek Yogurt by Yoplait pretty much every day. I live on that stuff. I havent been working out as much, but I have been active. I have been moving around. Im not sedentary. What worries me though is that my body just got used to the sugary drinks and all that, the amount of food. Instead of feeling pain, I wouldnt feel much at all. Instead of having diarrhea after the frappe, I would just be a little uncomfortable, but not much... I just never thought I would have these problems again..................and this has been an addictive thing, checking the scale. My new clothes are fitting, and Im feeling good, but its invalidated when I check the scale.

Scale Doesnt Seem To Be Moving

My "3 week stall" lasted about 5 weeks!!! ARG!!! I thought my surgery was a failure, although, I was still loosing minimal inches. Then, all of a sudden, it started going down again!!! I realized that the weight at which I had stalled, was a weight that I had previously been at for a good period of time! Also, at 3 weeks out, your body is still trying to adjust to your new stomach size. Your body thinks you're trying to starve it & therefore, holds on to as fat as it possibly can! These stalls are quite normal! Keep doing what you're doing...you will be rewarded!!!
  6. My 3-week stall (which lots of people get) started at 2 weeks also!

    Wls 2/13. Scale Isn't Moving:(

Some of the most noticeable "loss" according to my hubby was while I was in a 3 week stall...I didn't loose any weight but I lost inches. Do your jeans seem loose? Did you know your waist size before? I bet you have lost inches if not lbs.

    Heartburn.

I had surgery 7/15 and have only lost 14lbs. This past week, I haven't lost anything. Im sure im part of that 3 week stall I hear about on here. I hope it passes soon so I can start losing again!
  9. So I haven't lost any weight in like 5 days. I know its the 3 week stall. How long does this last?
  10. Is anyone stalling again? I'm stalling at 167 pounds I've lost 48.4 pounds so far. I had my surgery on August 4th, I've stalled once in the 3 week stall, but I really want to lose 33 more pounds maximum!! Idk if I could do it in 5 months! Is it the way I'm eating? I eat everything but in small amounts some days healthy some days not. I still eat carbs, but still get my protein in. I don't track calories but I have not gained any weight, and some days I eat nothing and other days I eat a pretty good amount. So is anyone else stalling? And do you think it's possible/logical to lose 33 more pounds in 5 months? What do you guys suggest!

    at a stand still

@ - you didn't share a lot of info - pre or post-op? Search "stall" and read about the 3 week stall on BP. They happen, its part of the ride! Like a roller coaster, after the big drop or so, there are the "bunny slopes".

    Am I crazy here?

I also hit my 3 week stall which kinda threw me because I hadn't really paid attention to where I was since the last few weeks have been crazy! I had my surgery done 6/5 and it seems I may have broke the stall, but I'm not positive. I weigh every other day and yesterday I had lost 2lbs since the previous weigh in. I also felt the same as far as losing inches, my husband and I actually talked about that. I don't think you're insane. According to my scale(I know the weight is accurate) which measures body fat, muscle mass, water, etc.. I have gained muscle mass so it's possible I lost fat inches but gained some muscle too so there was not a big scale difference. Either way I hope you break your stall, maybe try and move some more? We were out all weekend from Friday to yesterday and while I thought I was gonna die on Saturday I made it and then my scale started moving again. I'm 6lbs away as of yesterday from being under 200 and I think I'm finding my motivation after also putting on clothes this weekend I haven't worn in 4 years! How often do you weigh

Right now... every day. I'm 1 week post op. I'm going to try to start doing weekly because I know if I do daily and hit that infamous 3 week stall I am going to discourage myself further.
  14. You've lost 16 pounds in the first 2 weeks. You're on target. Look up the 3-week stall or 'third week stall.' It's a real phenomenon that most sleevers experience during the 2nd and 4th week post-op, but usually it happens around week 3. In addition, when is the last time you lost 16 pounds in less than 3 weeks? I assume the answer is 'never.' Realistic expectations are important throughout the weight loss phase. The vast majority of my monthly losses were single digit (read: 1 to 7 pounds per month). What matters to me is the bigger picture: I lost 100+ pounds and have kept it off. Good luck to you, and try to stay off the scale for a few weeks.
  15. Omg I'm on my 3 week stall!!! It's real. I lost it decided I spent 10,000 dollars and I'm going to fail. Emo hardcore. I mean let's color my hair black and keep my bangs in my face Emo.
  16. Hey, I had a VGS on 22nd Nov and now 4weeks PO. I’ve lost 22lbs so far (11lbs of this on the LRD pre surgery). I was hoping for a little more progress than where I’m at currently, I’ve been sitting at a loss of 22lbs for the last 2 weeks - I know of the 3 week stall period, just want to see if anyone had had similar losses to me in their first 4 weeks to see if I’m on track, as often posts I see it seems everyone has massive losses in the first month or so and mine seems a little low :( starting weight was 250lbs ans I’m 5ft 8in for reference - thank you

just want to know I'm not alone....

You can do it! The buyer's remorse will go away and soon you will feel like this is the best thing you could have ever done. It won't feel like that for a while but it will come. Your hormones will probably bounce all over the place in the next couple of months as your weight drops! Hold on and don't let yourself get too down. And please remember....the stalls will come soon too. The first one (the dreaded 3 week stall) will really make you question your decision. It will pass! Follow your program and keep your chin up. We have all been through the same feelings at some point. Rant, rave, yell, question, whatever you need to on here. We know!

    No More Weightloss?

look up the 3 week stall. Almost every one of us goes through it. Trust me, you're not done losing weight!
  19. I know exactly how you feel because I"m going through the same thing you feel. I had surgery on the Nov 18th and lost 10 pounds the 1st week nothing since then. I actually haven't weighed in over a week because I didn't want to keep feeling defeated by the scale not moving. 3 week stalls are not a myth. It's just your body trying to adjust but it really sucks.

    the dreaded three week stall!

OK so I knew it might happen, but hoped it wouldnt!! it has!! the dreaded 3 week stall, no weight loss for a week now so whats going on?!! I am consuming all my water, protein is up in the 70's i am exercising. Please someone give me some hope that this will end soon?? I have 5 weeks until I go on a cruise and really want to be 14lb down by then!! its very very frustrating (also not constipated!!) many thanks for any support or advice!
  21. I can't believe I'm making one of these threads after reading the forums for weeks before my surgery and knowing what to expect. I learned about the 3-week stall and sure enough when 3 weeks rolled around my weight loss stopped. The first week I took it in stride but now it's 6 weeks and I'm still not losing. I've only lost 23lbs since the day of my surgery and while that isn't a horrible number it's not a good number for me. 20 of those where in the first 2 weeks. The last 3 were lost in the next 3-4 weeks. Losing 1-2lbs a week is great.... but NOT when you're in month 2 post-op. These are horrible numbers and I didn't start out on the lower end, so no I don't believe I should be losing this slow. I'm only 5'3 and small framed with 100lbs to go, deep down I know I'm failing. It's so hard seeing others post they lost 60 pounds in 4 months for example when I now know I will never reach this. I'm very frustrated that I'm wasting the most optimal weight loss time. My doctor told me the first 6 months is when you lose the most and should take advantage and exercise as much as you can. Here I am at 2.5 months and still not able to get over this stall. And because you will ask, yes I've been exercising as much as I can, lately everyday. I believe I eat right. Yesterday was: 710 calories 68 Protein 30 carbs (-5 Fiber carbs) 33 fat 5 glasses of Water 429 calories burned exercising = 281 net calories Wednesday: 602 calories 73 protein 21 fat 29 carbs (-6 fiber carbs) 5 glasses water 684 calories burned exercising = -82 net calories The only thing I'm low on is water (but since some of my food is liquid I do hit the minimum). Adding more exercise hasn't broken the stall. I was at around 500-600 calories and upped it to around 700 and that hasn't broken it. I'm not sure what else to do except going back to full liquids. I dread that because it felt like a diet and I was miserable. I had days where I broke down and cried I hated that phase so much. I want to feel like I'm living life not living on a diet. Thanks

    Managing my expectations

Wow, thank you so much for all of your responses. I had to smile at the infamous 3 weeks stall... Here I am doing everything right up 1 pound down 1 pound up 1 pound down one pound. Grrr. And yes, I get up and weigh first thing. And I read everything I can find online which has been dead I can expect everything from 10 pounds a week to 10 pounds in a month. It suddenly occurred to me this morning that the surgery did not change the fact that you have to burn more than you consume. Guess a bikini is out for this summer. ????????????
  23. Hello all, This is, as my username states, a random rant. I had my surgery on 3/22. I have stuck to the plan thus far: around 90g of protein and 100 oz. of water per day, at least an hour of walking which is also supplemented with weigh training every other day. I only eat eggs, grilled chicken and fish. Nothing fried, no rice, no potatoes, no bread, no soda. I've been pretty proud of my diet. And yet I am stalled. I went through the dreaded 3 week stall in the beginning and thought it was over but now I am at 4 months and have been bouncing the same few pounds since June. I have tried everything to break it: increasing calories, lowering calories (I average around 600 or so per day), increasing exercise, decreasing exercise, changing the routine, and now I am on the third day of the protein shake diet and no results. I'm not really expecting any. I have lost around 40 pounds so far and I started at 212. I spoke with my surgeon who told me to "enjoy it while it lasts". Not really helpful. He also told me "when's the last time you lost 40 pounds?" to which I replied "when's the last time I had 85% of my stomach removed?" It just doesn't seem realistic that I should be so restricted and yet my body is already in maintenance mode. Yes, embrace the stall and all that but I'm losing hope. This is just a rant because I have to get this off my chest but any help given is greatly appreciated.
  24. So I hit the 3 week stall (I hit it a little early) but the scale finally moved today. It will be one month tomorrow and from the beginning of the process I am now down 35lbs. Current weight: 259! So amazing from 294. But my real happiness had come from the fact I have started having people say (that do not know I had the surgery) how great I look and, wow, you have lost weight, you look great. My biggest compliment of all came from my Mom yesterday. She said, "holy chow your losing your boobs!" (I wear a DDD and it is getting quite big on me) also, I am wearing clothes I haven't worn in years. I am so grateful to my sleeve!

    Weight gain post surgery. Help!

You are probably experiencing the dreaded 3 Week Stall. I couldn't find the link to the article about it but I'm sure someone will post it. Our bodies figure out that the calorie deficit we have forced upon it is going to be long-term and goes into starvation survival mode. I have not yet had surgery but I've read enough on this site to know this is very common and weight loss will continue.
