Help, please! Premier Protein shakes taste awful to me.. Need recommendations!
jess9395 replied to blissfulbeing's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Please read the Genepro thread on here. It doesn't have 30 g of protein per scoop, it actually has 10g. They claim its 3x more bio available so it's EQUIVALENT to 30g of another brand, but the science is questionable or at least unverified by independent research. Just FYI. I can't do premier either before or after surgery. Tastes plastic to me. I use Syntrax and BSN powders and the occasional premade Atkins or GNC Lean. -

Your taste does change. Right after surgery I could not stand Premier....could not gag them down....too thick...too chalky. Tried one the other day and decided it wasn't too bad after all and ended up buying three cases (because they were on sale for $19.99..LOL). Since my surgery up to this time...I used GENEPRO...it is oderless and tasteless...I mix it with Crystal Light....30 grams of Protein....I get it from Amazon. -

LOL---Love your candid! You are so right....I'm not right and you're not wrong!!! I have had a gentleman jump on me more than once because I use GENEPRO??? States he is a doctor.....my question in my mind is always..."if you are a doctor...how do you find time to be on this blog and monitor the discussions......practice must be slow???"...LOL -

Never used any ready to drink shakes I didn't find any I liked. Purchased unjury chocolate flavor. Mix it with coconut almond milk in a shaker Took it on the go wherever I went. Heated up for hot cocoa. I went to IKEA and bought several metal tumbler cups with lids and they keep my drinks cold or hot first long as I take to drink them. And I use a thermos to take extra milk to work if I need it. I carry Genepro flavorless protein powder add to my water or oatmeal or crystal light. -
Have you ladies heard of genepro protein?

Genepro is what I use daily, and it's not a huge scoop, more like a tablespoon. -

Like Bufflehead said, as soon as I saw the other products they put out and the "miracle" performance they claim, I ruled them out as a reputable source. Nowhere could I ever find if genepro has a complete amino acid profile. And the complete lack of third party, scientific, fact-based evidence, and no FDA approval are other obvious red flags that this is a scam. -
Hello, SO for everyone who uses GENEPRO Protein powder. I have been trying to get the people at Musclegen ( the company that makes it. To help me understand their claim that 1 tablespoon of their product contains 30 grams of protein when the tablespoon itself only holds 15 grams of product. Finally after posting numerous times on their website and Facebook I emailed them directly to see if they wished to send me some product to try, under my video taste tests that I do on my blog. Well they declined and also explained about the product and its claims. This one blew my mind. They do not have 30 grams of protein in one tablespoon of product. The say that their product is absorbed 3 times better than regular whey isolates so therefore the 10 grams of protein in their tablespoon is equal to the absorbed amount when you drink 30 grams with a non genepro product. Well! they do not do this knowing that sleeve patients ( I don't know about band or DS) due to the smaller surface area of the stomach absorb more per area than a normal person does. So if you are really trying to get the amount of protein you need, then you need to triple up on this stuff. I personally do not like this marketing ply of the 30 grams in one tablespoon thing. But I have no control over that.

Try GenePro. You can get it on Amazon. It is unflavored, you can mix it with anything. Even HOT. you only use a Tbsp to get 30g protein so it doesn't make your drinks thick or change the texture of your food. I have put it in mashed potatoes, cr of wheat, cottage cheese, yogurt, etc. My favorite is: 10-12 ounces of unsweetened vanilla almond milk 1Tbsp GenePro 1tsp instant coffee 2tsp unsweetened baking cocoa 2 pkgs Stevia I can't stand those thick drinks, yuck. But this is yummy, I have one everyday.

Non flavored protein powder
BloomingLotus replied to fuzzyangelbear's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I use GENEPRO and really like it. I just received my second batch. It really does dissolve complete and doesn't affect texture or flavor of what you put it in. I do advise stirring before each sip if you're putting it in liquid, as it seems to settle a little if left untouched. I use it in my coffee each morning (I'm pre-op) and last night used a scoop in my tasty dinner of chicken broth. So long as you slowly mix it in while stirring (as opposed to just dumping the whole scoop at once) it has always worked fine for me! As a side note - ordering directly from them is less expensive than Amazon, and i emailed customer service first they give me a coupon code (albiet small, but always good) -

JamieLogical replied to fuzzyangelbear's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Just to be clear here, it's "the equivalent" of 30g of protein in that GENEPRO. You can decide for yourself if that's accurate. It's true that not all Proteins are created equal in terms of how much is absorbed into the body and how it is used by the body. So their claim that you are getting the benefit of 30g of protein in a tablespoon may be accurate, compared to some of the other protein sources available where the type of protein isn't absorbed well or utilized well by the body. -

Where are the November Sleevers?
happymama2014 replied to ToccoraVSG's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Checking in! I'm doing well. I'm down 45 lbs since 11-6-14 surgery day. Progress Definitely slowed down in dec because I ate things besides protein! But I am doing great. Only complaints are not being able to get in the recommended Vitamins (I throw them up several times a week) and still wanting to eat beyond what my body can handle. I find if I wait to long to eat I eat too fast and really I can only take in 3-5 bites. I continually take another and its to much. Wish I could figure out when to stop but I'm sure I will get there. Typical day is powdered coffee drink/sugar free, mixed in blender ball with GENEPRO Protein powder and hot Water. ---Then lunch is tuna with 1 tsp mayo and sometimes with a few wheat thins or a chunk of rotissirie chicken no skin or avacado and corn chips. ---Snack is yogurt or fruit. ---Dinner is chicken 1-3 oz and a bite or two of veggies. ---Sometimes I eat veggies seperate an hour before so I can eat a whole serving which my dr frowns on... But I love me some veggies!! --- pm snack is string cheese or fruit or whatever I want low calorie. Pretty much I have what I want just less of it and I choose protein more often than other things I used to have. Example used to love waffles with pbutter and syrup now I have half piece Dave's killer bread toasted with 2 tsp pbutter. Get grains and protein and it's like a treat????. I had some treats every day around Christmas so I had way more calories than normal but it hit the spot and one cookie or brownie or treat is a far cry from the pan of goodies I would consume in the past . I call it progress and real life. With exercise or walking the lbs just keep coming off. 60 lbs gone since starting program in June 2014. Praying to hit goal by June but I will continue to be happy with any weight loss as it's all a success. How bout the rest of the November sleevers? -
I'm at full liquids stage and just made myself a smoothie. 2 Tbs creamy peanut butter, 1/4 cup dry milk, 1/2 cup water, 2 icecubes, 1 packet stevia, 1/2 banana amd I put a Tbs of Genepro protein or whatever protein you have. Blend it and it's really good. This recipe was given to me by NUT so it's definitely approved!

Hi everyone! I am six days postop. I was sleeved on January 8. The day of my surgery was horrible. I was sick and nauseous all day long. i'm not sure if it was the anesthesia or the pain medicine or both. But I was dry heaving and crying. It wasn't until late that night they got me the right combination of antinausea medicine and pain medicine. Since then things have been pretty good. I've stopped taking the pain medicines although I do have discomfort and pain at times in my stomach near my incision spots. One odd thing that has happened since the beginning. I get this wave across the top of my stomach that's a mix of nausea/Hunger. It passes in about 5 to 10 seconds but it stops me in my tracks. I'm not sure what that is. it has gotten less frequent as the days go on. The first few days I was nowhere close to where I needed to be with fluid intake. But I've been getting better every day and yesterday I went well beyond what I needed. protein hasn't been that difficult, surprisingly. I am using Genepro unflavored protein powder. If you've seen any of my other posts, you know I don't really like it and it doesn't dissolve well. However for 1 tablespoon you get 30 g of protein. So twice a day I suck it up and make it work with the broth or sugar free hot chocolate. I joined a new gym and walked 30 minutes on the treadmill today. I'm waiting for a call back from my doctors office now to switch to phase 2 which would be full liquids. Phase 2 doesn't seem to be that different than phase 1 except I can have pudding watered down with skim milk or applesauce. Anyone have any suggestions for the phase 2 part of the diet?

Almost time for surgery!
RedSalamander replied to jerseymami1988's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My surgery's tomorrow. I got broths, a selection of ready-made and powered protein, some sugar-free vitamin water, those sugar-free water flavor drops (Mio, Crystal light, etc.), sugar-free jello, sugar-free popsicles, cream soups to strain, and sugar-free pudding. Oh, and Genepro unflavored protein. We'll see how it goes! -
I use it in my morning g decaf tea everyday. I brew decaf tea, dump my scoop of GENEPRO into my giant insulated cup, pour a little tea into it, mix it well with a spoon, then I add the rest of my 32oz of decaf tea, my splenda and 2tbsp of fat free creamer and drink! I kill two birds this way....32oz of my liquid for the day and 31g of protein!! I have been losing every week since my surgery. I feel great and have more energy than ever!! I hope you find something that works for you! !

That's so strange about the Genepro. I tried mixing it in cold & hot stuff & it didn't dissolve. Maybe I need to try room temp? I'll give it another try. It has so much protein it would be great to use it.
-
I also use Genepro regularly. I have not had any trouble mixing it into stuff either. Not sure where you paid $50 bucks for it I believe on Amazon.com I only paid $35ish with my prime two day free shipping. This has helped me so much I would be lost without it!!
-
That's strange. ... I use Genepro and don't have ANY PROBLEMS mixing it into anything. I put in tea, Soups, iced tea (crystal light), pudding, mashed cauliflower- really anything I need to up my protein for the day. That's too bad it dissolves for me with no problems :-( Good luck!

@@Queen you are my inspiration so I know you can do it! I am officially overweight- woo hoo!! It has been a very long time since I have not been obese and it feels great. @@LisaGB I like Unjury chocolate for shakes but use the Genepro to mix with hot chocolate or yogurt for an extra protein boost. @LanieG I know you date will be coming soon, hang in there,

I'm 3 days post op & looking for other ways to get my protein. I have vanilla & chocolate protein powder from my nutritionist which is fine. But looking for something flavorless I can mix w broth or juice. I saw a few people on here mention Genepro. I bought that & it does not dissolve in anything. It separates & sits at the bottom or stay clumpy. Waste of $50. Any other suggestions?
