  1. Hi sorry for the delay in responding. From my research pre op diets just like post definitely differ from surgeon to surgeon. Mine was a 10 day plan. Basically includes 2 protein shakes, 2 servings of non fat Greek yogurt 1/2 cup), 2 servings of berries that I typically add to my yogurt and 2 servings of cream soup (no chunks) 1 cup each. And 64oz of water. Add in 2 servings of glutamine as well the day before is just clear liquids which is the day I travel there it will take me three flights so will be a long day have you picked a doctor and gotten it scheduled?!

    May Surgeries - check in!

Glad to hear it. I was pretty worried about you right after your surgery. I'm doing well. I'm just starting to add some pureed foods and trying to find high protein, non-sweet, non-protein shake options. The challenge is real. Ugh, I tried a soft scrambled egg yesterday and felt a restriction within two bites. I get it about the protein shakes. The ONLY flavor I can tolerate is chocolate and it is getting really old. I'm still drinking at least one protein shake day, but I've been making my own too that I like a lot. I had some frozen huckleberries (though I'll try some banana I think later this week) from last summer so I threw 1/4 cup or so of them in the blender with plain greek yogurt, toasted almond milk, a couple drops of liquid stevia, some plain protein powder and some crushed ice. It isn't terribly sweet and much more palatable than the prepackaged ones and 25 grams of protein. Take care and keep in touch.

Day 2 home from surgery. Doing well I think. Gas pains/spasms can be painful when they come but for the most part I have minimal pain. Im getting all my fluids and protein in. Took all my pills ok today. Im breaking my allowed food down into 2 ounce cups and eating with a baby spoon to avoid accidently eating too much at once. Im on a full liquid diet, yogurt, ricotta cheese, sf pudding, protein soups (clear), sf ice pops, protein shakes. Compared to my pre op diet this is heaven lol

    Favorite Grocery Products

When I get a chocolate craving, I eat tiny mini dark choc chips from Nuts.com. I only eat a very small amount and it gets rid of the craving. I put them on yogurt, in my cereal, mixed with nuts, etc. I usually eat a tiny bit every day and its perfect. The only almonds & walnuts that I eat are whole, raw from Nuts.com also and there are no better tasting walnuts that I have tried so far.

    Where to start

I don't know your stats but 800 calories a day doesn't seem too high to me. Unless you're really tiny and inactive, you should be able to lose on that amount. I mostly eat mini-meals throughout the day. I start eating at about 6 AM when I have coffee before work and I eat every 2-3 hours or so until about 6-7 PM (like maybe 6 AM, 8 AM, 11 AM, 2 PM, 5 PM and 6-7 PM). I'm naturally more hungry in the daytime and not so much at night, so I don't usually need to eat at night. It looks something like this: 1. 6 AM: Morning latte (made with Kitu Super coffee, 10g or Protein and no sugar) 2. 8 AM: 1 scrambled egg 3. 10 AM: Yogurt 4. 12 PM: 1 chicken thigh 5. 2 PM: sugar-free pudding 6. 4 PM: Lunch meat wrap made with Mission Carb Balance tortilla 8. 6-7 PM (Nighttime snack): cheese stick When I was still losing, I restricted carbs but not calories, so if I had a hungry day I might eat a little more or conversely I might have a low appetite day and eat less. I ate around 800 calories a day from 6 months through about 18 months, so I guess that's why it doesn't seem excessive to me. I did not have weekend treats while I was losing (although I did have special-occasion treats, like Christmas and my birthday). The more often you eat on-plan, the faster your weight loss, but you get to decide the balance between losing weight and enjoying life. Just be alert to how things affect you, so you can adjust if there is a problem.

Indeed it seems easier now that I am eating fish, eggs, and overcooked veggies. Chewing a yogurt was not very natural to me !!!!! Thank you

    Pouch!

Hello Amy, I experienced that same sensation. My bypass was on the 7th of May. The first post-op day was smooth, when they brought me my medicine cups and water and a schedule to record my intake/times, I had no problem getting my fluid in. I kept wondering, shouldn't this be more difficult? After I came home, my head hunger and my ease of swallowing continued. On my 5th-7th post of day, my experienced fullness for the first time. I thought I was going to vomit or die, it was so uncomfortable. Now even sips of water, protein shakes, and bites of yogurt fill me up immediately. I have chalked this up to a couple of things: 1. Anesthesia and the lingering after effects allowed me not to feel the restricted stomach size, and 2. Now that I am off my pain medication and anesthesia including and pain blocking they may have performed during surgery is out of my system. My honeymoon period with my new pouch is over and I treat (her) very kind. I have eliminated anything but my protein shakes (2 oz feels like a Thanksgiving dinner) water, and yogurt. I am learning more about my body tha I ever have. I cannot drink milk or dairy products without much regret. Sugar-free anything is also an absolute no-no for me right now. I move onto pureed food later this week and I can't wait to see what other fun and interesting things my pouch has in store. One trick I have always used in dealing with any unpleasant experience is to maintain a curious mindset. My new digestive 'engine' went from diseil to electric so I am learning an entirely new owner's manual. Lean and clean fuel. Sent from my SM-G998U using BariatricPal mobile app

    May Surgeries - check in!

My first 2 days were clear liquids. Then protein shakes and Greek yogurt until this week (I had surgery May 3rd). Now I am on mushy foods. Cottage cheese, tuna, fat free refried beans, puréed ground turkey & chicken, soft scrambled egg. I’m nervous about trying actual food this week, but excited to have something besides protein shakes. I’ve also noticed food options seem to vary a ton depending on people’s surgeons. It’s interesting.

    Postop puréed diet ideas?

Yogurt (plain or sugar-free, low or nonfat, blended without fruit chunks) Strained cream soups (celery, potato, mushroom, or chicken made with skim milk)
  10. Hi all I’m about 6 weeks post op and to be brutally honest I haven’t been eating the best. I’m eating healthy things but so much of it I feel like I’m sabotaging this sleeve. I can’t stop snacking on protein bars and yogurt with granola. I drink and literally countdown the 30 minutes after I drink to snack. It’s definitely mental and don’t know how to stop. I’m also now having some blood sugar issues. I was on metformin for about 2 weeks post op was doing well, blood sugars ranging from 87-110. Now at 6 weeks my blood sugars have been creeping up. Now it’s at 185! I hope I’m not the only one who went or is going through this. Could really use some advice. Thanks Mark

Yes, I burp a lot when I drink the protein shakes. On day11 after surgery I started taking one ounce of greek yogurt a few times a day; seems to really help with that.

    Protein taste issues

I was able to drink Protein2o Protein Water just fine before the surgery, but after surgery it is too sweet. I have to mix it half and half with water. I don’t have a problem with the taste of the Premier Protein shakes but I am bored with them. I bought a flavorless protein powder that gives me 30 grams of protein with each scoop. Isopure from GNC. It mixes with anything water, juice, gatorade zero, I also mix it in my Oikos Zero yogurts. It does better mixed with cold liquids. Don’t mix with hot soup or coffee. It kind of solidifies instead of dissolves.

    Struggling too

One of the best pieces of advice I've been given is "Before you eat something bad, eat something good". What that meant was, don't force yourself to choose between starvation and eating junk. If you're hungry, eat - but eat something protein rich and nutrient dense. Allow yourself to eat when hungry, just eat on-plan rather than choosing candy or chips. So a eat a cup of light yogurt rather than ice cream. Eat a serving of string cheese rather than chips. Eat a protein bar (with good nutritional composition) if you're in a situation where you can't take the time to eat something more substantial. A boiled egg with salt and pepper is a filling snack. Sugar-free pudding can quiet a sweet-tooth. You have to plan ahead to make sure you have something on-plan to eat. Because if you're like me, if you wait until you're starving, you'll eat whatever is close at hand. Don't beat yourself up, there's a learning curve to this. It will take some time to incorporate your new eating habits into your daily life. Persistence is more important than perfection.

    May Surgeries - check in!

I had surgery 5/10, I’m glad I’m past the 3 days post op. There was no way I could get the recommended amount of water or protein down. Pain was steady but manageable, I slept a lot. Evening of day 2 the gas was releasing but was never painful. On day 3 I was able to drink a lot more but the protein water doesn’t taste good. Start of day four and I’m back to protein shakes and yogurt which is the first real subsidence I’ve had in 5 days. Incisions are healing well also. I’m looking forward to my post op checkup on 5/18 then get to the puréed diet. Good luck all. JMK.

    GOING BACK TO OLD HABITS

My wife and I also had surgery at the end of last year. What we tend to do is not keep things in the house that would take us off plan too far. Even with cookies or chips, we tend to go more for the protein chips or keto cookies (Highkey cookies are really good) to try to have a slightly healthier option. We also tend to purchase low/no sugar chocolate and only eat a small amount when we do. I also tend to have healthier dessert yogurt "Dannon light and fit" and low sugar protein bars such as fitcrunch bars that are delicious but fairly close to plan. By doing this I am still able to have a treat but not over indulge. The closer to plan I can keep my treats, the better the long term results I feel will happen.

    Snack

I think berries like raspberries, blueberries, strawberries, and blackberries might work, because they are relatively low in carbs and high in fiber. You can get them frozen and add them to a protein shake or "light" or plain greek yogurt too. I would also try to eat three times a day and not just twice so you are not going too long without a meal. They also make high-protein chips but I've never tried them. But first I would make sure you are eating a full three meals. Good luck!

    Snack

Cheese, nuts, deli meat, greek yogurt with or without chia seeds, cucumbers or red bell peppers with tzatziki or just plain, celery with peanut butter or cream cheese and everything but the bagel seasoning, apples and peanut butter... if you tell us what foods you DO like maybe we can give you better suggestions?

    Loose skin

My doctor (well actually the nurse practitioner) said to use cocoa butter every day before and after surgery. The real stuff that you get in a bar. I also put collagen peptides in my yogurt smoothies. The dr says there is no evidence to suggest it works or that it doesn’t so I figure it can’t hurt to try.

    Any April 2021 surgeries?!

Have you ever tried mixing a bit of PB Fit in with vanilla Greek yogurt and dipping apples in it. Something else to look forward to trying if you like the apples with peanut butter taste.

    Snack

If you like ranch dressing you can make ranch dip for veggies with the dry dressing seasoning mix and plain Greek yogurt. Also I mixed PB Fit into vanilla Greek yogurt and dipped apple slices Into it.

    Any April 2021 surgeries?!

I can only get down about 1.5 ounces if it’s chicken or Turkey. Something like cottage cheese or yogurt I’m closer to the 2.5 ounce mark.

    protein snacks

I like nuts, cheese (cheese sticks are great and portable!), "light" or plain greek yogurt with some chia seeds and fruit (I put splenda in the plain greek yogurt because it's a bit tart for me), deli meat, meat sticks. Most of the protein bars have too many calories for me right now, but I will drink a protein shake. You could also try bone broth (haven't tried that yet, but I bought some for after my surgery). I also add unflavored protein powder to soups or oatmeal.

    April surgeries

I had the same issue. My nutritionist suggested I chew each bite at least 20 times and put my fork/spoon down between bites...which was hard when I was just eating yogurt, but now that I am on soft vegs/fish, I am trying to do this. It has helped. Good Luck!

    April surgeries

I had my surgery on April 28th and I am down 23 pounds (32 if I count the preop diet). My biggest issue is eating slowly - I can't seem to be able to do that, unless it is a yogurt in front of my computer while I am working. Any ideas to slow things down when I have meals with my family ?
