Hello all. my name is morgan (obviously). I'm 29 years old. Diabetic, PCOS, high blood pressure.. Everything fun of course. I have Kaiser and did the 12weeks Options class over the summer and ended at the end of September. Last Tuesday, October 28th I had my consult appt with my surgeon, and he surprisingly had a cancellation and was able to fit me in on November 4th. Talk about nerveracking . soo quick. I started at 256 at the beginning of my options classes, did Protein shakes for a week to drop weight and ended up being 242 by the end of the classes. I made my appt for last Tuesday on the previous Friday and wanted to make sure I was still 242 a because if he saw in gained weight, I'm sure he wouldn't have been okay with soing the surgery. I ends up being exactly 242 on my consult say, and then 239/240 on my surgery day. I went into the hospital at 8:30, surgery WS at 10:40am and I was in recovery by 12. I was so out of it I slept most of the day/night. I stopped taking any morphine because it made me so drowsy by 5. I barely used any which everyone was impressed with. I toughened it out for sure. I woke up at 4 this morning and decided to walk around like they want you to do. Did a few laps around the floor then rested a bit until my mom got there. Did some more laps. My doctor came and checked on me at around 830/9 and said I looked fantastic but he didn't want to send me home with my blood sugars so high. They were @ 188 when I came in, 330 (the highest it has ever been) at 10pm on Tuesday night then 303 at 130 am on Wednesday, after they pumped me full of insulin to lower. The surgeon then decided the only way I'd be able to leave was to get my sugars down, they then changed my IV to saline (the one had glucose in it), by noon it was 165 and by 1 the Dr came in and was pleased and had me discharged. All in all, my blood sugar gone down as well as my blood pressure, its in the normal zone. It boggles my mind. Ice tried so hard using diet exercise and medication and still no real change. I'm so happy I went through with this. I never realized how much I use my stomach muscles though. I'm in a bit of pain. Getting in and out of bed is no pleasant time, same with coughing (due to the tube down my throat) or even laughing. Tmi. But i have been super gassy since the surgery and am wondering if thats where most of my pain and discomfort is coming from. But I'm happy though I was only at the hospital for a little over 24 hrs, esp when I thought I'd at least be sleeping there for another day at least. My mom had lapband then removed it, waited a year and got the sleeve. She told me not to be surprised about gaining weight while in the hospital due to all the liquids and what not. Luckily, as soon as I got home, I peed and then weighed myself. Super surprised that I still weigh 239. So here is to my new journey, of hopefully no longer being diabetic, having hypertension, no longer having PCOS, hopefully being able to have children! And living a much longer and fulfilling life. Good luck to everyone that is starting this journey and people that continue on. Morgan

Feeling like a failure
amgarza54 replied to txgirl82's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
TMI....but I just threw up as much as I could. That scared me that it may cause complications in my surgery. I hope everything goes ok -
@@ltaehschneider good luck going back to work. I never thought I would share this but today is 5 days post op and I pooped! (this feels like TMI)
-
We're talking about surgery, poop, getting our stomachs cut out... come on is this really a TMI area.
-
My Dr. Also said as soon as I feel up to it. (He didn't mention my husband may be up to it.. before I was even considering it...) I am 2 weeks out... and the last few days my husband and I have had sex twice. Heading into TMI area... but being honest... first time... I was a little nervous, afraid he might hurt me with too much weight on my abdomen, so I held his body up with my hands a little... Second time, I was on top, so no pain or pressure on my stomach. Just a thought ladies and gents... kinda private and embarrassing,.. but a real question deserves a real answer. We didn't go through all this so our spouses and significant others wouldn't want us... this is a good thing. Its nice to be loved, just be careful.

I think the biggest issue is me being so picky. I tried tuna, but I really don't like tuna and threw it out. I've never been a fan of seafood with the exception of crab legs and shrimp and I'm not sure if those are allowed yet because of the texture. I only recently started eating salmon, and it's ok in small amounts but after 4 days straight, my taste buds were done with salmon. I started out trying to use protein shakes against his wishes (I'm a bit of a rebel lol), but they don't sit well with me and made me feel like throwing up, so I stopped using them. They seemed to be too foamy or something. I'd let them settle for a few minutes before drinking them but that didn't help either. I'll try picking up some string cheese. I was eating sliced cheese and cheese curds (I swear that it reformed into a giant cheese curd in my intestines and I felt it working it's way all the way thru... TMI). Maybe string cheese will go down smoother. I'm making my kids some chicken legs tonight for dinner and will pull the meat off of some for myself. It won't be pureed, but I'll chew chew chew amd then chew chew chew some more lol. I guess I kinda looked at my meal options like this... I can have some malt-o-meal and get maybe 2g of protein or a yogurt and get 12g = yogurt won. Same with cottage cheese for 7g or a yogurt for 12g. I'm going to buy more eggs today and whip up a batch of deviled eggs. I'll make enough for the kids and then save some on my "Mom's only" shelf in the fridge (my kids would clean me out if I didn't have one lol). I'll attach my meal plans and options they gave me. -
Your body will do what it needs to do when it needs to do. So unless you are having bloody stools or having a lot of pain with it, I would have to assume it's ok to poop. Keep us posted. P.S. If you have questions or concerns, nothing is TMI on here. LOL

@@Bronxmerci do you feel pressure on your chest when you drink. And TMI I've had my period for 10 days now.
-
@ Bronxmerci I understand the blood cloth got to your liver. Not much you could do about that. Raw deal and it just plain sucks, there is no way to sugar coat it. But you can make it through this. One step at a time. Gladiators are fighters and so are you. Are you able to go to bathroom? If you can, I have a suggestion for a TMI bath of sorts. I asked for a couple towels and wash cloth. They also gave me a little bar of soap. I used the wash cloth with some soap for face, neck, pits and what I could reach. Then using one of the big towels which I wet with warm Water and a touch of soap and go it as twisted as I could to wring out the water. Very carefully I placed a leg on top of the toilet using the door handle for support. I then, after a few attempts was able to swing the towel between legs and catch it with the other hand. Then did a dental floss sort of clean working my towel. I felt human again because I too couldn't shower and felt gross. I used the last towel to dry up. I decided to make this post public because I thought others may benefit from it. It is hard to keep clean as our tummy has 6 holes and is sore and we can't bend our waist as before. This is the reality nobody talks about but it can make such a difference in our outlook if at least we can feel clean.

Dr. Korn is very thorough and very professional.. he is much sought after which is why he is so busy but in my opinion he's more than worth the wait.. He wants you to be successful which is why he requires folks to weigh in 3 months in a row in his office without a gain... I lost 55 lbs prior to surgery by riding my bike and portion control as well as a low fat, low calorie, low carb., low sodium diet and his PA had me sign up for myfitnesspal.com ... a free website that tracks food intake as well as exercise and calculates for you where you will be in 5 weeks if every day were like today, a great incentive tool.. and as Dr. Korn will tell you, the stronger you are before surgery the quicker and easier the recovery... I've never had any pain from this surgery other than constipation due to the anethesia and Protein shakes following the surgery and for people like me who are proned to this problem I highly recommend a stool softener.. I know TMI but you need to know what works and this is what works for me... Dr. Korn had me up walking the day of surgery and the day after surgery I did a total of 25 laps around the floor throughout the day.... Dr. Korn is also the head of the dept. of barriatric surgery in the area as well as a trauma surgeon.. I hope you do well on "your" weight loss journey and God Bless. Jon Oliphant.. Caldwell, Idaho

...or there was the time a skinny-minny completely clueless new OB-GYN I was sent to for a biopsy kept shaking her head about 'how she didn't know if she could do the biopsy since when you're big on the outside, you're big on the inside too...' -- saying this while her gloved hand is inside me feeling for my ovaries - obviously already a pretty vulnerable position, both physically and emotionally -- then she started going on about how she might have to call in "a special team" to help her "because I was so big" -- but I just bore-down, gritted my teeth and did what I could physically to help her get what she needed (sorry if TMI...) -- then after getting my biopsy results (thank God was fine...), I NEVER went back to her -- she gave me some serious PTSD about OB-GYN visits, that's for sure... sooooo glad we're all on our way to a better life in so many ways ---

I agree, I spent 2 nights in the hospital then went to a family member's house for one night. After that I went back to my house and was on my own. If I had to do it all over again, I would of stayed with family for another day or so. I had some obstruction issues ( I know, TMI!) that lasted a few days and were awful. I will say, I had my surgery on a Tuesday and went back to work the following Monday in a limited capacity. Best of luck!

October 2014 sleevers check in please!
Tired_of_being_Tired replied to Jen - a work in progress's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi kathy812! You know I didn't even think about that. That's a good idea. Thank goodness I get the A-OK on Saturday, so I can try something at home. For some weird reason I have been craving a Portobello mushroom pizza. I am not even a big fan of pizza - have to be in the mood. I will wait to make these of course, but that's what I really want. Oh, and refried Beans, but all I keep thinking is "oh boy" extra gas!! When I came home from surgery, at night I sounded like a Saving Private Ryan sequel. Probably TMI, but I just couldn't help it. I think my sleeve is settling down some, so I am a little nervous of giving it more Amo - haha pun intended! How is your sleeve doing? -
October 2014 sleevers check in please!
Tired_of_being_Tired replied to Jen - a work in progress's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hello October Sleevers! Had my WLS on Oct 9th. All in all I have to say my surgery went pretty well. I still experience some pain on my left side, under the incision where my tummy was pulled out. I am still on the Phase II full liquid diet, and so far had not had any trouble keeping any down. However, today I thought, well...since I am sooo close to Saturday and that's when I will be switched over to soft foods I wanted to try a little bit of egg salad. Wrong decision, I experienced the "dumping syndrome" I was at work, so needless to say, I was praying the good Lord would not make it a "noisy" trip to the ladies room - he heard my prayers! sorry if that was TMI. I didn't experience the chills, nausea, or accelerated heartbeat affects, but oh boy did I have some cramping fairly quickly after I ate my 3 spoons of egg salad. So...lesson learned and patient I will remain until Saturday. I'm sure you can guess what I am not going to try to eat on Saturday I am sooo looking forward to getting out of the full liquid diet, since I have been on liquids since one week pre op. I am looking forward to making friends on here and so excited to be able to talk to others who understand what I am going through. Oh one good thing is I have no problem drinking Water, but I do have problems remembering to drink it. I know for sure I am not getting my Protein in. I tried Isopure and OMG I nearly threw it up - scratched that from my list! I am taking the unjury chicken Soup and do have the Unjury unflavored Protein that I add to my Soups when I remember. My saving grace soup has been the Marketplace Tuscan Tomato Basil - sold at Vons. It is so creamy and taste like Pasta except without the pasta. I can only have about 1/4 cup before I get full, but it's been great! -
Thanks everyone my RN called to check on me today. Sounds like something a simple enema (TMI!) will take care of. Thank goodness. The pain should be gone in a few days.

SEPTEMBER 2014 POST-OP SLEEVERS CHECKING IN!
LaLoLaughs replied to Rovobay's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
So I posted this new topic but thought it might help some of my fellow Sept Sleevers: Sorry for the TMI, but I thought it would be useful as I have seen this be a popular topic of discussion for the newbies. I am currently 4 weeks out of surgery (SD 9/30/14) and while constipation pain and strains have not been a major issue for me so far, I have found myself not having BM as often as I used to pre-op and it has been bothersome. Anyway, after attending a support group meeting, where my doctor and a veteren speaker were present, the speaker indicated that Fiber Gummies are a staple in her diet, even 2-3 years post-op. I immediately went to Target and bought a generic brand. It has been a week and I can now say that my BMs are now more consistent, more often, no straining AND I see the difference in the scale as well. I take 3 gummies a day and get in about 12 grams of fiber in a day, which is much more than I have on my clear liquid, full liquid and pureed diets. Just thought it might help others struggling with this. -

Hey everyone, it's a "does anyone else have this" post: I've noticed just over the last hour or so that I am getting a moderate pain in my left abdomen, about midway between my belly button and my side. (This side has been more sore because that's where they pulled my stomach out.) I get just a little jolt of pain and then it goes away. Of course (TMI) I haven't had a bowel movement of any kind in the last couple days so I'm thinking it may be that??? Thanks! -
TMI - bowel prep questions...
Quest4TheNewMe posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just had my pre-op appt today and we were talking about the bowel prep. My surgery is on 11/13, so I'm supposed to drink the bowel prep stuff the morning of the 11th. It sounds like I should probably try to make arrangements to work from home on the 11th, but what about the 12th? I have no idea what to expect in regards to this, as I've never done a bowel prep before... -
@@Sydney Little Merle the I have also been struggling to get all my protein in and have been down right HUNGRY! I was sleeved on the 23rd. It has been a rough road. I gave thought many times about testing my sleeve and trying to eat food. I haven't though and once I started passing gas (TO I I KNOW) and bowels moving. (Again TMI) I started feeling better, also moving more helps. But am still hungry! I am still very swollen as well. I actually weigh more now than the day of surgery. Only 5 lbs more, but still more. Hopefully this part will be over soon and we can move forward to happier, less hungry place. We can do this!!

Anyones spouse having a hard time?
kenb79 replied to kenb79's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thank you to everyone for there responses. She has been supportive. Like Jersrose43 mentioned, she is just frustrated. I like the suggestions of soups and in a couple weeks, once I can actually have soup without straining it, our choices will be better. Regarding drinking, I was the DD before and will be now too. Even one drink always gave me the biggest headache. Last night she came home from work and we went and saw the equalizer. Kiss ass movie BTW. Great night up to the point where i had to tell her no to sex (sorry, tmi) yesterday was not a good day regarding Water consumption and Protein intake and I felt like shit for it. V/r, Ken
