  1. My stuff is all submitted and now waiting for insurance approval from BCBS Fed. Any ideas on timeline with this insurance? I’ve heard 2 days to 30 days...

    PPIs mandatory?

My doc does them for a month for everyone. I stayed on an extra month so two total bc acid gave me a gnawing hungry type of feeling. Stopped easily at that point and have never had any issues since

    Kids and food

I don’t have kids myself so I cannot speak to that perspective so much. However I do have nieces and nephews. My brother and his wife have taken the healthy food thing too far. My 12 year old niece should not necessarily know “oh that has a lot of calories in it” yes I would want them making healthy choices but I would not want my niece to have an unhealthy body image problem going into her teen years. They have made it uncomfortable to be around them at family holidays bc of how much they discuss healthy food and this and that. There should be a point when you just enjoy if it’s a family function or holiday and not make others feel so uncomfortable. Moderation and controlling your potion sizes is always a good idea to keep in mind.

    Better Choices

See to each his own I can’t stand the Protein pasta.... BUT I love the banza chickpea Pasta and the Explore Asian edamame pasta (at Costco). But I never liked Premier Protein either. Love the whips Greek yogurt too though that’s a big winner!  And the Flapjacked  Mighty Muffins, but I didn’t add those in till I was at goal bc the carb count is way high. Kirkland the Costco brand makes a protein bar that’s even better than the quest bars!
  6. Well I've had to change the dates again, but waiting on Drs office to tell me if its a go or not. I have to have dates around hubby being off, this will be my 5th one this year. Im fat n tired of running around after everyone but myself and its quickly catching up with me now illness wise. Im so close to just saying screw it, Im that fed up with it all.
  7. Well I found out I was pregnant a few weeks ago so whatever I do will be in a years time. Already struggling with the band being pregnant though 😢 despite it only having 0.5ml in it. I’m so fed up and it’s stressing me out of how I will be when heavily pregnant and if it is going to cause extreme restrictions. I felt like I rearched everything so well before I had the band fitted but it’s only when you have it you truly understand what it’s like. What is an RNY? I am thinking of just paying for a removal once I have given birth. Such a large waste of money. Sorry for all the negativity, had a sleepless night with something being stuck (still is) x

    Telling the Family

I completely understand your thoughts and anxiety over this. My fiancé was the only one who knew everything I was going through step by step. I stressed a lot over telling my family , mostly my parents bc my cousin had WLS (she hid it from extended fam and we “accidentally “ found out even though we all already knew she had it done) and there was some negative feedback from my family about her having it. I wound up telling my parents and siblings and have had nothing but support from them. Talk about taking weight off your shoulders ! I am glad I told the, bc it was causing me stress to hide it. Now, I’m about to start my pre op diet and need all the support I can get! Whatever you decide, I hope it works well for you.

    Experiences with Phentermine?

I took phentermine right before I scheduled my surgery (surgery 7/23/18). I took it for 14 weeks and lost 15lbs.my doctor stated the FDA does not recommend more than 12w without a break, so I stopped and immediately gained weight back. It was a great appetite suppressant, only side effect was dry mouth but it wasn’t so bad bc it made me drink more water!

    New here and very nervous...

Hi Ohio Sparkle, I am also a Buckeye, live 15 miles from Ohio' s Center which is Centerburg. FYI,My Mama graduated from there in 1935. I meet with my surgeon Dr Needlman next Tuesday 7/17/2018 for my presurgical appointment, I am hoping yet that day I am assigned a surgery date. I will be having a RnY bypass at Ohio State University-Wexner Medical Center in Columbus. I stand 5ft8in, weigh 321 down, from a high of 356 last October. I have strawberry blonde (redgold) hair fair skin, walk with a cane because I have 2 replacement, knees, wear glasses mostly because of Old Age, also I have had a cataract removed from my riight eye plus I have been near sighted since childhood. And last but not least i,am 72 years old. Betcha, I. can beat, your obesity story. I was born at he end of the Second World, only child 0f my parents. After every nursing,i was to be fed a 8 oz bottle of Carnation Milk formula. At I year,i was 36 inches, tall and 35 lbs. That is roughly the size the size of 2 1/2 year olds. So I have been big my entire life.
  11. I honestly think the thing that tickles and offends me the most about this topic is the title from a medical professional: "Help!!! Need advice on telling people they are fat..." When I first read this my knee-jerk response to this was, "Well, my honest opinion is that none of us need to be told this--Newsflash! We already have very personal knowledge and awareness of our fatness." Like, what a strange way to broach a subject to a room full of people in various stages of trying to change their personal reality. But @nibble and @Orchids&Dragons I know this avoidance so well. I also ducked my well-woman's exam for years--only going to my GP when I had severe infections. I almost died from BC because of the shame of my own personal knowledge of being fat and my embarrassment to have a gyno exam while super morbidly obese.

I have become a bad influence

I've been married for almost 20 years, I work at a hospital... nothing offends or shocks me. Seriously, nothing. I'm dealing with some sympathy bloating myself because my wife is cycling... Crazy sympathy bs... Fat Prom???
  13. Let me just mention: please do not send in another physician to give this talk if you are too busy...she asked first and I said ok so it is partly my fault but I didn’t really know we were going into the weight , this guy came in, got my name wrong, and once I corrected him proceeded to give me the speech on being obese. Then she popped in and they both lectured me with her even telling me I should eat like a rabbit, carrots and veggies... they did not ask what my diet or exercise was and only assumed I came home and ate cakes all day or something. I never went back to them and did not get a new doctor for years. I admit I was sensitive as well but I have a new doctor now and while she doesn’t bs me she isn’t condescending. I have high cholesterol so when she wanted me to get on medication and I wanted to try to lose weight on my own first she encouraged me but also explained the risk And I appreciated that
  14. Actually yes. Talking to one did for me. I had never really considered bypass though I knew about it from acquaintances.  I didn’t know the sleeve existed.  A nurse brought it up to me.  I am forever in her debt!  So as with everything different things work for different people. So I hope people in the medical profession do take the initiative bc you don’t know who it will work for. Honestly I would happily piss off a dozen people to help one. But that’s me.
  15. Hi All: I was wondering regarding BC/BS of Mass gastric bypass approvals. I received the pre-auth form. I have a BMI of greater than 50 with 2 co-mobidities sleep apnea and diabetes. I've met all of the other testing and nutrition criteria except for the psychologist visit. Is 6 mos pre-dieting is required for approval? Is pre-surgery weight loss required for approval? I was wondering if anyone was denied for gaining weight prior to the surgery.
  16. I’ve been a single mom ( sole custody no other parent) since I was 4 months pregnant. My son now 19 months has an auto-immune illness. I work 10 hour days and am in my Masters program. So finding time to workout eat right and all of my doctors appointments on top of my sons weekly ones has been challenging to say the very least but hopefully worth it. I don’t have my exact surgery date yet but December is the target. I want to go to cedar point again, buy a bathing suit (which I haven’t done in almost a decade). Wear shorts instead of pants when it’s 100 degrees out bc I don’t like the way I look. Sit comfortably on a plane. But most important of all be around to watch my son grow up.

Fever, pain & vomiting . IM OVER it

Update 💓 i have now “graduated “ to shakes again although they’ve been causing me great pain and trouble keeping them down. I am also still being fed nutrients via IV for the next two or so days . The positive of all of this is that my pancreas levels are improving. I will update soon. Thank you all ❤️
  18. That a bunch of bs mine was $19,000 here in Dallas Tx
  19. Started noticing some loosening around the 1 month mark. 2 months it was quite noticeable. Now at 3 moving towards 4, I'm seeing more and more. Like recently my ass has started to sag, like a lot! My arms and legs got thin right away, I've got some "Bingo wings" going on, but I'm working on my Biceps and Triceps to fill that area in, working well. My stomach is a flap of wrinkly bs, but it's cool, I don't care at all, I mean, I'm down 123 lbs total at this point... there's going to be saggy wrinkly skin all over. I'm kinda proud of it. To a point.
  20. Hi. I’ve used the patches. I haven’t been doing a great job of making sure I’m putting them on. They are super convenient and, yes, there was one additional item I needed - I believe it was iron. Do you have a listing of which vitamins we need and how many milligrams? I have mine and can get it if you’d like me to. I get the gastric sleeve plus bc it includes calcium. There is some debate about whether or not vitamins can be absorbed through the skin on a patch. My vitamin levels have been good except my Vit D (again, missed using my patches for awhile). I cook with cast iron so I haven’t needed the iron supplement bc my iron levels are good. Cast iron cooking can boost iron level in the body according to what I’ve read. About cost - I’m not really sure which is more economical. When I first compared in November 2017, I thought it was comparable to getting a bottle of this and a bottle of that...I like getting a break from taking so many pills bc I take several prescriptions. About the calcium, D3 is necessary. If it’s found you don’t have enough, you may need to supplement to get enough if the patch doesn’t include enough D3. I love BariatricPal, at the same time, I want to let you know that MDPATCH sells them directly from their store. They offer a percentage back if you click on their store from eBates (do you know what that is) and they often have sales, sometimes up to 25% off. I hope this helps.🌻🐈😀
  21. I was sleaved 11 days ago, and I've been having diarrhea (about 4 wattery BMs a day). My surigical team keeps everyone on clear liquids for two weeks after surgery. I called them over this weekend because I was so frustrated, and I was told to take a little benefiber with my liquids. That's doing nothing. Anyone else experience this after surgery? Sorry about the rant, but I'm just tired, annoyed, and feeling lots of other emotions.
  22. My doctor said no alcohol for 18 MONTHS! I never planned on following this bc I’ve researched and he’s the only one who has that long of a wait time. I do plan on waiting a few months tho. Since the sugar is part of the problem, I plan on drinking vodka and water and bring a sugar-free koolaid squeeze thing with me. It’s the lowest sugar drink you could have. Someone said vodka and soda but I thought carbonation was super bad for us...isn’t it?

GALS who started their journey over 300 lb+<br /> +

Sabrena I have been eating low carb. I’ve basically been doing a ketogenic diet. Low carb moderate protein high fat. I’ve averaged about 11.5 lbs per month and have slowed down recently bc I’ve been having too many carbs. I want to get back into ketosis before surgery so that I’m burning fat during my liquids and post op weeks even when I’m not eating much. I’m hoping it will help me have more energy and lose faster also. Ketosis is basically when your body is starved of carbs so it switches to use fat for fuel instead.
  24. I know this is a loaded subject, but here goes: I am a nurse and the physicians I work with often recommend weight loss to thier patients. Some approach this conversation better than others. As a nurse I understand that losing weight makes patients healthier and the obesity epidemic can not be ignored . . . . BUT as a patient I hated being told to lose weight, in fact I kinda wanted to lash out at the skinny wench. Duh, if it was so easy I wouldn't be fat bc it is SUPER fun not being able to: find clothes that fit, reach my toes, breath while I put on shoes, or fit in a small chair. So here are my questions for you all: How should a doctor tell you to lose weight? Or should they just not say anything? Who can you help by ignoring it? Would it be better if nutrition classes or a healthy lifestyle program was offered at the same time? Should the conversation only happen with another big person? Would you feel less judged that way? Or does it seem silly for a fat person to tell another fat person to lose weight? Empathy or irony? Would it be better or worse if bariatric surgery was mentioned? Would it help if I flashed my scars? Tell me about times when a medical professional told you to lose weight. How did it feel? What would have made it better? I can change how this is done where I work, but need input. You can PM me if you want, too. Second guessing this post, might belong in the rant and rave section.

BMI just over 30 and esg

I also have BMI of 30 and decided to get the sleeve. Surgery is scheduled for 7/11. I’m 36 and my BP (problem since I was 19 and weighed 155) has gotten so high I’m now taking two medications to treat it. I don’t like the idea of the balloon or band bc they have to be removed/refilled and my health insurance wouldn’t cover any WLS, so I have to self pay.
