    Unflavored protein powder

    I second Genepro
  2. Great News! Take it slowly. Ramp up to the Protein and Fluid goals. If you need help with getting protein into things like applesauce, Soup or yogurt try GENEPRO unflavored Protein powder. 1 tablespoon has 30g protein and 98 cals. I still use Premium protein (Choc and vanilla) premade drinks from costco. 30g 160 cals. Couldn't have kept my protein high without these 2 products. Best Wishes!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Not a fan of the shakes

I gave up shakes early on. Surgery was November 9th. I now get all my Protein from food. I couldn't tolerate the shakes anymore. I keep trying but instantly they make me nauseous, I get chills like I'm going to throw up and diarrhea. I can tolerate GENEPRO protein if I add it to something but most days I don't need it. Failure, forgiveness & getting real

I have used GENEPRO. I don't find it completely tasteless, but more importantly it changes the texture of things I put it in and makes it unpalatable for me. The best I did with it was to mix it up with a small amount of Water and add it to chicken broth. That went down quite well. However, my daughter has started drinking fruit smoothies in the mornings, and throws the genepro in and she says she can't tell it's there. I'm trying different things to put it in hoping to find something that goes down easily. I got samples of a bunch of different Protein shakes, and even though I liked one really well pre-op, I didn't tolerate it post-op and had to switch to Premier Protein for my morning "get the protein started" Breakfast.
  6. I want to push back a little. Why do you need to drink protein instead of eating, say, chicken, fish, lean beef, etc.? I personally don't use Genepro because I don't trust its claims (gram is a unit of weight -- you can't get 30 grams of protein out of 15 grams of substance). But if I did use it, I'd probably check out prices here at the BariatricPal store, Amazon, and EBay and figure out who has the best price and shipping deal combined. Good luck!

    Protein shakes

Try GenePro. You can get it on Amazon. It is unflavored, you can mix it with anything. Even HOT. you only use a Tbsp to get 30g protein so it doesn't make your drinks thick or change the texture of your food. I have put it in mashed potatoes, cr of wheat, cottage cheese, yogurt, etc. My favorite is: 10-12 ounces of unsweetened vanilla almond milk 1Tbsp GenePro 1tsp instant coffee 2tsp unsweetened baking cocoa 2 pkgs Stevia I can't stand those thick drinks, yuck. But this is yummy, I have one everyday.

    Fruit....

The whole 20 grams of protein over an hour is highly debatable both my surgeon and my nutritionist (they are not connected at all) do not agree that is true at all. As for depleting my body of sugar, a lot of people start this journey diabetic. Although I was not diabetic I took the highest allowable dose of metformin and it still wasn't controlling my PCOS and insulin resistance. Fruit is one of the last things you need to add into your diet especially because it is so high in carbs. If you're going to add in something extra with the protein veggies are a better option and this is for any diet not just us. The logic about the sugar makes sense to me and the surgeons office has seen proven weight loss by doing it this way. Just because you don't agree doesn't mean your way is the right way. As for the genepro my nutritionist okayed it. There are countless people using the product, getting routine blood work from their surgeons and having no issues with their protein levels so im going to continue to use it. If you can choke down the nasty chemical laden Protein drinks more power to you but I can't. Id rather be putting a small amount of something in my body than a large amount of man made who knows what (remember Protein Powder is not regulated whatsoever). You do what you think is best for your body and im going to do what I think is best. Every surgeon is different in their thoughts and as we all know there is no set guide for weight loss surgery. I did not gain weight from eating poorly in the past i gained weight from a medical condition. I hate that we are asked to put all this processed stuff into our diet after this surgery to help hit protein goals.

    Fruit....

Just be aware that our bodies can only absorb about 20g protein/hour. Anything more than that is simply turned to glucose. So by taking in that much Protein in a short period of time, you are defeating the whole "no fruit" concept. (Which I disagree with, anyways.... Depleting your body of nutrients just to accelerate weight loss doesn't seem responsible or healthy). If you are burning more calories than you are taking in, your body will burn fat for fuel whether you are eating fruit or not. My protein smoothies are usually 30-40g protein, but I drink them over at least 2 hours in order to get the benefit of all the protein. And the GENEPRO throws a whole other wrench into knowing just how much protein you are really getting. I can find no published studies that actually confirm the absorption and utilization of this chemically modified molecule. Since your nut approves it, I would love to see any clinical trial results they may have read that actually supports the manufacturer's claims.

    Fruit....

With your other health concerns, I certainly understand your nut's suggestion to limit fruit. But as for chemical laden Protein supplements, whey and milk protein concentrates certainly are not. Whey is simply the liquid part of milk that floats to the top when making cheese. Then it's dehydrated and becomes whey protein powder. No chemicals involved. The solid part is curd, which contains mostly casein protein. As for man made, GENEPRO definitely is. They take 100% whey protein, pass it through a gel electrophoresis process in order to strip the hydrogen atoms from it. Then they filter it some more and add on another molecule to stabilize it. As far as I'm concerned, this is no longer protein. It's like removing hydrogen molecules from Water....now it becomes oxygen, and the two are not interchangeable. Until I see actual clinic studies involving not only pre and post serum levels, but also urine and fecal protein levels, I am not convinced that this molecule is something the body's cells recognizes and utilizes as protein. So far the only "research" on genepro is coming directly from the manufacturer. No 3rd party support or verification whatsoever. I'm not saying it's bad, I'm just saying there isn't enough scientific evidence to convince me it's good. I'll stick with real protein for now.

What if GENEPRO Protein and Coffee had a baby?

How well I know about this!! I have used and continue to use GENEPRO, but I got told and they tried to put me in my place about it not being possible. When I stated that BARIATRICPAL sold it they said it is a money maker!! Any how I am going to try this I love my coffee which I add to my espresso every day. So for me it is a win win!!

Thank you!!! I have Genepro on my approved list as well so I'll try that one first. With so many different choices it's just hard to know where to even start, so a good review is always useful!

    Limited menu, help

Can you have strained soups? Split pea soup with a scoop of genepro protein powder has been great for me as well as the ricotta cheese bake recipe that everyone talks about. Lap band 10/2007 revised to RNY 12/22/2017 HW 270 SW 263 CW 253

    Struggling Bad!

Like I said I'm 3 years out and only wish I would have found GENEPRO way back when. I hardly ever do Protein drinks now due to using GENEPRO in my coffee. Plus I am able to take more protein in with my food. It WILL get better. Just hang in there.
  18. This might sounds strange but I just put almost anything I was craving into a blender- 7 layer dip, clam chowder, white bean and ham stew, turkey/potatoes/gravy, etc. I added broth and GENEPRO to everything and it was so much better than boring shakes or standard soups!
  19. Hi everyone! I'm trying to decide on an unflavored protein powder. I was going to go with Genepro since a friend recommended it, but if it's not really 30g of protein per scoop, is it really worth it? I've looked a little bit into Unjury and peeked at Isopure...I like the price point on Isopure better than the other two, but has anyone tried all 3? Are there any others that you would recommend?
  20. I bought the GENEPRO. I'm 2 weeks post op and using it to supplement. I'm drinking premier Protein shake, eating cottage cheese and Greek yogurt to get protein as well. I'm not sure if it's a scam as I have read both sides. How can you tell who is telling the truth. I will ask dietician at my one month post op appointment. But I figure at this point as long as it's giving me some extra protein and doesn't have too much taste it's better than nothing. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Need help with protein

    Google Genepro scam
  22. @@TEXASLADY52 said: I cannot tolerate the sweet and I have never liked sweet drinks. Even the Greek Yogurt has tons of sugar in it. What I found is: Genepro http://www.musclegen.net/ .... this is oderless and tasteless and does not clump. You can add it to hot or cold....or just sprinkle over your food. This stuff is great. One tablespoon equals a scoop of whey and has 30 grams of Protein. It is approved by John Hopkins and has 96% absorbtion. You can also order it from Amazon. I fix a Crystal Light and a scoop. I understand you can contact the website and they will send you a sample? ______________________________________________________________________________ note: Ok, women, this is a "guys" thread and /or question please. So unless you're trying out for women's bodybuilding championships, how it works with you is not what I'm looking for......but thanks anyway. Saw this in another thread and it really impressed me. Have any of you "Men" used this product and if you have, what is your take on it? Results ?? Does it have any medical warnings or restrictions? What about side effects? Taste? etc.etc. Companies are always making outrageous claims and rarely deliver. Although the original poster of this product does tout it's desirability, she is female and I do believe men and women have vastly different guidelines and goals when it comes to supplements, workouts and body muscle etc. Additionally if you haven't used this particular product but are using a different one that provides substantial protein gains with similar properties.....please speak up and let us know.

    Mixing two proteins

Rick it's hard to get 64oz of water and 70g of protein in at this stage I'm in. So, i tried to see if had a short cut to something. But, since Genepro protein can be mixed in any drink I will spread out the intake of protein in my water. Thank you.
  25. etc. etc. etc.

    Isopure experience?

I went with Unjury, which was recommended by some folks here. It doesn't seem to taste at all, which is ideal. You can't order it from Amazon or find it in stores as far as I know. But it's on their site, priced reasonably (for what it is anyway) and they ship fast. Really though, everyone is going to swear the one they use is best. That is standard. The only one I warn against is Genepro, which claims to have 30 grams of protein per tablespoon... and there are 14.3 grams in a tablespoon. Some folks here love that one too and swear it's great, but that one makes me wary.
