Need practical advice (long)
LaLoLaughs replied to amyecpa's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 4.5 months out and I have to tell you, everything was harder at the beginning. I found it nearly impossible to get in all my Protein in in the first 2 weeks. I talked to my doctor at that time and he told me to concentrate on staying hydrated more than getting the protein in. Yes, I hit a wall on the third week, with a lack of energy, but it was too difficult to get the required amount of protein when you can eat so little at the beginning. It will get easier soon, so concentrate on getting enough Water for now. Also, I had the best luck with GENEPRO. It is as tasteless as I have found. It doesn't mix well in water, but blends in nearly undetectable in most other products. Finally, while i was still in the hospital, I was given liquid Prosource. I bought that on amazon when I got home bc that was the easiest way for me to get protein. I just added it to my water with a crystal light mix and it wasn't too bad. I think it was 15g of protein per 1 tbsp. Hope that helps. Lots of luck!! -
58 y.o. female looking for others my age who have had gastric bypass
beachgal2935 replied to Pamela Diamond's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hi everyone! I'm 53 and would love to be a part of this group. My surgery date is April 21st at Mayo Hospital! I start my 2 week pre-op Optifast liquid diet April 7th so I'm trying to soak up any and all information, tips, etc. I can get. I'm trying different Protein drinks to see which ones I like best. I purchased GENEPRO which supposedly has no taste and have added it to different drinks. I can taste it but can tolerate it and at 30 grams of protein for just 1 TBS, it's hard to beat. My favorite pre-made shake so far is EAS Carb Advantage which is 100 calories and 17g of protein. Has anyone tried unjury? My nutritionist told me yesterday that's what they use in the hospital. I'm thinking about ordering the sampler. Thank you for and advice you can share. -

Protein Ideas? HELP! 2 weeks post
champagne301 replied to nanno90's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm only out 2 or so weeks too, but these have saved me so far, Unflavored Genepro - It's only 1T and gives 30 grams of protein, and I mix it into jello, chicken broth or creamed soups. I also do Syntrax's Nectar and Matrix brand protein powder drinks...I found one that I absolutely LOVE, Matrix Mint Chocolate Chip Cookie. It tastes like a shamrock shake, and I could drink this every day w/o issues! I'm sure other's will have great ideas too, Good luck! -
January 7, 2015 was my surgery. Looking for a mentor.

GENEPRO is fantastic! No taste, ZERO! Add it to anything, hot or cold. It does not change the texture or flavor. No aftertaste, nothing! -
I figured out the "trick" with purees...
RedSalamander posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So I graduated to purees on Monday, woohoo! But I've been struggling along with them, booo. A few bites of scrambled eggs here, then I get overfull and barf delicately into the sink. A few bites of blenderized chicken Soup there, I get overfull and barf delicately into the sink. And hey, I'm a pretty good barfer. But that overfull feeling SUCKED. So finally, I made a decision the day before yesterday. I decided that consuming food was going to be an unpleasant necessity, something I'd just have to get through, but wouldn't look forward to or enjoy. (I also quit eggs and chicken!) What a difference! I exceeded my Protein goals yesterday and focused on non-meats like hummus and cheese and soup (blended sweet potato soup with GENEPRO this time!). I was able to eat much more (over 1/4 cup at lunch and dinner) and never felt overfull. That adjustment in expectations and the subsequent change in what I ate totally helped. So there you have it--eating sucks for a while after surgery, and that's Ok! You will figure out how to make it work. -

@@brighteyes64, congrats on getting sleeved! I've heard lots of people mention genepro protein powder, it's supposed to be flavorless & full of protein. Maybe you can use it in broths or add it to crystal lite. Check w/your doctor first to see if it's recommended. I didn't hear about it until after I was in phase IV (regular food). So I personally never tried it. Good luck. It gets easier. -
Unjury protein powder questions?
Thinkingthinner1109 replied to jenkbacon's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I use Unjury everyday. I use the chocolate splendor and I mix it with water and a tablespoon of Genepro and get 50 plus grams of protein in 8 ounces, I am 5 months post op and at goal now. (Just two days ago). It worked for me to get my protein in. -
Same problem with Protein intake finally found a protein that works for me. GENEPRO, odorless, tasteless, or somewhat tasteless today I discovered it's a little like powder milk, My daughter ordered it on Amazon, I mix it in a 1/4 cup of Water or juice and cream of wheat or Soup. It goes down well, You may want to give it a try. 30G per TBLS made by Musclegen Research. Hang in there, it really gets better.

How often did/do you eat during puree stage?
RedSalamander posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi all! I'm newly in the puree stage (woohoo!), and I'm not entirely sure how often I should be eating. For example, this morning for Breakfast I had maybe a 1/4 cup (if that) of cream of wheat made with GENEPRO. I saved the other portion (about half) and went back to have it about 2 hours later. I don't normally have a midmorning snack, but I really wanted to get in the whole 15g of Protein. How often do you guys eat? I don't want my protein Quest to become a grazing habit, and I'm not feeling hunger yet because I'm not far enough out. -
Best scrambled eggs ever!
RedSalamander replied to RedSalamander's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good ideas, all! I had cream of wheat (with a half-scoop of genepro!) this morning. FOOOOOD! -
I was supposed to, but I have problems with artificial sweetner so I bought Genepro. Its flavorless so I can mix it with anything, I really, like it.

? About Genepro unflavored
carolk36 replied to MamaTo3inNH's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I've not tried it in Water but I've mixed it with just about everything else (including hot decaf coffee) and it's virtually undetectable. I had surgery in September and since October I have used no other Protein supplement but GENEPRO. My surgeon approved it and my NUT researched it because I was concerned about comments I had read here, and she said the peptide was completely appropriate. It's the only whey product I can ingest without gagging from either the smell, taste, or both. I got the numbers back from my blood tests on the 20th and every number was within normal range, including protein. My surgeon was very happy with my numbers. Let us know how it worked in water and Benefiber. Best of luck, Carol -

I just got a bag of this, and it's quite $$$ so I don't want to waste it. Can you taste the supplement if you mix it with Water? I drink a bottle of water with benefiber per day and it is undetectable - I'm hoping the GENEPRO is too. TIA!

Hi Heather I do not like most of the protein powders out there. From all the ones I have tried the best ones for me are: vanilla from Unjury, chicken soup from Unjury and the best of all is unflavored protein from Genepro (you can find it in Amazon). Genepro is really good because 1 scoop (which is small compared to the rest, only 2 TBPS) has 30 grms. of protein, it mixes really well in cold and hot and it really is unflavored. I mix it with strawberry yogurt (100 cal. chobani) and you cannot even tell is there. I showed it to my NUT and she approved it. Hope this helps and best of luck!

I bought a gummy multi Vitamin with a little Fiber from Walmart, bought Calcium and Iron chewable from Celebrate Vitamins. I stocked up on different pre-made broths. I bought a taste-free protein add-in called GENEPRO on Amazon(to add to any water, broths,Gatorade I can tolerate post-op) and found that I like a Protein shake from Arbonne Essentials. I just ordered the nectar sample pack from Syntax yesterday, 18 different flavors to try. A veteran from this site told me to have something on hand for the surgical incisions, like tips, neosporin, gauze and paper tape. Also, bring a pillow to hold over your stomach for the jolts on the ride home. I need to get some sugar-free Jello cups and sf popsicles (if I can keep the Hubs out of them!). I know this sounds like a lot, but we live rural and if I don't have it at the house, it takes an act of congress to get it! I get a little nuts about being prepared, my control issues run deep!

New to the site and 9 days post-op of the sleeve and looking for encouragement:)
applegal79 replied to soubifan700's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I use the pre mixed Premier protein drinks from SAMs/Costco. They are a little pricy but 30g protein and tastes like a chocolate milk. I'm not a fan of these protein powders because if they don't mix well I can't get them down! I had my surgery on 12/12 so am still taking baby steps to 'normal' food. I found a product called genepro on Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00K6OSDYA/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1422081162&sr=8-1) that is 30g protein in a small scoop. I've read people put it in their coffee, I add it to my light cream soup and stir it up till it's dissolved in. (Don't put it in your water it makes it a very foggy color and doesn't dissolve well) I can't stand the isopure it tastes really nasty in my opinion! I have tried these protein waters and the grape isn't bad! Just keep trying you'll find something that works for you! attachment=51087:ImageUploadedByBariatricPal1422081372.189330.jpg] -
Help, please! Premier Protein shakes taste awful to me.. Need recommendations!
Stevehud replied to blissfulbeing's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Syntrax Nectars are my personal favorites. I use 1 and 1/2 scoops of product with 5 ounces of liquid that way you get 35 grams of Protein in a 5 to 6 pounce serving, no product can touch that. If you are interested you can view my video taste tests of many brands and flavors on my blog at http://cuttingthefatwithaknife.blogspot.com By the way the GENEPRO people have sent me a letter Texas lady showing that their product is only 10 grams of protein per serving. as you cannot get 30 grams of protein product from a 15 gram serving size ( 1 tablespoon is 15 grams) Their study is a spreadsheet no actual study was done and the award they say they received was sponsored by musclegen which is the company that makes Genepro. Also your blood work doesn't show protein levels, serum protein, which is almost never looked at in blood does not show protein intake, only protein in the blood at that time, just so you know. -

jess9395 replied to blissfulbeing's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Please read the Genepro thread on here. It doesn't have 30 g of protein per scoop, it actually has 10g. They claim its 3x more bio available so it's EQUIVALENT to 30g of another brand, but the science is questionable or at least unverified by independent research. Just FYI. I can't do premier either before or after surgery. Tastes plastic to me. I use Syntrax and BSN powders and the occasional premade Atkins or GNC Lean.
