Hi Barbra, Good answer Tanya. I still have your bowl of Soup in the freezer. You didn't come to TOPS last night. Maybe next Tuesday. LOL Barb are you suppose to be doing 2 weeks liquids? I wouldn't do the chicken salad so soon but the egg salad is definately softer and will go down easier. Don't forget to take your drinks with you; Water, gatorade or crystal light. I bring Breakfast and lunch to work everyday. I bring or keep these things at work; cheese sticks, grapes, soup, yogurt, sf pudding, oatmeal, and always a Protein drink. I never want to get sick at work. Good Luck chew, chew, chew

Most patients are on full liquid diets on day 10 postop. Your surgeon allows yogurt this soon? Are you eating fat free plain Greek yogurt? Or name brand, carb-loaded regular yogurt? Stats: 5'1", age 67, female. Highest weight: 245. BMI 41. Surgery Date: May 28, 2020. Weight at surgery: 211. VSG. -
After years of partying and always being the jolly fat lad, I decided after a harsh relationship break down to take stock of my life. I seem to have spent the majority of my adult life on a diet losing a little bit here and there but thing major and I would always end up pilling the weight back on plus a bit more. I am not unhealthy I was in the gym 3-4 times a week an playing rugby but nothing seemed to move the weight. I got injured playing rugby and had to stop playing an weight just spiralled out of control. it all came to a head in the summer of 2014 I was 31 years old and out of breath walking up the stairs at home and work. I grew bored of making excuses as to why I was out of breath and found it hard to admit that it was because of my weight but I knew something had to be done. I went to the my GP but he advised me there was 3-4 year wait for a consultation and offered me half price vouchers for a slimming world class. I advised him id tried that an weight watchers and the Cambridge diet etc. I decided I would go private I booked a consultation and met with the Spires health group in Bromsgrove at this point I had not told anyone about having surgery and contained to play the jolly fat guy. The morning of the consultation was the hardest thing I had done to date. I had a lot of doubt in my mind of I was doing the right thing or if I was a failure as I couldn't get the weight off and stick to a diet by myself but walking through those doors was the best thing I ever did the staff there where professional and treated me with respect. I met with my consultant Mr Nirja, and he conducted all the relevant tests an took my weight BMI etc. he then sat me down and explained both the sleeve an bypass options we decided between us I would go for the sleeve. After my meeting with Mr Nirja I was then taken in to another room and spoke to a lady called Sally who has actually had one of the first bypass in the UK many moons ago. this was just an extra thing they offered encase we felt we couldn't ask the Surgeon. All in all I was in there for around 2 hours. I came out feeling positive for the first time in a while, I decided I would have my surgery on the 20th December for the reason being I would have broken up from work by then and I would have 2 weeks off to recover as I had no holiday left to take. At this point I still had not told anyone I was having the surgery done. I was to start my liquid diet of 3 pints of milk an 2 yogurts on the 6th December 2014. I was excited and very nervous at the same time. on the 4th December after stressing about how my family would react I finally plucked up the courage to tell them. All the thoughts I had about how they would react and the questions id get bombarded with proved to be untrue my family were very supportive even if it did take me a few attempts to explain what exactly I was having done and what would happen. on the 6th I started the liquid diet and passed this off at work as another fad diet I was trying to much ridicule as per usual, It was probley the hardest 2 weeks I had in life up to that point as its a mental battle as there is nothing stopping you from actually saying sod it and eating normal food. The first 3days for me personally was torture I had stomach cramps and flatulent. But on the 4th day my body had accepted it and the rest of the time was a breeze. On Saturday 20th December I checked into the hospital in Solihull at 11am, I asked my parents to leave as I felt I had to brave this on my own. At 1pm I was walked down to theatre which was an experience in it self walking into a room that looked liked an alien space ship. I remember waking up around 6:20pm on that afternoon surrounded by doctors and nurses apparently my heart had stopped twice during the operation and I had to be brought back. I didn't wake up in pain just a dull ache really. After I spoke to a doctor they wheeled me in to ICU where I spent my first night with my new stomach. That night I didn't sleep much and spent the night talking to the nurse who was appointed to look after me. I had the last of my pain killers at 2am on the 21st December less then 12 hours post surgery an I have not had a single one since It wasn't me being a Martyr I just wasn't in any pain. On the Sunday morning my family visited me apart from being tired an sore I felt good I was up walking about. Just after lunch on the Sunday I was taken back to my room and I decided I would walk it instead of using the wheel chair. That Sunday was spent just watching TV and drifting in and out of sleep I was so bored lol. The Sunday night I slept like a log and a woke about 7am on the Monday morning a nurse asked if id like a cup of tea which I accepted and it was the best thing I had tasted in my life lol, My consultant came and visited me at 9am and said I was allowed to go home as soon as the nurses had brought my medicine from the pharmacy. I was discharged around 10:30am that morning with a bag of FastTab anti acids and some dissolvable paracetmol for when I need them (Still unopened) The First week was an eye opening experience first time Id had half a can of Soup for xmas dinner. I am now into week 7 since the op and I am not allowed to do any exercise at the moment until the end of February 2015. But I have lost 85lbs in 7 weeks so I am happy with the way its going. Already I feel so much better and happier in myself and clothes are getting baggy already, well this is my story so far sorry for waffling and ill keep updating it every so often. To anyone thinking of having surgery DO IT you wont regret it its not going to be easy far from it but my god its worth it!!!!! if you ever have any question please get in touch.

I'm Scared - Something is going wrong - HELP PLEASE

It's good to hear the liquids are helping. I just discovered something called keifer, it is a pro biotic (kinda like a yogurt smoothie) and has some live cultures in it. I am on a very strong antibiotic and it has helped to protect my stomach. Might be worth checking out, I got mine in the dairy section right beside yogurt. Dannon makes it, so does lifeway. I bought the lifeway, it was cheaper had more in it and came in more flavors. Maybe that will help to coat your stomach and also boot the immune system. ~Mandy -

Having a hard day...
shedevil replied to 140icandoit's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is so weird how different our des can be. I was on liquid for 4 days and then we were allowed Turkey, chicken, footage cheese, yogurt, refried beans. At one week we could have veggies and fruits..no skin. I asked my surgeon why the difference. He said there is no proof that going through all the stages makes any difference. He said that they wanted us to get on with our lives. I was nervous but have lost 24 lbs since 8/30. -
My question would be what does your doctor consider mushies. My first week of mushies was yogurt or cottage cheese. Oatmeal would not have been approved by my doctor nor eggs. Both of those would either be second week of mushies or solid. My recommendation would be to stick to less dense foods for now such as cottage cheese, ricotta or yogurt.

Try the yogurt

Help needed bad....need advice and support PLEASE!!!

You know, if you are eating more than usual, and were getting hungry sooner, you might have been ready for the fill. It may just be some residual swelling as you adjust to it. I would take it very easy, go onto some liquids, then just feel your way along slowly--your body might just take a few days to settle back down following the new fill. For me--I do feel like I am at my sweet spot---because I simply do not feel hunger. I can likely eat more than most bandsters because I am not very tight---I eat so much less than ever before, but more than some bandsters I know! Last night for dinner, I had a grilled hamburger on a bun, and I ate just about half of it, and about 1/2 cup of cottage cheese, and about 3 Scoop size fritos. Tonight we are having pot roast, I will eat a piece of roast---say 1/2 a cup, 1/2 of a potato and several small carrots....with the gravy it cooked in. I am tighter in the morning, I eat usually part of a container of yogurt with granola in it. If we go out for fast food, I can eat a Taco, and some pintos and cheese at Taco Bell. I donot count calories, I try to eat healthier than the things I have mentioned here, I was just drawing on recent memory!!! I do try to make the biggest portions of my meal Protein and vegetables---less starchy foods. I am having a TT done soon, and will have to be unfilled, I am afraid!!! I have not felt hungry to have to fight that feeling in almost 2 years! Not sure how I will do to be honest. I am impressed that it was your first slime and PB after 5 months---you must be doing really well following the rules! Way to GO!!! I would just take it easy, the fill may settle in, and be fine, but if you continue to have problems I would ask for a teensy weensy unfill ---no sense in being miserable. Glad you are feeling better! Kat -
Maybe try unflavored protein powder (Unjury.com has some in individual packets you could try) added to some broth. I have been enjoying a puréed black bean soup (2 cans) made with onions (diced), a little jalapeño pepper 1 tblsp diced), 6 cups low sodium chicken broth, 1 can diced tomatoes and spices (chili powder, oregano paprika cumin. ). I serve it topped with shredded cheddar cheese. Yum. Lots of fiber and protein. Also I enjoy plain low sugar Greek yogurt. If you don't like sugar substitutes you can use puréed fruit like peaches or banana to sweeten.

Hi everyone. My name is Margaret. I am a mother, wife, friend, employee advocate, and a lover of dogs. I live with my husband and Chug (Chihuahua/pug) in Colorado. I just had my revision surgery on June 30th from lap band to sleeve. I am at Bariatric Stage IV - eating pureed foods and drinking Protein drinks. I am limited to five foods: egg whites, plain yogurt, refried Beans, cottage cheese and pudding. I am also taking liquid Vitamins and getting B-12 monthly injections. My daily goals are to continue to drink 64 oz of Fluid each day; eat/drink 65 grams of protein, walk 30 minutes (if not more), and continue to protect my surgery incisions and stomach by not lifting, pulling, pushing anything over 15 lbs.I am glad that the doctor limits his patients to five foods because I think it's really easy at this point to overdue it on other soft foods that may not be so healthy for you. The weight is coming off slowly which I think is good. I feel pretty good except last night, I had a side ache next to the incision where my port use to be. Other than that, I feel really good. I think this surgery was much easier than the lap band. I still get hungry and the food that my husband is eating looks tempting. However, I try to remind myself that this is just head hunger. I don't think I am really hungry. I am no longer a coffee drinker since we were told to stop drinking it. I was totally addicted to coffee mostly because of the liquid creamers. I feel so much better and I no longer have to have coffee first thing in the morning I am just beginning this journey and I am still learning to listen to my body. I am not in a support group at this time but I would love to connect with others who are on a similar journey.

Eleven days post op and if I was on Iron Chef, my battle would be ...
LipstickLady posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Protein vs. liquid Cuz it sure as heck can't be both. I got in a record amount of fluids today at the pool! I figured that was more important after spending an entire day in the sun. For the first time, I got down 40 oz of Water, but I had to force myself to eat 2oz of yogurt and 2 oz of creamed Soup and I am paying for it now. My youngest can't stop herself from giggling at the ferocious noises that are coming from my throat. Fortunately, before I drank all that, I got in one entire Protein shake so I got some protein in, but when I opened the second, it went back in the fridge after a few sips. Ugh... One day at a time, right? Still no complaints but it sure is weird having the FULL feeling up so high instead on in a thanksgiving tummy. I really wouldn't be unhappy staying this way IF I could figure out how to work out a belch faster. Ideas? (And if one more person goes to burp me like an infant, they will be gagging on their own teeth, for real!) -
Sitting here eating a salad
No game replied to Kelsnikol's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I put chicken on my salad! You can do some roasted chicken skinless so you get your Protein. Tons of lettuce and if you want dressing.. (Sometimes i just put salt and pepper) Bolt house farms makes a Greek yogurt dressing that is low cal and has protein -
@@BobbyD - walmart also carries a greek yogurt in four packs that are 80 calories. Not as many varieties but I love the strawberry cheesecake! You can add Protein to bump up the content, but watch the sugars and calories as well. I was told to try to get single digit grams of sugar or under (1-9 grams) and double digit protein (10 or better)

How long did it take before you were back to "normal"?
Wuggum posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello all! I just had my surgery yesterday and I'm looking forward to being back to normal! I've been moving around quite a bit and walking or climbing stairs doesn't really bother me. Also, I have that "worked out too much" type pain in my neck, stomach and legs that I think will go away in another few days. But, I have no desire to eat or drink anything. My throat is very sore, but I've still been trying to make sure I get enough protein in with shakes and yogurt. I'm also trying to wean myself off the pain medication - makes me too sleepy. We have visitors coming this weekend who are staying at our house for a week - lots of activities in the area planned - I hope I'm up for it by then!! -
How long did it take before you were back to "normal"?
Wuggum replied to Wuggum's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So far, I've mainly been sipping a lot of ice water. That seems to be helping the sore throat along with the popsicle I had today. I've also tried some yogurt and some sugar-free pudding - but both tasted too sweet and I only had a small bite. I really like the protein shake I started several months ago, so I think that will be "dinner" tonight. But it seems like after a few small sips, I don't have any desire for more. I guess that's a good thing! The hubby is going to pick up some applesauce for me tonight to see if that's any better. And I'm really hoping the overall soreness goes away - feels like I just ran a marathon - every muscle in my upper arms, neck, back, stomach and legs hurts! Maybe weaning myself off the pain meds too early was a bad idea - I'll definitely take another dose before bed! -
I'll admit, the Protein is a struggle. a lot of the pureed protein options (tuna, chicken salad) are giving me diarrhea (also had gallbladder out during RNY) and eggs are getting OLD. I do my shake in the morning and yogurts during the day. Eggs when I can stand the thought. It's rarely 4 hours, usually 3. But I wake up feeling really HUNGRY and if it's been 3 hours, there's a good chance I really feel the need to eat.

2 weeks out, what is the pain???
Boredoncemore replied to Boredoncemore's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think I will try some Maalox or something...finally after 4 days of pain I can finally think of trying some mushies...I really didn't do any full liquids, nothing that sounded or tasted good to me, I've lived on Isopure and water! I'm hoping it was just eating a semi solid food and it freaked my stomach out. I can't imagine how 2 ounces of yogurt done that--but it hurt like *&^%! Now I'm just scared to eat anything, I'll be glad with my period is over and I can tell which pain is from which problem! Last night sleeping was awful, the past 4 days I've had to take 3-4 hot bathes and showers to relax my body, it is so tense from the pain. UGH! How did I manage to do so well for 11 days??! I was eating mashed potatos just fine and then BOOM--no no! -

Don't let this discourage you. My husbands aunt had GB 8 years ago she went from a size 24 to a size 4 and she has maintained her weight loss all these years. I asked her tonight what was her secret. She said no caffeine, no soda, beer, or wine. Drink lots of Water, eat three small meals a day and three small Snacks. I asked what sort of snacks she said yogurt or 1/2 banana. I wish you the best of luck and we are all here to support you. -

I am on soft solid stage 1. Greek yogurt, fat free re fried Beans or beans chewed really well, pudding, Protein shakes, scrambled eggs, cheese. I was told to try 1 new item per meal to make sure that my body can handle it. In 3-4 days I progress to soft solids stage 2, ground beef, lunch meat, chicken, cooked veggies. That is my life for the first month!! They said to take a small bite, chew really well and wait 1-4 minutes to make sure that your body is accepting the texture. It should take 15 mins to eat the few oz of food at each meal! Good luck on everything!! SW:327 CW:239 GW:155 Heather in Texas -
I had my sixth fill yesterday. It was hard earned...the doc always has a hard time finding my port and he had to poke me quite a bit to find it. Just when he was going to give up, he got it. He gave me .25cc's and then I drank the barrium...I love seeing on the tv what it feels like in my stomach. We both thought it looked good..but just for good measure I always drink some water. So, the water gurgled down nicely and I am so happy. This morning I had three bites of yogurt and I was full. It's such a great feeling. I ate a small piece of banana bread for a mid morning snack and that went down just fine...I feel like I just ate the whole loaf...that's why restriction is so awesome. Let's hope this restriction level stays for awhile and I don't need to get poked (with a needle, anyway..hee hee)again for a long time. The doc did say that he should move my port so it's not so hard to get to. Has anyone else gone through the surgery? Can you tell me your experience? Megan

How long til I can eat more than 4 oz?
JackieV replied to Brownrek's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 5.5 months out. I can eat 6 oz of yogurt but 2-3 oz of solid food is pushing it.
