  1. I know what you mean... I heard a lot of crap for having it done, even though they told me I looked good ? Weather they liked it or not, or approved of it or not. I did it for me ! I planned on living a while. Now people are starting to tell me that I look good again, and the biggest NSV that I got the other day, was that someone wants to come over to my house, and talk to me about the Band, Because they have seen the success, that I have had, and they know that I did the right thing.... How's that for a Twist in the Band Story.
  2. Go ahead and compare to me.... You won't be disappointed. 5 days up 11 pounds from surgery day. 11 days Weighed the same as surgery day. 6 weeks postp lost 17 pounds 7 weeks gained 3 pounds 10 weeks back to 17 pounds lost 12 weeks lost 25 pounds postop. As you can see, stalls and even gains are normal. Also notice that I only weighed myself 6 times in the first 3 months. scale numbers DO NOT MATTER. Just stay on plan, STAY OFF THE SCALE, embrace the NSVs and have fun!!!!

    Nsv!

I have a dimple! Not like the kind that is on my thighs...the FACE kind! Who knew. Ive never been small enough to see it. This is by leaps and bounds the best NSV Ive had so far!

    HUGE NSV!

So I am three weeks post op. And so far I've lost 43 pounds. 22 before surgery. 21 after surgery. Well today was my first day back at the gym. Before surgery I use to work out all the time but when I started my wls program I kinda cut back A LOT. I didn't go at all for about a month before surgery. Today I ran my fastest mile EVER. On my FIRST day back at the gym in about 2 months when I use to go EVERY OTHER DAY! I couldn't even come close to a 15 min mile but today I did it in 14! I just can't believe I did it. I had no expectations going back to the gym. I told myself I would take it slow but instead I let my body tell me what it could do and it paid off! It's like the healthy me who's been trapped inside all this fat for years was screaming at me "LOOK WHAT YOU CAN DO KACY"! I seriously wanted to cry. I've worked so damn hard for years to manage my weight. And it blew my mind how big of a difference 40 pounds makes when it comes to exercise. I loved working out before. But now I love it more because I know it's actually helping me this time. In the past I worked out for months and never lost a single pound. Now I want to keep pushing myself and KNOWING it's going to pay off now because of the surgery just makes me so excited to go back to the gym. On cloud 9 right now

Ok I have to ask what does NSV acutally mean? I've seen it used a few times and I've no clue :-)
  6. When I first started this journey back in August 2013, I weighed 301 pounds and according to my BMI of 50.1, I was "super obese." Now, 61 pounds later, I have a BMI of 39.9 and am *just* "obese." I also got a call from my PCP - she said my bloodwork confirmed that I no longer have to continue my diabetes or hypertension medication and that my bloodwork looks fabulous. The only thing I need to do is get my good cholesterol up and I can do that with exercise - which has been happening 4-6 days a week since surgery so I think I'm on the right track. Still have a ways to go but it's nice to see the results in so many various "weighs." From giving away clothing, putting on dresses that didn't fit for a good long while and now seeing things like my BMI and being off some medication. I'm sure that I'll hit a stall soon, or there will be bumps in the road but I'm trying not to focus on the negative and really just focus on the good news. And be happy. It's a novel experience, really. Hope everyone is having a good Thursday! Holiday weekend is almost here!!!

    My Fabulous NSV

That is a wonderful nsv. When you move into the category where people see you as thin/skinny without ever knowing that you used to be heavy. Congratulations, gingerbug. You are doing wonderful . . . especially at a little over a year out. I agree exercise makes all the difference in the world, without it I would have exceeded my goal, I probably would have been 20 to 30 pounds away from goal.
  8. that certainly qualifies as an excellent NSV!
  9. A lap?! Fabulous NSV, congratulations.

    Mommy dearest, the destoyer....

Brandy, what an awfully insensitive thing for your mother to say. I'm sorry that you had to endure that after such a wonderfully cathartic day (and I'm thinking it was probably a great NSV for you, too). My mother would probably say something similar, but I do know that in her case, it would be because she doesn't throw a darned thing away and she's from the Depression Era. Even if it doesn't fit or is out of style, it stays because it cost money. Unfortunately I have gotten that packrat mentality and I've got to get control. I hope to be able to do what you did today and clear stuff out. Good for you for doing that.

    NSV!

I started my sleeve journey on May 8th, that was the day my band to sleeve revision was done. Today I put on a pair of size 12 jeans from the Disney Store, from years ago. My husband and daughter bought them for me for Christmas, I was doing the yo-yo dieting back then, and they bought the largest size available to encourage me to keep up the diet exercise I was doing. Well today I put them on and they FIT. And if I do say do they looked amazing!!!
  12. Myself. Sure, I love all the NSVs, having the energy to enjoy things I couldn't as much before, better health, and everything that comes with weighing a lot less. But very importantly, I am developing more self-confidence, self-esteem and a lot less self-loathing and depression on what I allowed myself to become physically.
  13. I think my best NSV is NOT feeling heart palpitations and out of breath everyday like I'm going to die soon.
  14. Just had follow up blood work done, specifically to test for Vitamin D and A1C levels - pre surgery my Vitamin D was at 10, now at 29 (recommended is 30+). My A1C was at 7%, now at 5.8% (7 is diabetic and 5.8 is pre-diabetic). Feels so great to moving myself outside of the dangers that come with diabetes! Fortunately all my other numbers were good. And, I have just donated 10 bags of professional clothing that no longer fits me and my closets are empty. I want to thank the posters of these Forums - I don't fear the stalls (had a week 5 one, others to come no doubt), I am tracking everything, relate to the # on the scale as a tool to assess what's working and what's not working and feel great. I am proud to have lost 30% of my excess weight and can't believe what has gotten accomplished in the past two months!!!!! Life is a privilege!
  15. Shoe size just marginal but I lost from a D width to a B, so that's a NSV for ME!
  16. While I've had several NSVs, nothing was more meaningful than this one. I started at a dance studio last year 2 months before I had surgery, and returned a few months post surgery. Last month I participated in the filming of a promo video for the studio. It can be found on YouTube by searching ShakeItLatinStyle PreRoll. The studio is in Mill Creek WA. I've attached the link, I'm not shown much but I'm wearing a purple tank top - short hair in the back corner. The very idea that I am actually LIVING life instead of watching from the sidelines is great accomplishment!

    Non-Scale Victories!!

gingy, I think anything that makes you feel better is an NSV. I would even have to classify the smoking thing up to a SUPER NSV since it will have such a positive impact on your health!!! WTG girl!! WTG all the knockouts!!

    Non-Scale Victories!!

Awesome NSV's 40. I vented a little last night to my man because no one that I work with has commented on my weight loss... Well, finally today, one of the guys I work with said, WOW, look at you, what's going on?! Now, I feel a little better. While I was venting to my man last night his comment was, "Well, they don't get to see you naked:thumbup:"! He He He... I'm just so tall that 40 pounds doesn't show much, which was a blessing when I was heavier, I guess...

    Non-Scale Victories!!

Knockouts - y'all are awesome!! I LOVE hearing these!! My NSV for the week - I went shopping, looking for new pants - it was pretty crappy weather (rain/snow) and I was on my bike, but I had layers on and was warm and I was LOVING IT...I was so muddy and blasting thru every puddle - it was so FUN!!! Outside Sears, I had a guy in a WHEELCHAIR tell me that me being on my bike in the rain was an awful way to get around that day...Excuse me? UR serious? UR in a wheelchair? I was so estatic that I could even MOVE, that I could even get around....last summer I had constant back pain, there's no way I would have even had enough ambition to do that! Never did find any pants I liked?!?! Just think.... where was everyone at 1 year ago today???? I know I was so so unhappy and miserable.....

    Non-Scale Victories!!

I had a new NSV this weekend. I fit into size 22 jeans. The scale, it sure isn't moving for me, but knowing the I am in jeans a size smaller is helping!! ~Amy

    Non-Scale Victories!!

You guys are doing so well! I've shrunk completely out of most of my bottoms (underwear even fell down once--fortunately I was wearing pants!), so I went shopping last week. I bought all 16Ws! Along with 2 14/16 shirts from LB! I'm not a 16W in everything, and I'm definitely still an 18/20 in most tops, but it's so awesome to be getting into smaller sizes again. Other NSVs: --I took 4 flights last week and had room to spare on the seatbelt on every flight! --I can cross my legs again!! --Everyone keeps asking me if I've changed my hair and telling me it looks great. Thing is, I *have* changed it recently, but I don't think that's the only reason I'm getting compliments. Keep it up, everyone! It's not easy, but it's soooo worth it!

    Non-Scale Victories!!

My NSV - I am going out on a date tonight and for the 1st time EVER I am not totally fixiated on how fat I am....I have a great outfit put together, and I'm going for the company, the experience, the environment and to have a great time! OMG - is this confidence?!?! I can't remember what that felt like?!?!?
  25. Hey everyone, I think we need a thread for us January's to share all of our NSV's! We've had a couple separate postings from different people, but I thought I would start a thread dedicated to NSV's. I have always enjoyed going back and reading people's NSV's a few times. So ... let'er rip!
