  1. I’m not a good reference for weighloss after revision because I had the revision when I was at goal but the preop and stress of surgery led me to lose 10-15lbs. (I worked to regain that weight as my surgeon did not want me to lose any additional weight)

    Postop

My father never had surgery but suffered from GERD as long as I can remember. He was diagnosed with esophageal cancer last year. That’s what motivated me to get this done. Before surgery I was also on pantoprazole twice daily and still taking tums and GasX daily too. I also wear a CPAP and had unbearable aerophagia every morning. That’s ultimately why I chose to go through with it. My sleeve didn’t help me much with weight loss but I lost 70 lbs earlier this year between the nausea and vomiting! As I type this I just woke up with similar but milder symptoms and I’m 10 days post op. I really hope it’s just due to the healing process! Everyone I’ve read about says all symptoms of GERD disappear after revision

    October 2022 surgery support

Had my surgery on 10/24. The first week and a half I was steady losing a pound or two a day. For the last 10 days however my weight has gone up and down by the same 1-2 pounds so I guess I’ve hit the dreaded stall that people experience around the 2-3 week mark. I’m down 13 pounds since my surgery date and 24 pounds since starting the pre op diet. I have noticed my pants have gotten baggier and my face is thinner. I started at 215 pounds with a BMI of 34 so I expected my results to be slower since I was on the “lower” size for this surgery. It’s crazy how everyone’s diets are different with each doctor. As of this week I’m allowed most foods with the exception of beef, pork, rice, Pasta, bread, raw vegetables and nuts. I am mostly eating small amounts of chicken, tuna, eggs, refried Beans, cottage cheese and some fruits. My doctor has told me to prioritize Protein and aim for 60 grams a day. I have to drink 1-2 Protein Shakes to accomplish this as my portions are not big enough to get that from food yet. I was also told no straws which is also seems to vary by doctor. I feel like I’m doing ok mostly. I have been struggling mostly with just getting my fluids in. I am supposed to drink 64 ounces a day of which 20 is plain Water. Because I can only take sips and not drink 30 minutes before or after I eat it can be challenging. It takes me a couple hours usually to drink one cup of water. So that’s my biggest hurdle right now. I’m trying to be better with it and track. Any tips? Otherwise I’m looking forward to breaking through this plateau and seeing more progress. Hopefully in the coming weeks the scale will move again. I’m trying not to obsess over it but 20+ years of yo-yo dieting has given a lot of power to that damn thing 😡

I had surgery on 10/18 - the day after you. I have lost 19 pounds since day of surgery. My profile is misleading, because it shows my highest weight, which was 245. It doesn't show you that my surgery weight was 220. So, take heart, I've lost less than you.

Weight loss update? My surgery on 10/17 and I have had such a hate/hate relationship with scales my whole life that I decided I was not buying a scale because I did not want it to be about the "number". However, now I fear I am behind schedule. I was looking at stats on profiles of others around my size, but they are not easy to really determine where everyone is and was. For example, my weight when I "started this journey" was 270. However, my weight on surgery day was 265. I was weighed 7 days post-op and had lost 7 pounds. I was weighed today as part of life insurance enrollment, and I am 244. That is ONLY 21 pounds in nearly FIVE weeks!! WTH! How are all my other October surgery teammates coming along??
  6. I had surgery on 10/17 (Saturday) and went back to work 10/24 (Monday). I had no pain or issues working but keeping up with water and protein intake has been as struggle. I also struggle with remembering to get up from my desk and take a walk. However, I am now almost five weeks out and am still having the same issues. I think, with a desk job, going back in one week or a month is not much different. No matter when you go back the fluid intake and movement are going to be an issue. I have yet to figure out a real solution. I have become much better about the protein and doing okay with water. The process of getting the steps/movement in is so HARD! Even with walking 30 min on lunch and 30 min after work I am nowhere near my desired step count. If anyone has a long-term solution to the "desk job" problem PLEASE SHARE!

Ashleydasley...great job. I'm almost exactly where you are, including beginning weight and now. I hit a stall at 3 weeks for about 10 days and then boom, down 8lbs.. it's crazy but I just keep doing what I'm suppose to and I think the next time I hit a stall I won't be so freaked out. Went out for lunch today with my mom and was actually able to put on an old pair of jeans that zipped. Haven't worn any pants like that for years.
  8. Hello everyone. I’m new here and wanted to introduce myself. I found this forum a few days ago and have enjoyed reading the posts. I am a 40 year old female and had my surgery on 10/24. My starting weight when I first started the pre op liquid diet was 215. I was 204 the day of my surgery. I’m just a bit over the 3 week mark and I’m down to 191. The past week or so the scale hasn’t moved much. I was a bit confused at first since I know I’m not consuming more than 5-600 calories a day but then I started reading about the stalls in the week 2-3 range and realized it’s normal as my body needs time to heal and get my water level back up. So I’m trying not to stress over the scale. It’s crazy because in my diet days I would have been thrilled at a 13 pound loss in 3 weeks, but after surgery I’m like “is that all?!” But I’m trusting the process. I also know that I’m starting out at a lower BMI then most people that have this surgery so I’m probably not going to have these massive losses. The surgery itself was pretty smooth. I work nights so I got off work at 5am, took a quick shower and went to the hospital at 6:30am to start the procedure. Needless to say after surgery I slept for most the day lol. I was a bit sore and nauseous when I woke up but they were good about giving me meds. By the second day I didn’t have as much pain but the nausea was still there. The most annoying part was I had to pee every hour thanks to all the fluids they pumped through my IV. So I constantly had to call for a nurse to unhook me and help me up and into the bathroom. The only other hard part was my vision. No one warned me that a side effect of the nausea patch they put behind my ear effects your vision. It kind of freaked me out because I couldn’t read my cell phone screen at all. It was just a big blur. I finally asked the nurse and she explained the issue. Before I left the hospital I asked them to remove the patch. It took another 2 days before my vision was fully restored. So that was a challenge. Not only could I not read my phone but I couldn’t read the prescription bottles either. Had to rely on my family to tell me which pills were which and when to take them. Otherwise the experience wasn’t terrible. Otherwise I’m feeling pretty good. The weird gurgling every time I eat is a bit annoying. It doesn’t hurt exactly but it’s still not comfortable. At first I thought maybe I was eating too fast, but that doesn’t seem to make a difference. I’ve learned through this forum that it’s pretty common. What else….. oh vitamins! The chewable ones were gross so I switched to the chewy ones. They’re not terrible but not great either. I’m looking forward to when I can just switch to capsule vitamins. I have officially dropped a pants size so that’s nice. I have a range of clothes from size 16-10 from all my yo yo dieting phases so I at least have options while I’m losing. Today I’m in the 14s and packed up my 16s to donate. If I get smaller than the 10s I’ll be planning a shopping trip. I really enjoy this forum. The only people that know I had the surgery was my wife and my best friend. I didn’t tell the rest of my family or coworkers. So having a safe place to talk about my experience and compare stories has been nice.

Just checking in with everyone. I had my two week post op checkup today and I'm down 10 lbs since surgery date and 30 lbs since starting the journey last summer. My pants are getting baggy and I love it! I'm on the pureed diet which has been going pretty well. It's hard to fit enough protein and liquid in each day but I'm trying! How is everyone else from October doing?

    November 2022 surgery support!

I also tried the Panera Lonster Bisque and found it dId not sit well with my stomach. Over all though, i struggle getting all my fluids still. The random muscle near my main incision hurts a lot less than it did a few days ago. I am super itchy from healing. I weighed myself at 264, which is 19 lbs less than my starting weight but only 3 lbs less than my presurgery weight.
  11. Today is a day for everyone to celebrate themselves! Post one accomplishment, achievement, baby step, thing that made you happy! Toot your own horn and celebrate something no matter how big or small today! It can be weight loss, personal achievement, work achievement, walking in a store, going outside your comfort zone or whatever you want …. Here’s mine: I am finally down 10 lbs from surgery after my adventures and dropping fas (Saturday I was half a pound above surgery weight due to ivs etc), and one pound from loosing 100 this calendar year! I celebrate my body is healing, infection clearing snd all the fluid is leaving so I can smile at the fat loss finally showing up on the scale. your turn!

New Here and Planning Surgery in October

A little late to this thread but I had my sleeve on 10/24 so I am just past the 3 week mark. The pre op diet sucked. The first couple of days wasn’t so bad as I drank a lot of water, broth, jello and protein shakes. However 48 hours before surgery I was told to stop the protein shakes. I immediately started feeling weak and had headaches from the lack of nutrition. It was the longest 2 days ever. After the surgery it was weird. I had some pain and nausea the first day or two but that went away thankfully. The weird part is I don’t really get hungry or thirsty. I’m eating soft foods now and can’t have more than a couple bites before I feel the fullness pressure. But I could absolutely not eat and be fine. I want to eat because I miss food, but physically I’m not getting signals that I need to eat. I’m also struggling with fluids because I can’t drink more than a small sip at a time so it takes a long to drink a single glass of water. Overall I’m doing well. I haven’t lost as much weight as I thought I would in the first few weeks but I’m not worried. I know my body is going through all the trauma of surgery and lack of calories that it’s got to work itself out. My clothes are fitting better though so I know something is happening.

    Food Before and After Photos

I don't think I've actually measured anything for years. I think the rice lesson is a good one because it's all about proportions. My bf's house has no measuring cups, so I make rice as one pint glass of rice, with two pint glasses of water, and eyeball salt 🤷‍♂️ I just looked online for the Shan spice mix I used to use regularly, but no joy . I'm much too lazy to make the drive to Little India, 10 miles away 😂
  14. Hi all. I have a couple questions about surgery. Are you completely naked during surgery? And also I am estimated to have my period on the exact date of my surgery which is 1/10. I was wondering how that goes. I am a shy person so I worry about these things. Any information will be appreciated. Thank you

    Syntrax Nectar Experts?

I love the fruity syntrax nectar flavors! Crystal sky, twisted cherry, roadside lemonade, and strawberry kiwi are my favorites. I like that they are just a flat 100 calories per scoop with water. They do foam up a bit after shaking but I usually let them settle for 5-10 minutes before I start drinking. I can't stand the milky protein shakes anymore since post op so I can't suggest those. I want to try the fuzzy navel one but it's always sold out! ☹️
  16. Hey all I seem to be vomiting up food after I try and eat anything solid , for example I tried a cheeseburger , ate 3 bites and vomited up the 3 bites. Is my stomach still ajusting to my sleeve ? For some reason I can eat crisps no problem cause they disintegrate into a small size I'm my mouth I also can eat fruit bananas or grapes but anything solid I seem to be getting sick Sent from my LE2123 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Eating carbs

try to keep carbs to a minimum... one slice of regular bread has a ton of carbs in it as well as rice... Remember we are suppose to be making better choices on our diets especially during the 1st year to get the most weightloss possible. There are low carb breads out there. This is the one i get. I was able to eat breads/carbs around month 2-3 ish but i kept it to a minimum. But yea if you are not doing well yet with bread. Then give it some more time to heal. if you want try taking a tiny bite, waiting say 5-10 minutes and taking another small bite and see how you do.
  18. why yes, yes i did! (but i had coffee lol). when i was a teenager, i worked in a british-themed bakery/cafe in an amusement park. they had a "tea time hour" and sold these babies by the truckload. i fell in love with them then. (that and steak & kidney pie! lol) and here you go!: Ingredients 3 cups all-purpose flour 3 tbsp sugar 1/2 tsp salt 4 tsp baking powder 1/2 tsp cream of tartar 3/4 cup FROZEN butter (grated) 1 egg, beaten 1.25 cup whole milk Instructions Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Combine the dry ingredients in a large bowl. Mix in the grated butter into flour mixture. Don't go too crazy here - you want to see small, pea-sized pieces of butter throughout the dough. Add in the milk and egg and mix just until the ingredients are combined. The dough will be sticky but don't keep working it. Turn the dough out onto a generously floured surface. Sprinkle some flour on to the top of dough so it won't stick to your fingers and knead 10-15 times. If the dough is super sticky just sprinkle on some additional flour. Pat the dough out to 3/4 - 1 inch thickness and cut with a biscuit cutter or glass (alternatively you can just drop large spoonfuls on the baking sheet) Place the biscuits on a lightly greased baking sheet or parchment lined baking sheet or silicone baking sheet and bake for 10 to 15 minutes or until golden brown on top. For extra yumminess, brush the tops of the biscuits with melted butter immediately after taking out of oven. Serve warm, its better!; or let cool and serve with fresh whipped cream and your choice of jam.

Looking for a November surgery pal

Hi everyone! Just had surgery on 11/10 and am in liquids until Wednesday. Overall I’ve just been very lethargic but wondering how long other peoples bloating and general swelling from the surgery last?

    VSG to DS coming soon!!

Hi everyone! I’m new here & wanted to see if anyone shares a surgery date with me. This upcoming Friday, November 18th, I’ll be having my sleeve to DS surgery & I’m so darn excited! I’ve been waiting almost 4 years for this surgery. I started in 2019 then Covid hit. Then life hit & everything was basically put on pause. I started the process again last year, but I was working so much that I didn’t take the time out to do what needed to be done for the surgery. Then I got Covid & lost 12lbs in a week. But, the weight came back once I was able to eat & taste good again. Lol…. So now, here I am with a surgery date. I think excited is an understatement! I only lost 30lbs with the sleeve. My weight the day of surgery was 266 (September 30, 2015). In 2016, my PCP put me on Adipex & Topomax. I got down to 210, but I started having issues with my stomach & couldn't tolerate them anyone so I stopped taking them. I’m currently at 232lbs & my surgeon (Dr Smith in Celebration, FL) said that I’ll probably get down to around 170- 180. I asked if it’s possible to get to 160- 165 & he said “It’s very possible”. I’ve prepared myself mentally as much as one could & I'm ready to get this weight off. I know the weight loss will be slower & it will take some time to get these 60lbs off, but I’m more determined than ever to do this! I’m already committed to taking numerous pills a day (meds & vitamins) & will also have to start doing some type of cardio, which is something I didn’t do with the sleeve. I’m looking forward to being able to share my “success” story with all of you! ☺️
  22. yeah, what @sillykitty said lol. These biscuits where crispy-ish on the outside and were supposed to be light and fluffy-ish on the inside (they normally are, i swear!)... but a combination of over-working the dough (i kneaded maybe 20-25 times instead of my normal 10-15), AND an over-floured surface i kneaded on contributed to its unintended dense-ness and lack of height. oopsies. but they were still delicious!!

    10 days Post Op

Hello I’m new to this forum definitely glad I found it. Sx date 11/1 got lucky someone cancelled. Had the most pain day 2-5 but now doing a little better. The main incision for me has been itching and a little hard but overall no complaints. I was previously use to just going to the store and picking up anything now I’m really reading labels . This is a life changing experience and journey and hope and pray that everyone gets through it and start to embracing this new healthy life style
  24. I used to weight myself every day... that was a huge mistake and a huge disappointment, now I only do it every 10-14 days, just to make sure I am staying on track. Like kcuster83 said, we all fluctuate, especially women, so don't stress yourself out. 70 pounds in 2 months is Awesome.
  25. I didn't have this with my RNY, but I DID have it with my second plastic surgery. The surgeon said it was likely a reaction to whatever tape or adhesive he used. He put me on prednisone for 10 days because it was too early to remove the tape (at 10 days out, it still got removed earlier than normal, but at least it was safe to do so at that point. And HE removed it, not me - he insisted he had to be the one to do it - not me and not my PCP)
