    Ouch!

I was banded on 5.22.12, had first fill om 6.13.12. The last few days ive been having stinging pain around my port, Im familiar with the pain that I had in the port area after surgery, however this pain occurs when I sit down, stand up, or twist a certain way. My thoughts are that is stinging pain is occuring for one of two reasons, but I am open to any reasons that any fellow bandsters may offer. My reasons are that maybe its because I have very little belly fat, or maybe because the the swelling that was in that area pretty much has disappeared over the past week. I will also add that most of my port pain was gone after week 2, and this pain is some what different its like someone is sticking u with a safety pin x 10.
  4. I was banded on 9/10/10 in Dallas,Tx. I am new to this journey. I had my first fill on 10/5/10. I start real food tomorrow. I am afraid I won't have any restriction. It seems as though I can eat most anything. I haven't had any problems so far. Just waiting for that restriction, getting a little frustrated. I have read it may take a week or so for restriction. Sounds strange to me, this I don't understand. You would think you would have restriction immediately or not at all. As I said, I am new at this and waiting for my next fill in 4 weeks:glare:
  5. Strenuous activity often leads to muscle soreness. Finding a way to reduce this unpleasant consequence of physical activity would would be beneficial. After weight loss surgery some of us discovered that we had muscles we didn't even realize we had, due to years of neglect. A team of Spanish researchers believes it has discovered a cocktail that reduces such discomfort. Their formula is a combination of watermelon and pomegranate juice enriched with citrulline and ellagitannins. The authors chose these ingredients because they are linked to beneficial metabolic effects and performance enhancement. For example, citrulline, a non-essential amino acid found in watermelon, helps reduce the accumulation of lactic acid, a major cause of muscle fatigue. Citrulline is also converted to nitric oxide, a chemical that increases blood flow and is believed to boost muscle performance. Pomegranates contain antioxidants and ellagitannins; the former help protect nitric oxide from being degraded, and the latter aids strength recovery. The scientists then recruited 19 young men, aged 18 to 30 with extensive experience in resistance training, into a double-blind randomized crossover study. They tested four different beverages: Watermelon juice (WJ); watermelon juice enriched with citrulline (CWJ); watermelon and pomegranate juice enriched with citrulline and ellagitannins (CWPJ); and placebo (sugary water with pink coloring). Each man consumed 200 mL (about 7 ounces) of one of the beverages at random, and then performed a physically intensive squat exercise. The researchers then collected blood samples and asked the volunteers to rate the muscle soreness of their legs on a scale from 1 to 5. After given a week to rest, the volunteers repeated the experiment with a different randomly selected beverage. This procedure was continued until every volunteer had consumed all four beverages. The results of the study showed that at three time points after the squat exercise (1-hour, 24-hour, and 48-hour), the watermelon/pomegranate cocktail (CWPJ) was significantly associated with reduced muscle soreness compared to placebo. In fact, by 48 hours, athletes reported no muscle soreness at all. Furthermore, when the volunteers drank the placebo, their blood tests revealed a higher concentration of myoglobin (a biomarker of muscle damage) than when they drank CWPJ. The cocktail, therefore, appeared to reduce muscle damage. http://www.acsh.org/news/2017/05/30/juice-cocktail-could-help-reduce-muscle-soreness-athletes-11354
  6. Hello everyone. My name is Iman and I just registered with this site today. I am a bandster and was banded on 10/30/2007. I have lost 107 pounds and went down 7 sizes. I hope to lose another 80 pounds to reach my goal weight. My surgeon is Dr Paul Guske of Suburban Surgical Care Specialists and they are out of Elk Grove/Arlington Heights/Hoffman Estates, Illinois. I'm a member of Bandbuddies on Yahoo and a member of ObesityHelp.com. I joined this site because I was interested in shake recipes. I get bored easily eating the same thing day in and day out. And even after a little over a year, I still get tight and need to consume protien shakes.
  7. well, my experience so far is. im now coming up 2 months post op. ive lost weight steadily the whole time. Ive found that i never had a time where there was no restriction. i did get hungry towards the time for my first fill but Ive consistently had issues with eating meat. Last wednesday i had my first fill. im now a week out from that, and its hard to eat a small serve of fish or read meat. Has anyone had this a week after being filled? the way it is right now , if this problem doesnt ease up i wont be getting any more fills. i have 3 ccs in a 10 cc band. im loving the way the weight is going. its steady as she goes . my energy levels are up and im enjoying life a lot more. I have to say though, im losing the enjoyment of food , and cooking is becoming a chore for me. i did read here where someone else was the same. How many of your are going through this?? not enjoying food and finding that cooking is a hassle??
  8. I am 10 days post op and I did 10 minutes on the elipticle and some very light weights. Even though it was a very light work out, it felt good.
  9. Now, having determined the generalities of this event, let's get to the subject at hand: for baby shower cards child. The organizer - which usually is the best friend of future honoree mom, although there are cases where it is her baby shower games mother, sister or even a bonus - will have to make first the guest list and then order the cards girl baby shower. Being the baby shower of a girl, the cards should be pink - although the cream is also acceptable, as to vary moderately - and of course with date, place and time of the baby shower in question. Also, the cards for baby shower girl must have some reason or allusive dibujito that child to be born. When carrying out organizing a baby shower, it looks like the card for baby shower girl will always be just one of the many edges to be caring for the event in question leave extremely perfect. But before proceeding to the description. Both baby showers from its generalities to its peculiarities are not well known outside their country of origin, already mentioned, is the United States. http://www.babyshowercakez.com/top-10-baby-shower-games-ideas/

I had my one month (5 weeks) doctors appt today. Lost 25 pounds since surgery (10/9). Everything is going good. Hope you all are good. I had a stall for like 5 days aroind week 3. I did not like that.
  11. I had RNY on March 15th. I lost 10 lbs during my pregnancy-op diet. At my two week check up, I had lost 20 lbs. Since then, I have only lost and additional 6 lbs. (it's been 24 days) it is too early for a stall? Has anyone else experienced a stall so early on?
  12. I just had the surgery on Dec 23rd and it says not to lift over 10-15 lbs for the first 6 weeks on mine. My port is up on my shoulder and not close to my abdomen. I have had no problems and it was much easier than i thought it would be. I have had no solid food for almost 4 days now and have not been hungry at all, even during Christmas dinner at my sisters.

    sickly

My doctor prescribe me METOCLOPRAM 10 MG FOR NAUSEA AND VOMITING generic for REGLAN. I only had real bad nausea after surgery but no vomiting. I can take one tablet every 6 hours if needed but I only take 1 in morning and 1 at night. Also right before surgery he told me to get some RANITIDINE 150 mg for acid to take 2 tablets day before surgery and 1 the morning of surgery with a sip of Water. Now I have been taking them every day 1 in morning and 1 at night It must be helping because the nausea has let up some and still no vomiting. I get the Ranitidine off the shelf at Wal-Mart in the antiacid isle. It is generic for Zantac I think and it is Equate walmart Brand cheap.

    late fill?

I was banded on 10/21 and didn't have my first fill until 1/14, almost 3 months post op. I go for #2 next week and I'll be 4 months post op. I think like with everything else, each doc is different. I wish I had one that could get me in every 2 to 3 weeks for a fill lol Still on the hunt for the sweet spot :-)

    making the lapband decision

Let me put some real talk on you honey. Everything the above poster said is a great summary! I am 21 days post op and frankly a littlle bewildrered, confused and a bit disappointed. It all depends on what your currently healthy and lifestyle is. Personally I think the band emotionally has been harder and especially since I didnt have bad eating habits before I got the band. I also worked out too. So with the band I was expecting a bit more I guess. I dunno if my metabolism just sucks or what, but I'm very discouraged. I didnt expect to lose 40lbs in a month or anything. Just a pound a week or something. I lost quickly before the surgery, but after only about 6 lbs then nothing since. It was Water weigh I assume. There is a serious lack of consistancy too with the nutrition, aftercare, and recovery per doctor. That I didnt know until I started posting on here. Yes, my hunger is curbed. If you have a problem with overeating then the lapband is for you. If you are wanting to use it as a tool to better eating habits and excersize then yes its for you. If you already work out and eat fairly well and expecting this to push your body a little and go to the next level then I dunno. It hasnt happened for me at least yet. Pre op I did south beach for 5 days, which is basically a low carb diet. The post op diet was a breeze IMO and didnt mind being on liquids but I was on liquids the 10 days then on to mushie food afterwards and now on solids. Your doctor may do things differently. gas pains after surgery was the worst part. They blow your stomach up with gas to move your organs outta the way so the band can be placed. The gas get strapped and felt like i had constant back pain and chest pain, but that lasted 5 days. The surgery itself was easy. So proceed with caution and think hard. Can you do this without the band? Are you very motivated? Or do you yo-yo diet a lot and overeat?

    How's everyone doing?

Hi everyone, I was looking on this site last night for recipes and found you guys. Actually I found Lisa under a food post. How you doing Lisa? I was suppose to talk to you that one afternoon at Dr. Fowler's office, but we lost each other in the shuffle. And how are you Miriam? I spoke with you at the September support group meeting. I think you were in our group when we split into groups. Your the one who wants to be able to sing again, yeah? Well it's good a bunch of us are all in one spot. I've been bouncing from support sites back and forth. I'm usually on ObesityHelp.com or Bandsters group on yahoo. I have found that this site has much more information, especially about FOOD.......lol :biggrin1:. Miriam, I think you and I are at about the same stage in the healing/eating phase as I was banded (final one) a day before you. My journey has been anything BUT normal as I had to be re-banded. I went in for the first banding on Weds., Sept. 26. After surgery and when I was up on the floor I got out of bed and started walking immediately. Dr. Fowler came up and was happy to see me walking so fast, but the news he had for me was a little upsetting. He said that my liver was one of the biggest he's seen yet and it was 5 times the size that it was suppose to be. He said I'm lucky that I decided to have this procedure when I did or 5-10 years down the road I'd be in big trouble. He said my liver didn't like the food choices I was making and then he said that he put on the "medium" band and that it was VERY tight and that I'd be lucky if I could swallow my own spit. Boy was he right!!!!!! I think he meant it as a euphemism and not to be taken seriously. All night I kept spitting into that pink emesis bowl. The next morning I went down with the lady next to me to get the swallow test and came back up to the room with a thumbs DOWN. Jennifer came up to my room and told me basically that I was swollen shut and I had to try to wait it out for the swelling to go down. Talk about totally BUMMED. To make a long story short, we waited day after day until Dr. Fowler realized that the swelling wasn't going to go down and that the band needed to be replaced with a larger size. He tried to get an anesthesiologist to do it on Sunday, but his friend was off island. When he said there wasn't going to be surgery on Sunday, I asked him if I could please try to drink some broth or tea and he said sure. I think it was more of like a "knock yourself out trying but nothing's going to stay down." Finally on Monday we headed back into the operating room. One good thing about being re-banded is that I got the new AP band that I wanted.....yippeee. You have no idea how hard it was being in the hospital from Weds. to Tues. and 5 of those days being hooked up to liquid nutrition (IV). I had such a hard time trying to sleep in there too because every 4 hours was glucose stick time, every 5 hours was vital signs and every 6 hours was the "bruising" heparin shot. It seemed that every time I turned the TV on, I was inundated with fast food commercials. The Taco Bell cheesy melt was a KILLER. I don't know how the rest of you ladies felt about the hospital, but I hope I never, ever have to be admitted to there again. While the nurses/aides were extremely nice, they (most) were not well versed in taking care of bariatric patients at all. I even explained to a few of them what it was that I actually had done. There was also on at least 3 occasions when they brought me food trays and I had to tell them that I was NPO and couldn't have anything to eat. The one aide said, "Oh your so honest." They finally put a sign above my bed on FRIDAY saying NPO so the others would know. Two different times I had to ask if my heparin was discontinued and they came back with my shot and told me, "thanks for reminding me." Geeeez, they sure have a long way to go if they're trying to become a Bariatric Center for Excellence. Well, that's my saga so far. How is everyone doing on foods? I keep reading my materials from Mary and at times am confused on what I'm suppose to be eating. One handout says at week 2 full liquids and another at week 2 says pureed foods. Thank heavens for this support site to find out what I'm suppose to be eating. I made this recipe for black bean Soup I found on here and it's really good. I feel I could eat the whole batch I made. I think the only time I've felt full so far is when I ate some cream of wheat in which I kept diluting it until it made I swear 2 cups. Sorry the post is so long. Hope to hear from you guys.

    Dizzy Spells

I had the same issue. I ended up passing out and hitting my head which resulted in 10 staples. Needless to say it was not pleasant. My blood pressure was low by the time I was seen in the ER (5 hours later) but that's normal for me. I believe it was dehydration, as soon as I got the IV fluids I felt like a million bucks. I am so diligent about getting enough water now.
  21. Well Aetna denied me not enough details, even though I had been going to my PCP monthly since July 8, Nutritionist every 2 weeks, walk the treadmill, and go to curves 2 days a week. I have lost 19 pounds so far!!! Really frustrated don't know what to do? What I was missing it my 3 month detailed report from the Doctor, I guess they sent July 8 but than only sent nutritionist report. I called Aetna and got a their fax appeal number and my dr is going to submit all the paperwork that was forgotten. Has anyone gone through this process and how long does appeal take?
  22. I live in Henderson but like 10 minutes away from Las Vegas. I have not yet received the gb yet. Still need support and mentoring. I will give the same. I don't think location matters much as it's just chat but it would be nice to find local people.

    Eating Out

The truth is you can not eat 10/20 dollars worth of food, a cup of food is your limit. You can make good choices on a buffet , you can eat slow, and enjoy your friends but unless they are serving lobster you can not get your $$ worth. I just do not go to buffets very often, but I did happen to go to one Friday night I had my favorite food LAPBAND CRACK , mashed potaoes and gravy yum... I picked at the steak, fish and a rib.. and I indulged in a shared cotton candy. When we left I suggested a walk through town and everyone said Yes because they ate way to much and were stuffed even the skinny ones some things are priceless.

    Eating Out

I only go to buffets when I'm going with friends, because it is a big waste of money. That being said, though, I always pull out my lapband card that says I've had weight loss surgery and to please let me order a child's portion. I haven't been turned down yet. I feel a lot better about wasting $5 or $6 than $10 or $12!
