  2. So, update as this Thursday is 1-month post-op. As it turns out I was prepared for the sleeve surgery but mine was very different. I know that everyone's experience is different, here is mine. I woke up in quite a bit of pain and was a little surprised because a lot of people say their MGB didn't hurt but mine did. I got my walking in and slept, handled the sips of water at first and then the jello okay. I couldn't finish a whole cup but still good. Recovery was okay for the most part, but I didn't take it easy as I got home and was cooking dinner every day for 10 days straight. At exactly 10 days post op I began to feel a bad stitch of pain on my left side behind where the drain had been. At this point my wounds are closing well. I notice that it hurt if I laid on my back and tried to bend at all to my left but also if I turned to the right it felt like a rock was on my side. Long story short I took to Facebook and learned that it was common, and people referred to it as the b***h stitch, so I ignored it. The pain got so bad that I just couldn't, I went to see my doctor and turns out it's an infection. 🤦‍♀️ So he put me on a strong antibiotic and now here I am, nearing my 1 month post op and still feeling pain but it is definitely more manageable. Everyday is better and better. I have a lot of restriction and am just learning my body's was of saying enough. My HW 286, SW 274, CW 250 I am very optimistic that this was the way to go but complications happen unfortunately.

    Questions about MMJ use.

It CAN make you hungry--I find that it tends to affect me in spells, I'll get the munchies with a vengeance for a week or so then it won't feel like it affects me at all (could be different strains, I live in a state where the "real stuff" is illegal so it's Delta 8, Delta 10, HHC, etc...Delta 10 seems like it gives me the munchies the worst so I avoid it. HHC seems like it's the least "munchie-genic"...since you live in a state where you're going to a real dispensary I would ask advice about what might help your symptoms and give you the least munchies.) I use it recreationally and for sleep...I've taken pretty much every prescription sleep aid out there and MJ has WAY less side effects and doesn't make me feel like I got hit by a truck when I wake up.
  4. there are many reasons for the elevation.. if it’s only 10 (mine is normally 13-15) you could have had a small infection or your body prevented you from getting sick.. just watch for trend in your overall bloodwork
  5. Yes . It is harder then I thought it would be to change that habit of late night eating. So I now have resolved myself to saving about 200 calories to my late night snacking. I have also returned to making sugar free jello and having that as a snack or having a banana . I have also reduced my portions to 250- 300 g . It was eating puree just so I could eat larger portions. While also not pureeing my foods anymore. It is helping and starting to embrace and modify my old habit. Work with it and not let it become my burdin. Also this week I am now back to loosing weight again. I'm entering my 10 week post op. Pre op 2 week before 265bls Surgery day 250 lbs Current weight 225 lbs That's 40 lbs. In 21/2 months and I am happy and healthier and looking forward to continue on my journey to better health and weight loss .
  6. Hi, I’m new here 😃. My name is Jennifer, and I’m getting sleeved on 12/19/2022. I’m excited and terrified especially after the results from some of my labs. Good luck to you!

    November 2022 surgery support!

Hey girl! Stay hydrated! Stay on top of your fluids, Anxiety could’ve boosted that heart rate pretty quickly. It’s a life long change. Don’t beat yourself up, stay focused and aim for the prize of better health. I’m 4 days post op of bypass. I initially felt terrrrible but I’m keeping up on fluids and walking. I came home 10 lbs heavier from the gas and fluids too, this morning I’m down again to my preop. Do your best and focus. Mind over matter. You got this. Take your time and let your body adjust, we made some big changes!
  9. Looking for folks to follow and build with who are o a similar surgery timeline. I’m getting the sleeve on December 5. Let me know if you’d scheduled similarly and would like to share experiences and support here. Please feel free to introduce yourself in the comments. I’ve included my own intro below. ABOUT ME: I’m Sarah, a 40yo woman from nyc. I have a senior level professional job as a consultant and work from home most days of the week. I hate failing and I think that’s why weight has been such a hindrance for me, it’s feels like a personal failure. Im pretty active and close my Apple Watch rings most days. I love to swim and do swim laps 30-60 minutes/day - 4-5/days a week. Outside of swimming I love to read, wander the hiking trails in Central Park, volunteer for campaigns and causes I care about, writing, and travel anywhere are everywhere in spite of dreaded airline seats :) My WLS decision: I’ve been overweight most of my life but for a few years after a prior 120lb weight loss associated with disordered eating about 10 years ago. Needless to say most of that weight was gained back in recovery and then some yo-yoing down 50 and up 60 every other year to follow. I imagine many of you can relate to this story. Though I’ve thought about wls surgery for sometime my blood panels and other levels were still in healthy range only my weight was an outlier. But then COVID came and especially terrified me - I was scared if I caught it I would be at risk to lose my life. I made efforts on my own to lose weight and like past attempts I shed 50lbs and was really good for 6 months but then something happens at work and I prioritize that above myself and before I know it I’ve gains it back. This last year I found myself of the gain side of the yo-yo and for the first time being afraid to sit in some chairs, after break a plastic deck chair. I noticed I was keeping myself in bc I was disgusted with myself, holding myself back from dating, from living, and carrying myself with little confidence, with little to look forward to. The tipping point: I went to my nieces dance recital and could barely squeeze into the auditorium seat. I needed to make a permanent change. Two months later I had my first consult for surgery and here I am ready Dec 5 surgery.
  10. I think therapy will definitely be an important supportive service I should layer on after surgery. Similarly I lost a lot of weight about 10 years ago and my goal is to be about 15 lbs less than that, I was single then as I am now and I think that my experiences then was where some of this is stemming from.
  11. I reached onederland today! I haven't been here in years. HW: 245. SW: 220. CW: 199. GW: 150. RnY 10/18/22. 52-years old. 5'6" tall.
  12. I was diagnosed with leukocytosis about 10 years ago. It just is what it is. As long as everything is ok, I wouldn't worry too much. One of my MS meds actually lowers WBC, so now I'm almost in the normal range lol

    3 days out

it's probably the IV fluid. It's basically salt water, which some people retain for a few days. I've heard of people "gaining" up to 10 lbs while in the hospital! Give it a few more days - should be all out of your system by then.

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

I had the sleeve surgery yesterday. I feel great. The esophagus spasms have been the worst part. Prior to surgery I had lost 36 pounds, 10 inches and 4% body fat. Y’all keep going. It will be worth it!

    I’m back / Cold Feet

I started pondering this surgery about 10 years ago. There were many things that factored into when I eventually was able to have it and make it to the other side. Nothing wrong with taking your time. It's understandable that you would have second-thoughts. That's normal. Maybe you could pinpoint some of the reasons your hesitant? It sounds like you have health reasons that would indicate a change... but what are the concerns that run through your head?

    August surgery buddies!

You've still lost 40 pounds, which is a lot. I did feel a bit bad, reading all the posts here from people who have lost 40+ and 50+ pounds, when I've only lost 36. Still, I've never lost more than 10-15 pounds in the last ten years or more, and always ended up gaining them back. Normally, I'd lose the 10 pounds or so in a few weeks, then stall no matter what I did, and then regain. Sometimes slowly, sometimes more quickly. Sometimes I'd manage to keep 10 pounds off for a while, but it always ended the same way. So, in that context, 36 is not too shabby. I hope I too will get to the 40+ pounds lost soon, maybe even this year.

    December surgery

Met with the surgeon for the final time prior to surgery on Dec 5th. I start liquid diet 10 days prior. SO I will be enjoying a small slice of pecan pie in Thursday. The liquid side consists of a combination of Soups (tomato & cream of types) thinned. broth , Protein Shakes, assorted sugar free jellos (like the green), popsicles, pudding and yogurts and such. The only admonishment is Clear Liquids the day before surgery. It will be the same diet after surgery until advised to proceed to the next step. Obviously this is my teams directions, Your team will probably have their own requirements. Best bet is to follow them. After all, that's why we're paying them the big bucks. Well wishes and prayers to all.

    Drinking Water

The way I found my "limit" was to start with 1 sip from a 1 ounce cup every 15 minutes. See how your body tolerates it. If it tolerates it well, then move to 1 sip every 14 minutes, then 13, and so on and so forth. It is a process but you will find your limit within a day or two. One of the one ounce cups should probably take you 2-3 sips to get through, although everyone is different so test that out. If you feel a new pain after your sip, stop and let it fully go away before taking another sip. I think these steps should help anyone with their water intake. Using those steps I was able to find my limit, then I would gradually increase it to my comfort level. I'm just about 3 weeks post op and I'm able to drink about 10-12 ounces an hour or so. It's really important you listen to your body though. The good thing is, as of week 4 your stomach should be healed up and your chance of it bursting/popping is significantly reduced at this point.

    November 2022 surgery support!

Hello all, had Gastric Bypass on 11/14 and so far it has been way easier and less painful than expected. The only thing is I put on 10 pounds over night from when I was weighed before surgery and when I got home the next day. I’m SLOWLY losing that water weight… but still 4 pounds higher than when I went in. but I’m walking, drinking well, getting tired of protein shakes… would kill for some grilled salmon or even cottage cheese! fortunately, my appetite is under control so when my son eats his meals, I’m not (too) jealous!

    November 2022 surgery support!

10 days until surgery! Gastric sleeve. Been on pre-op diet for four days now. Excited, and anxious. Mostly excited about the long term outcome. Finally taking control .... wish I had done this years ago!
  24. this is part two… part one brought me to surgery with my weight loss adventure .. (quick warning, i tried not to be graphic but an infection is referenced) now I am someone who weighs almost every day for several months but i have trained my brain to be chill about the number… just watch for trends because bodies are sometimes heavier for non fat related reasons… i have seen my body go up, down and drop drastically and rise rapidly all while loosing weight as a trend… now i am in my early post op and start with my surgery weight of 351.4 on 11/3/22 sat, 11/5/2022 - day 2 post op after first night home - i dropped to 349.4 - considering swelling and fluids I was satisfied because I thought that I would have been up.. sun, 11/6 - 348.4 - spent lots of time walking in my yard gathering pecans with my picker upper stick for a few days - more than 5 gallons worth mon, 11/7 - 347.6 struggling with fluids, slight pull feeing while sitting and standing but otherwise good! tues, 11/8 - 349.2 - more sore but not really in pain.. i attributed this to walking a bit much the day before and trying to get more fluids… tried to power through and keep being as active as i could… (today i also had bathroom success lol) Wednesday, 11/9 - 349.2 - incision area hurting more and thought that I truly overdid it and took a lazy day… mild temp of barely 99 Thursday 11/10 - 347 - more pain in big incision area and it was warmer, mild fever 99.8 degrees- still blaming myself for pushing myself to be so active post op. took a super lazy day (even made someone get a birthday cake for my son who turned 19) friday 11/11 - 345.4 - something was wrong. pain was so much worse getting up and down and even sometimes moving. temp went to 100.8 in morning and i was feeing off. called dr and waited for call back. incision area looked ok but felt warm and kinda harder than it did.. not much redness… by 1 pm temp spiked to 101.7 even with tylenol. called again to dr and said something was wrong … they called in antibiotics and made appt for monday to see how i would respond. 11/11 - trip to town going to antibiotics- my husband drove .. we went into aldi to pick up a couple items before going to kroger to get meds and another grocery order ( we were feeding guests on saturday playing a game) and i actually have little memory or the store trip just bits and pieces … i told my husband i had a big problem and my pants were wet.... my infection, well, ruptured while in store.. we went to kroger to get antibiotics where i took one in the parking lot then i fell asleep immediately in the car for the ride home (unusual).. when finally hope after another stop i slept through, i groggily made my way in the house, cleaned myself up with hibclens and stumbled into bed without bandaging my still seeping wound and wrapped up shivering … and immediately went back to sleep… my mom called an hour or two later and i answers on my watch.. groggy and not very coherent.. hard to love, hard to talk, slurring words.. she called my husband who was doing another errand and he eventually came home and checked on me .. i was not medicated as he thought and still seeping a lot and he bundled me up and brought me to the er despite my slurring attempts to protest that i was perfectly fine and just wanted to sleep.. the er had a full waiting room, but when the staff talked to me and saw the state of the towel against my incision area - i was not only taken back but in a room immediately… my bad veins were acting up.. 7 different iv attempts and had to get an arterial pull for blood.. multiple bags of fluid, potassium iv, multiple antibiotics, a ct with contrast, .. in other words a long long night.. 11/12 - 7 am my surgeon came to er and i was more coherent than most of the night… i had a large infection and was a little dehydrated … but with the treatment already received and the iv antibiotics combined with oral, he thought i would be ok and i could go home with a bandages wound and see him monday morning. i slept for a few hours when i got home, then woke up sore and still hurting some but better than i had felt in a few days. bandages changed every couple hours due to drainage. when i got home before 9 am i weighed myself out of curiosity and i was 352. it made me laugh because they really did pump me full of fluids!! every day after got better. less pain, discharge stopped monday and slowly the fluids started to come off. i am now 17 days post op and i am down to 335.6 for the second day in a row. might be that famous 3 week stall early. but i am fine with that because it usually means good healing is finally taking place and the scale with catch up eventually. i can move better than pre surgery and 100% better than six months or a year ago. my stamina still sucks but is improving even with the infection (two types of streptococcal bacteria) I am doing good and on my way to the life that i keep telling myself I deserve to live. i want to make plans and do things for the first time in a few years. i am no longer afraid to go to a store because it hurt my back so badly and turned my face from pale white to tomato red due to the physical effort… i can actually go in without the immediate pain! so far even with the setback this is one of the best things i ever did for me
  25. It's great that you are experiencing so many health benefits and that you are content. That is the goal for all of us, or at least most of us. Hopefully, that woman you saw is experiencing health benefits, too. And it varies how much people focus on their looks. If she's happy and healthy, that's great too. A friend of mine was pretty negative when I told her I was going to have gastric sleeve, because she has another friend who had weight loss surgery a few years back, and to my friend that woman looked similar to what you are describing. But, that woman was feeling better and was happy with that, which is the most important part. I'm not anywhere near my goal weight, and I'd be disappointed if my weight loss stopped here. I have been able to stop taking medication for high blood sugar, but I want to be able to stop at least one of my two blood pressure meds and get below obesity weight into the "overweight" category. If I end up 10-20 pounds above ideal weight, that's not a big deal to me. But we all have to find our own goals and our way to health. I'd rather be healthy, and if I will be saggy or whatever I'm not averse to plastic surgery if needed.
