    NSV + stupid comment

I teach high school. This is the spring. I teach high school. We've had a full moon. I teach high school. We have TAKS (state mandated standardized testing) next week. I teach high school. OK, so now that we've gotten the basics out of the way... After school today a very well-meaning co-worker asked me what size I have gotten down to. I tell her a 12 and she responds with "Back when I was chubbier, I got this dress that I only wore once that is a size 12. It is just sitting in my closet and I'll never wear it again. I just wanted to offer it to you if you'd like it." GEEZ!!! I've lost 65 pounds and dropped from a size 20 to a 12 and you want to start off with "back when I was chubbier" in reference to a size 12?!?!?! Come on people, THINK before you speak!!! Not 10 minutes later, a senior boy (who I've never taught) stops me as I am walking by his table and says "Mrs. Huebotter, I just wanted to tell you, you look amazing!". At this point, I am shocked and just stop and look at him. As I realized he is starting to get embarrassed, I have to check myself to say "thank you, I've been working really hard at it." He responds with "I can tell." Sometimes God knows what we need right when we need it. I sure needed an "amazing!"

That's both frustrating and sweet, respectively. Am so glad you had the sweet part after the annoying, to bring you back up!! Offering size 12 as her "chubbie" clothing to you? First, how rude to tie those three things together (size 12 as "chubbie", ignoring your great progress, and offering her hand-me-downs -which if it weren't for the other two I'd say was a nice gesture, but in this case is not). Second, geez, size 12 is the size I'm trying to get back down to! lol! Even when I was underweight, size 10 was as small as my jeans ever got because even when it's just muscle I have a big booty. I would/will be holding a celebration to be as thin as a size 12 again! Focus on the sweetness of the compliment and forget her, you deserve the congratulations!!!

    Almost There

I don't think you are unrealistic about Nov. 1. My last 6 month appt was Sept. 10. I had my lap band instruction class on Sept. 16. ( I was able to schedule this once I was complete with my last 6 month visit). The Dr.'s office called on Sept 19 and told me I was approved and gave me a surgery date of Oct. 10. Good luck. I hope it goes quick for you.
  6. I'm a long, long time lurker, love how you help each other and maybe me. I've had my band 4 years. Made my goal, and have lost 10 pounds more. Had a fill in Jan. 08, but by August saw my weight was starting to creep up (6 pounds) and had a fill (total of 5 in 4 years). Now I feel my band is perfect, except for one little problem. At night, after being asleep for 5 or 6 hours (around 3 AM usually after going to bed at 10 PM) I have stomach juice slipping up into my mouth, wakes me up, I cough, spit, go back to sleep and then a few hours later, do it again. I've tried not drinking fluids after 7, not eating after 7, drinking tea or hot water before bed, tums, and nothing seems to work well. I know I could call the DR and get an unfil for $140, but to be honest, this level seems to work well --weight is back off, not hungry, everything else is fine. Any idea on how to stop the nightly ooze??
  7. Hello everyone. I am new to this site and to the lap band system. I have an appointment to attend a seminar this Tuesday. I am 33 years old, have been married for 10 years, have a wonderful husband and great kids. I am about 5'6 and am 255 which is higher than I have ever been ( even while pregnant). I have hypertension, had gestational diabetes with both children, and have a herniated disc in my back. I have struggled with weight my entire life and am excited about lap band and this site! My surgeon will be Dr. V. Prachand at the University of Chicago Hospitals which have an excellent reputation. I have United Health care insurance that will cover the procedure at 100% thank God! I do have a question though, What should I expect at the seminar?

    Surgery Scheduled

Hi, This is my 7th day on Protein shakes Pre-Op diet. The first two days are the hardest. My stomach complained so loud. But now things are quiet again. I got enough protein in per day that I'm not hungry at all. Can you have anything else in addition to opti-fast? My doctor just told me to get 60+g or protein, 20 or les of Fat, and 10 g or less of Sugar per day. After 2 days of EAS Protein Shakes, I got so sick of sweet shakes, so I called up my doctor and asked if I can eat clear broth. The nurse said yes. So I got some chicken broth, add Protein powder (while it still cool). heat it up, a dash of salt and pepper. And It was yummy! My nurse also lets me have Jello (Fat free sugar free kind). So I add protein powder to that and eat about a cup of jello a day. 1 Cup of FF/SF jello came out to be 20 calories and 2g of protein. With Protein powder it's adding 55 calories, 1g Fat, 13g protein, 1g sugar. Also, check out the Special K protein Water. Get the powder kind and add them to your water. I take about 2 pack of those a day, 60 calories, total of 10g protein. So far I lost 7 lbs. And my Blood sugar went from 167 to 104 this morning.... good luck to ya!!! *I'm also self-pay. I'm getting banded next week~!! Woo hoo!!
  9. Thanks everyone. All of my pills are capsules though so I'm not able to crush or split them. Maybe I'll try take one at a time and waiting 10 or so minutes in between. Glad its not just me!

    Surgery Tomorrow June 1

Good luck tomorrow. I know what you mean about being thirsty. I was told to be at the hospital at 10:00. They did not take me back to surgery until around 1:30. I was glad they did let me have some ice chips that evening but the nausea was so bad that I didn't even want to eat them. I hope things go smooth keep us posted. Chap stick or some sort of lip balm is a good idea.
  11. Hey guys, I am new to this site and to the idea of surgery. I am looking into a lap band and i think i want to do i t, but i need support.I am 19 and I am tentatively planning for surgery in December. I just want to know about people my age who have done what I am trying to do. I am worried about excess skin. If I go through ALL this and still have to hide Im going to be pissed lol I am tired of dressing around insecurities and really just want to move on with my life. What advise do you have? How successful have you guys been? What is something you guys wish you knew before surgery.

    Nov 11th - any suggestions

Its a diet that the docs have you go on, anywhere from two weeks to three days before surgery, they usually tell you about it, but do be afraid to ask. My docs requirement was a two week liquid diet and lose 10 lbs before my surgery date.
  15. My doc says no caffeine ever pre-op/post-op. The # 1 reason I have been given is that it can contribute to ulcers. Other reasons I have been given is that it functions as a diuretic and after WLS it is very important to stay hydrated. I have also been told that caffiene can stimulate the appetite. I was a heavy coffee drinker -- 1st cup at 5:30 am and drank straight through unil about 3:00 pm daily. Probably had about 10 cups a day on most days. I started to wean myself off by setting a # of cups of regular coffee. I allowed myself 3-4 cups a day. I did that for a week or so. Then for a couple of weeks I drank 1/2 caf. Finally, I move to straight decaf. It was rough, that's for sure. I had headaches for about the 1st week after I went totally decaf.

    in need of advise

For me, the envasive nature of the other options amde this MY only option. I was banded last week and have been up and walking around since day one. This is completely reversable, which also appealed to me. It has been used in Europe for about 10 years with reduced side effects over the other surgeries and reduced side effects with the newer bands over the ones they originally used. There is a TON of great information on this site - every subject that you could imagine and tons that I am sure you couldn't imagine. start reading through old threads, ask any questions - the support here has been great. By the time that I went in for my first appointment, I already had so many of my questions answered from lurking here. Good luck and I know you will make the right decision for you!

    Money Grab

Hmmmm...I need him at the moment..lol If he doesn't give me the go ahead after this next test, it is going to get ugly and fast! I have an appt with my surgeon and the last appt with my NUT on 10/2 and then I'm to be scheduled for surgery shortly thereafter. So, he has one week to get her done..or it's going to be WWIII!
  18. There's a very good possibility that I may be on my period the day of surgery. Only 10 days left. Does anyone know if this is a reason for surgeons to reschedule?

    Tracking App

I love my fit bit. It is such a motivator. I earn " badges " as I complete certain levels. It updates my data via wifi to give me weekly stats on my computer. I also have my fitbit scale tied to this program. It is tracking my weight losses each time I weigh myself. Got my first 10# loss badge today! It presents a visual scale for steps, weight, etc. I don't track food cuz I am so limited right now having just had my surgery. I may update and activate that section later on.
  20. Need some help on what to do to insure acceptance, from someone who has already recieved approval from them. I'm scheduled to go to a Free Info night at Lehigh Valley Hospital on July 10 to get started. Any info on what to do would be appreciated. Thanks.

    What am I doing wrong?

I had surgery on March 10, 2014. I have lost 17 pounds since I started this journey. Part of which was from the liquid diet before the surgery. I can feel restriction, so I don't think I'm overeating, but I've been at a the same weight for a month now. I am very discouraged. I walked two miles yesterday. i just don't get it. i have not got this figured out yet. i had this surgery so I would not have to worry about dieting any longer, yet here I am worrying again about food! I will take any advice offered. Thanks, Mississippi Girl
  25. My doctor doesn't make us do the liquid diet before surgery. He says he's had the same results with the first stage of the South Beach Diet. So, he requires his patients to do that 7-10 days prior to surgery. He did say that if you come back for surgery and haven't lost any weight then he won't give you the lap band. Because he said EVERYBODY loses at least SOME weight doing that properly for 7-10 days and if you come back the same weight then that means you didn't do it properly and he won't perform it. So, he didn't give a strict amount, but I'm guessing most people lose about 10 pounds on that diet.
