    March 23 buddies yet?

I had the bypass on 3/16 and have only lost 16 total. From what I've seen, that's technically low-average for bypass patients with a 300 lb starting weight. I don't really care though because I know it'll come off. I'm meeting my protein and water goals and walking 1-2 miles per day. Something's gotta give, you know? I think a lot of us are just primed to hold onto weight until the bottom gives out. But I will say the non-scale victories are something to celebrate! I can sleep through the night now, my high BP has reversed, no more GERD to manage. Hopefully you have some nsv's to look forward to. I made a list of 15 things I look forward to from this surgery that can't be 'found' on a number on a scale. I made the list for this exact scenario - when you feel like you've stalled or get discouraged. If you don't have one, I definitely recommend making one. Hopefully that helps!

    Post op Upset stomach

I'm 5 days PO from gastric bypass and hernia repair and really struggling with fluids. Day before yesterday, I was doing ok but not meeting goal due to sleeping a lot still. Yesterday, I had diluted grape juice and strained vegetable soup broth. I developed bad heartburn, experienced foamies for the first time along with belching and runny nose. Unfortunately, the heartburn was bad at night despite the bed being elevated. I think the juice and broth were too acidic. But even today, I'm getting the foamies and a feeling like a knot in my esophagus (pain in the upper back in the same spot) after drinking plain water. Miserable at the moment and praying it gets better. Do you think this is just swelling and inflammation or something more? I have a visit with the dietician tomorrow. Thanks in advance.
  3. Yup I'm the same i had bypass 3 weeks plus 3 days. Down 13kg. Itl prob slow down now, When body rightifies itself. ..... Sent from my SM-A515F using BariatricPal mobile app
  4. 74lbs in 3 months is excellent. I lost MUCH slower than that. You can absolutely make a weight of 180lbs a reality. I never thought I'd ever weigh in the 60s (kilograms), yet here I am and still losing. Stick to your plan and it will happen! As for what you're doing, so long as your team are on board and you're managing it well, then there should be no issues. Just be mindful that muscle weighs more than fat, so get out the measuring tape as a secondary indicator that you're losing, otherwise the scales may trick you into thinking you're not doing as well as you are! I personally love my mini bypass/omega loop, and could not be happier with my choice. It's a more common procedure in my country, but yes, on here we're a tiny group!
  5. I had a mini gastric bypass surgery exactly 3 months back. Since there didn't seem much activity on specific forum for mini gastric bypass (as it isn't common in US), so I thought i would put it in regular bypass forum. Starting weight: 326 lbs Current weight (exactly 3 months post Op): 252 lbs making total weight loss of around 74 lbs. Diet: Currently taking 1000 (or maybe 1100 at times) calories. Protein rich diet with around 70 to 80g of daily protein and low carb. 3 meals and in-between I take protein shake, pure coconut water (around 500 ml a day) and sometimes raw Tofu once or twice in day if I feel hungry. I use weighing scale to make sure I know how much I eat. Workout: 4 to 5 miles of walk daily. Gym of 7 to 8 hours total every week. Main focus on HIIT and weights, and includes 2.5 hour of cardio. I have felt since I started gym, my body feels more leaner and in shape but appetite has slightly gone up. Like maybe 3 extra tablespoon of Quinoa. But what do you guys think of my progress? Any red flags or caution? As now is the time to correct things if something is wrong. Do you think a weight of 180 lbs is something achievable for me? Thanks a lot.

    How long to see improvement?

I had the bypass with hiatal hernia repair and the pain reduced after about a week. The energy was lacking for a couple of weeks.
  8. I had this problem. I was unbanded 1.5 years ago and gained 150 pounds in that time. I ate very little and still gained weight. The nutritionist said it was too little and I was essentially starving my body so when I did eat, I essentially holding on to every calorie. I started the liquid diet 3/11 and have to have optifast 5 times a day plus a meal and I've alresdy lost 16 pounds. I agree with the person who said it's not about how much. It's what and when you eat that matters. Trust the process. I will have gastric bypass on April 13th.

    March 23 buddies yet?

Heyyy I just did my revision with a hernia repair and I redid my sleeve instead of bypass. Im finding that my reflux is way worse this time than before. I'm thinking I may have to get the bypass too as well. I really don't want to get another surgery but this burning is not responding to meds. I'm vomiting from it.now. Just all around discomfort. Hair loss

I had my surgery in November and my hair loss is really starting. I’ve been taking a hair skin and nails vitamin in addition to my regular ones but I just started using the Nioxin set. I figured it can’t hurt and it’s supposed to be pretty helpful and they have color safe options. It’s $55 for the set at Ulta/Amazon but my hairdresser sold it to me what she buys it for ~$25.
  13. I had gastric bypass March 7th and I’ve lost 17lbs first 2 weeks. I haven’t  had any weightloss for 2 weeks now. Is that normal? Am I doing something wrong? Any one else went through this?

    How long to see improvement?

3 Days is still fresh wounds, you're going to feel rough after major surgery like this. It took a good two weeks for my bypass + hernia repair to feel comfortable again. You have to be patient and give your body the rest it needs to repair itself.
  15. For those of you who had gastric bypass and hiatal hernia repair, how long did it take for the pain to improve to a level you weren't exhausted or needing stronger pain meds? I'm on day 3 post-op. I can feel things improving little by little but still really painful to walk around any longer than 10 minutes. I know to be patient, but of course still anxious to be in the world of the living again. 😅 Thanks in advance!
  16. So I'll be 6 weeks post op on Sunday (bypass) and I still feel awful and I wish I hadn't spent every penny I own doing this to myself! I feel sick every day nearly all day and it's better lying down but how am I supposed to work or make dinner when activity makes me feel really sick and my family comment that I even lose all my colour in my face when I have to go lie down Food is just...rubbish? Nothing tastes great anymore and I don't feel like eating anything and even then the weight loss has slowed dramatically i managed to lose 1 pound in a week of barely eating, I'm constantly burping as well (as soon as I woke up today) I still have an upset stomach nearly every day, ive been pretty good about actually being sick and although I constantly feel it I've only got to retching 4 times (can anyone else not vomit even when your retching and gagging?!) I guess I'm just feeling low and upset and wondering if I'll ever feel human again, apologies for the bad attitude I'm crying even doing this and I just hate how I feel. I guess I thought I'd be feeling better by now Sam
  17. Thank you for that information. I'm having nonstop stomach discomfort. Gastroenterologist prescribed me dicyclomine for stomach pain it helps a bit, not a lot. My last endoscopy he did he was confused to as why everything inside of me wasn't were it was supposed to be. My stomach has moved to the other side. I was very confused by this. I'm pretty sure that's because of the gastric bypass right?? I just don't know anymore but I can't handle these post complications with this surgery at all. It's running my life
  18. Less than a week before gastric bypass surgery. I'm nervous but excited. Been lurking here for a while, reading. I'm about ready as I'm going to get. Down 20 pounds in 3 months. A ton of pre op testing done and cleared. Food/drinks, chewable vitamins, protein, meds bought. On 2-week preop diet now which includes 2 protein shakes a day along with 3 ounces lean protein and 2 1/2 C.  non starchy veggies and is totally do able for me. Clear liquid day before surgery. A full sugar Gatorade night before  and again 2 hrs before arriving at the hospital. Interesting how different everyone's diets are depending on your doctor.

    I'm optimistic all will go well. Good luck to the April surgeries happening this month and to all that are going through the process.  {{hugs}}

  19. I am 11 years out of Bypass surgery as well. And yes I have had many complications and struggles as well. My mind set going in was I would do exactly what my surgeon told me to the T. No if and are buts. I guess me being a retired Military Guy we tend to do those things. Well my 1st 8 months went perfect. I went from over 300lbs to 190. Feeling like a million bucks. Woke up one day with intense paid in my abdomen and off to the ER. Internal Hernia. My intestines poked thought the sac that holds them. Well 2 months later another. Im still losing weight following directions. Another 5 months had another repaired. Well in 2016 all heck breaks loose and I think here we go again. But this time it was way worse. All of our intestines ect float around in internal fat ect. Well when you lose a lot of weight you lose that as well. I was down to around 168 lbs in the best shape of my life but my intestines/colon had gotten twisted this time in a bad way. So by the grace of god the surgeon on call that night had seen this before with people that had weight loss surgery done laparoscopically. He went in and took 2 feet of my colon and was able to save them and re-attached. He basically said when a surgeon can get his hand on things and tighten them back up like they should be he see these things. He advice was to put weight on and get the internal fat back in so my intestines could float as they are supposed to. And he was right. I was so focused on hitting my goal and finishing 1st I guess I didnt understand or wasent told body physiology. I am back up to around 225 and all of my problems for the most part have gone away except post-op depression still after 11 years. I was fortunate he was on call that night and we have become friends and he had educated me so much from a surgeons point of view that corrects these things. He is a bariatric surgeon but fixes the problems associated with it as well. I hope that gives you a little incite that yes problems happen. You cant go back in time but if I could I would still have had the surgery but wouldnt have done it laparoscopically and let them cut me . But Im here and healthy and living life and try not to dwell on it. I hope this helps you even if for 5 minutes reading my story.
  20. Here is my story. I spent years stuck at 210 (I am 5’2) and thousands of dollars on personal trainers, nutritionists etc. watched and recorded everything I ate to no avail and of coarse the only scale movement would be I ate a cookie and gained two pounds. Meanwhile I began collecting every co morbidity - sleep apnea, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes , sever scaring on my liver. After two seperate per ate unsuccessful medically supervised diets I was advised gastric bypass was my best bet. I lot 10 lbs in the lead up (5 days a week of boot camp and strength training and keto diet). I lost another 20 lbs on the per-op liquid diet. Had surgery on March 29th. Lost 5 lbs in the first two days and have had no movement since. Walking 3 times a day at 30 minutes each. Drinking 70 oz of water and at least 90 g of protein plus all of the supplements. I know there is a three week stall but I am on a 3 day stall (at the time when weight loss is suppose to be the easiest). This was my last hope and I am starting to feel hopeless.

    Any April Surgery Dates?

My Bypass is April 4th. I am new to this group. I am excited and nervous at the same time. The diet is going well though I did cheat a little one day. Hopefully it won’t matter since I am on the pre-op diet for 24 days. I have already lost over 10 lbs!
  22. I just got my surgery March 22 . The gastric bypass. After surgery it was very painful. But gets better with some time. You will feel like you can drink much at all. Good luck!

    Finding a gastro 10 y post op?

A general gastroenterologist should be fine for starters - with the bypass being the most common current and legacy bariatric procedure, most should have a reasonable amount of experience with cases such as yours, and be familiar with the common maladies (such as marginal ulcers.) They are usually the ones to do an initial EGD (endoscopy) to take a look and see what's going on inside. If necessary, they can then refer you to a specialist interventional endoscopy center, usually associated with a major regional cancer center hospital. Such hospitals usually have a bariatric practice associated with the cancer center, and they are often a good place to go for more unusual cases as they tend to see a wider variety of odd cases; while they, too, tend to be primarily surgeons, they usually have a broader staff of specialists beyond surgeons, though sometimes they may require a referral from a generalist - step one, your general gastroenterologist. Another step you can consider is to try to establish a relationship with a local bariatric practice for annual follow ups - some practices actively encourage this, while others are more cut and done type of practice. My wife and I still see (12 years out for me, 18 for her) our bariatric practice, which is 5-6 hours away, but they have long done telephone consults, but it does serve as a means of keeping them "on retainer" in the event that questions such as this come up - we, or our PCP, can call or email the doc with questions about these types of situations (is this a common thing for your patients, is there something else I should be looking for, etc.?) Check and see if any local practices have support groups open to others beyond their patients as an entry point, and to see if they have a long term interest in their craft.
  25. Thanks, Jonathan! Congrats on your bypass. I hope you’re doing well!
