    July 2020 Surgery anyone?

Hi all, my first post here! I'm a little late to the party, but I had my RnY Gastric Bypass surgery a little less than two weeks ago. After some initial discomfort due to the anesthesia I've been struggling to get my protein shakes down. I've fortunately been able to eat full liquids starting my second week which has been an enormous relief- I never thought I could enjoy cottage cheese with a little bit of salt so much! I've been making an attempt to cook and prep my meals and limit canned/processed foods. My go-to's have been the aforementioned cottage cheese w/ salt and low fat greek yogurt with a homemade cherry 'jam' (cherries cooked down with a little splenda, lemon juice, water, and blended). I also made a caramelized onion & rosemary whipped ricotta dip, which turned out to be delicious and tastes richer than it actually is. I also attempted to make a 'mango lassi' style protein shake with some freeze-dried mango, greek yogurt, skim milk, and genepro. It turned out to be too much for my stomach to handle, but I hope to try it again down the line... I love food and cooking, and I also still love eating... which, in part, is how I got to my high weight. So far the surgery has helped me be satisfied with a 2 oz serving, but undoubtedly this will become more difficult for me in the future. I even saw it this week, when I was saving the best looking bite of my yogurt for last. I could have put down the yogurt a little earlier, but I wanted to finish my portion for that last bite. This is obviously a habit I want to break, so best bites first from now on. Looking forward to reading your stories! My surgery was late in July, so a lot of you must be close to 1 month out. How's it going?
  2. At 2 weeks I couldn't take the water anymore... I tried V8 low sodium juice... I thought I died and went to heaven ..soooo good... Something to wake up my taste buds. I have half a cup in the morning... I mix my Genepro protein in that. It's tasteless and orderless.
  3. Genepro unflavored protein powder is great! You can order it from Amazon. It is 90 calories and 30gms protein per scoop. I was sleeved 11/19 and I still use it all the time in things like yogurt and even beans and ham soup

    July 2020 Surgery anyone?

My doctor only had clear liquid through day 2, so I’ve been on full liquid, including strained soups and Greek yogurt, since day 4. (It could have been day 3, but I wasn’t up to much on day 3!). I am also a rule follower, so I totally get it! But I can’t imagine 2 weeks of clear liquid diet! Strained cream of chicken with added genepro protein made with 1% milk has been my go to for one meal each day.

    July 2021 Surgery People!

Soonlee_W, You can do this! You are so close to your surgery, this post op diet is tough, but temporary. Glad you are ready to follow the doctor's plan to prepare for your new VSG lifestyle. I'm here doing pre op with you! I don’t love it. I'm tired of my chocolate shakes & my beef broth was nasty, but I know it will be worth it! Today, I bought some vanilla & strawberry shakes to mix it up a little, and I will stick to chicken & veggie broth. Are you allowed the s.f. popsicles & s.f. jello? I added some protein (genepro) to the raspberry jello last night, it was something to look forward to at the end of the day. (And I am not a jello fan) Congratulations on the 4 pounds, and it is great to see you get back on track!

Any other gay sleevers out there?

Man thank you so much. I have been doing 2 premiere Proteins a day, but they're wayyyyy to sweet. Chicken broth is wayyyy to salty. Lol. I am making do with Water and Jello sugar free pudding. Went to Starbucks and got a peach green tea lemonade unsweetened. Best thing ever. I'm doing good with getting at least 64 ounces of Fluid, but the sweet protein - yuck. Have you tried unflavored protein? I use GENEPRO almost every day, it's 30 grams per tablespoon and has no flavor. I add a scoop in decaf coffee, I also use it in SF pudding..I purchase mine on Amazon. One way to cut the sweetness on the premiere is by adding it to cold decaf coffee, with a few pumps of SF torani syrup. With the chicken broth, are you getting low sodium? Our taste buds change so drastically after surgery but I promise it gets easier everyday I ordered and got the genpro. Tried it today - glad you suggested it. I put it in my Crystal lite raspberry lemonade. It's the best. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    July 2021 Surgery People!

I had my surgery a few days before you (currently on full liquid phase), and I agree it is hard to get them both in, especially that first week. I have been getting better at getting them in this second week, so it gets easier (at least until we have to start spacing out the water before and after meals). I try to drink my protein shakes between meals. So the first around 10 am and the second around 3pm or 8 pm. There were a few days were I couldn't stomach them, so on those days when that happened, I used Genepro and added 1/2 a serving to my soups or crystal light. Also sometimes th chocolate shakes can be overwhelming, so I mix 1/2 vanilla & 1/2 chocolate. If I get 2 shakes or 2 servings of Genepro in that is 60 g of protein. I have been also eating Oikos Triple Zero Yogurt (1/2 container w/ 7 g of protein). For me, water has been the bigger challenge every day. Like you said, there aren't enough hours in the day to get it all in! Drinking Crystal Light or other sugar free drinks instead of water for a drink or two a day also helps me. I have a time marked motivation cup filled with water and need to have it near me at all times. I am always behind on where I should be each hour. 🤦‍♀️Luckily, the 2 shakes take care of 16 oz of water, otherwise I wouldn't have made the 64 oz goal yet. I did set a timer on my phone through baritastic, but it doesn't seem to work on my phone. I think there are water drinking reminder apps, so I will need to try that next week when I start soft foods. I'm sorry you are getting cramping, when I drink too quickly, I feel it sometimes, too, but it has gotten better. Wishing you luck, and looking forward to seeing other tips for the water, too! Keep us posted if you find tips that work for you!😊
  8. It may be lactose intolerance. I know that's common. Genepro and Isopure are both okay for dairy issues if it's dairy then you may be struggling to process the regular when protien, but whey isolate is safe for people like me Btw If you want to try the genepro you can order samples

    February 2019 weight loss buds

I’m having RNY on Feb 5th! I have a 2 week liquid pre-op diet where they want me to drink 4-5 protein drinks a day. That makes me nervous. I barely tolerate the ready to drink premier protein. I bought the sample pack of Unjury and syntrax nectar and also Isopure vanilla and genepro unflavored. I’m sure I will find something in there I like. I also have a variety of crystal light, sf jello and sf popsicles, and broth for my fluids. Anyone have suggestions for something else I need? Oh, and I have my post op bariatric advantage multi vitamin, calcium, b12, and iron.

    February 2019 weight loss buds

This has a little bit of protein already in it which is why I was going this route. I have tried adding Genepro to some soups but it grosses me out for some reason...
  11. Well thank goodness...I thought it was pre-op diet day 8, but it's really 9.  So, today went just ok again.  Will be busy tomorrow so I need to make sure I have stuff handy while I'm out and about.  I've noticed I've been on edge with my kids, hubby, work, and all the posts about genepro, stalls, and stretching the sleeve...doing my best to contain myself.  I know most of it is in my head, cause my body is being sustained with something at least.  Sucks to not eat a regular healthy meal, but hey, it's all for my health and it's temporary. I think I'll take a break tomorrow from logging in...I need to breath.  :)

Ya'll have a blessed night and great day tomorrow!

The edge is normal. Lol. Well, I took my breather. Feel much better. Had an awesome dream about my surgery last night. Such peace this morning. Don't think I'll navigate too much on the forums today.

I am glad you are feeling better. I say stay away from them for the time being. Your surgery is soon. Do not need negative vibes, only positive energy. Good for the heart and soul.

@Sweet as peaches how are you doing over there lol?

    Sick when I eat!

Same problem with Protein intake finally found a protein that works for me. GENEPRO, odorless, tasteless, or somewhat tasteless today I discovered it's a little like powder milk, My daughter ordered it on Amazon, I mix it in a 1/4 cup of Water or juice and cream of wheat or Soup. It goes down well, You may want to give it a try. 30G per TBLS made by Musclegen Research. Hang in there, it really gets better.
  13. I think it's very doable. I love premier Protein ( Choc and vanilla) drinks from costco and would take enough for 2 a day. Olive Garden was kind enough to purée my minestrone Soup for me during my liquid stage. Enough for 2-3 meals. sugar free pudding and Jello. I bought from Amazon GENEPRO Powdered Protien. You can add it to Soups, drinks etc. Just take a small jar of it with you to up your protein. Just follow your Drs rules and don't get caught up in the food. Have fun! Protein Shakes

I'm not a argumentive person and don't claim to know everything, I have drinked Protein drinks for years, but after surgery I got where i could not gag another Protein shake down.....could not stand the after taste of Isopure and I tried a closet full of others. GENEPRO has been the best for me. I love it,....no after taste and I am able to get all of my protein in for the day. What works for me may not work for someone else. I was just trying to give a helpful hint to someone else going through this journey....which we are all here to help each other. I wish you the best.

    Protein Shakes

Ya know that term "apples to apples" ?? Well, that's how various companies out there get away with claims that just don't stand up to actual comparison. They make claims that are not actual side by side (apples to apples) comparisons. They claim how their products work differently and are therefore better and more effective with greater claims that aren't substantiated with actual independent data or research or any universally accepted labeling. Prime example as we all know......"diet pills" (not a single one actually works as claimed) I am always skeptical about any product's claims when there is considerable double talk about how differently their product is or works and yet they don't include actual side by side labeling or independent research to compare with other products. And while I certainly appreciate the individual reviews made by users of a product, I typically do not rely on those reviews as to whether a product is actually effective. At least not where the product's results are based in science and I have no idea of the reviewers credentials. Keep in mind people, we live in a society where the proverbial "disclaimer" is used in practically all aspects of our lives. It is meant to mislead. ie: "Information was obtained that suggests the person in custody actually committed the crime"........ (what information, from whom??? Suggests - not actual facts!! ) They don't have any actual facts, but it doesn't keep them from making unsubstantiated claims just to appear more knowledgeable. Here is a reply from another WLS site that throws out some valid points to consider....... "You cannot get 30 grams of Protein in a 15 gram serving. Not in our current universe. What they have done is process the crap out of whey protein, similar to how other failed companies have done in the past. The other companies failed because their claims were also bogus. They all revolve around a molecule they call a hexapeptide. The company throws around a lot of doubletalk, but you will not see a nutrition label the way you will on a reputable product. They have an asterisk next to the 30 gram figure that says "equivalent." That's because their 15 gram scoop only has 10 grams of whey protein. They claim it is "equivalent" to 30 grams of protein because their GENEPRO is absorbed three times better than "normal" whey protein. They have only their own marketing hype to make this claim. One of the things people seem to love about this product is that it dissolves so well compared to other whey powders. Well, duh. You are only dissolving 10 grams of whey, not 30, so of course it dissolves better. Take one third of your usual powder and see how well it dissolves. It will look like magic too.The other big problem with Genepro is that they claim to be absorbed in the upper part of the digestive tract. If you had RNY or DS this wouldn't do you any good.Unfortunately, people using this are thinking they are getting 30 grams of protein, when in reality they are getting only 10. That means the cost per gram is three times higher than you thought. Oh, and it could leave you malnourished to boot. As obese and formerly obese people, many of us have been victimized by fake science, false promises, and diets, gadgets and gizmos that don't work. There is no super food that will make us lose weight, and no super supplement that provides three times the nutrition that it possibly can." So.......does it work or not.....that is the question. I don't know. I'm just playing the devil's advocate here. Good luck

    Protein Powders

A really good one is GENEPRO. It mixes in both hot and cold. One tablespoon = 30g of protein. It's a medical grade protein separated by electrophoresis (and perhaps some column chromatography). Sorry if I"m being a nerd, I'm a chemist lol. Anyway, the stuff is awesome.
  17. BigViffer

    Protien

That's actually a myth. You body will utilize all the protein that it takes in over time. The part that people stick to is that it can only absorb so much in a time span. See the linked study on optimal anabolic response: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5828430/ Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but GENEPRO is junk protein powder whose owner was sued for faulty claims. If you read the fine print, it should say something along the lines that it is a magically fast absorbing protein that is equivalent to 30 grams of protein. It's bunk. Do a search on this forum for GENEPRO and you will find some really angry people who got suckered.

    not hitting goals

Get some unflavored Protein powder - I have GENEPRO & unjury chicken. I add the chicken flavors to chicken broth or Soups. The genepro mixes in other soups (be careful of the temperature), yogurts, cottage cheese, puddings, coffee, teas too. Try adding the Premier Protein (4 ounces) into some coffee and Fairlife protein milk is also good. I'm almost 3 Months out and these have helped me meet my protein goals. smoothie king also has a gladiator protein that I enjoy on occassion. I have tried the nectar protein but don't care for them very much. Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App

    HELP...FLAVOR LESS PROTEIN POWDER

Genepro is what I use daily, and it's not a huge scoop, more like a tablespoon.
  23. One thing i tried that i love are breakfast parfait's. I use fage 0% fat plain greek (taste awful by itself, it's very tart) and i add a scoop of gnc vanilla protein to it. And top it with my favorite berries. (If you want to add rolled oats on top for a granola like effect knock yourself out) -instant 45g of protein right there. -premier caramel a scoop of any flavor protein powder and caramel flavored coffee - instant 50g of protein - i've added genepro to sauces, dressings etc I've done fruit flavored greek yogurt mixed with any ready to drink protein and blended it with berries and ice for about 50g of protein. -loco moco over cauliflower rice (pinterest) using 93% lean ground beef, 1 egg and a few tbs of egg whites. (Almost 50g of protein) I'll add as i think of other things i've done recently.
  24. You inspired me. Here was my variation: 1/2 vanilla yogurt, stevia to sweeten, iced coffee (5 oz), ice, Protein powders listed below. Dang it's really good, and big boost in energy. GENEPRO - Protein Powder, 0.5 scoop 49 cal 1 carb 15g protein Dannon Oikos Triple 0 (Pennys) - strawberry Greek Yogurt 0% Fat, 2.65 oz. 60cal 8g carb 8g protein GNC Total Lean™ - Lean Shake™ 25 - Rich chocolate, 1 Scoops 100 cal 9g carb 13g protein Total: 209 cal 17g carb, 35g of protein My new Breakfast of champions
  25. I've done a lot of reading about GENEPRO GEN2 Protein powder and it seems like a terrific way to meet my protein goals each day. The company said it is tasteless and odorless and can be mixed in hot or cold foods. Has anyone used it? Is it actually tasteless? I have a really difficult time getting enough protein each day so this might be an answer. If you have used it what do you typically mix it with? Do you like it?
