Day 5 and feeling GREAT! I’m telling you, the gas pain sucks but once you get past that...woo-hoo! I’m not hungry at ALL though. So trying my best to get my water and protein in. One tip, my NUT suggested Unjury unflavored protein powder so I got a sample pack of that at first. It’s ok, but a lot of powder to mix in for just 10 grams of protein? No bueno. I found another brand at GNC. GENEPRO. It’s fantastic! I used it during my pre-op and it’s saving me during post op (since I can’t drink as much broth as I could before.) There are 30 g of protein in just one scoop AND the scoop is 3 x smaller than many others! It mixes great in a little lukewarm water, then I just add it to my broth or juice. Getting that much protein in a serving during the early post op days is wonderful!!
  2. I think you’re asking a broader question but I’m going to answer in terms of what I’ve experienced in the first week post op. I should’ve had a more realistic picture of what the first week would look like post surgery. The diet they gave me advanced too quickly for me. If it weren’t for these items I would not have made it through week one as comfortably! When I couldn’t get the vitamins down I had the patches. When I couldn’t get the minimum water AND protein shakes down I had the protein water. When the only “food” I could possibly consume was broth, these K-cups were quick, easy and helped me get in a little extra protein. (And the Genepro is probably just good to have all around. You can add it to the cream soups when you’re ready for extra protein.) Most people probably knew this stuff beforehand but I learned all this the hard way. In the hospital a few things and I really appreciated bringing were my extension cord, my heated blanket, robe and a change of pajamas. I actually brought full blown make up bag with eyeshadow palettes and everything which I didn’t even touch. The only cosmetic or toiletries I used was my toothbrush and toothpaste! Comparatively I feel like I’ve had a more difficult first seven days than others but I have had zero regrets and no regrets phase. I went in after doing a lot of self education and knew it would be challenging. I’m excited for the prospect of looking and feeling better and things are improving daily! I think you will find the same is true for you.

    August surgery buddies!

Maybe you could recommend a different unflavored protein powder other than GenePro. I can’t tolerate it at all! Where can I get the liquid protein??

    Appetite back with a vengance!

Not wanting to step on Jess's toes, but to clarify, she is referring to Genepro. It is not possible for it to contain the 30 g of protein it claims to, with the calorie count it claims (and actual weight of the product)

Anyone having surgery in Oct ?

I'm having trouble with my water also, what I have been doing is adding unjury unflavored protein powder to a 20oz powerade zero. Then I drink bottled water to get the rest of my fluids in for the day.I didn't think about adding the unflavored to my propel that is a great idea! Do u like the unjury unflavored? I got a sample of Matrix and Jay Robb to try.I haven't tried any of the other's the unjury unflavored has 20 grams protein per scoop & seems to be ok. If you can find something that gives you more like what Jenaenae84 suggested you might try it.It's called GenePro I got it online at Amazon really great and 30 grams of protein per serving which is one tablespoon
  6. Honestly IF still works for me even though I have protein coffee in the am because I have to have it- life is too sad without it so this is what I do. (I am trying to have lemon water when I wake and then coffee but we’ll see). I have either coffee with premier shake as a creamer or I make a latte and add genepro protein to it and some collagen. I sip that over the morning and don’t eat anything until about 2-3 pm ish and then I try to get all of my food in within 4 hours and then rest of the day it’s water... before surgery in order to lose enough weight to get approved for surgery I did the above routine too but the difference is on some days I ate one giant salad/ lunch - whatever I wanted - within 60-90 min and still had AM protein coffee and I lost a big chunk of weight. Right now I exercise and weight list so much I’m struggling between not knowing if I am having too few calories especially since my IF window feels short considering how hard it is to get my cals in within that time. Anyway I think IF still works even if you have your coffee in AM with stuff in it. IMHO
  7. I started with GENEPRO i was extatic over it then the reports of it claiming more Protein than it actually contains started coming out and that they are getting sued. I stopped because i am a newbie and did not want my protein to be low because of it. But i see where others have tried it and come out okay i dont know i am on the fence with this stuff but i really want to go back to it sonce it was the only one i could really stomach Sent from my SM-G920P using the BariatricPal App
  8. I have been using GENEPRO in my coffee in the mornings also. I do follow the mix with a fork using room temp Water then add to hot liquid route. I also warm my coffee with the Genepro in the microwave as i like it hotter than it comes out of the Keurig. I haven't had any clumping issues. February 2019 weight loss buds

I’m having RNY on Feb 5th! I have a 2 week liquid pre-op diet where they want me to drink 4-5 protein drinks a day. That makes me nervous. I barely tolerate the ready to drink premier protein. I bought the sample pack of Unjury and syntrax nectar and also Isopure vanilla and genepro unflavored. I’m sure I will find something in there I like. I also have a variety of crystal light, sf jello and sf popsicles, and broth for my fluids. Anyone have suggestions for something else I need? Oh, and I have my post op bariatric advantage multi vitamin, calcium, b12, and iron.

    February 2019 weight loss buds

This has a little bit of protein already in it which is why I was going this route. I have tried adding Genepro to some soups but it grosses me out for some reason...
  11. Are you allowed to mix in protein powder like Genepro or does your surgeon want you to get in all the protein through foods alone?
  12. Well thank goodness...I thought it was pre-op diet day 8, but it's really 9.  So, today went just ok again.  Will be busy tomorrow so I need to make sure I have stuff handy while I'm out and about.  I've noticed I've been on edge with my kids, hubby, work, and all the posts about genepro, stalls, and stretching the sleeve...doing my best to contain myself.  I know most of it is in my head, cause my body is being sustained with something at least.  Sucks to not eat a regular healthy meal, but hey, it's all for my health and it's temporary. I think I'll take a break tomorrow from logging in...I need to breath.  :)

Ya'll have a blessed night and great day tomorrow!

The edge is normal. Lol. Well, I took my breather. Feel much better. Had an awesome dream about my surgery last night. Such peace this morning. Don't think I'll navigate too much on the forums today.

I am glad you are feeling better. I say stay away from them for the time being. Your surgery is soon. Do not need negative vibes, only positive energy. Good for the heart and soul.

@Sweet as peaches how are you doing over there lol?

I'm doing well thanks. Hanging in there last minutes things to do but otherwise manageable. And what's happening with you? Any new recipes?😎

  13. Well yes this is the part they don't say much about while your waiting to have the surgery it's a process it takes time to get used to and yes it's normal for a few weeks I was only able to take tiny sips there's a lot of swelling on your insides nothing tastes good etc it does get better the important thing is to not get dehydrated force yourself to drink drink drink it's like a job at first lol it takes a few weeks to get to where you can take a normal sip again at least for me I hated the protien drinks I ended getting unflavored protien powder and mixing it with drinks soups broth tea etc tip mix it with a bit of water first when adding to hot liquids or it clumps I used genepro
  14. wannaBthinsoon

    Anyone tried this?

    Eating & pain

I am almost 8 weeks post OP and everything you're dealing with, I am as well... it's been tough. I found that I like the premier caramel flavor the most and what I do is I get some decaf hazelnut coffee (I have a keurig) and I make 6 ounces of it, put a chocolate premier shake in a blender with the coffee and some ice and it's like a light milkshake...a lot lighter on the stomach for me. I personally am still having a hard time getting my water and protein but am trying my best like you. One other option someone recommended to me is the GENEPRO Protein Powder. It literally has NO taste at all which I love because literally anything can make me nauseous at this point....and that protein powder packs 30 grams of protein in one tablespoon scoop...which is so helpful. 16. Hubby and I are getting sleeved next Tuesday! So far we are liking premier Protein, but I also wanted to get some unflavored protein to add to things like broth (I'm going to get sick of sweet real quick). Which ones do you suggest someone suggested GENEPRO to me. Thank you for your help!

    How much protein?

I am getting 60-65. I don't drink shakes anymore. I can't tolerate them. They make me so sick. I eat cottage cheese, eggs, Greek yogurt, GENEPRO Protein powder, chicken , salmon and fair life milk. How much did your Dr tell you to get in? Are you on normal foods yet? 18. If I had a sore throat I'd would stick to Soups and add GENEPRO powder to them. Tylenol cold or Tylenol flu may help. Sent from my SM-N910T using the BariatricPal App

    Sick when I eat!

Same problem with Protein intake finally found a protein that works for me. GENEPRO, odorless, tasteless, or somewhat tasteless today I discovered it's a little like powder milk, My daughter ordered it on Amazon, I mix it in a 1/4 cup of Water or juice and cream of wheat or Soup. It goes down well, You may want to give it a try. 30G per TBLS made by Musclegen Research. Hang in there, it really gets better.
  20. The first week after surgery I was restricted to Clear Liquids only. They weren't concerned about me getting much Protein during that week. I can't stand Protein shakes so I relied heavily on GENEPRO mixed into my foods.

    LONGEST. STALL. EVERRRR.

I mix GENEPRO (unflavored Protein 30 grams) with crystal light. I stop at the Sonic in the morning and get a big cup of ice. I keep it at my desk and sip on it all morning. I mix another one in the afternoon and sip it all afternoon. Great way to get your proteinand Water in.
  23. I had revision from band to sleeve on August 17. I have lost about 18 pounds which seems pretty good to me. I feel like I am learning to eat all over again. I seem to be doing pretty good with getting my protein in with the Genepro and I struggle a bit with the water. Last week I began to feel nausea and I realized I was eating too much. If I stick to 3 to 4 ounces I feel fine. My surgeon has advanced my diet as I can tolerate. I can eat salad or, anything really, just not much of it. My cravings are under control and I can have small amounts of sugar, like one Hershey kiss, and it does not seem to throw me into the trenches of hell of increasing my cravings for bad choices. I watch my macros which I have set for 20% carbs, 30% fat and 50% protein. For the most part I am hitting that or getting close enough. I am trying to establish life long eating habits without having foods that are completely removed from my diet. Eating out is hard because I tend to waste so much food. People say to save it and eat it later however I usually will never get to eating it because I just do not eat very much. I think I am going to have to eat 4 to 6 small meal/snacks a day to get my needs met. I am up to about 5 to 600 calories a day, but I know that is not sufficient, so I try to increase as I can. I know my body is in starvation mode because I have not moved on the scale for about 3 weeks. I am taking my Flintstone multi and a vitamin D daily and I also have some calcium chews. I do see a nutritionist but have not been able to get in since my surgery. Does this look like I am doing things correctly?

    Turkey Day

I'm drinking shakes, eating cottage cheese, unsweetened applesauce, soups- cream of anything , sf yogurt. I add unflavored Protein powder to some of this too. GENEPRO has 30 grams of protein so if you add it to Soup it's a good amount. I have eaten some mashed potatoes although I don't think that's a good choice. I don't get creative with puréed - just the basics. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Late night

Hey! Where do you buy your Genepro from -- Amazon? Currently on Protein shakes but if I can mix it into my food later that'd be cool too. Can't wait till next week when I can have pudding. Do you think it's the best flavorless protein powder? I was going to order my genepro from Amazon but thought I would check out GNC just in case. GNC does carry it and it was a few dollars cheaper.
