    March 2015 Surgery!

Good morning everyone, I had RNY on 3/11. I'm shocked by the pain and discomfort I'm still experiencing 10 days later. I was having a hard time getting protein and water in as well. I saw in a previous post that genepro has 30g in each serving. Its spendy, I ordered it from Amazon. Its non flavored, no smell. I have been adding it to broth, its actually pretty good. As for water I'm managing about 48 oz a day. I'm so close to stage 3, I never thought I'd be excited to have scrambled eggs
  2. My sleeve surgery is March 28. I know I will have to supplement with protein powder, I have already purchased genepro powder. How have you fellow vegetarians gotten all your protein? Especially when at liquid & mushy stage? Is it OK if almost all my protein comes from supplement? I would Iike to know what all of you are eating...

    Post-Op Liquid Diet

I like Unjury chocolate splendor. The only other protein powder I use is Genepro. No taste. You can put it in anything hot or cold. No clumping.

    Protein Powders

I love Genepro! It has 30 grams of protein in one tablespoon. It is tasteless and odorless and supposedly mixes instantly in hot and cold beverages. However, I have found that not to be true. I haven't been able to mix it with cold. I use it in hot beverages. It's so easy to get my 60 to 90 grams per day this way.

    help please lol

Protein drinks are nasty. I only drank the necessary amount during pre-diet and the few weeks after surgery. I have not touched them since. Fortunately my doctor does not want me to use them at all now. My NUT tells me I should be eating my protein not drinking it. Of course early on you can't but that's such a short period of your life even though it feels like an eternity when you are in the middle of it. Premier Choc and Vanilla were my faves. But the Genepro unflavored was great because I would add it to homemade chicken and beef stock and it was delicious. It saved me because I could eat it with a spoon and felt like food but took care of my fluid requirements at the same time.

Got my Genepro in and have mixed it with orange juice and chicken broth so far. It mixes great and can't taste it. I think I'm in love
  8. It's not usual to feel tired this soon after surgery. This is why it is advised to take at least 2 weeks off. Some of us bounce back quickly, others don't. There really isn't anyway to tell beforehand. Hopefully you are still taking your Vitamins and supplements. If protein powders are a challenge, focus on at least getting in your fluids. If you get dehydrated you will feel worse. Lastly keep calling your doctor's office. You need to touch base with him if you are feeling poorly. The noises will go away eventually. Some tummies just like to gurgle. You should be following your nutritionist recommended diet. If cheese and pureed Soups is on your menu then enjoy! I was having cheese and pureed soups within the first 2 weeks because it was allowed on my full liquid stage. I have yet to have a problem eating/drinking anything. I agree Genepro appears to be using some sort of pseudo science. I know it's popular, but I would personally shy away from it.
  9. I'm starting my liquid diet today. My surgery is on March 26th 2015 so I'm starting my two week liquid diet today. Can't believe I will be having surgery in two weeks. I'm excited and scared st the same time. Been trying not to think about it too much cause I was having trouble sleeping. Drinking premier protein shakes, chicken broth with genepro mixed in, sugar free jello, zero calorie poweraid, and water. Yum yum Hope it goes by quickly and smoothly.
  10. If using Genepro, I would only count the 15g of protein that are physically in a serving, not the 30g they claim. But I personally steer clear of it entirely, because it seems like a bunch of junk science to me.
  11. genepro is a joke. its a lie they tell you to use much less Protein saying that their blend is like getting 30 grams of protein but they are saying that as if you cant absorb protein which isnt true so genepro right of is a very very bad idea it doesnt give you anywhere near enough protein which is probably why your body is starving itself along with dehydration. please do not rely on the GENEPRO or at least put in three to four times as much as it calls for.
  12. I have a question if anyone can advise me I'd appreciate it I had the sleeve two weeks ago today was discharged two days later had follow up on the monday six days after surgery i lost 15 lbs in a week surgeon says way too much come off clear liquids and on full liquids and puréed which I did I lost another 15 lbs this week I feel awful since the Sunday after surgery I woke up feeling extremely weak and shaky can't seem to drink enough fluids water tastes like metal anything with artificial sweeteners tastes godawful have no trouble eating of course not eating much but haven't felt nauseated or thrown up I'm using Genepro protein powder I put in all food and hot drinks doesn't seem to dissolve in cold drinks has anyone else felt this way? How long does it last does it get better? I can't even imagine trying to go back to work I can't drink every minute and do my job not that I could work in this condition tried calling drs office yesterday was put on hold for 10 mins no one came back on the line I hung up even if they asked me to come in at this point I don't feel strong enough to walk from where parking is to the building where the office is

    3 days out - protein?

I swear by GENEPRO unflavored. In only 1 TBS you get 30 g of Protein in it. I can mix it in juice, G2, or any sort of flavored Water (Crystal Light, etc.). I got it on Amazon I think for $38. I'm going to try it tonight in my first full liquid Soup. Since I already had 1 20 oz drink with it in there, if I can tolerate it in the soup I'll probably only eat 1/2, then I will be able to get 45 g of protein in, 1 week post-op. Hope this helps!

    Food ideas

Unjury has a chicken soup protein. It helped me as it was a clear liquid, has 23 g protein and preop it satisfied my hunger bc it's warm. I also like Genepro unflavored protein powder to mix in Gatorade, juice or flavored water.

    February 17th anyone?

I was sleeved on Feb 17th as well. Haven't looked back! Down 28 pounds as of today...15 pre-op and 13 post-op. Took 11 days off work. All good except I do struggle with getting enough protein but ordered some Genepro from Amazon yesterday. I've heard it is truly tasteless and can be added to anything. Has anyone used it?? Glad to have found this site!
  17. @@purrfctangel Also look at GENEPRO, it has 30 grams per VERY small scoop (a little bigger than a tablespoon, I think), and is unflavored. There seems to be little info out there on it, but if it indeed is what they say it is, we may have found gold! I have been using it a while now, and I intend to ask my dietician on the 16th what her opinion is of it. Found it on Amazon.com. It mixes really well, compared to the other whey powders I've used. But I still use the other powder just in case the Genepro isn't what it claims to be and do. Have a good evening....
  18. I had a hard time at first also. I still cannot stand sweet. Cannot get yogart down. Cannot tolerate sweet drinks. I found I do like Crystal Lite lemonade....it is more tangy and not as sweet. Could not stand Protein drinks at first other than Adkins chocolate Royale.....but it is low in protein. I hated Premier drinks...30 grams of protein....but your taste changes and now I love the strawberry Premier drink (you can get these at a Walmart). My stand by during this time was Soup.....make refried Beans thin like soup and put cheese on top...I still go and get Wendy's Chili because of the convenience and it is high protein. Six grilled nuggets from Chick Fila has 23 grams of protein (I eat these for breakfast). I mix Crystal Light lemonade with GENEPRO and keep a big glass of it at my desk.....I get my protein and Water in at the same time. Most days I get in at least 100-120 grams of protein

    Timing Protein

My NUT approved me to drink it at one time and then have other protein throughout the day. I am six months out. No problems and my blood work came back excellent. No deficiencies in protein. I use a scoop of Genepro and a scoop of Unjury in 8 ounces of water and its 58 grams of protein. I still eat protein at other meals. No junk. And less than 40 carbs a day. I usually get in about 500-800 calories a day. I think everybody has different rules. ????

I use quest bars. I get them at GNC. If you join, you get a box for $24.99. I also use premier protein shakes. I get them at Costco - the best price is $25 for a case of 18. Quest bars are 20 grams protein. Premier shakes are 30 grams. I'm ordering genepro right now!
