Where the heck are you all?

Hey Megan..good to see you back on the boards! Isn't shopping in a "normal" store a great feeling? I bought a pair of size 16 jeans at Nordstrom this week...SCORE!! Congrats to you on your great NSV and have fun showing off your "slimmer self" in Key West!! -Amy
  2. Oh yes, I have a pair of white capris at the dry cleaners as we speak.... good NSV!

    Competition Amongst Women

Agreed. I've seen enough "one-ups" on here to not make me want to post my NSV, stats, etc. ever! But again, I'm slightly dramatic haha I'm sorry that happened to you, LV. This certainly isn't the venue for that kind of nonsense. You know you're killing it. Don't ever let someone make you question your success!
  4. Ok so my surgery was January 31, 2012 in the first two and half weeks I lost 32 pounds and have been stalled for 2 weeksish. This has caused me to be so bummed. Even through reading posts about it being normal, and doing everything right: I'm still obsessed with the scale and bummed. My NUT said I already started out with a dramatic weight loss and I'll start to equal out and lose 10 pounds a month, conservatively. However I am trying to focus on the positive. Therefore I am posting my first NSV: I HAVE A NECK!! In my wedding pictures I was at my highest weight (still had an amazing wedding). However the one thing I noticed was my head looked like it sat on my shoulders. Yuck. Last night I went out with some friends and after being tagged on Facebook (I usually dreaded) I was happy with most of the pictures and noticed my neck (: I also posted two pictures in my gallery and can see a little difference there as well. Here's to more NSVs and a healthy journey! Have a fabulous Sunday, sleevettes!
  5. I'm looking through the topics today, and it seems like a lot of people are having some tough days lately. I thought maybe we all could take a moment to look at the happiness that our sleeve's have brought us. For me, my energy is through the roof. Well maybe not right at this instant, but I can sustain energy much longer and do SO much more on the weekends. How about you? Share something that has made you so proud of yourself lately?
  6. Went shopping bought a size 10 capris really a good size 12 petite from.a 18w. shirts a med. -large from a 2x. Unbelivable love this sleeve. But i do work at it but the end justifies the means Sent from my SPH-D700 using VST

    It's my one year anniversary!

Hey Gang! Well it's been a year. Hard to believe. I'm feeling great. I've lost 109 lbs from my top weight and 87lbs since surgery. I was hoping to have lost another 10 to 20 lbs but I don't think that is going to happen. Once I hit the weight I'm at now, I just totally stopped losing weight. I think our bodies know where we are suppose to be and just stop there. I'm ok if I don't lose anymore. I'm in a size 7/8 or 9/10 depending on the clothes. I pretty much eat whatever I want now but just try to be mindful of what I'm putting in my mouth. I can definitely eat more than I used to right after surgery. Right after surgery and up until about 5 or 6 months after I could eat about 1/3 cup of chili. I now can eat 1 cup. I still try to make protein my first choice and try to keep my carbs down to a minimum. I rarely eat bread now, so sandwhiches/burgers etc aren't part of my diet. Bread is one of the things I don't digest well now and I'm glad because it used to be one of my weaknesses. My tastes have definitely changed. I don't care for fried food at all. I used to love fried chicken or anything fried. Now, I hate the taste. Not because I can't eat it, but my tastes have honestly changed. I love salads and Dr. Aceves gave me the ok to eat them. For all of you contemplating or just beginning your journey. Life does become very normal again. Actually for the first time in 30 years I feel normal. I don't constnatly think about eating, I don't eat until I feel like I'm going to explode. I told my doc..."This must be what normal people feel like"! I've had some great NSV's over the last year. One that comes to mind is not being recognized more than once. A casual aquaintance asked me if I was "Barbara's" sister because I looked just like her. lol I thought he was joking, but he wasn't. I explained that I was "Barbara" just a smaller version. lol In all honestly, this surgery changed my life. I couldn't be happier. I would do it over in a heart beat. Best wishes to all my sleeve sisters and brothers! Barb

Today's my 4 mos anniversary of being banded... Total weight loss 81 3/4 lb. - since surgery 48 3/4 lbs. I am still convinced this has been the best thing I ever did for myself, my life, and my family. Since 1/22/09 my health has taken a nose dive... whooping cough, inflammed brochial tubes, (6 weeks), just feeling better and kidney stones hit with lots of complications including two stays in the hospital 3 day and a 8 day. Infection in my blood, surgery on stones, and pnemonia. A very sick cookie. I know you are wondering where I'm heading with this...NSV - Not being able to exercise but craving, yearning, wanting (in the shape I was I won't use dying) to EXERCISE what a change in my thought process. My LBS has been awesome...visited me in the hospital both times admitted. Dietician has also visited me in hospital. They have given me such support ... I know I am and will continue to be successful in my new lifestyle change. Through all the illnesses my primary concern was my band...it has come through like a trooper. I'm still very protective ... which is good because it helps me make good choices and follow the LB rules! I'm really beginning to realize what all the talk about it being a TOOL is about. I have to make my food decisions and can make good choices. Still measuring all my foods. DH has bought me the Wii/Wii fit and a sport's watch to monitor my heart rate. I did fudge a little (dr. has not released me to do any exercises yet except minor 5 to 10 min. walks.) and tried some of the balancing games and I did try the Basic Step Aerobics(laughed with DH more than anything because I have no rhythm - can't figure out right, left, front, back - out of 85 steps I got 13 and this was on the beginner! Another NSV - realizing my DH is there to be supportive and that I can handle his help. I am nothing but grateful for having my best friend travel by my side on this journey. Have you begun to see a common thread through my rambling.... My most important NSV is my MIND SET. I am beginning to BELIEVE I am changing my LIFESTYLE. In the beginning of my journal I wrote, "I am dedicating this journal to a lifestyle change: From Living to Eat to Eating to Live!" I believe I am on my way to doing that! PS - I could actually buy a top today at the local Walmart store and only pay $8.00 instead of the only store for plus size women I've had to shop at for the past 10 years! What an anniversay present! Keep the faith! Deb

It's great reading everyone's NSV. It really goes to show how quickly we can make a change in our lives. For me the most recent NSV is one that I never really thought of. The other morning my wife and I got up and before I went out of the bedroom we went to hug. Well she goes to me, "Look at this I can touch my fingers together around you now." Not that she was just touching her finger tips she was actually pushing them together. Well it felt great that I have lost enough that she can do that! =)

Congratulations Florida Pete on your decision to go back to school. You'll love it. I completed my bachelors degree a couple years ago and am looking at going back for a Masters. On the NSV side, I recently wore a skirt to work. I'd purchase the skirt to wear at Easter and thought I'd better get another wearing or two of the skirt before it got too big. I haven't worn a skirt in sooooo many years. Anyway, I received a number of compliments from both men and women. This was a great motivator for me. Best wishes to everyone on our journeys to healthier selves.

This is great nsv: I've been able to walk for 1.5 miles come in and bike for an additional 10 min. Pretty good for someone that couldn't make it from parking lot to my classroom without huffing and puffing like the big bad wolf. Also, can bend down and tie my shoes! I used to have to have to finagle all around the couch to get the task done. And the biggest "one my positive attitude" is affecting my DH we actually - playfully wrestled the other night...been a long time since that happened. He's been wonderfully supportive! April Avengers - NSV!

Guys I had a huge NSV this weekend. My DD's 6th birthday was this past weekend. We rented one of those "jumping houses/space walks". My 10 month old nephew hadn't had a turn and I looked at that little door and thought there is no way my big rump will fit through there. It did! With Ease! After letting him crawl around and play some - I waited for all of the kids to go inside and crawled back in. I jumped and jumped and jumped. I would have NEVER been able to do that two months ago! It was so much fun. Nothing hurt afterward either. I was barely winded. I need a trampoline!!!

    April Avengers - NSV!

Here's another NSV to add to the list. I realised last week that I wrapped a regular-sized bath towel around myself after a shower and it covered everything.:hurt: Granted, the boobs are still in the way of being able to tuck it closed, but no more flashing the kids with an extra 2" of flesh hanging out! Woo hoo!! -m
  16. Weight loss has helped me and so has cutting back on caffeine. Awesome NSV!
  17. A much needed topic! Not bad for recent NSVs; *I did my first fun run yesterday * I bought, and fit in a pair of uk 10 (us size 6) jeans - ok so they are stretchy ones, but still... * My neighbor of 9 years saw me at a work do, and after talking for 10 minutes finally realised who I was (her mum tells me she got home and asked " what happened to Claire???") lol * My DH and I had a major fall out yesterday (not good), about a female colleague of his who stalks after him Grr, HOWEVER when we calmed down enough to talk, he apologised, and said he thought I'd know she could never mean anything to me, because he has never looked at anyone else, and thought I might believe in myself now I have achieved such a personal transformation! *I have a photo of my daughter and I, in which I look THIN, seriously, wtf? Not even average, thin! Never expected that in a million years!! I totally <3 my sleeve xx

How much weight training is enough

That is similar to what I started doing around 2 months post-op. Idk that it helped with loose skin, but it definitely seemed to help with weight loss. Also, I look toned and fit. I actually had a stranger on a plane the other day say I was “ripped” and asked if I do cross fit. The stranger also happened to be a very attractive man in my age group. Lol! Best NSV yet! 😊

    In the first month

@@TamaraRae - it varies so DON'T compare and get frustrated. I lost 21lbs about a month out. Measure yourself NOW @1cutiejulie mentioned inches will not necessarily show up on the scale. Those are NSVs!

    Nsv!

Bought tight 16 jeans about 3 weeks ago. They were bogo so I got a 14 too. I noticed the 16 was a little baggy by the end of the day and said what the hey! Tried on the 14 and they're a little baggy too! lol so I'm in a 14! (originally a 22 4 months ago!) grandmother picked me up a medium top last weekend and it fit. Thought it was a fluke. Got a medium top for me yesterday, tried it on today and it fits!!! (originally an xl-xxl) I kind of want to leave the giant sizing stickers on to show what size Im wearing and how much I've lost lol Also bought my first ever pair of skinny jeans! They never fit my calves and looked wretched. I make em look gooooooood now hehe
  21. Your story of this ring is really touching. It is nice to know that he will be remembered and that you actually will be able to showcase one of his last pieces now. I am so glad to hear this NSV =) It is definitely an incredible thing.

I LOVE READING EVERYONE'S NSVs!!! They are so very inspiring! I had several NSVs this past Friday. I was able to wear an XL women's t-shirt comfortably. I used to wear an XXXL t-shirt. My favorite pair of Old Navy jeans (size 26) are now falling off of me. And last, but not least, I was walking out of my classroom when a colleague was coming around the corner w/ her class. She stopped dead in her tracks and said to me, "WOW! YOU LOOK HOT!" It has been sooooo long since anyone (excluding my hubby) has told me how good I look. I AM ABSOLUTELY LOVING MY BAND AND MY NEW LIFESTYLE!! PS~ My 3 month bandiversary is this Tuesday, Sept. 8.

I am not sure how much this is a weight loss NSV but still an NSV for me. Yesterday I finally got up enough courage to enroll back in college to get my bachelors degree. I have talked about doing it for years much the same as losing weight. Finally I have taken the plug and am moving forward and it's no longer just talk. So starting as soon as a few weeks from now I will be taking classes to further myself educationally and professionally. Now for a weight loss NSV that I have recently experienced is that I do want to get out and power walk in the mornings. I like working up a sweat and burning off those calories. I can't jog yet but I will get there. I am still just to over weight and to much of my body moves when I try to jog but I will get there. For now I am happy that it feels great to get out for the power walk and that I actually do enjoy working up that sweat. Congrat to Stephanie and Ann on your recent NSV's! I think these are the ones that really count deep inside us. They show to us that we are losing weight not just by the number but by how these make us feel. Good going girls and keep up the great work! Our goals ARE obtainable!!!

A silly little NSV for me: I am now more willing to bake treats for my kids.... before I wouldn't bake cookies, etc because I didn't trust myself not to eat too many of them!! The band makes me less susceptible to undisciplined eating so I'm not worried about that and can be the sort of mom that bakes cookies or brownies for the kids. I can now also walk past the treats at work pretty effortlessly. Man, I love this!!
