    help my husband lol

Anything, small gifts. Gift cards. A t shirt, socks, hair ties. I usually try to find something interesting or unusual , like a small desk calendar with daily useless facts or something like that. Snacks other than candy, like protein stuff. (beef jerky, protein puffs, shake sample packets) Possibilities are endless, tell him to get creative and think outside of the box. PS: For 19 years I have been with my spouse and I ALWAYS got a big bag of starburst. Last year I asked for sugar free treats instead of them to try out before my surgery. I hated 99% of them, I would rather go without. This year, I said I wanted starburst again! lol But, a small sleeve like you get at the gas station. I can eat 1 or 2 and be good for days or weeks without another one, so I would rather just enjoy them once in a while then not at all or to bother with the sugar free stuff. (I do good with sugars so I don't mind having a treat every once in a while)

    I cheated - now what?

Avoid drinking too much too fast, as it is likely to not only hurt but can do damage, especially being that recent to your surgery date. I would constantly sip all day long. It takes roughly 10 seconds or so for a sip of water to run to your stomach and through it, so to be safe I would leave about 30 seconds minimum in between sips to ensure it has cleared your stomach. And for safety's sake, if you feel a "new" pain, stop stop stop sipping until the pain fully goes away. If you constantly sip, you shouldn't have a terrible time reaching your goal. Once you are hydrated that thirst feeling subsides quite a bit. Best of luck to you.
  7. Hi Everyone! My name is Kristin. I'm happily married to an amazing man, that is my #1 supporter! I have 2 kids, a 19yr old son & a 16yr old daughter. I am 36 yrs young from CO! I had Duodenal Switch WLS on 7/26/22! I am 4 mons post-op right now! The biggest reason I had surgery is bc I'm a T2 Diabetic! I was taking 2 types of insulin, taking injections 5x/day! I was diagnosed over 10 years ago and I was just tired of taking insulin, tired of having to constantly check my sugars, tired of being overwhelmed by constant thoughts of nothing but my blood sugar levels! I was tired of being overweight, tired of being tired, tired of getting winded from my front door to my car, tired of being in pain from my knees, my back, & my hips! It was time for me to do something and when my husband and I found out our job got the SurgeryPlus+ benefit, it was time to take action!! Started the journey in April and had surgery in July, it went quick! My hubby and I flew to SLC,UT for my surgery! My heaviest weight was 293lbs before my 2week pre-op diet, my weight at surgery was 269lbs, & now I weigh 205lbs! Almost 90lbs down and almost to ONEderland!! This journey has been tough, hard, overwhelming, emotional, crazy, & amazing! Still looking forward to what's to come! Hope you will join me along my journey & I hope we can be friends!! Just taking it one day at a time! Sent from my SM-F711U using BariatricPal mobile app

    I’m HUNGRY!

Doing Noom the year before my 10/19 surgery it encouraged if hungry drink water and wait 20 minutes. Now I try the same. I find a protein shake works. It also gets me 30g protein. Either a good first choice. But I eat 5x day. I'm eating 1/3 cup meat 4x day or eggs for breakfast. 1/8 cup vegetable or baked yam or potato. My meat is 93% ground beef or Jenni ground turkey taco or Italian seasoned. Add guacamole and salsa to first and marinara to second.

    October 2022 surgery support

My surgery was Oct 19 and almost through soft foods. I still measure every meal. I have a 14 oz glass that I goal to drink 4 of. Try to eat every 2 hours. One protein shake a day. Just getting my energy back. Dec 13 I go to any food. Will skip steak bread for a.year. try one food a day. So far only had fast heart rate the second week. Spices don't bother me. Found ground turkey (Jenni) taco or Italian flavored, turkey sausage and looking forward to turkey bacon. 93% ground beef is treating me fine. Eating 1/2 cup, measured each meal, 5x day. Take the container when I eat out. I have a card party at Denny and Perkins. Omelet, tomato soup. Will continue with protein shake for the first year to maintain protein until I get to 1 cup.

    Stepper for exercise

My surgery date was 10/19 and only after a week or two of soft foods did I get some energy. Started using my treadmill.

    25 pounds down

I had my surgery on Tuesday and have lost 10 pounds since then. I lost 15 pounds on my liquid diet before surgery so 25 pounds down total. This makes me so happy.❤️
  13. most people do lose their hunger for a few months after bariatric surgery. Mine came roaring back at five months out. Enjoy it while it lasts....I wish mine had never come back. It is SO much easier to lose weight when you're never hungry and don't give a flip about food! Things get a lot harder once your hunger comes back. Again, there are days I wish mine had never come back - I found it very liberating, on top of making it easy to lose weight (I'm 7.5 years out now) I wouldn't worry about getting too skinny. For one thing, only about 10-15% of patients make it to a normal BMI, let alone get too skinny. There are a lot more people who never make it all the way to their goal than there are people who get too thin. Plus if you DO get too thin, you can always increase your calories to either stabilize your weight - or gain some back. I wouldn't let that worry me AT ALL.
  14. Tldr: fat guy got thin, chronic pain derailed him, now drinks and can’t move much, doc and therapist say suck it up. Feels lost and confused and has developed a slight booze issue, that thankfully is not a full blown problem, yet. Not asking for sympathy or prayers, just want to know if anyone is going through something similar and how do you deal with it. Hey everyone, I’m in a downward spiral here. The background is that I got my sleeve in 2018, lost about 100 lbs, got a new job with more more money, and I actually liked it, I felt awesome and was looking great. Fast forward to present day. I’m currently living with chronic back pain, the result of injuries about 20-30 years ago. Coupled with arthritis in my spine and neck, late developmentof scoliosis. Daily pain is a 6-7 on the pain scale and 1-2 times a week it can get to 9-10 on the scale. I still work for the same company but now work 100% from home, that part I love, but I no longer move as much and i can't travel like did. Honestly I can’t really, some days just showering and dressing is a challenge. I used to play pickleball, take light hikes etc. All gone. I’ve been told I’m too young, 52, and my condition is not severe enough for surgery yet. I do stretching and some pain management drugs if I get to a point I can’t cope with the pain that day but mostly I suck it up and deal with it. I have turned to liquor as a crutch and ashamedly can be a nightly thing. I’ve gained about 30 pounds back, I feel like a total failure and have lost my direction. I’ve talked with therapist, and doctors but kept being told, in short, “when live hands you lemons…” Honestly, I feel like life has kicked me in the balls and told me to piss off. I started this journey to improve and heal my life. And now I feel that my opportunity is being taken away. The daily pain and slow stripping of my thinner life has been a real mind f**k. I’ve been trying hard to get back on track and have had limited success but I try. But I’m tired, so tired of the struggle, it’s been nothing but since I was a kid. Water whoopsie

I'm 10 days out and did the same, not 4 ounces but less. I didn't feel anything other than my pouch making some noises, but I went back to sips.
  16. I Am Enough!

    August surgery buddies!

I'm good with an accountability check-in on Sundays. I have a different workout program that I complete that also includes yoga, VR Super Natural workouts, snow side-walk shoveling (LOL!), and personal trainer time. I think each person should write out what works for them and then hold themselves accountable on our Sunday posts. Did I TRULY make 10K steps for six days? Maybe not, but how many days did I reach my goal? We want this to be positive and uplifting as opposed to listing out what I did not get done. Being kind to ourselves is the utmost importance! So perhaps my routine could look something like this: Sunday - Rest day Monday Goal - 15 min treadmill, Body Groove Dancing 30 min, 15 min yoga stretch, mindful meditation Tuesday Goal - 15 min treadmill, Personal Trainer (1 hour), 35 min treadmill, mindful meditation Wednesday Goal - 10 min Les Mills upper body stretch, 30 min VR workout, Svelte workout, mindful meditation Thursday Goal - 15 min treadmill, Personal Trainer (1 hour), 35 min treadmill, mindful meditation Friday Goal - 15 min yoga stretch, Body Groove Dancing 30 min, QiQuong Yoga, mindful meditation Saturday Goal - 30 min bike, Body Groove Dancing 30 min, 10 min Les Mills upper body stretch, mindful meditation Each one of us will have a different plan for what we want to accomplish, and we can check in on Sunday and review what we were able to get accomplished!

    Meds and water

I only worry about it with the multivitamin because I hear it makes a lot of people sick to take them on an empty stomach. (Even people who haven't had WLS) I have never risked it so I don't know if it would make me sick or not. However, I drink a shake every morning for breakfast so I just take them with the shake. Once in a while (usually a weekend) I eat an actual breakfast. So, about 10 min before I am going to eat I take the vitamins with just enough water to swallow them and then eat. This is a small enough time I don't think it would make you sick. But again, I never tried without food so I may just be one of those people that vitamins don't bother.

    What am I doing wrong?

Our weight loss journeys will have similarities but lots of differences too. Yours just may lose at slower rate & that’s okay. I don’t think you’re being dramatic as your dietician suggested. This is a big emotional, mental physical (& financial) investment in your life so there’s nothing wrong or ‘dramatic’ about wanting to be sure you’re doing the right thing. Oh & don’t worry too much about not exercising & that affecting your weight loss. I didn’t do any & I lost all my weight & more. I just increased my normal day to day activity - used stairs not escalators/lifts, parked further away, did multiple trips up & down my stairs (why do one trip to bring up the groceries when I could do two or three). All I do now are some stretches to support my back & some resistance exercises with bands. As @catwoman7 said, exercising only accounts for 20% of your weight loss (though I read it was only 10% for most people). Of course there are many health benefits to exercising. Just find something you enjoy when you’re ready.
  19. I had my surgery Oct 19. I bought twenty 1/2 cup containers. I measure everything before I eat it, even in restaurants. Just moved to 1/2 cup. I eat every 2 hours. I drink a protein drink 4 oz every 15 minutes. I have a large sippy cup, 14 oz that I drink 3 of each day. I bought 4 large ice cube trays at Walmsrt, 1/2 cup to freeze and put in ziplock bag, portion sized when I take out a cube for a meal. I browned #2 ground turkey taco seasoned and put 1/3 cup in each, topped with guacamole. Same with Italian, topped with marinara and 2 cooked cheese tortellini. Turkey chili.

    October 2022 surgery support

Hey everyone, here's my update: Surgery was 10/11. I was 259.8 (heaviest weight) right before I started my 1 week preop diet. Down to 248 right before surgery. Current weight is 219. I'm now on a regular diet since week 6 (currently week 7 since Tuesday). I can only tolerate about 3-5 bites before I'm too full. I eat 4-5 times a day to get my protein in and prevent myself from getting sick due to my stomach being "too empty". I'm averaging about 500-700 calories a day most days. I still struggle to slow down when eating, especially if I've waited too long to eat. Work in progress. I have started back the gym this week. I have made a goal of doing a 5k in the spring, and I have gotten a trainer to help me until I get situated and comfortable around the gym. I had the dreaded 3 week stall. It lasted 3 weeks. Broke this week. I think the gym helped. I still struggle to get my fluids in. However, I feel great. I have turned the corner and gained energy. My mood is better as well. I have decided to take a weekend trip somewhere (that part is not decided) as a reward for getting into Onderland when I get there. My reward for going to the gym 4x a week for the next 2 weeks is a new pair of shoes (I really need them because my shoes have gotten too big since the weightloss, its a bonus to use them as a reward though). My NSV: I can put on my shoes without wanting to be taken out by a sniper. My back pain and knee pain are gone (I hadn't had the pain long though, so it went away quickly versus someone who had longer chronic pain). I have energy and smile more!

    October 2022 surgery support

I just finally broke my stall this week. Mine started week 2 and lasted 19 days. I don’t track overall calories but I started tracking protein and fluids. Turns out I wasn’t getting as much as I thought I was. I aim for 64 ounces of fluids (most of which is water) and 60 grams of protein. I also started moving more. My doctor wants me to work up to 150 minutes of movement a week. For now I’m just walking 20-30 minutes a day. Eventually I’ll add in strength training. I also switched to weighing in weekly so it was less of a focus for me. Finally this Monday the scale dropped from 192 to 189 (the last couple of weeks it kept shifting between 192-191) so I’m hoping the stall has passed. It’s hard not to stress about a number but I have also been noticing other changes. My clothes fit better and my confidence is going up. So I try to focus more on that then the number. Every doctor is different. I’m allowed 3 meals and 2 high protein snacks a day. Usually I don’t even eat all that. But perhaps reconsider what you’re snacking on at night. If it’s not nutritious pick a different snack. Or spend that time moving instead of snacking. This surgery is all about creating better habits. I was a terrible bored snacker and would binge eat constantly. I would eat something while already thinking about what I was going to have next. I work night shift so when I’m home I’m still up late and my family is asleep so there would be no witnesses to my episodes. Now I try and fill the time with something else. I walk on my treadmill, play video games, read a book, etc. It helps take my mind off wanting to snack because I recognize that I’m not hungry, I’m bored. Good luck. It will break soon I promise. In the meantime focus on what you can control.

    Weight gain

first of all, pouch resets are discouraged by most dietitians. It just puts you back into "diet mentality". Just go back to basics - protein first, then non-starchy vegetables, and then, if you're still hungry, a small serving of fruit or complex carbs. And log everything you eat so you know how much and when you're eating. secondly, the vast majority of us have a rebound weight gain of 10-20 lbs after we hit our lowest weight. It's just your body settling in to a weight it's comfortable at. I used to "attend" Unjury's Zoom support groups occasionally, which often feature speakers. There was a really interesting dietitian on once who said at her clinic, they don't even consider it a regain unless the person has gained more than 15% of their lowest weight (so for you, that's 25.5 lbs). I regained about 20 lbs in year 3 (it usually occurs in year 2 or 3, after you hit your lowest weight). It really bothered me for a long time, but clearly this is where my body wants to be. I could always go lower by cutting my calories, but then, I've been sitting at this weight for quite awhile, so it evidently is not as important to me as I think it is, otherwise i'd be doing exactly that (cutting calories). I know it'd be a struggle trying to get down to my lowest weight again and staying there, because my body seems to be comfortable where it is. Do-able, but it would be a lot of work and then a challenge to stay there. I've kind of given up the ghost at this point. if after tracking you find you're taking in too many calories and are doing too much eating while you're not really hungry, then do what you need to to get back on track (the suggestions people had of going back to your clinic for support - therapy and/or dietitian is a good one). But if that's not really the case, if this is just the normal rebound that most of us experience, then know it's just that...normal - and also, expected.

    Weight gain

Welcome, RDC. What procedure(s) did you undergo? What was your starting weight, lowest weight, and thus, what percentage are you talking about when you say you gained back 20 pounds? If you lost 200 and regained 10%, it is a very different scenario from losing a total of 25 and regaining 20. Most people on this board are extremely knowledgeable and willing to help, but you have to give the basic information for their responses to be helpful.

    Weight loss

stalls are common. Just keep following your program. If more than a month or six weeks go by with no weight loss, you can always lose more by cutting calories - if you're willing to do that. You and your body may or may not be comfortable eating less than 1000 calories a day, and that's fine. weight loss does slow down a lot the closer you get to a normal BMI. I'm trying to lose 10 lbs now, but it's REALLY hard. But then, there are only so many calories I can cut (about 200 is all). When I weighed over 300 lbs, I could cut 1000 calories a day and lose weight pretty quickly. Right now, it takes about 1600 calories for me to maintain my current weight. If I cut 1000 calories NOW, I'd only be eating 600 calories/day. That is not sustainable. Even cutting 200 cal/day is challenging, but at least it's do-able. But that also means that my weight loss is going to be very slow....only 2-3 lbs a month. as far as losing too much weight, you can always increase your calories a bit to stop the loss. So unless there's some medical problem that's causing the weight loss, you have control over whether you stop the loss or keep losing.
