I am 10 days post op, down 22 lbs and doing great---pain gone after 5 days and actually enjoying the diet. Have been really dizzy last few days, was thinking it was dehydration, but dr thinks blood pressure may be dropping and with weigh dropping fast, may be causing issues. Anyone experiencing this?

If you struggle with how fast you eat, put your fork down between each bite. It really does slow you down. When we have our fork in our hand most of the meal with tend to shovel the food into our mouths. I have had waiters ask me if I was done eating because my fork was on my plate & not in my hand. Dude! Don’t you know that the international sign for being done eating is a knife with the fork wrong side up in the middle of the plate with the handles resting on the edge. This makes it easy for the wait staff to put their thumb on the silverware so that they don’t drop it. “I’m done now, you can take my plate!”

Tips for not obsessing about food
Arabesque replied to doobie31's topic in Pre-op Diets and Questions
Oh, yeah the ads can be terrible. It’s why I record or stream almost every tv program I watch these days. Funny though I’ve been able to watch quality cooking/baking shows without a problem from the beginning (Great British Menu, Great British Bake-off, Top Chef, MasterChef, etc.) but ads for fast food & high fat, high sugar, etc. foods actually turn my tummy now. Social media can be terrible too. -
I had this , I think it’s cause we lose muscle too fast in that area, it took about 4 weeks to come right and a trip to chiropractor. Good luck

AHHH! You guys I am so excited. The last time I posted on here I was so discouraged and upset after having to reschedule a million times but I have good news! I had my consult, the doctor thinks I am an amazing candidate for sleeve surgery. I already did my psych evaluation this morning and passed with flying colors! All I have left to do for my requirements is attend one support group meeting and one nutrition class (scheduled for Dec 1st!!!). My surgeon said it should take me about 2.5 months from our consult to the surgery day! So crazy fast and easy once I got it started. I am over the moon about this! SO excited to finally take back control of my life!!! Thank you all again for the awesome reassurance and support on my last post. These forums are seriously the best source of support and information I could ever ask for!

I'm six months out and still struggle with eating slow enough when I'm on my own. I find the social aspect of eating with others helpful for pacing, or even if I'm alone at my desk at work I take pauses to do things (ie I'm eating lunch right now) but my last meal of the day in the evening when I'm alone I tend to just go too fast and make myself sick. Trying to work on being more mindful though.

Am I really going to live on 1000 calories?
Officially Not Fatty Matty replied to doobie31's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I’m 6’4” and my highest known weight was 356 (but likely higher as I didn’t weigh often). Like you I was pretty active and my daily calorie count was high. I never counted (still don’t) but an honest assessment of my past puts me around 4-6000 calories a day! I would eat huge meals. Despite that insane guess, I put weight on slowly over the years, averaging 4lbs a year… it’s not a fair estimate because some years I would lose 30 then put 40 on etc. but overall average of 4lbs since I turned 18 (I was 45 when I had surgery). Fast forward 18 months post op and I’m not able to enter maintenance. I’m trying so hard to not lose more weight. I set a goal of 240, blew past that then thought “ok 220 would be good” and blew past that. I’m down to 182 now, my wife and mom (they never stop being moms do they?) are worried - and have been since I broke below 200 in April. Anyway, for the first six months I survived on about 500cal a day. I should say thrived. I had zero problems with that low of a calorie count. I was more active than ever, still am. I feel healthier than I was when I was 16, seriously. The hard part for me was remembering to eat. The day would go by and I would realize I only had my protein shake in the morning. I’m still not hungry, and I know I’m in the minority for going this long without feeling any hunger. I literally eat 1000 calories of peanut m&ms a day. Literally. And I’m still losing. I know it’s probably the least healthy thing I could eat but they are small and pocketable and I like them enough where I don’t get bored of them. I simply don’t have the capacity to eat enough “healthy” meals to make up the difference. I do get regular blood work done and everything is perfectly in the middle of where it should be, vitamin levels are good as well. I’d say I’m close to maintaining, I’ve been between 190 and 182 for about six months but it’s still trending ever so slightly down. I guess what all this rambling is getting at is this: you sound a lot like me. If you are the type of person that can drop weight fast on a diet you’re likely to be wildly successful with the weight loss portion of this endeavor. Everything else is up in the air and seems to be variable for everyone. For me I have had no complications, no foods bother me, nothing tastes different (I hoped it would but it didn’t), I can and do eat whatever I want, but my restriction is so good (and it does feel good) that it still takes me two days to eat a burger, or four days to eat a chipotle burrito (and I don’t even finish it). I don’t have a problem being around food or seeing people eat. My whole relationship with food is completely different. I see it as an inconvenience, but I still enjoy good food and I seek out new and exotic things for fun, I just know I’m taking home 90% of what I order most of the time. My only complaint is my wife and mom think I’m too skinny, which is just an opinion, my doctors are thrilled with my weight and all associated / tested statistics, and as I said I feel absolutely amazing. I feel like I have another 10-15lbs to lose but I’m riding the struggle bus to keep that from happening for the benefit of others. 5000 calories? I’m disgusted with that person. 1500 - 2000 a day give or take is plenty 18 months out and I had nooo problem living on half that for the first year. This was - by far - the best money I’ve ever spent on myself. I’ve easily saved more than my surgery cost ($4400 in Mexico) and I have only great things to say about every aspect of it. I wish it was this easy for everyone. My wife had it done too but she has lost nothing at this point. She eats less than I do, but she never lost when dieting before so we should have known a smaller stomach wouldn’t have helped. I don’t think she needs to lose weight anyway, she’s perfect. But my opinion doesn’t count in her mind :) she has some underlying heath issues we’re working through which we believe contributes to her crazy slow metabolic rate. So I see and live with both sides of how surgery works and doesn’t work for some (if you’re a slow “loser” reading this and you’re on plan and doing everything you should, I BELIEVE YOU, even though everyone assumes you’re not on plan. I know how hard it is for you, and I’m so sorry you’re going through this. Don’t give up, find a doctor that listens to you and believes you too and start looking for why, and stop going to doctors that don’t listen. Don’t let them give you self doubts (end tangent)). Best of luck to you. I wish you the best. -
I am about 2 months post-op and my stomach is very "loud" sometimes. I'm not sure what causes it, but I think its pretty common. I've read that it gets better with time. I've noticed that it gets worse when I've gone too long between meals or if I eat/drink too fast.

Am I really going to live on 1000 calories?
Chantrella replied to doobie31's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm 8 months out and struggle with getting 1000. I have 0 problem meeting protein and water goals daily. Usually I don't go over 500 to 800. Which sucks. I get full really fast. Hopefully this improves for me. -
Is my weight loss normal?
Arabesque replied to ReginaH's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
There is no right or wrong rate of loss. There is just what is right for you because we lose at our own rate. Many factors influence your rate of loss: age, gender, starting weight, genetics, etc. You’ll find in all your weight loss experiences there are averages but with all averages some do better & others not as well & that’s ok. There’ll also be things you’ll have in common with some people & things you won’t. Remember, how fast or slow you lose doesn’t affect whether you reach your goal or not. There are some things you can depend upon. The more you have to lose the faster you lose to begin. The closer you are to your goal the slower your loss will be. And you likely will experience at least one stall (usually lasting 1-3 weeks). Good luck. -
I was very afraid too. The time went fast and the next thing I knew it was surgery day. The first 48 hours were the toughest. Just remember to walk as much as you can. I did 10 minute walks every hour during the day. I think it helped to get my stomach settled. The first sips were yucky. Room temp crystal light is what tasted best to me. Hang in there, you’ll do fine!

As @NovaLuna said, signals get messed up post-op. It could be thirst, especially so soon post-op when you're still trying to get enough hydration. It could also be very slight acid reflux (for me this happens if I eat too carby all at once, or if I eat too fast, or if I drink too soon after eating or vice versa). If you wait a half an hour and it goes away, it wasn't hunger. And some people have hunger after surgery. My surgery "twin" @lizonaplane said she feels hungry; I am just now, 10 weeks out, starting to sometimes feel hunger, but almost in the background. Everybody is different, and every body is different.

I was also diagnosed with diabetes type 2 no meds just dieting (which was not my thing 😂) and exercise. My surgeon told me your glucose levels will start to get better. I’ve read that in most cases or about in 85% diabetes would be cured aka go into remission . I have seen my numbers come done from an average of 150-160 fasting pre-op to pre-diabetes number 100-120 which is not bad at all. And again I know all bodies are different. I would love to read from fellow members that have gone thru same experience, and theu marvelous tool of weight loss surgery and lifestyle changes their diabetes has been cured, gain better control or gone into remission.

Is GERD worse in the beginning months after surgery?
vikingbeast replied to lindseylovesdogs's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I will say that I had GERD more often earlier after surgery because I wasn't yet used to how I need to eat and drink. I'd eat or drink too fast and then WHOOPS here comes the acid! Now that I know what I need to do, I only have a little bit. I think I've taken Pepcid once in a month. -
How much did weight loss slow down for you?
lindseylovesdogs replied to lindseylovesdogs's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i'm not really able to eat aside from protein shakes. i can finish maybe 1oz of soft/puree foods. im not really exercising because im too weak/dizzy most of the time. i know the answer is probably just that i should be taking in more but im not sure if the loss is becoming too fast. -
How much did weight loss slow down for you?
lindseylovesdogs replied to lindseylovesdogs's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i know, its just that i've lost half of my excess weight in two months. i don't think it's supposed to be this fast. and honestly i don't think my surgeon is keeping track of me well enough for him to worry. -
How much did weight loss slow down for you?
lindseylovesdogs posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So, after the first month and after the first plateau, how much did your weight loss slow down? at what rate were you losing? like around month 2-3 i'm starting to worry that i'm losing too fast -
WLS is a tool, you have to work with it. I wish WLS was magic and work on it's own but it isn't. I have to work with it. I have to log everything, food, vitamins/minerals, exercise. I have to change up macros all the time, or as TheRealPennyD said intermittent fasting and other change ups to keep losing weight. Do you log what you eat, exercise... Etc.?

Am I done losing after 5 months?
TheRealPennyD replied to brooketw's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Have you guys tried to shake things up during your stall? Not your diet/calories but other things like doing different exercises (if you walk 3x a week start biking or doing stairs), or trying intermittent fasting. If it were me I would focus on protein goals and start doing body weight (strength) exercises -
Weirdest None-Scale-Victory - I'll go first
ms.sss replied to chiquitatummy's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Oh that wasn’t my first drinking with a post-wls bod. im 3 years out now and drink quite regularly (bring on the concerned comments, I’m ready!) my fIrst attempt at alcohol was 3-4 weeks post. I had maybe two sips of red wine and it slightly burned a little and I swear I could feel it travel down my intestines. With so little drank, it had no effect on me. second attempt was closer to 2 months post had a few sips of a sugary soju drink and I had a several hour long dumping episode. Not pretty. I probably had 5 or so PARTIAL drinks my ENTIRE weight loss phase. It got me tipsy quickly even with small amounts of less than 1/3 a drink, and I could tell I wouldn’t be able to drive….but I also sobered up really quickly. fast forward to now and i can drink maybe 2 drinks in succession (like in under an hour) and be pretty toasted…if I nurse the drinks over a period of time I can keep from getting too drunk. And I still sober up really quick. oh and I mostly stay away from sugary mixers if I can help it… -

Am I really going to live on 1000 calories?
Tony B - NJ replied to doobie31's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have to agree with all the posts on this. I could not imagine going down to 800-900 calories per day either. I actually struggle getting more than that in on a daily basis. Yes, if I went crazy and ate fatty foods and fast foods I could, but with healthy food choices, it is very difficult. I eat a lot of fish which is very low in fat and calories and high in protein, particularly tuna and cod. You will not have a problem staying satisfied. -
Anyone Ever Cancel Their Surgery? I Did... Not Sure How I Feel
huskymama replied to You Are My Sunshine's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have my sleeve in December but that being said I went in for my wisdom teeth to be removed 3 times and walked out all 3 times fast forward 30 years I still have my wisdom teeth lol I can tell you from my experience with that - not the same but kinda - get some therapy before you reschedule the surgery. You have something deeper you should deal with and it is okay that you walked even at the front desk. I was in the chair all three times and freaked out so don’t feel bad. But therapy helped me through it. I still have dentist that want to take out my wisdom teeth and I’m like nope I’ve had them all my life they can just stay at this point haha. Maybe the holidays coming up is part of it too. I’m having mine December 22nd and getting out of the hospital Christmas Eve. I still have 2 kids at home so I am anxious, I am pretty positive everyone is. Good luck!!
