I was sleeved in 2010 and lost a couple of stone then asked the doctor for revision surgery in 2016 and had a bypass August 2021 not much has changed just more protien which isn't a bad thing got told by the surgeon I'd only lose 3 stone I lost 45lbs up until the end of November not seen anyone since I've lost more but not been weighed I wont have scales in the house been there done that but everything is looking good , good luck with your surbery -

I’m so excited to get the surgery over with. . I had sleeve surgery 9/2017 and having complication s. Part of my sleeve is in my chest and it’s painful. Hope to have better luck with gastric bypass. -

I had a gastric sleeve surgery 9/2012. this year I have had horrific GERD. After the endoscope and swallow test ,they found the gastrointestinal hiatal hernia. The swallow test showed the hernia and severe GERD with divertculum on the stomach wall. I have a manometry test next week but my dr agrees that I need hernia repair and revision surgery June 16 is my surgery date. -

I didn't know you could be resleeved. I thought it was a one-and-done thing and if a revision was needed, you go to RNY or DS. -

Hi! I don't have MS but I have RA. I know it's like comparing apples and oranges, but they're still fruit. They're both still autoimmune diseases. I've had umm about six surgeries since my diagnosis and I've never experienced a flare from surgery. I do experience flares still occasionally, so it's not that I do not flare, but surgery never brings them on. My rheumy attributes my lack of flares to be that my RA is pretty much in remission. My rheumy is my biggest cheerleader for getting revision to RNY. She says getting to a more normal bmi will decrease inflammation and make my disease even milder. She says if I do flare after surgery, no problem, she'll just administer a steroid injection. So your neuro cleared you for surgery, they must feel that the benefits of the surgery will outweigh the risks. If you have any doubt, schedule another appointment with your neuro and discuss it with them. Has your wls surgeon okay'ed you for continuing the celebrex after sleeve surgery? I stopped mine after committing to revision to RNY. I had to know I could survive without it forever. I wish you all the best! -

I would love to see this move to a post op board! I had my Roun Y revision on 4-5-22. Also a hiatal hernia repair. Gosh everything you said about looking back at the logistics of bed mobility, going potty, napping! I spent my first 2 nights at home in my recliner for comfort. My belly was bloated and surgical sites tender. I only really needed Tylenol for pain. Please remember how important hydration is for healing. The complications are frightful if you get to far behind or worse you let your GI system go silent. Just take baby sips of water or whatever is in your list from your doctor. The worst is hopefully behind you. One sip and one step at a time we will all succeed! -
Regret and Shame. I had a Roun Y 23 years ago. The first cpl years were maGical! The weight dropped off, my skin snapped back, I could do any activity I wanted. Then somewhere between 2-5 yr I started having one more bite, a glass of wine, a bite more dessert and so on. I don’t really have dumping or a ton of restrictions. I eat like everyone else eat the table. I started putting on 10 pounds at a time and finally reached my pre op wt. Because I had an open procedure it took a long time to find the right doc to do a safe revision. My revision was last Tue. I will stay true to the guidance for the long haul. It is a precious tool, but I have to take responsibility for what passes my lips. I’m great full for the community and the support.

YES! I have a co worker having a revision with another doc in town. Her pre and post are totally different than mine. I miss coffee but it was a small sacrifice for a second chance. When you get to the other side just follow the guidelines. Be well! -

Hi, I had a revision of a Roun Y on Tue with a hernia repair. The hernia has not slowed my healing a bit. Surgery was Tuesday with an overnight stay. I’m doing light chores, driving and shopping today. My doc keeps us on a liquid diet for 2 weeks and protein drinks. I tried broth, it was ok. But just paid a bit more for Bone Broth… wow! A new favorite! Flavors are wonderful and still on plan. There is never really a great time to take off work for surgery. But you will know the best time for yourself and your family. -

I had the ESG with Dr. McGowan in Cary, NC Oct 14, 2021. VERY happy with him, all his staff and everyone at the Wake Med hospital. FIRST CLASS all the way! That being said. Day of surgery my weight was 253. This coming week is my 6 month anniv and I have lost down to 227. Yes it is great! but I was so hoping for more after 6 months. I reassure myself that my skin will adapt better by losing slower, I haven't had any hair loss, etc. But I am 54 and ready to live my life! This baggage is in my way and keeping me from living my life the way I want to. A few months ago, the nurse put me on Topomax to help with cravings (as my insurance will not pay for Wegovey or other "weight loss" meds- I was a self pay for the surgery). Several months after the surgery I asked the question . . does the Dr. make everyones' stomach in surgery the same resulting 20% size?? or is everyone's different because ... Patient A's stomach could hold 5 lbs of food, and patient B could only hold 1 lb of food. So did they both end up with same size stomach pouch? The answer is no. He gives you stomach pouch that is 20% of YOUR stomach size. So that is why some people can hold more than others. Makes sense. Kind wish I had thought about it pre surgery though! I'd asked for an extra small one! LOL I don't feel a lot of restriction anymore. So I am wondering where do I go from here? Should I ask for a different medication or increased dose of topomax? Does Dr. McGowan have a way to do a scan or ultrasound and see if your sutures have come loose or if your pouch has stretched out? Do they have a way to do a revision and put in tighter sutures or make a smaller pouch? and if they do . . is it the same cost as the original surgery? I know I am under their care program for a year that includes nutrition counseling, etc. Is there a cost to continue that after a year? Anyone who knows answers, please let me know. I want to be able to think about things before my zoom call later this week. -

hopefully someone to respond. When sleevers revise, it tends to be to bypass or DS (duodenal switch) - but I think I've read about some people re-sleeving. Hopefully someone on here has done it and will respond to this.

Hello All! I had a Roun Y Revision done on April 5. My original procedure was 23 years ago and over time I gained 100% of my weight back. Since my original was a full open surgery I had a hard time finding the right surgeon to revise me. A lot of research, switching ins plans, and a lot of grace….. I found the Right Doctor. I was in the hospital over night. Walking at midnight with my nurse. Completed over a mile of laps around the nurses station before I came home. Since being home I have only taken Tylenol 3x! I am sipping along my clear liquids and feel really good. I really like Bariatric Advantage shakes with water. I plan to lean in to the support available this time. -

I had the sleeve done about 7 years ago as an outpatient. Went home a few hours later. I recently had a revision to RNY for gerd back in August. I spent one night and left the next morning. -
They've said they have it loose to avoid complications. I had mine tight for 13 years and it didn't help me lose a single lb. In my opinion they're nonsense things. And to answer the OPs query, biased as I am, I'd do what I did a couple months ago: whip it out and revise to a bypass which has the added benefit of actually working.

Nope. I had the band, revised to RNY, and had this and every other problem with it. Never lost a single pound with it either. Can't help with the weight gain unfortunately. -

Hi! I'm new here, I just googled "Weight Loss Surgery Discussion Boards" and this is the first site that popped up. I hope I'm in the right place... I had Open RNY GB in May of 2002. My weight the morning of surgery was 310lbs. I lost over 100 lbs in the first 10 months and got down to my lowest weight of 153lbs about 2 years after surgery. I was feeling fabulous! However, over the years, I was able to maintain at about 170-180lbs consistently, until I gave birth to my son in 2012. After he was born, I wasn't able to lose all of the weight I gained during pregnancy. I was around 200 - 205 lbs at my lowest after he was born. But, due to some other life circumstances and traumatic life experiences that happened to me in 2016, I have gained back over 100lbs and am now sitting at about 268lbs. I'm crushed. In May 2021 I decided to research revisions and found a surgeon in my area (St. Louis, MO) who specializes in revisions and I found out that I am a candidate for a revision to Duodenal Switch. After meeting with a dietician for 6 months, psychologist, primary care physician, etc. I'm finally having my revision next week... April 14, 2022!! I'm so scared and nervous this time around. I don't know what to do or where to go. I wasn't this nervous before my first surgery and I think it's because I didn't have as much to lose back then when I was 21. Now I have a 10 year old son who is everything to me and I'm terrified that if something goes wrong, he won't have a mom. Has anyone else in the forum gone through this and if so, can you please share your experience with me?- 8 replies

Have you thought of revision to VSG or another surgery? Unfortunately without restriction, it'll be very difficult for you.I know because I was one of the unlucky ones that if there is an extreme side effect with a WLS, I would fall in that category... Lapband (erosion) and VSG (severe gerd, esophagitis). Surgeons have stressed that it was no fault of my own. It just happens. I finally had a revision to RNY and feel so much better. Tracking food helped me before my revisions. While I had some weight gain, it wasn't too much. Looking at the list of food in my food diary always helps me realize it is head hunger vs real hunger. Yeah the pain meds don't help the gas pains. It sucks. When I had my lap band removed last year, I did take activated charcoal capsules for the gas pains and it did help. But I won't take it after my revision surgery because it can cause prevent absorption of nutrients. Do you use CBD oil for your chronic pain? I use it and it helps me a lot. I have RA. -

As a former Lap Band patient I understand exactly what you're trying to explain. It could be esophageal dysmotility. My band was always tighter in the morning and during that time of month. I had a Mirena placed, and that helped a lot. Are you considering band removal and revision surgery? -
