I got my 2nd fill yesterday. I have a total of 3cc's in my band. (only 4 cc's allowed). I am having a hard time even drinking liquids. I wasn't sure if I was having a hard time due to swelling or maybe I am just not used to what restriction should feel like. One minute I have problems with eating yogurt, oatmeal or drinking water and then a hour later it goes down just fine. I know that food should stay in the pouch but if anything sits in there it is uncomfortable and like there is a weight on my chest. Is this normal? I was wondering if this is common for others and whether or not I am just feeling this because my fill was so recent and was wodnering if it would stop after swelling went down. Any advice is appreciated.

Feeling discouraged depressed
lisacaron replied to deeberry's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
@@deeberry I'm sorry your having a rough time of it. The first thing I would do is make an appointment with the Dr. If your too tight that is defeating the purpose. The more irritated your belly gets from throwing up the more inflamed it makes the stoma around the band and the tighter the opening of the stoma can be making it more and more uncomfortable. In the meantime go back to liquids to give the stoma a rest and maybe ease some of the swelling as well as to reboost your weight loss. When I get into that spiral that is what I do. I take it back to basics. If I am swollen and it can happen sometimes just from certain foods I eat if they are too spicy or if I am sensitive to them, or even medications that I take. It can even happen as a result of a cold or allergies where I have excess (nasty) stuff in my throat and my band is tighter. I give it a rest and just revert to a shake now and then and once I feel that it is relaxed and not irritated I will resume eating solid foods. If you think you don't need to be unfilled and just need a rest, then try doing liquids for a few days. If your still having trouble with the yogurt after a couple of days of liquids then you need a small unfill. I know it can be devastating when your not able to move around like you did before. I broke my foot a few years ago and I had to be totally off of it and I was in cast and then a boot for nearly 4 months. The plus part of that was while I was on crutches I was getting so much exercise having to lift and haul my body weight around I actually LOST weight, but that was long before WLS. As you can get to moving around more start to incorporate that into your daily activities even if it's just a few extra steps or a couple of parking spots from your usual spot etc. every step counts!! Let us know how your doing...and don't give up hope!!! We can reset our minds and our bodies any time we choose to, and make a fresh start. So let this be your new start...and here we go!!! -

4 wks post surgery, gaining weight and panicking
kimba6999 replied to Happygoomom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello and sorry to hear your troubles. I am just about 6 months post and i have had a couple of stalls during my journey. You mentioned you r havinf problems getting in ur protein? From experience i can tell you that not getting in ur minimum could be causing the problem. It is very important to get in your Proteins. I know you are still newly starting but do what it taoes to get in ur protein. I eat 800-900 cal a day on avg and i eat 80-100g of protein a day so it is possible. Just choose food high in protein, low in fat and low in sugar. I do not count carbs but thats because i dont eat things carb related. I eat whole foods, i occassionally eat a slice of bread but whole wheat or have mashed potatoes but homemade no box. So my carbs are healthy carbs. You will have stalls, its part of losing weight in any form. Just dont get discouraged. My NUT told me that your body will acclimate so you need to change things up every 4-6 wks. So i change up my exercise routine and my eating plan so my body no longer has time to adjust. Gotta keep her guessing! This was not a waste for you. Just eat high protein and get at least 64oz of Water and get in exercise daily. Once you can start really working out get yourself a good routine and as a suggestion for exercise, do your research! I warm up and the do strength training and then my cardio. You will burn alot more calories and for a much longer period. I feel being well informed on this journey is the key to success. Just stay positive and tell that doctor to take a hike. My surgeon is one of the leading surgeons on gastric surgery. His team has done some of the most ground breaking surgeries in thi field. I have had the greatest success with the team here. They are here for every worry and question i can think of and kindly help. I also agree with a previous post about a support group. It will really help you to find one around you. You need the support especially early on when you have so many questions. I hope this encourages you. If you have the time just do some research. Remember to stick to high protein, chicken, turkey, fish, greek yogurt, cottage cheese, whey protein isolates, and more. Good luck and if you need help or have questions and i can be of service plz feel free to ask. I will help if i can. Btw, i started at 356 and am now 252. Down 104 in just under 6 months, so doing what ur supposed to does work. Let me know how your doing in the time ahead. -
Well....the three spoonfuls of yogurt I had just came back up....and with it....a pill I had taken this morning. I've taken pills since I was filled on friday, cut them up, even one little one I take swallowed whole. Well, this was a time released Wellbutrin (so I didn't want to crush it or cut it) and it's rather small. Now, all day long I was drinking Water, drinking soy chai tea...I didn't eat anything except a piece of fudge (well, it was a holiday! and it melted in my mouth...went down fine) and I had about a quarter cup of chicken broth. I was amazed that the pill didn't go down, and that it was only partially dissolved. The pain is gone now. Guess I just had that pill floating around all day and finally it got stuck in the stoma. Wow. That pill is small...like say...a straw opening....is that too tight a fill??? Perhaps I'm still swollen. But I've lost 8 lbs since friday!

one week post op general questions!
JamieLogical replied to Tessa-VSG's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
1. You should only be doing "birsk walking" to start out. I wasn't cleared for more intense exercise until 2 months post-op. You should discuss this restriction with your surgeon. 2. That guy is an idiot! Of course you should be drinking Protein shakes while you recover. None of us are working out in the first few weeks post-op. Some people never work out at all. But we all need to get our protein in and shakes are the only way to do that in the early months! 3. You should have been given a food stage schedule by your surgeon or nutritionist. At one week out I was on "full liquids" which included protein shakes, strained cream Soups, and yogurt. 4. There is speculation on whether sleeve size affects how much weight on can lose and how hard it is to maintain, but the conventional wisdom is that long term results are pretty consistent across the board and that slight differences in sleeve size don't really matter. -
What was your first food after the liquid stage?
rosiec223 replied to QueenEB's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I made a black bean puréed soup. YUM! Then next meal was puréed hard boiled egg with either low fat mayo or Greek yogurt. That’s where I am right now. Love hearing the other options thanks everyone! -
Re: Is this what restriction feels like and port lumpiness?
dfox3325 posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm passed surgery 111 days and I had my third fill on November 17th (9 days ago) taking me to 5cc. The second one was too tight and I couldn't swallow liquids, so they took it down about 6 weeks ago. Now I'm back up to the same, with less problems but more questions. I can't eat solids in the morning, only liquids and yogurts. lunch I can eat thick Soups. dinner some solid wet foods. I'm not a burper, nor someone that vomits. So, when I eat something too dry, etc. I have that really bad chest pain which I lay down and get into a yoga position while massaging my lower stomach, this seems to ease it. My issues are gas and a bit of nausa. Like I said I don't burp, I gurgle. So, by the end of the day, I am miserable with gas pains though out my stomach, back and lower intestines. I pass gas terribly, which releases it. The pains move around all day. My port area is a little sore too. I have been sneezing a lot and slipped and fell on my butt a day before my fill so I don't know if I pulled something or not. The only other thing that about 2.5 inches around my port site is real lumpy, but I guess that is normal since the doctor would have been poking around that area for the fill and he didn't say anything then. I have lost almost 50 pounds and things are starting to poke out all over me, like hipbones! Unless, everyone around me has been sick with intestinal flu, even though I'm not throwing up or diaherria, maybe that's what's going on. I called the doctor, but he's in surgery today and I haven't heard back. I just don't feel myself. Any input out there??? -
Yogurt has been slowing me down - I SWEAR!
Wheetsin replied to christasha's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Low calorie tends to be high carb and vice versa. If you enjoy yogurt, and carbs seem to have that much effect on you, go for the low carb options over low cal/low fat. You can always omit it and add it from your diet to trend its effect. Maybe it was coincidence, but tracking it for a few weeks will help you figure out for sure. -
I’m on day 5 post op and I agree it is major surgery similar to what I experience having my gall bladder out or a c-section. I am doing things little by little and feeling better everyday but need to take tests in between and focus on healing and how my new stomach communicated with me. I’m on phase two which means I can introduce yogurt but I’m scared and still on liquid proteins. I don’t have hunger like I used to although my stomach does have another sensation that comes and goes... trying to figure out if it’s too much liquid, it’s empty or it’s just shocked I’m putting something in it:)

Diet Pills during Post-Op?
WrenBird replied to RoxyChick's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Please understand that I mean my responses in the NICEST possible way. You still need a lot of willpower for the band to be successful. The band does 1/4 of the work, you have to have the willpower to do the rest. Some people get the band because they're hungry all the time...I'm sure if you told a thin person who's hungry to stop eating, they wouldn't. Where I'm from a doctor will only approve a patient for LAP-BAND if they've tried everything else and failed. I'm assuming this is going to be different in other places, but I think it's a pretty important factor...I think that surgery should be the last resort. Lucky. For some reason appetite suppressants didn't work as well for me as the band did...I don't think you should regret the band until you get your first fill. I felt the same way :-) You need to do what's best for you. No judgement here on that one! Uhhh...I don't quite know how to answer your question then lol. I felt the same way as you did (except I may have been a bit more pissed off than you). I was in depression for a few weeks after the band because it wasn't supressing my appetite. After I'd had a fill I felt great and everything went fine. I know how agonisingly annoying it is to hold back from food, but it gets easier. So far I've lost 15 kilos in under 2 months. That's 33 lbs. I didn't really start losing my weight until I got a fill. I exercise for 10 hours a week and don't eat refined sugar or carbs. For me that's been as tough as hell to overcome. I remember sitting in my bed thinking about the full fat yogurt downstairs in the fridge and crying to myself. Yes, crying. I then remembered eating a giant pizza right before my surgery and crying AFTER that...I think knowing how bad I'll feel after eating it is my greatest motivation to keep away from food. I really hope this works out for you. I know this isn't something you wanna here but...It gets easier :-P -
Did Not Succeed
Cleo's Mom replied to Want To Be Thin's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There have been some good suggestions about talking to your doctor to see if your band has been placed and is working correctly. You didn't say what kind of sick you got but I assume it was band related - thus the 2cc unfill. If your band is okay and you can't for whatever reason get a fill at this time, and you seem like you can eat most foods - then I recommend that you just count calories. Stay under 1500. At your weight you should be able to lose at that calorie level. And eat healthy foods that fill you up. High Fiber, salads with lots of veggies. Wraps with lite deli chicken or ham. Baked potatoes with I can't believe it's not butter spray. High fiber cereals. And lite oatmeal. Lite Soups (progresso makes good ones). Whole grain crackers. Protein bars (special K makes a great choc. Peanut Butter Meal Replacement bar). Don't drink any calories. Just crystal lite. And Water. Use skim milk. Get lite whole wheat bread for toast. For fruit, use no sugar added cups of fruit (they come in 1/2 cup sizes). For Snacks try sugar free pudding, Jello, or the fruit. I mix the jello and sugar free peaches. Use a little fat free whipped topping. I hate cheese and yogurt but you could try that, too. Try this for about 3 weeks and see how it goes. Exercise daily, too. Do something you like. Take a walk. Join a gym. Lift weights. Take a dancing class. Whatever you like. Good luck -
Fyi.. Unjury protein
Jackie Murphy replied to ShantelleElaine's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try the unjury unflavored in orange juice...can't taste it or even detect it...that's the only way I get all my protein in....I agree it's nasty in yogurt, milk and flavored waters.... -
I am struggling please help
jeanettecamacho07 replied to Elyne's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
50/50 water juice blend, decaf tea, crystal light is way better, low fat milk, yogurt. Try mixing protein powder any way you can and which is tolerable to you. Good luck. Im two weeks out and I found Vitamin shoppe to be of great help. -
I had 3 days I did not lose weight when I changed to phase 2 of diet. I did not worry about it to much. I am now down 18 pound and am feeling great. My husband had his surgery today and is doing well. He says his stomach is growling and he is hungry. I have been getting my 60 grams of protien barely and my 64 oz of fluid. It is hard because I am not hungry and the soup is getting old. I got tired of tasting the protein powder in every thing I eat and drink so I am now having a flavored greek yogurt for breakfast with 11 g of protien an Isopure drink with 40 g of protien maybe a shake or an egg. I eat soup for lunch just for the taste. The longer I stay on the phase 2 the less I want to eat ever. I seem to be sensitive to smells as well. I am excited about the weight loss and pray my husband recovers as quickly as I have.

I’m a month out tomorrow and I’ve lost 51lbs. I’m on stage purée but I can’t bring myself to eat any of it. I tried drinkable yogurt but it makes my stomach all gassy and gurgle-I’m afraid I’m lactose intolerant now. Same thing happens with SF popsicles and SF jello. I thought those things were supposed to be a given 🤷🏼♀️ Can anyone inspire me with something to enjoy eating err drinking? I bought a fancy mixer just to be able to have things but I’m not about to blend tuna like my binder says 🤢 Help!

Don’t want to eat, I mean drink
FluffyChix replied to Ellandriel's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Part of what you are experiencing is the natural and normal phenomenon of post surgical bowel sounds and gurgles. LOL. I have it and I'm 18 months out. It does usually get a little better. Stick to easy. Protein Smoothies Protein frappacinos and teacinos Iced protein coffee Blended soups (added protein powder) Canned cream soups (added protein powder) Ricotta Bake Cottage Cheese + apple sauce or sugar free preserves Greek Yogurt + apple sauce or sugar free preserves Making tuna or chicken salad then whizzing it up in a mini food processor. So good actually. Just a smooth texture. But taste is awesome! -
Full Liquids - 10 Days Post Op
Kelligirl replied to HadToDoIt40's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I am 5 days post op and not full liquids yet. But I think you may need more protein, cottage cheese, liquid yogurt, egg custard, sf pudding. I am looking forward to trying these next week. Your diet was my 2 week pre-op and protein shakes are not settling well with me. I found a recipe for full liquids on this thread and it's cottage cheese and tomato sauce in a ramakin. Taste like lasagna, sounds good right now. Hang in there & keep me posted. -
First week & Second week
triplethreat replied to madisunshine1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My plan was different, I was only on clear liquids one day after surgery then went to full liquids for two weeks. I only had Protein shakes and Water. I'm in week 1 of soft foods which is a 2 week phase. I eat scrambled egg, cottage cheese, puréed foods, Greek yogurt, shredded soft cheese, Soup, etc. My team doesn't want me to worry about fat content or calories for the first two months-- just focus on liquids and protein. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I added powder laxative to my yogurt during the first week. I also found the pill form that is the tiniest pill I ever saw, no problems swallowing.

Just got advanced to mushy foods!!! What are some of your favorites!!! On them for 4weeks so I need some variety!!! I have yogurt...cottage cheese....instant potatoes....oatmeal.... squash...all my favorites. But want to know what you all ate to get through!!! Happy Happy!!

Definitely not thinking you're hungry- this is the mindless hungry I would have given into pre-band but does not mean hunger. I have seen someone on the forums post this about hunger: if you are hungry, you will open the fridge and eat whatever is there. If you're not actually hungry, you will search the fridge for the "perfect" thing. I know I'm hungry when I start to feel the grumbling in my stomach. My stomach actually growls too, but is not much louder than pre-band. When my stomach growls, I am at a place where I should have eaten earlier and I am ravenous. This is also a time when I am weaker in my decision making, so it is always in my best interest to have something healthy either prepared and ready or a healthy snack (think Greek yogurt and light string cheese) so I do not eat something I will regret later.

Frustrated Beyond Belief & Having Second thoughts ...
Mrs.RRn replied to Emilysmom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Keep your head up! I know you might not want to hear this- but they may have been a reason your surgery was delayed. Everything happens for a reason? This is just part of YOUR story! 1) shoveling it in? Haha. I'm 3 weeks out and I don't want to even think about solid food yet. Yesterday was the 1st day I ate 3 oz together- 2oz tuna salad + 1oz Greek yogurt for dinner. 2) I never had children, so I can't compare the pain to a csection. But I can say I survived with no pain medication - but hey, everyone's different. My pain was pretty mild. 3) like I said, I'm only 3 weeks out, so I still consume very little. I eat about 2 oz for Breakfast (yogurt or cream of wheat- something like that) -- a Protein shake for lunch (8oz, but takes a while to get in), dinner- (a little tuna, tuna salad, tonight I'm making chicken salad! Mmm) and of course I sip Water all day-- I'm getting around 50-something oz of water a day. But that took practice-- the first day after surgery I only got in 5 oz of water. Good luck!! I'm sure everything will come out great!-- maybe not like you planned, but great!
