Mermaid out of water! (My journey)

Figured I'd give myself a little bit of an update. SW:289 CW:254.8 GW:150 NSV: pair of shorts are falling off of me! As I go ahead moving on this journey, I do not know if I want my goal weight to be 150. I will see how my body goes and find a weight that I will be comfortable with. Going back to work is really hard, I've been having intense stomach pains that only happen there. It might be from the anxiety I feel about my job in general. I fit in the bath!

I hear you. A bath is such a pleasure for me. One of my big NSVs post-op was the day I was able to get back down into and back UP OUT OF the bathtub. (My knees / legs were so weak after being heavy for so long it took a while for their increasing post-op strength to match my decreasing post-op weight.)

    Fabulous NSV....whats yours ?

Medium!! Isn't that awesome?! Congrats! My NSV is size this week too. I finally couldn't take the bagginess anymore and took myself to get some shorts, wearing the same size 24 capris that I was wearing last summer-- but were getting ridiculously baggy. I have been losing a lot recently, so I didn't want to spend a bunch on new clothes that might not fit next month, so I went to the salvation army store and searched high and low for shorts and capris that I liked.. I could only find one pair that were size 20 but looked smaller, I got 4 size 18 and 5 in size 16 so I would have some stuff on hand. I got home and tried everything on-- the 18's were the perfect fit! And the 16's are closer to fitting than I ever thought they would be. I can see them on the horizon

  8. This time last year I was 265lbs I wore a size 20 pants/skirts and a 2x shirt. Today, I am down 90lbs (since January, sleeve February) Weight this am is 175 lbs I wear a size 10 shirt or MEDIUM and in pants Im a 12 or MEDIUM... did you notice that I said MEDIUM!!! OMG I can't remember the last time I wore a MEDIUM anything! lol I ordered new scrub pants from Amazon....medium petite and agonized over my size decision until they arrived and I swear I held my breath when I tried them on...completely expecting them to be uber tight. I almost cried when they fit perfectly! OMG who is this person?? hahahah Happy holiday weekend to me! What is your NSV for the week???
  9. NSV Finally, loved a pic of myself. Scale Victory made it to 100## loss earlier this week.[emoji322][emoji322][emoji322]

    How about some NSVs!?!?

Hi all. Here's my latest NSV. First though, I will start with an SV. I hit Onederland!!! I have now lost 86.9 pounds total. That SV sets the stage for my NSV! I attended a birthday party of a good friend who I hadn't seen much of lately. WE both have very busy lives and hadn't gotten together since January. Not only that, but most of my friends who I know through him I hadn't seen since before surgery. The number of double takes, not to mention people who never quite seemed to figure out who I was, was such a surprise to me. In fact, one of the guys who didn't seem to get it figured out, usually gives me a hug when I see him, but I barely got a hi out of him last night and he seemed like he couldn't quite place me! It was pretty crazy. I guess I see myself everyday in the mirror so although I am smaller, I just don't see THAT much difference in overall looks, just smaller space occupation! I guess its kind of remarkable when you haven't look at it in the mirror everyday! pam
  11. Here's my "knees and WLS testimony." I had WLS at 68 years of age. My knees were a complete mess -- especially the right one. The most I could bend them was a 45 degree angle. For years, my knee x-rays looked like gravel bars -- full of stuff that had shredded off the cartilage and mineral deposits that had accreted around those bits and pieces making them even larger. And yes, I had very bad knee pain when I was heavier and had suffered for years. Sometimes the pain was so bad I even had to use a cane. I'd discussed knee replacement surgery with my PCP, but hadn't gotten to the point of scheduling it. But I knew it was in my future. Then I had WLS at 235.6 pounds. I set my weight goal at 150 pounds, which I hadn't weighed in 40 years! At 5'5" a normal BMI for me started at 149 pounds. I didn't care -- 150 pounds seemed like a nice round number. BTW, I stopped taking Aleve and all other NSAIDs a few months prior to WLS. Yes, my knees hurt, but a few weeks after stopping the NSAID I realized they didn't hurt anymore than they had on the Aleve. Fascinating, eh? Eventually, 8.5 months after surgery, my scales rolled down to 150 pounds. I was at goal. By that point, needless to say, my knees felt a lot better. I wasn't doing black diamond runs, but I was walking up to 5 miles a day -- and fast. They still didn't bend anymore than they had before, but they were a lot more functional. One of my health goals for that first year post-op was to be able to walk up and down my front steps without holding on to anything, a goal I blew right by! I no longer felt like an old lady. So at 150 pounds I upped my calories to 1700 and started to maintain. But I slowly, slowly kept losing weight -- 1 or 2 pounds a month for the next 8 months. Eventually, my body stopped losing weight at 135 pounds. IT WAS THOSE LAST 15 POUNDS I LOST THAT MADE THE GREATEST DIFFERENCE IN MY KNEES! No, they still don't bend anymore than they once did. But at 70 years of age I am working hard (in yoga) on increasing my flexibility. My PCP told me to take knee surgery off the agenda completely -- I don't need it anymore. I can walk as far as I want and as long as it's still light outside. I can even jog a little. Not saying anyone else would or could have this result. But this was mine. It is one of my greatest NSVs from WLS.
  12. Last year this time I was frantically getting ready for surgery and focusing on getting my business in a position it could run itself for the 6 weeks I thought I might be out of commission. Turned out I only ended up not working for about a day Anyway, last year I went to a summer fair 4th of July weekend and walking around and stuff was pretty tough. It was hot and humid and I was carry my portable chair with me for concerts. It was hellish. This year I am down over 135lbs from my high weight and bursting with ungodly amounts of energy. I plan on having a good time this weekend. This includes kayaking, bike riding, and climbing those hills at that summer festival that killed me last year with ease this year. What are you doing?
  13. Hello! 187.2 this week. Whaaaat? NSV: I bought a bathing suit in a size large and I don't look half bad in it - haha! Thank you for running the challenge! Have a great week all!

Question for veterans - hardest part for you?

I'm 14 months out but I remember stressing about changing everything about how I ate. In the end, this new way of eating feels comfortable now and i can't imagine going back to my old habits. My biggest struggle is going to the gym because it's not my favorite thing to do but I committed to exercising at least 3 days a week for 1 hour and I've been sticking to it. I'll slip in a little NSV here and say that after losing over 100 pounds I'm coping so much better with the 110+ weather we're having. I used to really suffer and now I bop around and think "this isn't so bad!" Yippee.

    Two Weeks to Go!

So sorry you're disappointed @RosieCheeks- I was reading somewhere that our bodies are hard wired to try and maintain or get back to our highest weights. I know it's disheartening, but look at all those lovely NSV's you've had! It sounds like the protein thing might be a factor, as well as the calories. I'm trying my hardest to get 700-800 in a day, and it really made a difference to my first stall. I described the journey as strange, mainly because the times I lose weight I don't feel any different, but when I maintain, or don't check myself too much I feel much more confident. I'm approaching the point at which I can say it's the lowest weight I've been in recent memory, which blows my mind. Something I struggled with this week: lunch time. I'm getting a fair few funny looks and comments about content/portion size. Those few people I've told at work are always wonderful and change the subject quickly, but I have a training day with lunch provided next week and a networking breakfast that are already making me nervous! Keep going, don't worry too much- we're all going to get there! MB Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Guys who started over 400 lbs.

Congrats all, update on me Jan 4th i weighed 440. Surgery March 23rd weighed 399.8 today weigh 341.8 I get my first lab tests for Vitamins and such Wednesday and hoping to be under 340 by then. Had horrible side stitch pain for about a month other then that nothing to bad. My only comorbity was sleep apnea and wife says I snore a lot less. I ran a 5k (well ran and walked on Jun 4th.) Coming along, a recent NSV: I went to get gas and the person behind the counter recognized me from before when I used to get 2 hotdogs before work and she was impressed at how much weight I had lost. 20. Hi all, I'm also so glad for the OP posting this I'm 13 days post op and everything has gone really great. The only pain I ever really had was first thing out of the op in recovery from the gas- which after "something to help" from the recovery Doctor I was absolutely fine when I woke up in my room. My program allowed 3 nights in hospital which although I didn't think I totally need it, it was very nice to be looked after I didn't need any pain meds during my stay- and I was able to toodle about my room and the hallway for little wanders about. My stitches were tender but absolutely fine. The first days at home also meant first purées - I was so worried about all the horror stories about not being able to stomach foods that I was very apprehensive, but it's all gone down very well and I haven't felt sick once- especially when you stick to your measures. The only problem is maybe wanting to try a bit more challenging foods when you feel too brave but I know I have another week of purées so I'm making sure to resist the urge. I've also been walking an average of 4-6kms a day this week to get my stamina back up (back to work on Monday )- I've really been enjoying my danders about and 10kgs down since the pre-op diet has even meant hills feel easier One thing I need to stop doing is weighing myself every day- there has been a wee bit of a stall last couple of days which I've been disheartened about but I've realised weighing every day isn't a heathy way of monitoring- i need to focus on the "NSV's" like being able to walk up hills with out getting out of breath 2 steps in I'm excited to see what the next few months bring. All the best everyone! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Two Weeks to Go!

Morning all! Just thought I would drop in and let you know about my NSV last night! (Admittedly, it started out with a bit of a nightmare!) I was happily sitting at home, in my pjs (no judging) after dinner last night when I logged into my work emails. I was waiting for a client to send something back that I needed for today, and being the paranoid soul I am, wanted to check it was in my inbox. I logged in, and to my horror, it was not. (Wild panic ensued). I then checked my outbox and to even more horror, my last email was stuck there! Long story short, dashed out of my PJs into the first clothes out of the closet and raced to work to send the email properly. It wasn't until I got home that I realised the jeans I had slung on were the ones I had bought before surgery, that wouldn't even go over my thighs. Admittedly, they were still a bit tight on the tummy, but I am taking that as my first NSV thank you very much! Hope everyone is well! MB Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
