What is your rate of weight loss???
faicy125 replied to mav2126's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have Lupus and it triggered something in my small intestine. To cause me constant contracting pains. I felt like I was in labor 24/7 and drinking fluids only intensified it. I then became sooooo... Dehydrated. I had to wait for it to just pass. The (flare of Lupus) that is. In meantime... I had to be fed nutrition through tube. Now... I do have cravings. But, I don't feed into them. I started off at 211pounds. No currently 180lbs. I skip day's of eating because of nausea.. Sent from my Z982 using BariatricPal mobile app -

I've never been to Peace River myself but I've heard only good things about it. I'm sure you will get there one day soon. I've heard of Mount Vernon.. funnily enough I've never been to BC myself.. would love to go one day though. I am sorry to hear about your stomach.. I hope it all gets cleared up soon and is nothing serious. My left side was more bruised than the right and I bruised badly because of the blood thinner injections I had to have after surgery. I was told to expect more bruising on the left side than the right as a lot of the work and such was done on the left. Sent from my SM-G960W using BariatricPal mobile app -

Lyndi84 I am in Central Ohio, in a small city, named Mount Vernon. Population 19000 if you count dogs, cats and bunny rabbits. I am old enough 72 to have been in BC and not on a school trip! But my dream, and it's one I have yet to achieve, had this dream since young adulthood. I WOULD BEFORE I DIE LIKE TO SEE THE PEACE RIVER COUNTRY! There I admitted something few outside my immediate family ever knew. Will I ever get there? IDK but it is a pretty dream. As the lyrics in South Pacific said You gotta have a dream ! But if don't have a dream ? How you gonna have a Dream come True? I had my RNY last Wednesday Morning at 7AM, that was a dream come true. This was at Ohio State University-Wexner Medical Center in Columbus Ohio, a Totally, wonderful place. Now I have something weird, 5 days post surgery and the entire left side of my left abdomen is purplish, warm to the touch and swollen, not where the left side ports are, they are exempted, I DO NOT know what caused,it, so I have to return to my surgeon Dr Needleman, have him doa strong look over, after that who knows? Hope I don't need readmitted, it is a very fine place but there's no place like home! And it,looks like an alien took me over.🍀👼 -

How old were you when?
RnYBeyhive replied to xoxococojay's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I started the process to have bariatric surgery last year when I was 23, I’ll be 24 on surgery day. Surgery was my last option, I was sold on it after a younger friend who also has PCOS experienced success with the sleeve. Honestly I finally became fed up, I shouldn’t feel this bad at this age smh. Had I known how difficult losing weight would be for me I would have pursued surgery when I was 21/22. -
Extreme anxiety about surgery at nighttime
looly replied to Oct517's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
This reminds me of going to Canada and seeing all the "A fed bear is a dead bear" signs. Well, I never saw a single bear, but the mosquitos nearly ate me alive! 😨 Where were all the 'Beware the mosquito" signs? Similarly, the surgery seems like the painful part, but it's not really. The sign should read "Beware the wind and constipation!" And even that wears off after a bit. ☺ Keep your chin up. After a bit of a struggle, you'll give birth to a beautiful baby new you - totally worth it! -
Sleeved 9/5/18 Still in hospital

Day 4 after surgery. Really struggling with heart burn and getting any fluids in. Trying to be more scheduled about it now but it’s tough. Just had about 4 teaspoons of thinned mashed potatoes. They tasted great but I could not even touch the recommended 1-2 tablespoons. I have lost another pound. I would say first week post op is harder than clear liquid preop. Mostly bc I’m dealing with this heartburn issue. -

9/5 here also. It’s been a rough few days. I was fine in the hospital. Mostly slept and walked when they told me to. Since I’ve been home I’ve had a lot more pain and I think I’m having heart burn??? I’ve never had it so I don’t know but it’s terrible. I have to crush my pills and everything gags me. I finally switched to trying popsicles last’s night and it was great. But halfway through s popsicle I hit my limit and I never EVER want to do that again. I am having pain in only 2 of my incisions and irritation in my throat bc it’s swollen from the tube. I’m better today than yesterday. But it’s going slower than I’d hoped. I’m not getting much in at all. -
Summer 2018 Surgery Buddies: POST-OP Discussion
Megan Sadler replied to Ylime's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So as promised my enchilada recipe well my brothers with my tweaks in parentheses Ingredients 2 lbs chicken breast (get free range, free of antibiotics and hormones) 2 cans Mexican stewed tomato’s (go organic!!) 1 can diced green chili’s (I actually used 1 fire roasted pepper instead of a can) 2 green onions (organic!!!) 1.5 lbs cheddar cheese (go for grass fed, raised hormone and antibiotic free) Enchilada sauce (honestly we just use the store stuff but I’ll be swapping to homemade whole 30 red enchilada sauce) And tortillas— Bake the chicken at 350 for 23 minutes and let cool. Once cool shred and mix in the tomatoes juice and all, the chili’s, the onions, and 1/2 cheddar cheese and 1/3 the enchilada sauce put some enchilada sauce on the bottom of a 9x13 sauce pan and warm the tortillas. Dip each tortilla in enchilada sauce then put some of the chicken mix inside and wrap up. Place in the baking dish. Bake for 30 minutes at 350 covered then unconvered add the remaining cheese on top for an additional 15 minutes. Serve with Mexican rice (cauliflower rice!!) and sour cream :) enjoy. -
Summer 2018 Surgery Buddies: POST-OP Discussion

girl i feel you. i lost for 2 weeks after surgery and then just stopped (right around when i could eat more than puréed) and i stalled the rest of the time until just yesterday (which was 6 weeks and a day post op) so just trust the process. our bodies are adjusting and doing weird things. my dr told me stalls happen bc your body isn’t used to eating so little and it goes into starvation mode. another thing i’ve liked to do is take measurements at the beginning of each month. in my first month post op i lost an inch around every spot except for my bust! so that was cool to see even though i wasn’t losing weight. just try your best to trust the process, and when you have doubts and feel down, that’s what we’re all here for! -
Man, thank you so much for your honesty. That's what I'm scared of. I don't want to get the sleeve and then turn around and get the bypass bc I basically failed w/ it. I've heard some stories where the sleeve wasn't "strong" enough so to say to stop people from over eating and basically they feel right back into the same life style. And I personally know someone who had the band, worked very well, but then he slowly just started eating bad again and gained ALL the weight back plus some and now is a horrible diabetic! Just scary. But thank you! I'm sure I'll figure it out.... xoxox
-
Ummm yes LOL. I started this WLS journey like a year and a half ago. Its complicated but the surgeon recommended bypass at that time. I stopped the process due to an injury and then started back up. I want the cost covered the surgeon evidently works for multiple hospitals not just ours. I was never told hey we aren't going to cover the cost bc we cant perform it here, and then the office lady didn't realize that the doctor had recommended the bypass and just submitted for the sleeve bc that's what's she thought I was seen for. So its an ugly complicated mess. No GERD. Or acid issues that I know of. Just diabetic. High blood pressure. Retinopathy. And all the other fun things you get being over weight, and a diabetic basically your whole life lol

Sleeved 9/5/18 Still in hospital
TX4everLinds replied to TX4everLinds's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@mandy1013 I’d say just follow the rules. Also after my surgery when they brought me clear liquids they brought waaaay too much. So remember the rules you’ve already learned about sipping and tiny amounts. They brought me three medium sized Cups with broth, caffeinated tea and diluted apple juice. I told her to just keep the tea snd I sipped the other’s. You gotta follow the rules you know bc the people at the hospital may or may not get it. Take your tooth brush! Walk a lot! Don’t be nervous. You’ll have plenty of time for that afterwards lol. For instance I’m nervous to drink anything! -

Im doing pretty good! Got home a few hours ago. Still have the gas pain and incisions are tender. I’m afraid to drink anything bc I’m paranoid about drinking too much or not sipping correctly. -
Post op/op details. Still in hospital. Leak test scheduled for the AM. Gas pain and pressure is no joke! The feeling of needing to burp but not being able To is annoying. Have walked some and peed some. More details re: intake and actual day of to come. Thanks everyone for your support! I’ll post every retrying on this thread for myself and others. Nothing has been a major surprise thus far due to the generosity of those willing to share on these forums. Dry lips, dry mouth, swollen throat. It’s all real but easier to handle bc I’ve been informed by y’all!

Serious Post - Looking for Help
YeahOkay31 replied to craziikid307's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
The world has lied to you. They told you that being fat is the worst thing in the world. Not being mean, or a bully, an elitist, a miser, materialist---none of these are as bad as being fat. Think about that. Think about that complete and utter BS the world has fed you. They shoved it down your throat, and now the thread of thought is in you and it is poisoning you. Right now, craziikid, this is your real problem, not your weight. If you don't learn to value yourself for more than what you look like you are never going to get out of the fog. Listen to your man, look at your successes. Despite the world telling you that you will never achieve anything or have people who want to be by your side, you do and you have. Yay, you are fat, but you are worthy as any other f*ck out there. That is the real truth--but they don't want you to know that, because how else are they going to sell you their diet pills, how else are they going to make themselves feel superior? Being thin is all a lot of being got. You got a whole lot more. You know you do. I hate to go all body positive on you, but that is what you need right now, to give a big old middle finger to society and be fricking happy, girl. I don't mean to simplified it, but being happy is sometimes a choice--take it from one sick mind to another (read my profile if you want details). Then, when you are at that good place, if you want to get back on the dieting horse, do it, but do it for your health. Not for some made up, manufactured ideal of what a person should be. -

Sick of eating the same food! What are the best low carb tortillas?
Dfox1984 posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Im nine weeks out and I FINALLY go to the doctor tmw so they can weigh me and give me the go ahead to be on regular food! I’m SO sick of eating the same things all day every day! What are some healthy, low carb options for me?! I’ll be honest, I’m also very sick of meat in general. I feel like that’s all I eat I can only eat about three bites of food so even if it’s not super low carb it will be ok bc I’m barely eating but 500 cals a day. Thanks for any advice/ideas! How Long Post-op Until You Were Able to Eat Carbs & Fried Foods Again?
Eva.delac replied to Littel_Urchin's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
French fries, tator tots, any potatoes really.... they just make me so full after one or two so I steer clear. Pizza I will eat very sparingly, maybe a couple bites once or twice a month bc it’s easy for the family to just have a quick easy mess free meal. Fried foods I stay away from as they aren’t fulfilling and I like to fuel my body, not drag it. So no potatoes for me, def no fried foods. I stick to grilled chicken, lean beef, cooked veggies, fruit galore, water water water, and frozen yogurt as dessert sometimes! -

Good morning everyone!! How did you do yesterday? Any good word for us? Yesterday was pretty easy. No hunger or deprivation--but come on, with huge meals like the ones from yesterday--how could anyone feel deprivation? But you know...whah! It didn't have cheese or gooey stuff, and wasn't in the form of a casserole! No pasta, rice, bread, or potatoes! The hell??? And it was a "feast day"=holiday. Bet you didn't realize Labor Day was a feast day. Right? LOL. ROFL! I got all of my walking in -- and beyond, but I was gonna do my core exercises and didn't pull it together to do it. This morning as expected after a day of clean eating and drinking lots o plain water, I'm back down a couple of pounds to 163.6lbs. It's not enough of a diff to go change my ticker. LOL. So I will wait until next Monday to change things up for the week. Today is an UD for me which means I get 1000cals. I'll still keep my basic proportions, but will use higher fat items/carbier items to use up the cals. In actuality according to the diet, my UDs should really be about 1200-1400 cals or more. But I can't bring myself to eat that many cals. I'm so afraid of gaining! So I may have to just take baby steps to get back up there so that I'm doing the full UD/DD rotation and getting the best metabolic benefit. *Forgot to mention, tonight is trivia night with our friends at a local wine bar. So I will have one glass of chardonnay and "whoop it up" then have iced tea in a wine glass. I'm so wicked. I used some of my fat for the cals in the chardonnay. Also, I will likely be adding my psyllium husks in to get more fiber and I'll be damned if I'm going to count the calories OR the carbs toward my daily totals goal. LOL. So I'll make my menu, then add it in to try to get higher in fiber. Ohhhhhh the little head games we play with ourselves--and the rationalizations... 09.04.18: Up Day (UD) 1000 cals: 30% Protein (75g); 15%Carbs (38g--total non-net); 55%Fat (61g); 25g Fiber; <15g daily natural sugars Brekky 1: Decaff; Colace; Miralax B2: 2 over-med eggs with sauteed super greens trio, broccoli and mushrooms L: sardines nicoise salad (sans potatoes) AS: mozzarella cheese stick + roasted almonds D: grilled chicken; steamed broccoli with butter; avocado/tom salad BS: Granny Smith apple with FlufferNutter Dip (Vitacost Peanut Butter Slim PB Powder + WF Marshmallow Dip) Vitamins: 2 multis, 1500mg Ca Cit, 18mg Iron + C; 100mg Thiamin; 1000mg B12 subling -- don't count the values into daily totals for cals/carbs. Sue me. (click to enlarge) -

Ok, so don't know that I will take pics every day cuz I'm compelled to go in and color correct etc. And I don't have time or energy for that. LOL. Here was today's food. I'd post afters but they were clean plates. The thing about being AR is that I know how much I can eat by now. So I only serve what I can eat. I probably won't end up eating the BS cuz I finished dinner at 8pm and it makes no sense to try to eat again in 1 hour. But I did actually have 3.25oz of pork loin. Cals were well under 500 for the day and protein was 67g which is fine. Carbs were under my limits as well and fat was fine too. OMG. I'm such a nerd. Breakfast - Egg White Puff Lunch - Chopped Shrimp Salad Dinner - Roasted Pork Loin with Broccoli Tomorrow is "Toosday" and is an UD. I will attempt 1000 cals that do not include a bunch of crap. -
GERD but want to have sleeve
Sleeved36 replied to notmyname's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
This is a tough one bc there is no guarantee how your body will react. I had the sleeve, but totally would have had RNY if I had GERD preop. I had terrible GERD when I was pregnant and I never want to go through it again! I have serious compassion for all of you out there with chronic GERD. You said you read a lot of research. Just curious, have you read any that included the elevated risk of esophageal cancer with chronic GERD?
