    3 week stall.....

So im dealing with the dreaded three week stall. It is VERY annoying and although i know it will pass it is still a little frustrating. How long did your three week stall last????

    No loss

Yes let's stop talking about the "3 week stall" Around here and start talking about the more serious 6th month stall! I have been at the same weight for about a month....

    When was your first stall?

I never experienced the infamous 3 week stall (by which I mean my weight stopped dropping around week 3 after the operation) but I did have a quasi-stall that lasted about 2 and a half weeks. My weight basically stayed between 184 - 185lbs. I was really worried. As I posted in another thread, I feel this was because I stopped following the 30/30. I started taking a swig or two of milk right after eating a meal or snack OR I'd have a few swigs of milk, then immediately eat a meal or snack. My rationale was "I won't eat as much because there's already a little something in my stomach". Yeah...about that...my weight remained a steady 184/185. Finally on Saturday night I decided to get back on the 30/30. Today is Wednesday and my weight is 180 lbs. (I weight every morning and every night, so I could actually see my weight starting to go down from that one change)

    A challange!

Ugh. I absolutely need to join you in this. I had my surgery on a Thursday so I was thinking of weighing in every Thursday morning (of course that was after I weighed this morning ). Based on everyone's experience of a 3 week stall, mine is coming any day and I need to break that habit!
  5. Pretty sure I hit my 3 week stall a week early. I'm thinking it has something to do with me losing 20 lbs on my pre-op diet + 18 lbs the first week and a half post-op. I'm averaging between 59 and 77 grams of Protein per day and getting in all of my fluids (60+ oz), so I'm pretty sure that's not it. I haven't even started pureed or soft foods yet, just liquids. And, for me, that is Protein shakes, Water, and an occasional 12 oz bottle of G2. I'll have Soup broth a couple of nights a week if I'm feeling it. Any ideas on how to break it? I'm pretty sure this has been posted several times, but I can't seem to find the post.

First week with no weight loss

I noticed we had surgery only 4 days apart. First let me say you have already done an amazing job with your weight loss! I had a 3 weeks stall recently that finally broke last week and I was so thrilled to see the scale move again. I was still losing inches during that time as I bet you are too. My surgeon was not concerned at all when I saw him last week. You will break through this stall! I found increasing my water intake helped a lot to get things moving again.

    Should I expect a stall?

Odds are you will stall at some point. But it sounds like you are mentally prepared to roll with it. I skipped the 3 week stall (at least I think I did, I never weighed very often early on). But I hit a month long stall at 6 weeks out. In fact, I gained 3 pounds, but dropped a whole pant size in that month. Just goes to show the numbers are irrelevent. Good for you on your company WLS policy! I am self employed and there are no individual plans available in my state that cover WLS so I went self pay to Mexico. At least I had a big medical deduction on my Schedule A last year!

@@Erato Calliope Thanks for responding! I'm glad to hear you're doing good on your diet and have tested the waters to see what works for you. Personally, I didn't see the difference of pureed and soft food as long as you chew everything up to a pureed consistency. I advanced my diet a little ahead (braces for the stone throwing from some) but suffered no problems doing so. This is just a disclaimer, anyone reading this should not take this as advice to deviate from their prescribed plan for their surgeon or nutritionist! Today was actually my first day seeing the scale move since my "3 week stall" that happened in my 4th week. This is the first stall I hit, but I'm told it won't be the last. Stalls aren't so bad, they help the rest of your body, skin included, try and catch up with what you've lost so quickly. Sorry that you had to go back to work, lol! But it's good you got to take some time off to adjust. To be honest, I have head hunger a lot right now. I see things that trigger those old memories of eating a ton of Cookies or chips and salsa at a mexican restaurant. It was extremely hard not to just grab them and dip those chips in like I used to when I went to eat with family. I know this will pass but it's hard to see that far ahead right now. Anyone battled this before? When did it get better?

    May 19th Sleevers

Hiya! I had my sleeve on 5/18. I'm supposed to be on my 2nd week of soft foods but I'm really able to eat whatever as long as it's not to crunchy. I actually prefer to have shakes at least for one meal. Today was my first day back at work. So far so good. I hit the "3 week stall" in the middle of my 2nd week. It lasted about 10 days. It was discouraging until I realized it was very common. How are u doing Dysruption?

    3 weeks post-op weight stall

The 3 week stall is real. IDK if you read many posts here but everyone posts that they get it and it doesn't last forever. Stick to your plan, exercise and the weight loss will start again. Hang in there!

    I’m concerned it’s not working

Looking at your start weight, it is entirely possible that you managed to avoid the dreaded 3 week stall until now. Divided up that is still almost 4lbs a week which is double what I've ever lost in one week. Be kind to yourself and trust the process. It is physically impossible to not lose weight after surgery if you're being compliant. That being said, are you getting your water and protein? Exercising at all? If you changed any of those habits it might be why your weight slowed some but that's a huge difference to be explained. Whatever the cause if you are doing what your doc recommended you literally will lose the weight. It just might come in more "stops and starts" than you want.

    Dear 3 week stall..

I think I've reached the other end of my 3 week stall, but my weight loss definitely has slowed down. It makes me want to strangle the people who say it's all "calories in - calories out". Well, if that were the case I'd have lost A LOT more weight by eating only 600-800 calories a day.
  13. I agree w/Tiff, but then again I always agree with her. I had a hard time when I was moving from liquids to mush to solids. Everything tasted wrong, and would upset my stomach. I lost 35 pounds in the first month because I got tired of trying to eat something that didn't effect me poorly. I also had doubts about the sleeve working, but they passed once I could actually handle some Tuna, and from there other more solid foods. My first 10 weeks were a roller coaster of emotions, food problems, a 3 week stall where I thought I was not going to lose another ounce. All I can tell you is that the further out you get from the surgery, the better you will feel about having it done. Your body will heal itself, and you will get to a place where the sleeve feels like the best thing going. I still have stalls, it's just the way my body works, but during those stalls I make sure to try on clothes that I know did not fit me, because I still lose in size even when I am not losing on the scale. I hate to say it, but TIME is what will make things better. Keep your chin up and try to take comfort in that 18lbs that are gone. Think about how long that would have taken you before the sleeve, and if it would have stayed away or come back to visit you over and over.
  14. Ok so 4 weeks out and 18lb down (still in the 3 week stall ), I am soooo tired of liquids. I'm ok with scrambled egg, and Soups even some with a few small noodles in, but I've tried to vary this and keep being sick. I'm tired of the couple of things I can eat, and need more inspiration, but I'm also worried that at this rate I will NEVER get on solids without hurting myself. I've slowed my eating down, I'm only going for small ammounts of soft stuff, what else can I do? I actually doubted my sleeve for the first time yesterday. Thanks in advance. Cx
  15. I am right there with you! We are in what's known as the "DREADED 3 week stall." Just stay the course, we will adjust.

    Fitness for the unfit

I'm starting my 4th week out of surgery, and have hit the dreaded 3 week stall as I transitioned to soft solid foods. I looked at my calories eater vs. calories burned ratio for the past 2 weeks on fitday.com and saw that I'm burning 20% less calories since starting solid foods. I'm not yet cleared for any exercise but walking, but clearly something had to be done. I don't like walking in the mall, the neighborhood, anywhere. I cant stand walking without a destination. I am so out of shape walking is about all I can do, though. I found a walking DVD and tried it out this morining, and it solves my problem completely. It is a 30 workout by walking that burns calories equivalent to a 3 mile walk. If anyone else is in my situation, here is the info: Leslie Sansone's Walk at Home: 3 Mile Slim & Sleek Walk DVD It wasn't too hard for me, which means it isn't too hard for anyone lol, and is a great way to ease into exercise when you're heavy and out of shape. I plan to do it every morning before my shower.
  17. First and foremost, I am so thankful that I was able to have the VSG procedure. Secondly I have had a very good recovery period (few little issues but nothing major). Third, I have great spousal support and family/friend support. (Please know I am not bragging just giving background information. I have lost 36 pounds total (24 since surgery 5/29/13 and 12 pre-op liquid diet). Here is my issue: I feel like I have stalled with my weightloss. I have read an article about the 3 week stall. I will be 5 weeks Wednesday. Wondering if my stall is now? I have just recently (last week - returned to my gym (healthplex through my local hospital) had great session talking with staff and setting up my routine). I will be starting back full time this week. I am following my WL Clinics guidelines in regards to diet - getting in my Protein (on the lower end 60 grams) and Water (on the lower end 64 oz - sometimes little under) What can I do to start seeing a loss again? Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Note - I weigh once a week on Tuesday's and occassionly on Monday morning to see if I am on track for Tuesday's official weigh in (that is day I record and measure and yes I have had inches lost). Am I just being impatient because I am so excited about the weight loss I have seen thus far? Thanks in advance for reading and letting me vent/whine. I know this is a hard journey!!!
  18. Can you give us a picture of what your eating, how much, fluid intake, exercise routine? this would help immensely. You might of just had the cursive 3 week stall. Can't wait to get this info. Wish I could help more at this moment, but will after info.

    Is it possible?

I had surgery October 15th. With preop dirty and 2 weeks after, I lost 40 pounds pounds. Since then, the scale has not moved at all. It has been 2 1/2 weeks. I get my protein in everyday and try to get all my liquids in. I'm scared to death that I am someone who the surgery will not work for. I am eating so much less but its not showing on the scale. I have done research on the 3 week stall but do they last 2 1/2 weeks? I am so upset about this! I have so much more to lose and it seems I have plateaued already. Anyone have advice? Thanks!

    Pre-op appointment on Wednesday

Everything went great! I'm feeling great! Next Tuesday will make 4 weeks since my big day. I think I've hit the dreaded 3 week stall. But I'm not fretting it thus far. As long as I'm not regaining...I'm good! Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App

    Post op stall wth

I was sleeved on the 26th and have been in a stall for about a week now. I eat about the same amount as you. I hear its possibly the 3 week stall and that this is normal as your body tries to adjust and heal.
  24. Yep, we usually call it the 3 week stall. Sounds like you got an extra week! Stalls are just part of it. You will hit many. Hopefully, it won't be as many as I did. Just keep doing what you are supposed to be doing and it will come off.
  25. I know stalls are normal. I expected to have them. But I'm only 7 weeks out. I've lost 28 pounds. Nothing to frown about. But that was all in the first 4 1/2 weeks. For 2 1/2 weeks I've been stuck. Being this close out, at first I thought it was the famous "3 week stall" come a little late. But, alas, no movement. Now, I work out 4 to 5 days a week. Both cardio and weight training. Wanted to tone to minimize loose skin while I dropped. I burn at least 700 calories during workouts. I eat only Protein... Ie: chicken breast, shrimp, eggs, turkey, and Protein shakes. I make my shakes with light silk for added protein and some extra calories. So now I'm up to about 600 calories give or take, no more than 20 carbs, no more than 20 grams of fat, and usually about 70 grams of protein. My calories when this started was 400 or less. This started when I was still on full liquids. If anyone can think of something to push me out of this, let me know. I'm at a loss.
