How often do you see the dr. after surgery?

I saw my surgeon 10 days post op then a month from that date and now 6 more weeks. Idk after that, I just wait for my appointment and go from there.

    Not feeling any different

I had my surgery a week ago and I am still on the liquid phase. However, sometimes I still feel hungry even after having 4oz of tomato Soup. I'm not getting the "full" feeling everyone else talks about. I'm afraid I might be doing something wrong but I'm not sure what it could be Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    August 17th Banding Date

Well in two days I will be banded. I am looking forward to it, but am wondering about all the complications I have read about. My husband says you wont' know until you try. I will be self paying $11,000. I have been busy the last two weks entertaining dlegates from our Sister City in Japan. They just left yesterday, so I haven't had much time to think about it, which is good. Aslo our daughter had a baby on Saturday, August 12th. she was just 5# 12 ounces and a real cutie. I have been taking care of our 4 year old granddaughter so her parents can make the adjustment to two. We drove today 30 minutes to Blackfoot to pay for the surgery and to find out when I am supposed to show up at the hospital. I learned today that I am suppose to be there at 6:30 am. My husband works in Idaho Falls just a half hours drive further north. He will drop me off and then come back to se me later in the afternoon. I will spend the night at the hospital and then do the barium swallow the following morning to see if the band is placed correctly. Then I will be back home to recover and begin to learn about my new band and how it will react to foods. I have been on high protein and low cabohydrates these past two weeks. After surgery I will be on 2 weeks of clear liquids and then 2 weeks of other liquids and then 2 weeks of mushies.
  4. Thank you for those words of encouragement because it's been been two months for me and it seems I am at a stall now. I'm able to eat a bit more and not feel that I'm full but I just stop.
  5. Hello! I was banded back in June of 2011 and am considering opening up a gym that would cater to weight loss surgery patients. I was hoping to get some feedback about an idea I have for a gym. You can reply here or you can email me at isoneedisagenix@gmail.com. My idea is to create a gym catered to weight loss patients and those individuals who need more assistance than what a typical gym membership may provide. A membership at my gym would give clients access to individual and class (class size of 20 or less) run training sessions, nutrition counseling and access to a licensed counselor to handle the mental component of weight loss and what causes people to gain weight in the first place. My belief is that as we undergo change from the surgery, our mindset isn't often as prepared to make the changes as we hope. This can cause individuals to have a difficult time losing weight, or even more likely, gain the weight back that an individual originally lost. I've talked with and worked with countless people in this same situation over the last three years and have personally experienced this as well. A counselor could provide that missing component and would work closely with the nutritionist and the training specialist on staff to ensure (as much as possible) that a client would experience weight loss with lasting success. If you had something like this available to you, would you be interested in using the service? What would you pay as a monthly membership fee to have access to a service like the one I have described? Any and all feedback is appreciated. I thank you for your time and consideration in advance. Be Well, Erenne Shaffer
  6. At 6 weeks out my goal is 64 oz or more. My biggest help is to get in as much as possible in the morning. I now drink 48 oz before work, a green smoothie with protein powder for breakfast, 24 oz during the day, and another 24 oz at night and a protein shake if I haven't gotten 70 70gm of protein. 7. Hello fellow sleevers- need some advice and encouragement. I am two weeks post op and having a real hard time with the second phase foods. Soup, yogurt, and a soft boiled egg were “god sends” after being on clears for the first week. However, after “enjoying” some of those for the first few days, I now find myself having an aversion to all of them. Just the site and thought of protein shakes, yogurt, eggs and soup makes me nauseous. Even sipping water, something that I always did prior to surgery, doesn’t interest me. Is this normal?? Have my taste buds gone through some transition along with the surgery? I’m staying the course and trying to consume at least 70-90 g of protein, but it is real difficult!!!! any advice? Is this just temporary?? Will it all change once mushy foods are allowed? Yes, weight is coming off but it sucks in there process. Thanks for you help and advice.

One Year Out - How's Everyone Doing?

I'm down 69 pounds. Had a gallbladder removed in between and had to start all over...... but we moved past that. I feel great but am stalled at a plateau at the moment. I have about 40 pounds to go. I'm healthy and enjoying life again on mulitiple levels. Improved self esteem, making friends, enjoying sex again, doing new things like kayaking. It's a new world!
  9. Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum glad to be a member. No sure if it's women only, the colors seem to be aimed at women. Anywhoo.. just wanted to share my experience. Using both the surgery and the supplement I lost around 55 lbs and I'm still slowly losing more and more each week. The sleeve went amazingly and I was VERY VERY happy with my results. My doctor is one of the best in Canada so I felt really confortable with the process. Anyways just wanted to share my story.. hopefully I can add something to your great community. Thanks for reading Dean

    The Magic Bullet is Awesome

Hahaha sex toy. I've been thinking about getting the Magic bullet (blender). Do you like it much better than a normal blender? Also, I can understand how you feel about the liquid diet. Luckily my 2 week pre op diet is only two meals of Protein drinks or bars. Then I get to eat one meal a day. (low fat, low carb meal). but I'm not to worried about it. I think the one thing that has helped me is being on Weight watchers since March. I've totally changed the way I eat. Making better food choices and finding other things low cal./low fat that satisfy my hunger. If I'm really wanting something to eat or something sweet, I turn to greek yogurt with honey. My fav. I don't feel so deprived from eating what use to be 'normal" food for me, like pizza, hamburgers, chinese and so on. Sure i might have that once or twice a month, but I may go 2 weeks not eating any fast food or junk. But when I do eat it, its only one meal and much smaller than I use to eat. I think learning how to eat again is the hardest part. It's a mind game. One game I don't want to lose. Good luck with your pre op diet. Hope it gets easier for you.

    I made it!

After a stall at about 143 I'm finally at my personal goal weight in 19 weeks post-op. It looks like I'm having no trouble keeping my Kcal down so I expect to go lower. I know I'd never have accomplished this without the sleeve! My surgery is a secret so I cannot post photos but believe me.....it's amazing! What kinda of fitness goals do people set? It's nice to be working on something. I have no: fatigue, reflux or complications. My only compliant is hair loss which obviously is considered normal.

    Do you exercise post op?

When can I restart with my Personal trainer? I was thinking 6 weeks post-op and start with gentle weight training and wait a while before moving to cardio. Even my walks at the moment are very slow as it still feels a bit uncomfortable at 12 days post op?
  15. I started back with my personal trainer at 6 weeks. It wasn't difficult to resume our workouts together.

  17. I'm in your boat too at 3 weeks. My pouch is very abnormal shaped because of my previous lap band and scar tissue. It's hour glass shaped and I'm having a terrible time. Let me know what your Dr says
  18. Hi there, I am now a week post op most of my cuts are nearly healed and am permanently attached to a glass of water, instant soup is a close friend too! It is an exciting new chapter in my life though and am already looking better for it. All the best and hope you are doing ok on your pre op diet. April 28th will be your new birthday and a date to celebrate each year!
  19. Let me preface this by saying I have been on a TON of meds because of my MO, so much so, that my kids make fun of how much I take. I am diabetic, have HBP, depression, insomnia and about every other malady associated with MO. I am 3 months into Bandland. From the first day of banding, I was able to quit my insulin injections, which was wonderful. I've lost 33 lbs and am feeling great. Actually, I've been getting dizzy lately and have had frequent episodes of low blood sugar. I went to the Dr. yesterday suspecting my BP was going low and causing the dizzy spells. He agreed, lowered my BP meds, my diabetic meds and my depression meds. He also took me off my sleeping pills. He ran all the usual battery of tests and told me to come back in a week to discuss the results. Well, I got a call today saying I did not need to come back for 3 months, EVERY test was perfect, and even my HC1A was at non-diabetic levels! I am on a natural high and just had to share my NSV! :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2:
  20. It's been a little while since I've visited the forums, but I wanted to check back and share some success! My surgery was July 31, at 350 lb, and as of today I'm at 292, which puts me at a BMI of 39.6, under the 40 cutoff for morbid obesity! I'm so excited! The last week I've bought some new clothes and it feels good to throw the old ones away, although I'm keeping a few for some before/after stuff. I'm right on the border of being able to shop at more "normal" clothing stores, and I can't wait. I'm eating pretty much everything now, nothing hurts at all and I feel as normal as I can, but if I try to cheat or eat too much, my body punishes me, and I like that. My old habits can't come back. My wife loves that we can share meals now because it helps her to eat less too. My 4-year old even out-eats me! It's really great. I'm so glad I made this choice to get the surgery. Even self-paying it at just under $20,000, I feel like it was the best investment I've made in myself. My next goal is to get a total of 100 lb down by the end of the year. I'll be ramping up the activity to help with that, and my caloric intake has been fine I think. Anyways, I'm typing this right before bed, and shortly after the period of time where I take my nightly sleep meds, including Ambien, so how it feels like I;m kind of all over the place. So I guess I'll end it with that. Good to see you all again!
  21. I am fighting head hunger everyday. It is winning. I have been bouncing back and forth for over 6 weeks. 4 lbs in both directions. Today is a new day. I am counting everything I put in my mouth. Breakfast, is a protien shake, and off to the pool.

9 Years with a band going to a Sleeve

I have heard that the first 8 weeks can be rough with lots of nausea. Hopefully your swelling will go down soon.

    When did you feel normal?

I was about 3-4 weeks post op
  25. I had my surgery last week. I took my Kindle (my second husband as my family calls it), Galaxy Tablet, iPhone and all chargers. I used my phone only. I packed chap stick and I did use it. I did take lotion but with the nausea, the smell made me feel yucky so I wished I had brought unscented. The hospital provided slippy socks. I hate hospital gowns so I packed loose comfy jammie pants, oversized cotton panties and cotton tank tops. I worse both sets and used the bariatric gown as a robe. Braless was my friend. SWEAR! With the abdominal distention from the gas and trauma plus the incisions, any bands would have killed. Worked perfect. I was allowed a shower my second day and they asked if I had brought my own supplies, I said no and they provided everything I needed (soap, shampoo and conditioner). I honestly had very little idle time on my hand nor the concentration to read or web surf. I walked, sipped, walked, sipped, rested, napped and time passed quick ..... I did watch a bit of TV but don't remember much of it .....I had the poots but there was no odor to worry about (it was CO2 and I had no solid food in my system to cause it) .... I packed baby wipes however preferred the cool or warm washcloths from the in suite restroom so I did not even open them. Hope this helps!
