    Food Before and After Photos

Thank you ALL for your honest answers! I'm eight weeks out, so solid foods for four weeks, and really having trouble with the portioning. If I don't weigh everything out, I worry I'm over eating. Still struggling with the clean plate club, but working on it every day.
  2. I had surgery on 8/31 and I am back to work today. I drove 40 minutes to work. my incisions cured up very nicely so it has not been hard for me at all. I am not struggling at all with pain. I was driving at day 7 to my one week appointment, no problems. I do wear thigh high compression sleeves on my legs to be extra careful sitting in the car that long.

WHERE ARE MY AUGUST 2021 PEEPS?

I am.in my 3rd week and I too become easily fatigued to the point where I need to sit & rest. I like to be busy and I am surprised how long this has taken to get back to 60% let alone 100%.

WHERE ARE MY AUGUST 2021 PEEPS?

Week 3 for me and just getting back to work. I thought I was doing well with energy levels and recovery, but I had to take more breaks than usual (so it was a longer day to try and get get hours in) and couldn’t work the full day the first two days and yesterday that really got to me. I ended up getting a lot of stress and anxiety for not doing enough. I’m up at 4am to try and catch up. I’ve only had one other surgery before and I don’t take long vacations so this is really tough for me to have been away for two weeks and still not feel completely recovered.
  5. I finished on a Thursday and they called me on the next Tuesday scheduled me about 3 weeks from my last test.Good luck [emoji1696] Sent from my Redmi Note 8 Pro using BariatricPal mobile app
  6. @Maribelle76 is right. We all heal & recover differently. I returned to work part-time after 4 weeks & I struggled because of brain fog & low blood pressure (had a tendency before but after surgery it was low all the time). One friend was fine after a week but another needed three. If you can zoom your classes I’d take advantage of it to begin then try in person to see how you go. Hope all goes well with your surgery & recovery.

    Month 2 Stall

Stalls happen to almost everyone at some point as you’re losing. Some have multiple stalls, some only 1 or 2. They can last 1-3 weeks. The first is usually around the 3+/- week mark but it sounds like you missed that one but it’s got you now. I liked to think of them as your body needing a breath to come to terms with all the changes & stress it’s been experiencing - change of diet, reduced calories, etc. You don’t need to change a thing you’re doing - why stress your body more by making more changes. I stuck to my plan & my stalls always broke - the first after a week, the second (just before goal) after 2.5 weeks. You’re getting close to your healthy weight range too and things slow down a lot by then. If it persists have a chat with your dietician & surgeon.
  8. Hope yours doesn’t get to the mouth wide open, gasping for moisture, mouth’s a desert stage but I am fortunate I only experience it randomly - not for a few weeks now. Great, I probably just jinxed myself & I’ll have mummy mouth tonight - sigh!

    where, when and how much?

I paid out of pocket because I didn't want to wait until the holidays to have the surgery done, and I wanted some control over my surgery date. Insurance takes about 6 months start to finish. I was also on the cusp with my BMI being too low, and was told if I lost even a couple of pounds, I would disqualify myself for insurance. Once I was self pay, I was scheduled for the surgery within a couple of weeks. Also, in total, $26,000. Sent from my SM-N976V using BariatricPal mobile app

    Regret and Depression

I certainly was questioning my decision in the first couple weeks. I was miserable for much of it. But now, 5.5 months out, I am very happy with my decision. Hang on and hang in-there...
  11. Getting close - 196 lbs as of this week.  Goal is 195.  Actually, I'm thinking of adjusting my goal.  I'd like to get down to 185 to get rid of this scraggly belly jiggle, then try to build back up to 200 with muscle instead.

    Energy

You could always run it by your team just to be certain if you have a history but I would try a nap in the mean time and see if it helps. I took one sometimes two a day for a couple weeks.

    Energy

I got pretty tired the first couple of weeks too. Took lots of naps. You are running on a pretty significant calorie deficit and major surgery is hard enough on your body on a typical diet.

    Energy

I'm 2 weeks post op today. I have no energy at all. I don't get out of breath. Just really tired, even walking to the bathroom. Is this normal? I am getting my protein and water in each day. I am still losing weight. Sent from my SM-G991U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Month 2 Stall

It’s the three month stall I bet. It comes somewhere around three months for most people. You don’t have to do anything different. Just stay the course and it will break. Hard to do after so many failed diets but just trust the process. Maybe stay off the scale for a little while.

    Month 2 Stall

Well done on for your efforts so far, you been doing great! Your weight loss for your starting weight is probably above average for the time frame. As you are very close to the healthy weight range for your height weight loss is going to be lower and slower, and you will likely experience more stalls on the way to your goal, with your goal weight being on the lower end of the healthy weight range. What type of exercise are you doing? If its fairly intense you may need to up your calories a little, I know that may feel counterintuitive but for some people it does break a stall. Are you still weighing an measuring your food and drinks with calories or just guestimating? If guessimating, time to get the measurement tools out again.

    Month 2 Stall

Hello, So tomorrow I'll be 2 months post op. So far this journey has been great! I'm down 25 lbs since surgery, 36 since starting the pre op diet. The last 8 days I haven't lost or gained anything. I've been stuck at this weight. I average 850-900 calories, 85g of protein, 50g of carbs (total, not net), 40g of fat, and 80 oz of water. & I workout about 4 days a week. Can anyone offer advice to help break this stall? It has me starting to freak out a little about how long it'll be and I'm only halfway to my goal.

One week post-op — feeling hunger

I am also a week out, 8/31/21 surgery. Relax for a bit! You will be fine. It is too early to feel restriction or decrease in hunger etc. your stomach is beat up right now with being pulled, cut, stapled and abused. What you are feeling is probably just the recovery process. Focus on drinking fluids and walking. There is a mental part of this journey which you may need to discuss with someone on what may be triggering the feelings you are having. Maybe it is something else that is making you think you are hungry? Also what helps me is hot bone broth which satisfies my “hunger’ and fills my sleeve. I started puréed foods today and cannot even eat a can of tuna, so it is not “hunger” in my view. Hang in there.

    Regret and Depression

I'm so thankful for everyone who commented, it genuinely made me feel much better knowing that it is a common thing that most of us who did the surgery went through it too. It's honestly so comforting to have a forum like this to constantly talk about my experiences with the surgery to people who are either going or have already gone through the exact same things as me. I will be looking forward to completing my 2 weeks so start feeling better. Thanks again everyone!

    Regret and Depression

In addition to the rigors of feeling crappy in the immediate post-op days/weeks, post-surgical depression is pretty common: https://www.healthline.com/health/depression-after-surgery#causes Hope you feel better soon!

    Psych Meds after Gastric Bypass

I had my appt with my psychiatrist last week and he confirmed that, for me, there should be no issue. Regular Prozac is not extended/delayed release and I am getting the sleeve. He did say, though, that it would be wise to keep an eye on things as fat stores estrogen, which can impact emotional/mental health, as well as just the sheer size of such a dramatic life change. Often times, things can get a little wonky post-op, so best to be prepared and have a plan in place. Proud of all of us for doing the hard work to have healthy minds and bodies!

    Help

I had terrible gas pain in my chest and shoulder as well. The best thing you can do is just keep walking and it will dissipate. It took a little over a week to go away for me. I’d also suggest sleeping more upright as it seems to be worse laying flat or on one’s side.

    Regret and Depression

many of us have "buyer's remorse" the first couple of weeks after surgery, but it soon fades. I regretted it the first couple of weeks, too - but it quickly passed and I soon released it was one of the best decisions I've ever made.

To Lie or Not to Lie

We are caring for my elderly father in law (who had a sleeve like 15 years ago, so…. relevant!) and it’s like wipe his butt/can’t get out of bed care… anyway yesterday was the first time my wife left me alone to handle it all, plus the business plus the kids. Plus the fridge we ordered when we converted our garage into an apartment for him (his wife/caregiver passed away this past spring) hasn’t worked since we had it delivered three weeks and Home Depot and Frigidaire are both refusing to take responsibility and a second service call yesterday yielded no results…. Uhg to say I was freaking the hell out is an understatement. See? I share too much with strangers… 😂 new day. Ready to crush it. I also ate too many m&ms yesterday. Overslept, gotta take kids to school. How the hell does she do this every day. I love her and miss her and I’m still embarrassed about being rude. Where is my toothbrush.

    Regret and Depression

Sorry to hear you are feeling this way. It may be real regret but keep in mind that your body just went through a significant surgery and everything, including your hormones, may be out of whack for a while, making your feelings even worse. I’m just over 6 months post op and can honestly say that the first two weeks post op were the hardest. Once the pain stopped and I could move on to soft foods, everything changed for me snd seemed so much better. It may be worth speaking to your surgeon, op team or a therapist to help talk through what your feeling and going through right now. You made a really brave decision to go ahead with the surgery and you are on your way to a healthier you!! You may just need some time to heal and start to see the difference to remember why you wanted this surgery for so long and see how great this journey can be. Take care and I recommend surrounding yourself with really supportive friends and family to help you get through this phase, that will hopefully pass soon
