  1. @@OKCPirate, thanks for the link to the article. There is definitely something to be said for believing one has the power of choice. I think it may be similar to self-efficacy, or how capable we believe we are at doing something. At some point, as you and @nyteacher12 say, who cares? Regardless of how we got to be obesity, we (at least those of us who decided to get bariatric surgery) know how we’re going to lose the weight: with WLS and changes in habits. Yes, the human mind is a complicated thing, @@OKCPirate! @@Inner Surfer Girl, I agree 100%!
  2. Since my weight has come down I'm waking up early morning with massive amounts of energy it's like nothing I've ever experienced before, I'm walk-run-sprinting for 10 kilometres and returning home and lifting weights for 30 mins and still cannot sit or relax due to the amount of energy running through me, normally this has been happening between 8am -9.30am then goes away, anyone else experienced this?

    Hi everyone!

Why would they kick you out. you need to talk to them and be up front about this issue. You need them now more than ever and they could definitely learn from you.. Maybe they are afraid you are going to lecture them about their weight. We can guess all kinds of things but you need to talk it out and get to the bottom of it.

    Yipee! BMs

Laugh if you want...but I was banded on Monday and have been patiently waiting for a BM. This morning I flew, yes, I think I flew because I was moving that fast, to the toilet and sat with a big grin on my face. :tt2: My grin was still there while cleaning the bowl because I made so much of a mess! Oh, the love of poo:biggrin: I wasn't worried because I know anethesia does this to your body, but it sure felt good! Starting weight 254 Current weight 240 Goal weight 145
  5. I'm glad you're doing well, and gray hair on men is so distinguished, but I hope you're not looking forward to a fill so tight that food doesn't pass through easily. That kind of a fill is a too tight fill, and being too tight does not increase weight loss. As a matter of fact, it can cause a plateau because you start eating high-calorie, low-satiety soft foods.
  6. If i I was exercising 6 days a week a couple hours a day I saw small weight loss. I wasn't really concerned as I'm nearin my goal weight. 20 more pounds. But keeping up that pace was and is difficult. I went for my 1 year check up and what I thought would be a 1/2 to 1 cc fill. I was really amazed it turned out to be a 3 cc fill and probably should have been a 4cc fill. It was explained to me my stomach has shrink and the band wasn't restricting like it should.

  8. Also, as my mother delicately put it to me when I found out major changes are happening in my company. Losing the weight will help with your job search. So, don't panic and don't use what's happening as a reason to put it off.

    Feelings of guilt and failure

Just look at the statistics for keeping off weight the "old fashioned way". We have all struggled and worked so hard only to gain it and maybe more back. You are not a failure. You are a person with what is now recognized as a metabolic problem. Only people who don't have a clue think this is any easy way out. If you plan on talking to people about your choice use it as a n opportunity to educate them (if they stop talking long enough to listen) about the real facts surrounding wls. I have told very few people so I don't have to deal with people who will drain my energy and not support me. If you had told me even a few years ago that I would have WLS I would have thought you were crazy. Over time it became clear it was my only chance at a healthier and more comfortable life. I was plain tired of carrying all that weight around. I wanted that energy for living! Good luck. It won't be long till you are celebrating and enjoying your choice.
  10. Has anyone done the Pre-Op diet to trigger weight loss during a weight loss stall? Just curious if it actually works or not?
  11. I'm scheduled for surgery December 16th and I'm having second thoughts. I had a traumatic childhood (I am in weekly therapy) so control over food is important to me. I'm not a binger not do I necessarily eat too much, I gain weight because of what I eat. Will I be able to eat any foods I like after I'm through the post-op liquid/puree stages? I can't handle eating only low fat protein and veggies now and that seems to be what others are eating on chat groups. Should I not have the surgery or have others with emotional eating issues been ok? I really appreciate hearing from anyone willing to answer, especially those with psychological food reliance issues. Also, I'm told no caffeine, ever again. Is that what you guys follow?
  12. I judged myself harshly at my high weight. When I see my old photos I remember the feeling of being trapped in my body. I was so unhappy. I always want that reminder. I want to keep healthy and enjoy adventures in life. Sent from my SM-G920T using the BariatricPal App
  13. I've been on some car lots recently car shopping for a new car for my teenage son. I can tell you with absolute certainty that I've got an interest in a sporty car for myself once I reach my goal weight. It'll be a good motivator to keep me pushing in the right direction.
  14. My main ride is a full size SUV (Escalade) which I love, and will continue to drive as I make long road trips and the comfort, ride and handling can't be beat. However, I've usually had a second "fun" car in the garage (I'm single). I sold my 2006 Corvette about 15 months ago as I wasn't driving it much. I think a present to myself, upon achieving goal weight, is a new (or at least new to me) Corvette.
  15. I'm about 6 weeks post op now and i lost a total of 41 pounds. During this period of weight loss i stayed away as much as possible from foods with high fat, carbs and sugar. How much of the above should i limit myself to in my daily diet? Thanks
  16. Hey TwoScoops...congrats on the weight you have lost so far. Try not to pay attention to the scale during TOM. Just try weighing yourself at a certain time of day once a week. scales tend to play with our minds. Not unusual for a person to jump up a couple of pounds in a day. Lots of factors can cause this. Too much sodium, etc. Are you drinking plenty of fluids??? Relax, stay on plan and hopefully in a few days that scale will be your friend again.:wink2:

    Venting

Hi everyone. First time I'm posting. I got my surgery date, June 13, and I'm sooo excited. It's been a long process. I started with the first phone call to Oregon weight loss surgery sept 20,2011. What I'm struggling with is that my phys asst wants me to lose 10 lbs before surg. I have 9 to go and my check up is the 8th! I've had a horrible week...my friend was murdered at my work and I found out my husbands company is transferring us to Arizona. The stress is not helping with weight loss and I will be devastated if they push my surgery out a month. It's not like the insurance company wants it the dr thought ur would be a good goal. I had lost the 10 pounds around month 4 and gained it back month 5and 6. Precisely why I'm getting this surgery!,,! That's all

    my docs VERY strick diet

Let me guess ... you must be a Fox patient! I've spoke to others in this field and they all say the same thing, that Fox "tweaks" the diet to call it his own. I've heard his patients are more successful ... but then again ... there are many Bandster Pros out there that aren't with Fox and they've done great! Fox also says no sugar, no milk and only eat what you can fit into that tiny medicine dispenser cup ... 2 oz? I felt a few things about his plan were absurd, like staying on a liquid diet for 4 weeks post-op. Most everyone is HUNGRY and want to chew food again by that time! I know someone else that has went through him and never did stick to his "special" diet ... and she lost all her weight in a good amount of time and looks terriffic! confused! need help!

I still believe that you should wait till you have lost a substancial amount of weight. No matter what your doctor recommends...there is NO denying that it is MUCH healthier for you and the baby to wait till you are a healthier weight. Good luck and overall it is your decision. Psych Eval question

Hi Marsha, I think Brandi's right, and if you don't already know about a given problem you might have that makes you an unfit candidate for the band, I don't think it's likely a psych evaluation will uncover one. I'd never had counseling at all before my psych eval (that I can remember), and it was a 90-minute chat about my life. We talked about my weight and I was just completely honest. I'd definitely advise to not lie or keep any information back--that may be exactly what they're looking for. But if you have explored the banding experience and thought about how you'll live with it (which you obviously are in the process of doing, right now) just share that knowledge with the psychologist. You'll do fine!!
  22. MY point is that it doesn;t matter how much they put in or take out. Its all about how your body is. Lets say you get a fill of .5CC and 4 weeks later you can;t stand eating anything since the last fill and you go back for an unfill. Say you lossed 12 lbs that month, the doctor may only want to take .25cc out because with the weight you lossed .5cc out might be too much. Instead of squabbling with the patient about what the numbers are the doctor is better off knowing what your body is telling you. I work with computers. The one thing I hate is going to a service call and instead of the person telling me whats wrong with the computer, they want to spend 30 minutes explaining how they want me to fix it. Again, I think a doctor should tell the person if they ask. As far as coming out and telling the patient right away? I don't blame them if they don't say because the numbers are not what is important since the body and fluids are constantly changing anyways.

    Help with size portion

Follow weight watchers basically same as enjoythetime does. It worked great for both of us.
  24. Now that I am "approved" for surgery and this is becoming a reality, I figured NOW is the time to post my story so far. I am 49, 5'7 and 235 at my highest weight. (Can't believe I actually wrote that down for public consumption!) That made me a BMI of 36.8. I had considered weight loss surgery off and on throughout the years of yo-yo dieting. My last good weight loss was about 30 pounds back in 2009 and I was lighter then. So that means I have put on about 40 pounds in four years. (Less than a pound a month, not too bad, right??!! Ha!) I have some lung problems, high blood pressure (if you would only lose weight, you wouldn't have to take these pills anymore....) and hypothyroidism. Too much for someone my age I decided and started considering the lap-band. I am a nurse and considered that to be "least invasive" and "easiest" to have done surgically. On November 28, 2012, I signed the hubby and I up for an informational seminar. While hubby wasn't interested (I'm hoping to change that), I listened to the doctor present the band, sleeve and RNY options. To his credit, he didn't try to sway anyone to any one procedure, but I had changed my thinking from lap-band to sleeve. I submitted my "insurance verification" form and left. In lateDecember/early January, I was contacted by the doctor's office and told that my insurance (CIGNA) did provide WLS benefits. I had started a post-holiday "kind of" diet about mid-January with Weight Watchers. I saw my surgeon for the first time on January 28, 2013. We discussed all the usual things and agreed that the sleeve was a good procedure for me. My only beef with the process was that the coordinator told me "All your insurance needs is the evaluation and 3 months of diet history. Just print out Weight Watchers and it will be ok." More on that in a minute.... From there, I had: EGD (endoscopy) on 2-4 and found to have a small hiatal hernia. Psych eval and nutrition eval on 2-13. In the mean time, I had researched CIGNA's bariatric policy and found out that I needed a lot more than "Just 3 months of Weight Watcher history." Rather than chance it, I went and got clearance from my PMD and met with a nutritionist for 3 months of a supervised diet. (2-20, 3-16 and 4-20...boy am I glad I started that "kind of diet" back in January!) Am now at 222 (fluctuating pounds.) My coordinator submitted my packet on about May 10th with a comment of "everything looks great...should be no problem." On May 17th, I was notified of denial...based on two points. My physician had failed to state that he BOTH recommended me for the surgery AND cleared me (he only recommended me....despite the fact I had asked him to do both.) The nutritionist did a summary report that detailed all three visits, with all of the components required, but CIGNA wanted it in three separate notes. At least it wasnt because of medical criteria! So...my coordinator got all that together and on May 21st, she submitted again, stating it could take up to 90 days, but probably not that long. The waiting is the hardest part!!! Well, today I got the news I was waiting for...APPROVED! It took 7 business days for the appeal. Now we are in fast-forward mode: 6-10: Pre-op meeting with surgeon to sign consents, etc... 6-15: Start of pre-op diet! (Not looking forward to it....) 6-17: Pre-op lab/x-ray work at hospital 6-25: Surgery I travel for my work (I am a healthcare consultant) and will be out of town three weeks between now and then, so it will fly by! I am so excited. I think now that it's a reality, my husband is concerned. I got the "If it makes you happy, it makes me happy" but I am not convinced. I know he is supportive of my decisions, but probably a bit insecure at the same time. food has always been a big part of our life and I have been slowly withdrawing from that over the last few months. Thanks for listening! I am so darn excited I just needed to share it with someone. I have told very few people. I will update after the surgery.

    Eating Plan???

I had my surgery 4-19-08; have lost 43 pounds; am struggling right now with keeping food down and same as you just seem to handle the chicken salad better than anything. Eggs come right back up no matter how they are cooked or made. I have a sinus infection right now, tons of drainage and we think that is what is making everything come right back up - not being gross - but mucus looks to be the main thing coming up in huge bulk amounts. Sorry to be gross. Also, I am battling an issue of needing root canal and the pain is awful, so the pain meds are not helpful to eating right. I am just stuck and so down mentally. My weight loss has been on stand-still mode and now these issues don't help. I love my smoothies more than anything but was told to get more food down as my body is in starvation mode. Anyone else going through anything like this?
