    Banded yesterday

I felt regret from days 2-6 (worst gas pain of my life!) I thought i was going to DIE getting in/out of bed and having to sleep on my back! Today is day 14 and I feel awesome. In fact.. My daily text to the four friends that will have LB nov-dec-jan was this... NSV!! My bra is on the tightest hook and getting loose!! I don't have to unzip the 12's to get them over my hips! Down 18.5lbs since pre-op diet started!

Congratulations Polly!! Good for you!! Er....what are nsv's? I've been trying to figure out what that means! I'm in the same size uniform pants only they aren't stretched out as much (I think!) I'm still not at my sweet spot yet (damn it!) And I've only gone down a 1/2 lb. in like 2 wks. I've noticed the hair loss too. I don't worry too much about it as I have a ton of hair but when I brush it out or take a hair clip out, there is lots! I still have about 10 Meditrim left but I have a scoop of Whey Protein Isolate in a cup of skim milk and a cup of frozen berries (blueberries, strawberries, whatever's on sale!) and 2 tsp. of Splenda in the morning. I always remember the 'protein first' rule. My list of 'can't have'-s is ever expanding! Tried to have some very thinly sliced chorizo sausage today and nope! Too dry. Up it came. Pork chops, no matter how well done they are, even in a sauce or gravy, are difficult too. Rye bread? Nope. Made a bean Soup and put some left-over boiled potatoes in it - not a good idea. Can't do boiled potatoes very well either. With those kind of limitations, you'd think the scale would move! I am thrilled for you! Keep me in the loop on your progress!!

    Northern Ontario?

NSV's - non scale victories! Thank God for them as my scale sucks! I really should buy a better one. Any suggestions? Where do you buy your Whey Protein Isolate? I haven't tried boiled potatoes yet - now I'm scared! LOL!!
  6. pollywogg

    Northern Ontario?

The scale has started to move again - at a nice steady pace. I'm SO happy! The nsv's are amazing too. I tried a pair of pants on the other day not expecting them to fit at all and they did! Plus I'm down two pant sizes in my uniform pants as of today! I'm just estatic about my band, its such a great tool. For breakfast because I'm having some hair loss I'm drinking the rest of my protein shakes, but they are coming to an end. What do you put in your breakfast shake?

GT... you've made my day! I am in awe! I just don't have the courage to jog outside... and I so wish I did! I am working on the mental aspect to do it but it is taking a long time! To run with a personal trainer, keep up and TALK is fan-bloody-tastic!! Good job my lovely! I am also impressed that you are recoginising the positive changes that you've made to yourself... the NSV has more than one level my friend! x

Yay!! That's an awesome NSV! I can't wait until I'm back into good enough shape to run myself. I ran track in high school and I can remember loving the time I spent on the road alone in the early mornings. I'm so proud of you and happy that you enjoyed the run!!!
  9. I had my first real NSV today. It only took 47 pounds. Haha! I went to the salon to have my hair done today, I have been going to this salon for years. When I was checking out the 2 Receptionist kept telling me how great I was looking. They sure had me feeling good ! Then they were having a free T-shirt giveaway. So when they asked what size I wanted, I asked what the fit was like, the receptionist held up a medium and said this would fit you. I said no, I didn't think so, but thank you !! I haven't worn a medium anything in YEARS. I can't even really remember ever wearing a medium. She insisted that it would, so I took it and said well if it doesn't now it will soon enough. What a great feeling !! It does fit although it is a little too snug for my taste, I don't think it looks great. But soon it will !!!

My very first NSV crept up on me!

So this week has been pretty hard, but yesterday I realized some of my pain is already gone, and that's amazing! For a couple of months I had been getting bad, all-day-all-night pain in both hips/thighs, almost like a constant muscle soreness except minus the exercise that usually causes that sort of thing. When I was making my list of NSVs for the first time, I put that one up top. It was so bad some days I felt hobbled, and I'm 26. I didn't know what it was, but I wanted it gone. Yesterday I stood up to walk around and realized that I had just stood up with no. Pain. Not only that, but I had BEEN standing up with no pain all day, and my relatively pain-free state has thus far continued. HELL YES. As hard as this first week is, I have this little victory to hang on to. My other little victories/goals, scale and non-scale, in the rough order in which I hope to achieve them: Get below 250. I've been above 250 for a year. Start a series of every-morning pictures when I go back to work. Fit into my favorite pants again (the size 18s that had started to hurt when I wore them) Get below 230. I've been over 230 for a year and a half. Find an exercise I like! Get below 220. I've been over 220 for three years. Buy NEW favorite pants ;] Review my series of every-day pictures: six-month mark Have my ankles and knees not ache every 8 hour standing shift I do at work. Get below 210, which I haven't been under since I started college in 2005. Donate most of my too-big clothes. (keeping some for comparison!) Feel -- not even see, just feel! -- my hip bones again. I KNOW YOU'RE IN THERE GUYS. Get below 200. I've been over 200 lbs since 17. Fit into a pair of size 14 pants. Get below 190. My lowest weight ever in my adult life was 187 at 16 years old, and I looked good. It's a shame I didn't know how good I looked, actually, but that's what you get when you're a slightly body-dysmorphic teenager. Sure, I was still pudgy, but I was awesome pudgy and I should have flaunted. CELEBRATE THAT ****. Get below 180 -- uncharted territory! GOAL: 175-170

    Keeping your Mojo

Okay - so we all get motivated and we are gung ho about losing our weight. We're going strong, nothing can stop us now, or can it? You finally hit the dreaded "I don't care attitude". You realize 3 months later, you've gained weight, your no longer exercising and your eating crap. You wonder, what happened? You were so excited and doing good, then you stopped? Well, you lost your motivation, otherwise known as MOJO. So, I'm on a qwest, how do we keep our mojo going strong? I've been asking the experienced bandsters this question, what motivates you? What keeps you motivated? Here are some tips - 1) Have some goals and write them down! Make sure they are very clear and precise goals. Don't just say, I want to lose 50 lbs, ror 60 lbs. What are you going to do to hit that goal? Have some short term goals - and work toward your bigger goals. 2) Have some NSV goals. It's not all about weight, maybe you want to wear a size 10, or maybe you want to no longer touch the sides of the bathtub with your thighs when you are in it (one of my NSV goals). 3) Measure your success - thats right, get out the tape measure and measure! You will be amazed at the results (I've lost 8 inches off my hips - that to me is amazing!). Also, measure your success with pictures, take your picture every month, you might even take it nude, this is just for you to measure your success. Or take it in you undies, or bikini, however you want. Look at the before & after pics and check out Foodchamps - you can really see the difference in her tummy area, but if you just took the pic fully clothed, you wouldn't be able to see the results. 4) You have to be tough about the scales. Yes, this is hard to do, I know from experience. But, realize your body water weight changes all the time, some days its retaining some days it is now. So the best thing to do is measure your results weekly or monthly. 5) Look at your before pic often and then look at your latest pic, see how far you have come, don't stop now. Keep telling yourself this. Vision yourself smaller and fit and heathy. 6) Fake it until you make it......I'm talking about exercise. The dreaded word. I hated it, I faked it, went to the gym and walked slowly on the treadmill faking it, then after about 3 weeks, I started increasing the speed, and finally really started pushing myself, I made it....get it? Fake it until you make it! I promise, keep doing this and you will make it, but its hard in the beginning so push yourself to the gym or to go for a walk. 7) Keep track of what you eat, don't just say, I'm doing good, why am I not losing....if you keep track of EVERY bite you can look back on it and say "Wow, it must be the bite here and there of the M&m's i'm consuming, or that piece of candy I grab everyday off my desk etc. Keeping track of what we eat will keep us on the losing path, it will keep us motivated. 8) Buy yourself some new clothes! it will motivate you, promise. I bought myself a size smaller and now am wearing it. It motivates me to keep going smaller. We deserve to reward ourselves, so lets do it, but no with food! 9) Don't look at your flaws (I do it, its easy to do) look at your accomplishment and what you are doing - keep thinking about how much better you are going to look, this helps me stay motivated. 10) After you reach your goals, mark them off your list. It motivates me to keep checking off goals. It keeps me motivated! Below are my goals I wrote back in December (see my first page of my journal) - So I'm going thru them and checking off what I have done - 1. I want back in my bikini! I haven't worn it since, well, 14 years ago. Not yet - but working toward it 2. I want a fit body, not just healthy but toned, I want my atheletic shape back - the one way to do this is EXERCISE (note to self, get off the couch and MOVE) - I've started exercising, so I'm working toward this goal, I can see changes in my body and I feel better so 50/50 accomplished so far. 3. I want to buy sexy clothes again! and not only buy them, but be able to wear them and feel good in them. - I bought a few sexy shirts, and I will be wearing one next weekend. So, I'm going to say this goal has been reached! 4. I want to be able to bend down and tie my shoes without the breath being knocked out of me. - DONE! 5. I want to be able to get in the tub and not have my ASS take up the entire tub, side to side - oh this sucks. - DONE! 6. I want to be able to cross my legs. - DONE! 7. I want to be able to wear shorts without them riding up my crotch. - hmmmm, almost but not quite. 8. I want to be able to walk without my thighs rubbing each other and sweating in the summer and leaving that horrible heat rash! - still working on this one. 9. I want to be able to push food away and not feel the need to clean up the entire plate.- I say - DONE. 10. I don't want food to be my focus in life.- DONE! 11. I want my kids to be proud of me. 12. I want to feel beautiful again and not 40 & fat. - Working on this, but not quite there. 13. I want to be able to buy a low rise pair of jeans without my stomach hanging over. my current jeans go clear up to my belly button. - My most exciting goal of all that I reached! I bought my first pair last week and they look good! 14. I want to be able to have sex with my DH and not feel the need to "turn the lights off". - Well, almost. 15. I want to become where exercise is a part of my life, where I crave exercise like I crave chocolate.- Becoming more and more part of my life! OMG - I've reached this goal! 16. I want to inspire other people to lose weight. - I was just told the other day that I inspire them. So I am going to say DONE! 17. I want to become a personal trainer. - This is a long term goal of mine - so not there yet! 18. I want to buy attractive Teddies to wear instead of my sweatpants and tee shirts to bed. - I forgot about this goal, so I think next week after I complete my 6th week of BFL, I will by myself a new nightie, to celebrate my 1/2 mark with bfl. 19. I want to be proud of my weight, not ashamed. - almost, but not quite 20. I want people to be shocked that I am 40 because I look younger, not shocked because I am 40 and I look 50. - working on this, the more weight I lose, the younger I look.

    A Christmas Nsv

    Congrats on the great NSV!!!!Karen
  13. I have a 16 year old sister and she got a couple pair of new jeans for Christmas. She was trying them on and had a hard time getting them buttoned. The last size I bought were a size 14 and these were juniors size 13, so I said let me try them on. They went on with no problem and were lose at the waist. My mom even said they looked better on me. Needless to say, she was not happy at all, especially when she read my Facebook status that said "Best Christmas present is knowing I can fit into my 16 year old sister's jeans!" She told me I was embarrassing and she was starting her diet tomorrow, forget the first of the year!

    Going bonkers here

Yes stalls this long or even longer happen. Just look for the NSV (Non scale victories) when the scale isnt moving. I had a stall for almost 3 months. Try doing Protein shakes for a few days or week & one meal... or something along those lines.... just to shake things up.... what about working out? maybe increase your workout? Also track what you eat... this always helps me. Try not to stress over it (i know easier said then done) Good Luck!

    Interesting Nsv

I just realized and interesting (an unexpected NSV). I went outside on my lunch break. I sat down on the steps to paint my toenails. As I was painting, I realized I could feel the bones of my rear against the concrete! Not as much padding back there as there used to be! LOL!

    Interesting Nsv

I 1st noticed that problem when I tried ot take a long trip. Previously from loosing weiht, I could ride hours without getting a sore bumm. Now, even after a few minutes, I find I need to shift to get comortable, and have to have a pad under my bumm and back to ride longer than an hour or so. Congrats on your "interesting"NSV!

    NSV...SV...Victories all over the place.

Okay...where do I start. I know if has been a while since I have posted and I am ready to share some great stuff that has been going on directly related to my band. First a BIG NSV (non-scale victory) I went shopping today for a new pair of jeans. I have been wearing a size 18 (I know I can't believe I've been in a size 18!!!) A couple of people have commented that they are getting baggy. Not falling off or anything, but baggy in the but, so I decided to find some that fit me ok. I tried on a size 16 only to find they were too big too!!! OMG!!! So I went out to get a smaller size thinking that they would be too small and THEY FIT!!!! (I am shouting for joy now) I FIT INTO AND BOUGHT A SIZE 14 JEANS!!!!!!! I haven't fit into that size since somewhere around my sophmore year in high school!!! I still can't believe it!!! I know all jeans are different and I tried on several brands and styles and I could button all of them. I just didn't like most of them and some were too tight, but that's okay. I've also been thinking about getting a body shaper. I am really noticing how much I will be needing a tummy tuck and breast lift. My body is beginning to look like a deflated ballon. Anyway while I was in Walmart I tried on a size 2xl cami body shaper and it was too big so I got an XL. I can't believe the difference! It only cost $16 and it is amazing and comforatble so I will be wearing that most days to work now. I also got lucky and found some amazing deals on clothes that fit me. $5 for a skirt and the same for pants. I kept grabbing the size 18 and kept going back tot he rack to get a size 16. (These can not be even a little snug...they are for work) Okay...next victory. I went out of town last week. I was gone from Tuesday to Friday and I STILL LOST WEIGHT!!! I had to eat out for every meal and was "wined and dined" for two of those (for work not pleasure) and I still lost weight and worked out! VICTORY!!!! YAY! This is the trip every year that usually gets me off track. I have another one next month, but I am more confident that I can make it!. I did find myself starting to feel sad that I couldn't eat more of the stuff I liked, but then I was so grateful because I realized that the band was dong just what I wanted it to do. It was giving me a reason to not over eat. I could have kept gong but I would have felt horrible and I don't want to stretch my pouch. I love my band. I had to say no to fresh hot pretzels and pastries all week, but that is ok. I could have eaten it, but chose not to. The band has helped me make those tough desicions. I know I could have eaten around the band and drank a TON of expensive alcholic drinks and incredible soft deserts, but I have learned a new lifestyle and since I have worked so hard for 5 months I was ready to hit the road and still make good desicions. I have lost 80 lbs and I am 5 lbs from ONEderland. I can't wait to get there. Have I mentioned I love my band? His name is Band Jovi:drum:

    Another Silly Success

My friend, Carolinagirl, that is an awesome NSV. I had that problem before losing 100 lbs, too. I can't remember when I noticed that I could lift my leg to put on my socks. But, it was a darn good feeling!!!Congrats on you weightloss. Karen
  19. Let's have our very own Non-scale Victories thread! My first one: I can do up the seat belts on the bus into work in the morning!! I work on a mine site and we get bussed from camp to site, and HAVE to wear seat belts (safety regs). The driver comes by to check before taking off and up till now, I've had to hide the fact that I couldn't quite click the buckle in. It's always been so embarrassing having anyone see me struggle and then have to hide my failure from the bus driver. This week, it was tight, but it did up every time!! YAY!

    NSV's for the Merry Losers

Oh Fanny! I'm sure it was horrible painful. I didn't mean to imply that it wasn't. Just wanted to say that you are so much better. Take is as awesome that you are now thought of as too good for someone instead of not good enough. That is amazing!!!! A third NSV in 2 days!!!! Chin up....you're a MERRY LOSER!!!
  22. helenpgh

    I am OVER it today.

@justhere4theshow. Hang in there. Just keep following your doctors plan and the stall will end. Maybe put away your scale for a few weeks and focus on NSVs. Measure yourself and see if you are losing inches. Congrats on getting to 200! Think what you would weigh now if you hadn't had the surgery. When I start to question if I did the right thing I go back and read a diary entry that I wrote before my surgery about why I wanted to have it. That helps me.

    Non-Scale Victories!!

New NSV today, was talking to my boss and he said, wow you lost a lot of weight and that my complexion was clear. What a great compliment.

    Non-Scale Victories!!

I found a big box of clothes yesterday that I haven't fit into in about 3 years. I tried them all on and Guess what....they FIT! Yay! That is one of the best NSVs I have had so far. ~Amy
