  5. I returned to the gym on November 22nd and have only missed a couple of days since then/going 7 days a week. I'm doing 60-90 minutes of cardio at the gym, plus every other day I'm doing strength training on the weight lifting machines and lifting small light dumbbells at home. I should have taken measurements when I started working out two months ago but I didn't. Now the scale isn't moving down, but it could be my new fitness routine and muscle gain. How long should it take before I can start seeing some muscle definition in my arms and/or tell that the weightlifting is working? Is it too late for me to measure now and into the future to track changes? I'd like to see some arm definition by May if possible.

    Eating with bypass vs lapband

I am about 6 weeks out of my revision from lap band to bypass and from my experience it is way different. It is a whole new way of learning to eat and seeing what you can tolerate and what you cannot. I do not get the 'full' feeling like I did with the band and I am bummed about that. I am learning that I am getting a new 'full' feeling that I am getting used to that has started to help me now that I have experienced it. I don't know if I have had dumping or not. I have had frequent diarrhea getting used to foods but not sure its technically dumping. I haven't had it in connection with consuming sugar or the sweaty, racing heart thing. I have started to lose weight and I am happy about that part but definitely a different process than the band. Good Luck to you!

    Bowel movements

Not to worry, perfectly normal. You're creating less waste to release. Now 3 years post-op I am regular daily.
  8. Yeah, it's tough. I lost 5 pounds in 2 weeks on WW and was happy and moving forward but the last two weeks I've lost nothing/gained if you believe the scale. I followed the diet to the letter. The lady at the gym keeps saying "You get smaller every time I see you" but I'm NOT! I'm getting bigger!
  9. I was anal retentive about following everything to the letter pre-op and for the first six months post-op. Be careful to follow your ore-op diet as much as possible because you need to shrink your liver before WLS and it helps you prefer for the two weeks liquid diet post-op.
  10. Mando, I can’t even explain how much this post means to me! Thank you for posting it! I thought I was the only one in this very rocky annoying boat. 7 months out for me - I’ve lost 73lbs. Dropped 6 dress sizes, and yes I will even agree that I look great! However…… I am 7lbs from my end goal… since before Xmas I have been bouncing up and down the scales 2-3lbs and can’t seem to shift anything. i have days I loose a lb - get excited and then jump back on a few days later and it’s back there again 🤨 I have had very supportive family and friends however they don’t understand why I’m so frustrated. Because they just see that I’m ‘skinny’ now and should just be happy. i am happy.. but I want to reach my goal. I have adjusted my meals. Increased my protein intake. Increased my water intake… I’ve started exercising (mainly walking and sit ups) I can see a difference in terms of my body is changing still, I’ve lost 1/2 inch in my waist, but nothing has moved on the scale. So although I look more defined I still want that scale to change! I think this is just the final mile and it’s a struggle when you see the scale move every week for the past 6-7 months for it to stop is a bit of an anticlimax. But it’s gotta stop at some point right? Maybe this is the weight my body is comfortable with and I need to get used to us… the only comfort is that I haven’t ‘gained’ weight … Keep going you will get there…
  11. I know most folks here can relate - I'm well over a year out and these last 10lbs to my "real" goal are just killing me. I jump back on the bandwagon for a week or so and lose 2-3 lbs and then gain them back for no apparent reason (other than hormones and such) which of course puts me in a mood to just give up and go back to normal maintenance... then again, lose/gain the same 2-3 lbs over the next few weeks. Particularly when everyone is commenting on how great you look and "WOW, you are killing it, you look smaller every time I see you." No dammit - I want to lose at least another 10-20 lbs... I know what I need to do, just can't seem to get in the right headspace for more than a week or two.
  12. I think the liver can shrink in 5 days I think they just put you on two weeks to prepare you mentally for new eating habits

    Old as Dirt

Yes there are lots of us. I am only 8 weeks in and my knees are already feeling better. Good luck and chat away
  14. You’re not the only one. Not saying it’s right or wrong but whether you do it again is up to you. This is just the beginning of big changes to how & what you eat. Take it one day at a time. The first week is usually the hardest because your breaking habits & addictions. All the best.

    Life Abroad with VSG

I’m with @Sleeve me alone!. Stick to fresh ingredients & prep your own meals. Add your favourite herbs & spices as you’re able. You’ll find to begin you’ll tolerate a more simple diet more easily & meals may just be protein. Can you order protein shakes online because they will be the focus of your post surgical diet for the first couple of weeks. Do products you can buy list the ingredients? They tend to list ingredients in order of amount used so if sugar is high on the list avoid it. Many manufactures list nutritional content of their products online too so you could try that. I’m a big make it myself person but I rarely follow recipes. Once you have a few basic recipes you can vary ingredients & boost them up however you want. You can make soup & stew like dishes without a recipe from almost whatever meat, vegetables, legumes you have in your fridge, freezer or pantry. I keep tins of beans, lentils & tomatoes, stock & gravy powders in my pantry - you don’t have to worry too much about their sugar, salt, fat & carb content - & they can be easily used in a variety of dishes. I’m making a no recipe soup this weekend: chicken thighs in the freezer, lentils in the pantry & will add, celery, onion, carrot, chicken stock, some herbs, garlic, ginger. Done & yum! All the best.

    Food Before and After Photos

That’s such a thoughtful offer but I, like everyone else here will survive. 🙂 I did consider dried beans too but decided it wasn’t worth the effort of rehydrating & cooking them for what is essentially the 1/3 cup I throw in my salad every couple of days. And I actually found oats yesterday on a foraging expedition to another supermarket - whoo hoo.
  18. I started my liquid diet today to prepare for surgery on February 3. I was so happy to learn that Health Wise oatmeal is allowed. It was yummy, and did not feel like another “liquid”!
  19. TMI but for the last month or so; I have been having a yellow discharge; it doesn't smell fishy. My VSG surgery was on 11/29/2021. This discharge is coming down excessively feels like day 2 of my menstrual cycle. I have to wear a normal pad. I had covid so I was not able to see my gynecologist until now. My appointment is tomorrow. I'm worried about what's causing the vaginal discharge. Has this happened to anyone else?

    Food Before and After Photos

Re: portion sizes post surgery- I am 6mo out & at my goal of WNL. For lunch today I had 1oz Banza pasta, 3 shrimp & ~2tbps of Raos sauce. I made double but that was all I wanted. I’ll have the leftovers as a snack or dinner.

    Gout Flare-up, time-frame, and remedies

Sleeved 12/22. I swear last week I told my husband I think I have gout. He looked at me weird and I shrugged it off. My big toe was hurting but not a lot. I did a IV vitamin drip on Monday so maybe that helped because my toe doesn't hurt anymore. Hope you feel better soon. Oh one more thing, my husband gets it all of the time and he takes Tart Cherry.
  22. Hi Everyone, I had my sleeve procedure in December and everything has been going well, except for the gout flare up. Since week 2 post op I have been experiencing an on-going gout flare up on my toe which is just about preventing me from walking. After googling, I know its a known possibility and should go away slowly, but was wondering if anyone else has experienced this. Any remedies, drinks, or pills you've found to help? Timeframe yall's lasted before subsiding? Normal uric acid levels are 7 or below, mine is sitting at 13, so any help or advise is appreciated. Thanks in advance everyone!

    January 2022 Surgery Buddies

I had very little energy last week, my gastric bypass was 4th January. I have a little more energy this week but have awful hives which are making me miserable and seem to keep getting reflux which is also making me grumpy. Trying to figure out this purée diet now. Hope your energy picks up soon x

    Pain post op

they told me as long as I’m eating/drinking, normal outputs, and no fever, vomiting etc, it’s normal and will last up to 8 weeks. To make sure I’m staying hydrated (which I am!) otherwise Tylenol. & if anything else changes to cal back. I have my 1 month follow up Tuesday over video. So I guess that’s that! Reply Report •••
