  1. Anyone in the Dallas Ft. Worth area about to have surgery or on liquids want some free cans of soup? I have 10 cans of chicken broth to give away. I bought way to much b4 surgery. Msg me if interested.
  2. I have not had vsg yet but that is my plan and hope at this point . I have one ore month of supervised weight loss & then should be on my way . While having my Egd the doc said I had signs of avid acid reflux. This was new to me, I very rarely had any issues, only when I was pregnant. (3years ago). He then put me on med. for this "problem". I then within a week of taking this me started having indigestion like crazy and have felt awful ever since. I also was told during my stomach ultra sound that I have gallstones in the neck of my gallbladder . I felt like crap ever since they went fishing around doing these test. I had a attach of some sort the other day while eating dinner ( baked pork & carrots ) horrible chest pain, back pain between shoulders , hot flashes, nausea, dry heeves felt like something was stuck. Horrible pain! Went to ED, they gave me a GI cocktail and zofran. With in 10 min. I felt much better. Called the gastro doc next day & they switched me to nexium. I still have mild pain on left side of chest when I take deep breaths. And after I eat. Most psin is on left side of chest, right under sternum, and left side of stomach / abdomen . I am worried that my surgeon will say no to the sleeve due to this new issue. Anyone have issues like this before or after the surgery? So frustrated & I am so close to the finish line that I'm afraid of everything going wrong at this point. :/

    FREAKING OUT!

Honestly I struggled with the decision too. If you are anything like me, you have probably had a life time of food indulgences. Really I am only 10 days out of surgery now and it is so nice not to feel hungry and to be content in the decision I made. People are eating all sorts of things around me and there just isn't the same connection with hunger or cravings. I have already started to feel free...trust yourself, trust your medical professionals, get a circle of support and get on with having fun and living. Just think a year from now you will not be thinking about what is the next diet you should go on because you will be where you want to be....good luck

    Freaking out!

Thank you guys so much! I'm doing a lot better this afternoon it kind of comes in waves. Sometimes I'm really excited then 10 mins later I'm freaking out. I m going to center of excellence and I know someone who had my surgeon and loved him. I asked him if I had any risk and he told me honestly no I don't see any complications with you. He's had one complication last year and it was a 600lb 65 yr. old with a lot of health issues and she had a leak. I feel like as surgeons go I have the best. My mom and dad have told me that I shouldn't worry about the surgery that its the surgeons job so I'm going to try that technique for awhile. He told me that when I come in on Tuesday they will start me on some anxiety meds almost immediately. Wish I could of had some starting Friday:) Thanks again!!

    For the ladies

I had started mine the day before surgery. I was also on blood thinners. That cycle lasted 7 days. I had about a 10 day break and then it came back with a vengeance for two weeks… so roughly 3 out of 4 weeks I had a heavy period. Cramps were horrible with heavy clotting. I was told to watch my cycles and if it continued to check in with my gyn, but also told that it’s not out of the ordinary to have cycle disturbance early in. Also got the “very fertile” time warning but I have my tubes tied and my hubby has a vasectomy - so we are clear there.
  6. I must be a "glass half-empty" kinda gal cuz, although I have had great results since being banded 10 months ago, I am starting to have fears of losing my band! I have had no complications and am living comfortably with my tool. What I worry about is that something will happen that will cause my band to be removed... I worry that there is only a set amount of time that the band can remain inside one's body without the body maybe rejecting it etc... Is there anybody out there that can reassure me by telling me they've had theirs for ???? years? I know that the band hasn't been around that long, but let us know how long you've had it. (Then I can find something else to worry about!! ha ha ha).
  7. I can totally relate...my consult with the bariatric doctor was on 9/16 and my surgery is already scheduled for this monday, 10/13. My insurance doesn't cover any of the surgery so I think that may have expedited the surgery date. The first thing I did was purchase the pre and post op bariatric advantage lapband protein and vitamin supplements as well as some of the profect protein "shots". They are really weird looking and the fruit punch one I have tried tastes like really bad cough medicine :tt1:. If you feel that it's too rushed, then talk to the surgery team about pushing it back a few weeks if you have to....remember that this is YOUR journey and don't feel forced into a date just because they can schedule you. There's a lot to do before the surgery (getting clearance from your primary care doctor, lots of blood work, your psych clearance, ekg, etc.) and it can be really hard to manage it all if you are working. I don't know about others, but you may want to consider taking a few 1/2 days off of work before the surgery to get it all done. Hang in there and I wish you the best:thumbup:
  8. Thanks for the replies. I don't ever throw-up but it just feels awful for anywhere from a minute up to 10 if real bad. I take my time to chew the food real good, sometimes I probably eat a bit too fast. Sometimes it is worse than others. I just wonder if that part gets any better with time. I understand about breads or some meats getting stuck but eggs, soggy cereal?! This is a lot tougher than I thought it would be!!
  9. do what you NEED to do to be happy with your self and a good mother to your son. That is the most important thing! I set out to loose 100lbs.. this after it took me over 10 years to gain it....so now that i have only lost 40lbs in almost one year it seems like i have failed. BUt i have to remind myself that i am doing it slowly and safely and now i feel healthier that i have in years. I remember when i weighed 170lbs i was considered the big one, since everyone else in my family had no weight issues....so now that i am obese my family really have not been able to understand why it is taking my time to loose it. You need to sort out who you want to be in your head, just because you used to be the "fat girl" before did not make u any less worthy.... you deserve the best and give yourself credit for seeing your errors and fixing them/ That takes courage. Best of luck to you. you are strong and dare i say beautiful!!!
  10. I was banded on 10/25 and have not had eegular bowel movments since. I tlkd to the dr and he suggested metamucil daily and miralax. Neither have been working. 11. Hi Debbie 7155 No I´m not in the UK but I have been waiting here in Norway for 16 months now and I have been placed in several programs where diet and exersice is the main focus. My problem is that I have a lower back problem that is killing me and all those program I´ve been put in have had to be stopped due to my backproblems. This is a problem that has been with me since childhood but went increasingly back when I started playing soccer at the age of 10. Now I´m tierd of the wait and looking to get mine done in January. so any tips are most welcome Thorunn
  12. Hi - I've only posted a few times, but I thought I'd post because I'm a bit shocked... I have been going thru my 6 mo. PCP visits, and finally finished them last week - got my file to the surgeon's office on Friday, and they said that it would take about 4 weeks to get a response... and that I should plan on a surgery date about 10 weeks out or so. Well, got a call from my insurance today - and they approved me already - not even 48 hours! Yikes! I have no idea what that means for my surgery date!!! I know it is all good, but I wasn't prepared for it to happen so quickly - maybe a sign that it is the right decision!

how long would someone be off work?

That is good advice, to ask your dr... I was told not to lift more than 10 pounds for 3 weeks. No ab work (sounds like your job needs abs) for 3 months. Maybe you can transfer departments for a while? Best of luck to you...and be careful!

how long would someone be off work?

Yeah, you're definitely not gonna be allowed to lift 50lbs for quite a while. I think I was told not to do more tha 10-15lbs for at least 6 weeks. I'd look into getting at LEAST that much time off, IF you can't get reassigned to lighter duties until you're able to do your old job.

Explaining the band to young kids

Lets see... my kids are 10, 6 and 3. When the older ones have asked questions about my eating habits... my answer is/was: Mom has this plastic thing inside my tummy to help me lost weight! Its short sweet and to the point! If they want more details, we talk more about it!

    All dreams come true.....believe

Thank you, I agree with luckyinlove. I am having surgery 4-28-10 and vacillate daily on whether I have made the right decision. You have confirmed that I have!
  17. I was having the same feelings when I got sleeved it July it was the best thing for me I to was considering the band but chose the sleeve because of less complications and no need to continue follow up care the rest of you life to have adjustments I was also told I would lose more weight with the sleeve I am down almost 90 pounds and only 10-13 pounds from goal it will be 3 months tomorrow since surgery you will also have to weight several weeks before the band will even be inflated to help with weight loss then lots of adjustments there after
  18. 10 days after surgery or 10 days after you take the CAPS LOCK OFF. Whichever comes first.

I'm confused. Max fill volume 4cc

Suzanne: I was confused about this too, so last appointment I asked my Dr. He said that I have a 10 cc band, which means it's 10 centimeters in length. The 10 cc band only holds 4 cc's maximum for fill. He told me that he hasn't filled anyone yet over 3 cc's and he's been banding since 2005. At my support group they brought this up too. The other Dr. said that they're using only the bigger bands now because they've found that on some people the smaller band is too tight and you can't go backward. If it's too loose you can fill it, however if it's too tight it's a problem for the patient until they lose some weight, or have the band removed if it's way too tight. I think that one of the benefits of the smaller band is that you don't have to go so many times for fills to find your sweet spot because there's less area to fill. The Dr. said it's more difficult to find the sweet spot in a larger band. Good luck with your band. I have only 1.5 cc's now and I think it's good for me for now. Take care. Sue

    Should I be hungry already?

I don't get it! How could we all have the same exact procedure done and all get different instructions from our doctors? How is it that I can only have shakes and other people are allowed mushy stages at 9 - 10 days post-op. Also the suggestion about adding some fruits to the shakes - I'll admit that it sounds elicious, but yesterday, I had maybe about 1 ounce of lot faw cheese and I have had dirreah ever since. So, that is why I am afraid to add anything that the doctor does not ok first. Here is what I did to try to solve my problem - Since I use the powdered shakes and it calls for 8 ounces of Water and 2 scoops of mix, I make one big batch for the day (3 servings); but instead of using 24 ounces of water, I am using 28 ounces of water and adding one more scoop of powder. I'll let you guys know tomorrow how I hold up today. Thanks to all of you for your help! I really appreciate hearing everyone's opinion - it really helps! Eileen

    Water retention???? Help!

Ok guys, I need some opinions. I am experiencing major water retention. I used to go up anywhere between 5-10 lbs anywhere from 5-7 days before I started my period then once I started my period it would leave. So I have currently been swollen for 3 weeks. My ankles are kankles and I can't get my rings on. I thought this started because on 4/17 I did a 30 mile bike ride. I ate some rice and a little pasta 2 days before so I would have some carbs to burn off. I don't tolerate pasta to well anymore so only had a tiny bit of it. Anyways I thought oh I am a little swollen becuase of the carbs holding water. Did my 30 mile bike ride. The next week still swollen. Then this past week still swollen but it was period week. Well period has come and gone and I am still swollen. Maybe not as bad but still bad enough that I still don't have ankles and can't get my rings on. Does anyone have any suggestions/home remedies? I have tried several and even over the counter diuretic. It didn't help just turned my pee blue(color of the pill). Should I talk to my Dr. about this?

how much should I be eating?

I am 4 weeks out and I will have between 1/2 & 1 cup of food per sitting depending on what it is. Do you have a calorie mark that you have to hit? I was given a list of appropriate mushie food and these goals. Calories 800, Fat 22 grams, protien 68 grams. I haven't been able to meet them with what I am eating (I run out of time during the day) but am getting real close. This is my normal day 8oz protien shake 8am 4 oz carb countdown yogurt 10:30ish 1/2 cup tuna w/mayo and 2 saltines 1pm 4 oz applesauce or Jello 4pm 8 oz Soup or 2 oz meat and some vegtables 7pm I sneak in 1 cup of coffee some days and lots of Water everyday (except weekends - I am not on schedule then and do rather poorly at getting half of what I need) I should throw in another protien shake after dinner but I don't usually get hungry before bed (WOW, isn't that a change) Hope this helps,

Just had surgery in Dec 08

Hi there! Hang in there! It is very rough in the beginning.I'm almost 8 weeks out now and am finally really to start to feel "normal" again.I too had alot of pain & hunger in the beginning. It gets better and easier. I'm still sore from time to time at my incision site and do still experience hunger but nothing unbearable.I have only had 1 fill of .5cc.And am due to see my doc on Jan 14th for another fill.I've lost almost 40 alltogether, they made me lose before surgery 10 lbs. One thing I'm learning is this is a "learning" experience. And you will figure it out.Just hang in there one day at a time and soon the weight will be coming off and you too will be feeling great!! Keep reading the website & asking lots of questions,,there is alot of valuable info here!! Take care & know your not alone we've all been there!!

    New and have questions

Kiz summed it up pretty well. I had insurance (tricare standard) and it took me about 4 weeks from seminar to surgery (7/10 to 8/11) but there was no doubt, at 405, that I met the criteria. No tinkering with BMI etc etc.
