  1. NickelChip - keep track of your measurements. That happened to me - my weight was so slow, but the first time I measured myself ,I lost 15 inches ! I'm glad you feel so great after surgery !

    If that medication is the one I am thinking of that includes Wellbutrin and one other drug it may be your culprit. I don’t have experience with the weight loss drug but I do know Wellbutrin by itself can be a very bad one to go off of too fast. I realize you weren’t prescribed it for depression but you say you have always been depressed so if it was actually treating your depression and your no longer taking it or your body is not absorbing it now it’s possible that your depression has worsened due to the dose of an antidepressant decreasing too quickly. I am not a doctor and not certain that’s how it works with the other drug involved but i do know I have been cautioned about needing to wean off of Wellbutrin slowly and not to ever stop it cold Turkey. Like others have mentioned it could also be post surgery blues plus you are going through a lot of changes between having to cope with things without food and the situations you are dealing with in life but if you don’t feel better I would reach out to the doctor who prescribed you the weight loss drug and/or your surgeon and see if that makes sense to them. Keep posting here and try journaling to get your feelings out. Perhaps consider talking to a therapist as well if you continue to feel this way. They will instantly expand your support network and they can help you work on some new coping strategies that don’t involve food.

    February 2024 Surgery Buddies?

    Did another closet purge over the weekend and cleared out 5 huge bags of clothes. It's a nice feeling to let the old stuff go, and happily, thanks to a few shopping trips, a bin of smaller clothing I had saved from a few years ago, and some hand me downs from a friend, I have plenty to get me through the warm weather. Once winter arrives, I will definitely need to buy clothing because I've gotten rid of about 90% of my long sleeve clothes and sweaters! Is anyone noticing what you prefer to wear is changing? I was really favoring loose, flowing items that hid my extra weight before. Especially those wraps or kimonos you can find so many places that you wear over a tunic, partly because they are one-size so I could buy them even when the store didn't carry my size in anything else. But the other day, I actually tucked a t-shirt into the waistband of a denim skirt and wore it out with nothing over it! And I'm loving sundresses with a belted waist. Obviously right now I'm not spending too much and trying to stick with basics just to get me through, but I'm really curious what I'll end up buying when I get to my final weight. If I could reach a US size 12, I can't even imagine how it would feel. Right now, I'm wearing between a 16 to 18, depending where it's from and the cut. That's down from probably a size 22. I say probably because I started going for stretchy stuff and would buy a 2x or 3x so I didn't have a lot of stuff that was an actual numerical size.
  4. It appears I'm also experiencing a 3 week stall. At 2 weeks post op (surgery 1/24/24) I had lost 10 lbs. It's now 3 weeks post op and I'm still the same weight. I sure hope this stall doesn't last a month! I have been discouraged a bit, I think, because any time I've tried to lose weight in the past it has been agonizingly slow and not permanent. I had hoped that I'd lose faster after VSG and I found myself thinking this morning that I did this drastic and permanent thing just to have the same result I have always had - no weight loss for weeks at a time despite my best efforts. Reading about this "infamous" stall gives me a little hope, although I don't understand how I'm not losing weight when I'm consuming 500 calories a day or less, mostly protein and no fats/sugar. I appreciate the topic and the comments, and I'm hoping the stall breaks soon!

      You can hit quote to reply to someone, or you can use the "at" symbol and their name to tag without quoting. To update your details, you want to go to your profile and go to the My Surgery tab. I've heard this can be hard to do on a phone, so try it on a laptop if you can. It'll let you fill in your starting weight, current weight, surgery date, etc. Also, you can create tickers under the My Tickers section.

    1300 calorie pre-surgery diet

    Wow. Every cell in my body is telling me that this new regime is so wrong. I have no idea why anyone would want you on such a low calorie diet. It seems to me she wants you to diet the weight off rather than have the surgery. Did you ask why ? You are on the lower weight for the surgery. Loose much more and you may be too low to meet the criteria. My maintenance diet has me on 1500 calories and I don't exercise. If I worked and exercised as I did in my younger days, I would be on about 2200 - 2500 cals a day. You need to be fit and healthy for your surgery. Such a low calorie diet is too restrictive. Why is the diet not more future proofed, for learning new habits, like less carbonation, less sugar and less carbs. These seem to be the goals that are set by others who have to do a pre op diet rather than a pre op liver shrink diet. I hope others will wade in and help you here because to me its madness
  7. More stats would be really helpful OP - agree with Arabesque. If you're close to your goal weight or a 'normal' BMI then weight loss will naturally slow and can plateau for long periods but then lose some more. A few pounds on shouldn't necessarily mean the end of your loss forever. If you're straying from your programme then it might be good to stick to that rigidly for a few weeks to see if it will get you back on track.

    Did i plateau

    I am sure you have just reached a stall period, don't let it worry you, EVERYONE has gone through it, or is going through it, as it is raised as a topic here every few days it feels like. Your body is trying to adjust to the new you, new routines etc. so even if the scale has stalled (or even goes up a bit) you may be loosing inches etc. Over the last year I have had a few stalls and it is frustrating but part of the process. It also gets harder/slower as you get closer to your natural weight as there is less to loose. When it has happened I have upped my exercise (an extra walk or longer walk, more time in the pool etc.) to try and give the body a little nudge to get loosing again not sure if it helps or not but makes me feel better. Try not to stress and just keep up the positive changes you have made. It is seriously not that long into this part of your journey.
  9. Hi! How are you feeling now? I thought I was crazy because I had jaundice as well, and thought maybe it’s the vitamin making my skin color change. I was yellow for about 3 days. I gain 7 lbs of water retaining as well, and my stomach also was swollen, but when I had the sleeve I was fine. I felt like I was at my last trimester about to give birth. My surgery was 1/22 and the swollen is going down, but still not so comfortable. Would love to know how you are doing!

    They are way more delicious than they should be. LOL Thank you for the compliment!! I've lost the same amount as you, 75.5 lbs !! Though I adjust the weight through the side thing on the right and it only does whole numbers... I can't believe you've lost that much so soon! You are hoofin' it to your goal!

    What's to slow?? Is this to slow?

    At 9 months out, 800 calories per day seems extremely restrictive. Has your dietician explained why you are supposed to be at such a low amount? Most sources I've seen that provide calorie ranges suggest 1000-1200 calories per day by that point (1000 calories by 6 months, gradually increasing to 1200 by 1 year post-op). If your body thinks you are starving, it will lower your metabolism and cling to every ounce of fat, and weight loss will slow or stop. Is it possible your body requires more nourishment than what you are giving it?
  12. Normal. We lose weight in "stair steps" .... not a downward slide. ( I wish it was just a slide !!! )

    Total Carbs or Net Carbs?

    okay kinda what I thought. Yesterday my total carbs were 48g but next was only 23g. Im losing weight but dang it makes me nervous to see that high carb count lol!

    5 years out not losing weight

    Just adding my voice to the general advice to eat 3-4oz of protein per meal (chicken breast seems best for you?) Then a couple of oz of green veg. Berries for snacks if you really need those. Ditch everything else from that plate? I totally agree there's nothing awful on it but if you are fighting a new set weight (WLS can do a number on that) you might need to redraw the lines of battle. Strictly protein and green veg till you're losing consistently?

    Eating Changes 3 months post RNY Surgery

    "also fear having to eat in public or in front of those that do not know I have had surgery." Isn't it a shame that with all the push these days to accept everyone for who/what they are, its still acceptable to fat shame and be judgemental of others for a medical condition? Its the one thing left that people deem an "acceptable" judgement because people feel its all our fault - as if we just pushed away from the table more people wouldn't be over weight. Judgemental people continue to do so without societal repercussions. I've seen the same people jump on someone for saying things about being judged for them being LGBQ, yet these same ppl said some nasty things to me and others for being obese! Everyone should be able to go out and enjoy dining out without fear of being watched. I too understand why you'd fear this, but you need to get to a point in your life that others opinions of you just don't matter, especially strangers. Once you get there it can be quite liberating! You deserve to enjoy your life without others condemning your living it!
  16. Welp.... I did it... barely, but it was so nice to see this number! It's been over 20 years since I've been under 200 pounds. (my feet aren't as dirty as they look in the picture! lol) As for the knee, the doctor said he's pretty sure it's sciatica. I would have never guessed that. I have had problems with my sciatic nerve before, but always in the lower back/buttocks area. He explained that the nerve goes down through the back knee, and that's where my pain and swelling are. He saw some arthritis in the x-rays, but not enough to be causing this pain. He's got me on a six-day steroid pack. I'm praying it works because this pain is horrible! Let's hope I can keep the weight down while on steroids! Hope you are all doing well!

    My cousin experienced early menopause in her late 30s too. It was a shock to her as well. Thankfully she had a good & supportive doctor. I hope the functional medicine doctor is able to help you. I’d seriously consider going down the HRT route. I’ve been on it for about 8 years. I had an absorption issue with it after my gall was removed but we sorted that.     50 and over crowd?

    I had surgery at age 55. No issues. I was a slow loser, but I don't know if that was related to my age or not. Some younger people lose slowly, too. That said, I lost 100% of my excess weight, over 200 lbs. So no, it was no problem at all.

    May 2024 Surgery Buddies 😁

    I am scheduled for an RNY Wednesday May 22! I met with the surgeon last week and when his RN came in afterwards, she goes, "we can get you on the schedule on the 22nd first thing in the morning." Thinking she meant June 22, I told her that would be perfect because it would give me just over a month to get things in order at work and get the house post-op friendly. She just looked at me and said, "No... May 22nd... like two weeks from now." 😅 1) I think the thing I'm most nervous about is the questions and opinions from others. I've lost almost 100 already and get comments congratulating me for "not taking the easy way out with surgery." Now that I've announced that I'll be out of work for a few weeks for a surgery, I keep getting asked about what kind. I've defaulted to saying a hiatal hernia repair. I've only told the five people in my support team the truth. 2) I'm planning on bringing my own pillow and blanket, some comfy clothes and non-slip slippers, iPad, Kindle and a couple books (I'm a mood reader so I never know what I'm going to want to read!), toiletries and bathroom items, lip balm, and a hair tie or claw clip. 3) I'm excited to just finally have it done! I'm tired of battling diets and hormones/genetics to only be able to lose 15 pounds then hitting the plateau that eventually leaves me feeling defeated, so I give up and gain the 15 pounds plus a few more back.

    Belly fat problems after surgery

    Have you checked to see if you have any uterine fibroids? I'm asking because I ended up having an abdominal total hysterectomy because I had 3 extremely large ones and they couldn't do anything laparoscopically. My stomach was the size of someone who was 5 1/2 months pregnant. We never noticed it when I was over 400 pounds because EVERYTHING was fat on me. But once I lost a ton of weight, I finally agreed to a pap and they found the enlarged uterus. 1 ultrasound and abdominal ct later, and it was confirmed. I had the hysterectomy and my stomach is a lot flatter. Looks like it's supposed to.

Thank you so much for this!!! i think maybe the reason I heard a hysterectomy isn't a cure is because nowadays, many doctors aren't removing the ovaries if the woman hasn't hit menopause naturally yet. But my doctor is amazing and she said since I was having so many issues with ALL of my female plumbing (that's actually how she said it lol) I could have them removed along with everything else and go on HRT if I wanted. I jumped at it and have been completely happy with that choice. So it makes sense that my PCOS is gone now that both ovaries are, too, and the major stumbling block with losing weight is also gone. Thanks again!!!!
  23. I am so sorry that this has happened, it must be so traumatic. Lots of us get the ' was it worth it feeling' with out the issues you have had to get through. When you feel more in charge of your pain and more sure of the process, you may feel it really was worth it. I did. The rapid weight loss and anaesthetic also makes you feel weak and tired. As you eat a little more you will regain your strength and start surging ahead hopefully. Good luck and good healing
  24. So if any of you have read my story on here, you will know I have PCOS. I am 28 now, and I was diagnosed when I was 21. I haven't really had a regular cycle, and in the past 2 years I have probably only had 3 times where I have bled REALLY light. I wouldn't even call it a period 🤣 So now I have lost weight, in the past 2 and a bit months I have had 2 periods - proper ones! I am both elated but also now reminded of the annoyance of them 😂 Grateful to my body for functioning, but boy oh boy, the hormones?!?! I have been an absolute wreck this week - angry, depressed, sad, crying, detached, more angry. 🤦‍♀️ On an interesting note though, I was really struggling with my restriction - I really need to be eating more - and I noticed that whilst on my period I could eat more which was good! Anyway, just a bit of an observation from me 😂

    What am I doing wrong?

    My dietitian has told me that I’m not eating enough and need to add more carbs in. I’ve done that this week and currently gained a pound this week 🫤
