Did you solve your “head hunger” before surgery?
Matt Z replied to Chevron's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It'll never fully go away. But understanding the triggers helps. For me, I stood in front of the candy Isle and looked at all the candy that I love, and internally said "F you candy, you are tasty but you are not good for me, you only work to make me feel like crap, yes, I'll enjoy you for a moment, but the damages you cause are not worth the momentary good taste." I confronted everything I wouldn't be able to or shouldn't eat again, head on. It's helped out greatly. I also found swaps for things. Finding something that will satisfy the craving while still being within your diet restrictions helps greatly. I was a HUGE Ice Cream guy. Can't do that crap anymore, I found Halo Top "ice cream" that's super low in calories and fits my post bypass restrictions. I typically only eat 1/8th of a pint or so, but even if I ate the whole pint, it's still only a max of 320 calories or so. Things like that, find things you can substitute for the bad stuff. It helps get you through the mental BS. It did for me anyway, maybe it'll work out for someone else. -
My first post here, awaiting insurance approval!

He said hed go over options with me in my final follow up... -
Aunt flo is killing me! Any advice?
TakingABreak replied to Real California April's topic in The Gals' Room
Could you do an IUD? I'm normally not an advocate, but in your situation if you can't take BC pills, I would recommend something to regulate your hormones and cycles. Have you met with your gyno since surgery to discuss your increased flow? -
So the doc wants me on a stool softener daily pretty much. He said to use MiraLax and instead of it helping my stool soften, im staying constipated and getting awful tummy cramps. Im going to call him tomorrow bc hes in surgery all day today, but has this happened to anyone else?

Not trying to "win" anything. Just pointing out that this is a wls forum where we should be discussing wls not bashing a group of people. I came here to read about wls not transphobic bs. This type of content should be removed. Sent from my SM-G960U using BariatricPal mobile app -
Chapstick for when you are in the hospital. It saved me. Also, I had a phone charger that had a light up cord. It was easy to find considering all the other wires and stuff I had going on (two IVs, a heart monitor and about 6 leads attached to my body). I also bought a water bottle with the fluid ounces on it so I could monitor how much I was drinking when I was home recovering. Lots of people get gasx strips for the hospital. I bought them but did not need them. For when you're home, comfortable clothing. You're basically going to be walking, drinking water/protein and sleeping lol If you buy protein shakes, get more than one flavor. I only bought caramel and now I won't even touch them bc that's all I drank for a week.

Congratulations on your surgery! For the vitamins, try one of those vitamin holds that has different compartments. I have one that has four compartments per day and throw it in my purse so I never forget to take my vitamins. For the calcium, try the bariatric advantage calcium chewables. They taste like starburst. The calcium citrate pills are huge, no matter which brand. The liquids are very important the first few weeks bc it's easy to become dehydrated. No one likes the diet the first few weeks but you will be so happy once you can start eating soft foods and regular foods! Good luck!

BCBSIL Duodenal Switch- Has anyone been approved?
misskim3297 replied to trilla's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
I was approved for DS surgery through BCBSIL but it took multiple submissions. They were very picky about all the paperwork. It was denied the first time bc they couldn't find the cover page for the 45 pages that were faxed over. The bariatric coordinator had to offer/threaten to have the surgeon contact the insurance company. Then it got approved lol My BMI was over 50 so I didn't have that issue. You just have to keep on the insurance company and your surgeon's office. Good luck! -
Post op pain - be honest
TX4everLinds replied to tahoegirl96118's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My story is different than most. I’m 12 days post op. Was hospitalized on day 10/11 due to pain nausea and heartburn. I still can’t keep anything down. They’re saying it’s reflux so I’m praying it passes. I’m pretty miserable and barely drinking anything. Pain meds made it worse bc constipation but they did help me sleep at first. -
5 days post op VGS, but I don't feel different
notaslavetofood replied to notaslavetofood's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes! I've been kind of freaked out at how well I've tolerated liquids and how thirsty I stay. I haven't had any problems drinking other than having to stop myself from guzzling just bc i was told it will come back up or hurt. Thank you!! Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app -
5 days post op VGS, but I don't feel different
notaslavetofood replied to notaslavetofood's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you so much. I've been a little discouraged today bc of it. I'm SO thankful my recovery has been smooth so far but I was a little concerned bc I don't "feel" different. I guess it's just a process of retraining my mind as I go? Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app -
Rant away! But it may be best to have it when the nurse's aren't striking or thinking about striking. Can you imagine recovery care with fed up nurses? No thanks... Hopefully they resolve it and your surgery happens soon!

There is a difference between unflavored and flavorless. Unflavored only means that there is no flavoring added to cover the natural flavor of whatever protein they are selling. Flavorless is just about unobtainable unless you look at Genepro which is snakeoil. Totally worthless BS from an unreputable company. But it mixes well and has no flavor, so many people buy it.

Summer 2018 Surgery Buddies: POST-OP Discussion
AEdoesRnY replied to Ylime's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I’m trying to get up the courage to wear this dress to work tomorrow. It’s definitely not my usual style bc usually I hide in basics, but I bought this from Amazon for like $19 and I really like it but feel self-conscious and unsure... Edited to add a pic from 1 week post op for comparison...though the clothing and stance is really not apples to apples! Yea or nay? -
How much time off from work?
rosie6 replied to Swanton_Bomb's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You must work for NYC as I had the same issue. GHI says that you can have it with 3 months supervised however the city has contracted with BC/BS to approve the procedure and they have a 6 month rule that they use. Makes no sense to me that GHI says three months when they know that it s not an honest statement . I plan on taking off one week . Two at the most and I commute as well. I think that if you get up and start exercising for 20 mintues per day starting day 1 it helps you get your energy and strength back faster. What hospital are you using ? My MD submitted the pre approval at 3 months and it was denied , but his office kep the case open and I was approved three days after they submitted the 6 months of medical notes. My surgery is Sept 25 -

Help! Weight gain 4 months Post Partum
Sleeved36 replied to reachbree's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
There are a bunch of lactation cookie recipes online that include brewers yeast, you could start there. Never tried them bc I suck at baking, but they looked good. Breastfeeding is half of the reason I needed surgery. I was "stocky" for my whole life and gained small, but appropriate amounts of weight in pregnancy. BUT breastfeeding turned me into an eating machine. The hormones released with breastfeeding can mess with you. I ate like crazy, but still always felt hungry. I breastfed both of my boys for over 1 year and that led to being up 60 pounds after 2 kids. 😢 Orchids is right too, get more sleep. Nap all you can. Tired makes you want carbs/sugar. Hang in there! It is tough, but you have already been through a lot and overcome! -
Intermittent Fasting Daily Menu/Results/Accountability
sillykitty replied to FluffyChix's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I was doing sooo well yesterday. No hunger, pushed my first "meal" to 3pm, still no hunger, good on protein, fluids, supplements, low cals. And then I started looking up restaurants in Rome for my upcoming vacation, and all that "no hunger" bs was out the window, and Postmates was showing up at my door It's interesting because I felt like such a failure last night when I caved. But I was still in a 5 hr window, my cals, were still low for most people, I only ate till full then threw out the rest. So basically it didn't wreck my day, but the guilt! If this had been a planned meal out, where I just made an unwise choice, I'd barely feel bad at all. Today is a new day. Thankfully the late-ish carbs didn't wake up my hunger monster. We'll see how today goes, but IF is the plan (carbonara is not). -

Sleeved 9/5/18 Still in hospital
TX4everLinds replied to TX4everLinds's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My day 7 was less than stellar y’all. For starters I was woken up early and couldn’t go back to sleep bc it was just about an hour and a half before my pain med - right when everything starts hurting again and you really want to be sleeping. So I laid here for the time until medicine was due, took it and then crashed out and didn’t wake up until 2 hours later. This sounds great but my morning routine has been to wake up, take my pain medicine, pee and hopefully at least toot! Weigh myself. Then take a walk with a protein shake. So my whole fluids schedule was messed up and I just was not feeling well. I’d like to add that without a heating pad I could not have gotten through the last week so there’s a lifesaving tidbit for you. My afternoon medicine went down too quickly and with too much water somehow and I immediately had hideously painful heartburn accompanied with drooling and extreme pain. Staggered to the other room to find my husband who helped me by gently rubbing my back and helping me burp for like 20 minutes. It is hard to explain but it was a very trying ordeal. I started to wonder if I had pushed myself too hard yesterday and this was the price? I’m still not sure. I’m still trying to drink and am in bed but not asleep yet. Here’s hoping that tomorrow is much more manageable and that I don’t have any more setbacks! Regarding weight loss, I’m losing about a pound a day at this point. I was 242 day of surgery and 241 the next day when I got home so I didn’t gain any of the hospital weight I guess. My current weight as of this morning was 236. We’ll see what tomorrow holds. I was pooping sorta but have stopped and, like frustr8, welcome the poo fairy anytime! -
How old were you when?
chattycat replied to xoxococojay's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
After a lifetime of yo-yo dieting I finally had RNY in July just before my 61st birthday. Mostly I was worried about my future health and just fed up with weight loss failure. I wish I could have been successful without surgery but finally realized I couldn’t do it on my own so hoping the surgery will help me kick this for good! Down almost 30 lbs since surgery! 🤞 -

CAN I HAVE HOT CHOCOLATE ON MY PRE-OP LIQUID DIET?
Matt Z replied to Lovely_Me's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Does your pre-op diet say you can? Did you ask your doctor? I'm going to go with "NO" on all accounts, including answering your question about being able to drink it pre-op. Pre-op is when you REALLY want to work on getting out of bad habits and wrangling in those bs cravings.
