September Surgery Buddies!!
Sleeve_Me_Alone replied to happilylacey's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'll echo what others have said: the 3 week stall is REAL. There are THOUSANDS of posts here from folks who stall somewhere between week 3-6 for 1-3 weeks, sometimes more. Your body is likely rebounding from surgery and catching up with all the changes. Give it time, be patient, stay the course, follow your plan. It won't last forever, and it will happen again. Its all just part of the process. If its taxing you mentally, maybe take a week or two break from the scale. Take body measurements for a couple weeks instead, or use photos to track progress. Remember that the scale is only ONE measure of progress, other things can be just as valuable. Lastly, a TRUE stall is generally considered 3+ weeks; 4 days is absolutely nothing. You're right where you're supposed to be! -
March 23 buddies yet?
greeneyedgirl79 replied to ceri84's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you! After doing a bit of digging through the forums, I see the typical "3 week stall" all over the place. I'll just keep on keeping on and look forward to the results! Thanks again for the reassurance and encouragement! Sent from my SM-S918U using BariatricPal mobile app -
Yes I revised. I had to get rid of the band and then I had the RNY. This occurred on August 25th. I seem to have hit the 3 week stall however and hope that the weight starts moving again. :bored:

169.2. After starting the challenge with a 3 week stall & that big loss last week, I'm ok with not hitting my challenge goal. Thank you so much for doing this!! Can't wait for the next one! -
Yeah it sucks so I don’t know if I’m harming myself rather than helping with suck low calorie intake but I can’t force it it hurts. I just know I hit the 3 week stall

March 23 buddies yet?
greeneyedgirl79 replied to ceri84's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just wanted to check in on all the March 2023 peeps and see how it's going! As for me, I was sleeved on 3/24/23. Lost 12.3 lbs before surgery and have lost 21.3 lbs since surgery, for a total of 33.6 lbs at 6 wks post-op. This feels slow to me, and I often wonder if I'm doing something wrong. I had the dreaded 3 week stall and then a big "woosh" of several pounds in a week. I tolerate every food I try and get my 64 oz in which is great, but I don't feel much restriction anymore, and I definitely get hungry before 3 hrs. I try to get at least 15 grams of protein every 3 hours, but I'm still hungry. 😩 I also probably need to get back to walking. I'm one of those that is very reliant on the scale even though I definitely know how exercise works and how muscle weighs more but also burns more fat. My energy has been LOW, and as soon as I took a break from walking my 2.5 miles a day to try and rest a bit, I had the big movement on the scale. So, I haven't started back up for that reason. I'm just not the type of person that can withstand the scale stalls and comfort myself with "muscle weighs more." Pitiful, I know. I'm so dang impatient. Once I make a decision, I want it now! (I know it doesn't work that way, but 🤷🏼♀️ I can't help it!). How's it going for everyone else? -
3 week stall...you suck.

Yes you will get through it and probably have a good weight loss when you do break it. I had my surgery in Jan and I have had 3 stalls all ready. This last one lasted 2 weeks and then I dropped 12 pounds in the next 2 weeks. This is a fantastic thread called Embrace the Stall http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/351046-embrace-the-stall/page-13?hl=+embrace++the++stall#entry4154431

I hear you! The scale isn't moving much....but my clothes are getting bigger! There are already things I can't wear.....which is awesome...

so much for starting to feel better...
Lamonica2013 posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
After hitting a nearly 3 week stall I finally started losing again this past week slowly. Finally I was starting to feel better and not so down on myself. I went to see my doctor today and I've lost 7 lbs in the last month. Instead of hearing words of encouragement he told me I wasn't doing a good enough job and need to work harder. I explained to him I hit a stall and couldn't lose and nd I just started losing again. His words "well you just have to work through it". It didn't matter how hard I worked I couldn't lose it. I really thought I was doing good. Was even kinda proud of myself and need starting to accept this new life style better now I feel like I'm back at square one and did nd depressed again. -
2 week stall at about 2 1/2 months post op
Lmztude replied to canuckpaisa's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is very normal. The key is 60-80 grams of protein daily, eat carbs because they give your body energy, drink water and exercise. When you add excercise to the mix it confuses the body even more and it needs some time to catch up. Trust me it will catch up. I was in a 3 week stall at 35lbs...happy to say i am now at 50lbs, joined a gym...confused my body but when it caught up it caught up fast!! Dont stress it keep going and the weight will come off. By the way...GREAT job!! Dont forget to celebrate your success!! -
3 week stall happens to most people
-
Good morning everyone!! It's been 5 months already, hurray! So far down 71 lbs but for the last 3 weeks I haven't lost anything =(... Still exercising 5 times a week and eating the same amounts.. but not sure if its a normal stall or what! Anyone experienced a stall around this month? I'm just thinking its weird since I am burning what I intake, maybe it is the muscle I am gaining.. The trainer measured me and I did increase muscle on my legs... not sure if that is holding me back..

This is WORSE than a stall! Frustrated...

Are you drinking Protein shakes? Even at 10 months out, this is how I meet protein and Fluid goals. I make a smoothie every morning and drink it late morning/early afternoon. I've got at least 8 different Protein powder flavors to choose from and then add even more variety with fruit, PB2, Torani syrups and Mio Water drops. My smoothies are 24-32oz liquid, 25-40g protein (depending on what type of protein powder a I use and whether it's made with milk or water) and 5-10g Fiber. So I'm killing 3 birds with one stone (fluids, protein, fiber) and easily meeting the other 1/2 of my goals through high protein food, tea, coffee, water and juice. You need to Try and figure out how to drink and eat more. I had only lost 17 pounds at 6 weeks postop, then gained 3 pounds and sat there for a month. That was when In was sick from a medication I was taking. As soon as I stopped the medication, I ate and drank at least twice as much and dropped 8 pounds in 1 week! Slow but steady loss (with just a couple. 2-3 week stalls) ever since. Good luck. PS. go ahead and eat 5-6 tiny, healthy meals/day if you have to....I do. It's better than Peanut Butter and ice cream. -

Can you give us a picture of what your eating, how much, fluid intake, exercise routine? this would help immensely. You might of just had the cursive 3 week stall. Can't wait to get this info. Wish I could help more at this moment, but will after info. -
Hi everyone. This Sunday will make 3 weeks for me and for the past week or so I have been at the same weight. I briefly saw a 2 lb drop but that was a flash in the pan - maybe I was dehydrated that am…... Do you all stall this early out? How do you deal with it? Thanks BP family!

Stalled at 7 weeks out
Nomoreweight replied to SunChild2012's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just went through a 3 week stall, I know exactly how you feel. Make sure you are getting all your protein and water in, I have a real hard time with both. I have lost 4 lbs. since the stall in the last week. Hang in there, it will pass, stick to your routine and you shouldn't have any problem. When did you have your surgery, mine was Oct. 30 and I have lost 28 lbs. -
WL @ 1 month post-op?
SlimJill replied to bigfatgoodbye's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I lost 21 pounds in the pre-op, 5 pounds the first week, and then hit a near 3 week stall after that. Luckily now at 8 weeks post-op I haven't had another stall *fingers crossed* -
Stalls happen. And you will likely experience a couple of them as you’re losing. They tend to last 1-3 weeks but some people do experience longer ones. They can be very frustrating. I thought of mine as my body taking a breath to catch up with all the changes. It’s been going through a lot Some people say increase your caloric intake, others say to up your activity. I never changed a thing & mine always broke. Though this video from Dr Matt Weiner is in response to a stall when moving through the post surgical stages (the 3 week stall) it really applies to all stalls while we are losing. (The question is a little long.)

Pretty sure I hit my 3 week stall a week early. I'm thinking it has something to do with me losing 20 lbs on my pre-op diet + 18 lbs the first week and a half post-op. I'm averaging between 59 and 77 grams of Protein per day and getting in all of my fluids (60+ oz), so I'm pretty sure that's not it. I haven't even started pureed or soft foods yet, just liquids. And, for me, that is Protein shakes, Water, and an occasional 12 oz bottle of G2. I'll have Soup broth a couple of nights a week if I'm feeling it. Any ideas on how to break it? I'm pretty sure this has been posted several times, but I can't seem to find the post.

5 Weeks Out Of Surgery....stalling Already
former_vbg replied to carriecat's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Relax..... stalls are part of the process, ESPECIALLY this early in your journey. I'm surprised you didn't have the traditional "3 week stall". Your body has to catch up with itself. Remember, you just went through MAJOR surgery. There are only a handful of people I have seen post on this board that had a continued weight loss their entire journey and even fewer who had rapid weight loss during their entire journey. Just keep doing what your doing. It sounds like you are just fine with Protein, protein, protein, drinking your Water or other no calorie/ sugar free drinks. Others have made suggestions to take measurements of yourself because while the scale may not be moving, your body is likely still changing!!!! -
First and foremost, I am so thankful that I was able to have the VSG procedure. Secondly I have had a very good recovery period (few little issues but nothing major). Third, I have great spousal support and family/friend support. (Please know I am not bragging just giving background information. I have lost 36 pounds total (24 since surgery 5/29/13 and 12 pre-op liquid diet). Here is my issue: I feel like I have stalled with my weightloss. I have read an article about the 3 week stall. I will be 5 weeks Wednesday. Wondering if my stall is now? I have just recently (last week - returned to my gym (healthplex through my local hospital) had great session talking with staff and setting up my routine). I will be starting back full time this week. I am following my WL Clinics guidelines in regards to diet - getting in my Protein (on the lower end 60 grams) and Water (on the lower end 64 oz - sometimes little under) What can I do to start seeing a loss again? Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Note - I weigh once a week on Tuesday's and occassionly on Monday morning to see if I am on track for Tuesday's official weigh in (that is day I record and measure and yes I have had inches lost). Am I just being impatient because I am so excited about the weight loss I have seen thus far? Thanks in advance for reading and letting me vent/whine. I know this is a hard journey!!!

3 week stall with weight gain, normal?
sjuarez posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I've heard of the 3rd week stall! And guess how many weeks post op am I? Yep three weeks, but now my scale is saying am up a pound or two. And it's messing with my head! Is it because am on soft foods? Am feeling confused. -
Yeah use the search feature on here. 3 week stall. Very common. You will never lose weight continuously. Peaks and valleys. Sent from my SM-G930P using the BariatricPal App
