NEVER thought I would be asking this

I had a revision surgery from sleeve to SADI a week ago today and I am a little concerned about how fast I am losing. Between the pre op diet and now I have lost 26 pounds. I think 14 pounds Pre Surgery and 12 this week. What’s odd is that the surgeon warned me that with it being a revision my loss would be quite a bit slower than with a virgin surgery and I don’t think I lost quite this fast with my sleeve. Obviously I want to lose And the faster the better so long as it’s still healthy. I have my first post op tomorrow and I plan to ask the NP but I am just curious to hear what others here have experienced. Maybe I’m worrying too soon. It could be that everyone loses this quick this early out regardless of vigin surgery or revision. It’s just something on my mind and I’m curious about what others experience has been with revision surgeries. Did you lose pretty quickly the first week as well? -
I recently heard about a supplement from a plant called moringa? Has anyone as a gastric bypass patient taken this? Does it help with anything? Sent from my SM-G981U1 using Tapatalk

The pain didn't start off intense. How high of a dose are you on and how often do you take it? Is it daily? Once a day or more often? Have you had to increase the dose or does the dose you currently take keep it controlled? If you're well controlled on a low dose, you're probably ok to stay on it. If you're not well controlled and need to increase and this continues, then you might have to look at a revision at some point. High doses of PPI aren't meant to be taken long term, and the higher the dose for a longer amount of time, the higher the chances you will likely need a revision.

I got my surgery date today... November 29th... Gastric Bypass... Now to start planning, getting together everything I need and trying to not stress myself out until then....

I set a timer for every 15 minutes and drink an ounce of water. This is what they had me do in the hospital and it works great. I had gastric bypass on 10/22/24 HW: 395 SW: 261 CW: 246 -
courtesy of google: you can see that the stomach is in fact smaller after a revision to bypass. and main diff is bypass also "bypasses" the pyloric valve, while sadi/ds still makes use of it (as does the original sleeve). ...but how your surgeon would do either surgery "without touching" your stomach is a head scratcher. can you go back to your surgeon and have them explain your surgery to you (with pictures, if need be!). dont leave until you completely understand. while we can offer our knowledge and experience, we are not doctors...and you may get conflicting info on here that confuses you more.

Ooh yea as @NickelChip just stated and reminded me that they may want an upper GI and/or endoscopy if you have suspected or diagnosed GERD or prior abdominal surgeries. Or some doctors just require them for everyone (I think to look for hernias before they go in there). I have Mild GERD from the sleeve so he wanted those two tests as well as a gastric emptying study prior to my deciding on which surgery is best for my revision (bypass or SADI). That was a pretty complex decision though, since I had already have the sleeved stomach and GERD. I wouldn’t expect all three for a virgin surgery. -
Multivitamin that is Sadi specific or no?

Hi there! Been on my surgery journey for a few years now and I'm finally coming up on my RYGB surgery date in a couple weeks. It might just be nerves but over the last couple of months I've started to rethink whether I'm making the wrong decision with the going with the bypass. I spoke to my surgeon about a week ago & expressed I might want to switch to SADI. She said it's ultimately my choice, but she feels like RYGB is a better fit for me personally as I have a history of GERD (currently mild) and that she's concerned I might lose too much weight with SADI - I need to lose 100lbs. I've been reading & watching a lot of posts from people that have had each procedure & I'm really concerned with the idea of throwing up & having to eat a couple of bites per meal the rest of my life. The thing is, I rarely see anyone post complications with SADI. They seem to eat small meals but not as small as restrictive as RYGB patients & while they experience diarrhea - I don't see posts about vomiting. I mean, does everyone experience vomiting & dumping syndrome with RYGB? Does anyone know people that have had poor experiences with SADI? Ultimately, am I making the wrong decision by not going with SADI? -

Hi! I was banded with a Realize band in 2008. Went from 235 to 150 and I've been between 150 and 165 for years. I'm now having serious complications with the band. Lots of complications but the worst is an "oozing sore" around 75% of my Esophagus. I've had such great success with the band and I'm nervous about going to a RNY. I really don't want to weigh less than 150. Is a revision just going to put me back into rapid weight loss? Any revision weight loss/gain stories are greatly appreciated. I need someone to hold my hand! -

Hello everyone, I’ve gone through the long process of trying to get a revision surgery after gaining most of the weight back after having the sleeve in 2014. I’ve had mental health issues in the years following and also developed GERD and High blood pressure in the recent years since. The insurance company (BCBS of North Carolina) has been giving me issues from the start first saying that my surgeon wasn’t in network so they wouldn’t cover the surgery. Upon further investigation from my doctors office the real issue was them denying my claim for a revision because there was a lack of evidence showing that I followed proper diet and exercise after my first surgery. Has any experienced something similar? I have the two comorbidities and my bmi is currently 45 so I’m just kinda in shock they denied me especially without even informing me. -
Did your surgeon explain why he thought a re sleeve would be appropriate/help? Was there any mention of RNY bypass? Are you self paying or going through insurance? Let us know how it goes!

The SADI is a modified version of the DS where when they bypass a portion of the bowels they only need “Single Anastmosis,” which means connection and is the first two letters of the acronym SADI, instead of two anastomosis that the DS uses. They are both almost a combination or the sleeve and bypass to simplify it. They combine the sleeved stomach for restriction with the bypassed intestine for malabsorption. In terms of least to most aggressive it’s sleeve, bypass, SADI, then DS. The SADI is fairly new and is considered to be a relatively safe option with that single connection lessening the risk for leaks by at least half and overall risks are less than the DS considering the weight loss is not a lot less. Like the DS it can be done in one surgery or in two steps beginning with a sleeve first and then completing the bypass portion In a second operation later (often after a patient loses enough weight to make the bypass portion safe or as in my case if they do not lose adequate weight or experience regain after the sleeve). You may also see the SADI referred to as the modified switch or SIPS surgery. And the -S in SADI-S just means with sleeve as in when the two components are done at the same time in one operation. -

I am pending revision to my sleeve and my dr said he does not do resleeves because of the high risk and occurrence of leaks and low weight loss. I am pending testing to see if I will be getting bypass or SADI. Not sure if that helps or if your doctor feels the same way but it may be a good thing to ask about. -

Hi! I haven't tried Pro Care's SADI-specific vitamins, but many find them beneficial after surgery. They can vary in how easily they go down, so starting with a small amount is wise. Regular lab monitoring is crucial post-surgery to check nutrient levels. Good luck with your revision! -

I can say that I have a good idea how you feel. 2 years ago I had my sleeve surgery. A year ago, I had my revision to bypass because of all the complications and surgeries that happened as a result of the sleeve. I lost a good year, between the tests, procedures, surgeries, complications from the surgeries, recovering from the surgeries, losing work and struggling to pay bills, etc... It took having the revision to finally get my life back. And even then, I was still fixing the last of the issues the sleeve caused. I'm so sorry today is so hard for you. Just know you're strong, you made it through, and you're doing way better now than you were then. And while the road to where you are now certainly wasn't ideal, it's led you to this point now, and you're really doing great. I'm very happy that you're doing so much better, and I fully believe things will keep going up and up and up for you -
Finally got a date. If all goes well my surgery will be November 4th. I’m having gastric bypass. I’m so excited.

That’s true. They may not call just to tell you. The only reason I asked about it was becausr they didn’t think I needed to do it for a revision at first but it turned out that I needed it and I already had surgery scheduled so i had to get it to them quickly so I followed up to make sure the Psyc’s office sent it.

Hello all .I am 47 yrs old and was sleeve in 2017..Before surgery I was 295 got down to 175 . Fast forward I am divorced single mother and I began drinking heavily gained 30 lbs so I did the endoscopic revision where they re-tighten the stomach the first week I lost 7 lbs mind u I had my revision 9/5/2024. I am almost a month out I don’t feel any restriction and I never feel full… The surgeon said I won’t feel any real restriction because Im not on a regular diet yet . i am on soft foods now but I feel myself getting very depressed because I haven’t loss anymore weight please any suggestions would be helpful.I really want to feel like myself again and lose these 30 lbs..

Seems pretty standard. I had 2 weeks off when I had my sleeve and when I had to have the revision to bypass a year later, also had 2 weeks then. I think they tend to only give longer if you have complications. Otherwise I think 2 weeks is pretty typical. Some doctor's offices will give longer if you specifically ask for it (not mine) but I don't think that's typical.
