    Nervous about Stage 4

It's going to be physically impossible for you to consume too many calories, unless you literally eat every time your stomach empties, and drink Coke between meals. I am eating four meals a day now, with two 30g Protein scoops in crystal light, and I don't break 500 calories. Then with my 30 minutes of elliptical, I'm burning about 200 calories. So when my TDEE is around 3,300 calories and my total input is 500 calories, I'm not too worried. Trust me, get an app like MyFitnessPal and start programming in everything you consume, in the exact quantities. You will see that it would be phenomenally difficult for you to eat too many calories. You'd have to actually work at it. Just follow your surgeon and dietitian's recommendations and you're going to be fine. Just never touch any drinks with sugar in them, or carbonation! I think Hormel chili is great, very easy to begin with (and also good to mix with a flavorless Protein powder like Genepro). I also liked Trader Joe's turkey meatballs, with a bit of mashed potato. Very easy starter foods. And scrambled eggs! Don't forget those. Just chew everything until you could suck it through a straw, before you swallow it. Let it sit for a while before you take another bite, because it'll feel funny at first. Get used to the feeling, and pay attention to how your stomach fills up. Eventually you'll know exactly how much food it takes to fill your stomach and you can pre-package it, which is what I do. Works perfectly.

    Protein recommendations!

I know many have said it before, but I would be lost without GENEPRO. I put it in everything I eat. You won't regret it!

    Protein recommendations!

I've just hit 5 weeks post op & cant seem to shake this stall for crap! Its been ongoing for about 2 weeks now & it's frustrating but I KNOW I'm not getting in the recommended Protein. Please suggest some protein brands & flavours you use to help get your goal in! I've tried the Syntrax nectar but only Fuzzy Navel & Carribean Cooler. Wasn't a fan of the former, but the latter is really good! I'm not looking for something with a weird after taste or anything like that. Bonus points if I can put it in Water (to make a protein rich "crystal light") or even if it's *truly* unflavoured. (Heard about GENEPRO but don't know much about them) Lay them on me! No energy on soup

Same here I'm thinking about ordering some Genepro unflavored protein and just put it in everything. I'm hoping that helps with the fatigue.

    Morning Vs Evening

The best time is when you will do it. As noted, with all of the conflicting research of varying quality, it's hard to tell what time is better, if any at all, or if that view will change over time. Further, what research there is on exercise is rarely focused on us - the obese and recovering obese, so there is another variable that throws everything into question. Exercising at a sub-optimal time is better than not exercising at the optimal time. This is somewhat similar to my advice on protein drinks - while whey isolate is generally considered to be the most available and absorbable form, the one that you will drink is better than the best thing out there that you won't drink (with the possible exception of Genepro, which only seems to be good for making expensive urine.)

    Protein meal replacement

Same thing happened to me unflavored genepro from GNC saved my life. I add it to a light Starbucks Frappucino I found at CVS in a 4 pack

    Protein

I agree with the unfavored Protein Powder!! I love GENEPRO!! It defintly has no taste. I add it to my Espresso everyday. It has 30grams of protein in one tablespoon. I consider this a WIN WIN thing. I would drink my coffee any way so its great for me. The only thing is I just wish I would have found it 3 years ago. Give it a try. It cost some but it last forever.

    Really Struggling Post-Surgery-Need Help!

Like others have said, keep drinking. And if you are able to drink more than eat, maybe try making some smoothies with Protein in them. Have you tried the GENEPRO Protein powder? Its tasteless and can be mixed in anything hot or cold with no lumps or bumps. 30 grams of protein in one tablespoon. It has been a lifesaver for me. As far as your ounces, I wouldn't even worry about that. Really. Just eat what you can as you go here at the beginning. You will be able to eat a little more each week as your tummy heals and you will get more of a regular mealtime routine down. Right now, its about liquids and trying to get in some protein. Good luck on your journey!

    Question on Unjury

I also found genepro, I lIke it much more than unjury. It dissolves better and is more concentrated, a small scoop is 30 grams vs 21 for unjury I believe. I bought it off Amazon.com.

    Weight gain

Totally get you. I wonder all the time too because I hardly ever feel full. I have over eaten maybe 3x. So I hope I'm not stretching my stomach. I don't drink protien shakes they make me gag. I get genepro and add it to 2 of my drinks because it's tasteless. Sent from my Z981 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Newbie/1st post

Hello [emoji1309] what should I bring w/ me to hospital? Will b staying overnight. What was helpful to you on your stay? I'm thinking of getting a binder, sounds right up my alley, I guess I'll ask hospital if they give one if not I'll invest in one. Protein, which best to get, I think I'll get an unflavored so I can add to stuff. I've heard of genepro & un-something? Sorry I'm all over the place here! I hope I'm posting this correctly 🤷‍♀️Surgery day 4/12/18 I'm 241lbs
  17. Are you post op? If so, follow your surgeons recommendations, but things that worked for me post op during the liquids stage were: 1) Swanson Bone Broth - 9 grams of protein and it comes in a cup you can heat in the microwave 2) Sugar Free Jello, made from scratch with some Genepro protein stirred in. I put it in 2 oz cups. 3) Later, went to Panera and strained my favorite soup (Corn Chowder) But as others said, try different shakes and like everyone else recommends, try Fairlife. YUM GOOD LUCK!!!

    Can we talk carbs?

My dietician recommended steel cut oatmeal for breakfast, with a splash of milk, cinnamon, Peanut Butter, or a little fruit to jazz it up rather than adding in sugar or syrup. This article discusses some of the benefits: http://healthyeating.sfgate.com/benefits-steel-cut-oats-2053.html Trader Joe's sells frozen steel cut oatmeal that is surprisingly good, and nice for a quick, 1-dish breakfast. Sometimes I'll use a crockpot to make my own batch for the week. I prefer them cold (odd, I know) with some Fair Life milk. You can stir in an unflavored Protein powder like GENEPRO, or even a flavored one that enhances the oatmeal. Definitely avoid the packaged flavored oatmeal, like those by Quaker Oats. As for how many carbs to have in a day, I think it's really individual. I was advised to aim for around 50 grams to 100 per day. I've been successful with rapidly losing weight on low carb diets, but I've never had success at sustaining that weight loss. It's too restrictive for me, and I think it is for many people. The type of carb also matters a lot, of course. I try to get most of mine from fruit, vegetables, oatmeal, and things like crisp bread. Carbs are a good way to get in some fiber.

    Clear protein drink

Genepro is clear, odorless and tasteless. Some GNC carries it or you can get it on line

    Taste Buds

My RNY was Feb 16. The first thing I noticed was how my sense of smell was greatly heightened. I hate it. I can smell ANYONE'S breath within a few yards of me, and it is horrible. It truly and literally churns my stomach and gives me the heaves. My taste buds have changed as well, and Water tastes yucky. I have tried Propel plain with electrolytes, Polar, and am about to try Fiji. I do like Propel Grape for a flavor, but sometimes I want just plain old water. Crystal Light seems too heavy on taste now. I am also having troubles with Protein. I get nauseous still while drinking. I still only have 1 ounce every 15 minutes. My surgeon suggested GENEPRO, which has 30 grams of protein in 1 tbsp. However, every time I've tried mixing it into a drink, I wound up vomiting later.. I'm supposed to be eating applesauce, and blended Soups, but I'm actually scared to try them, since every time I try adding a new item, I get very sick. I know I can't take new things as quickly as my surgeon's handbook says, as far as the food stages. I obviously have to go slower. This is just so nerve-wracking! GENEPRO & Other Must Haves

I put Genepro in my Powerade Zero bottle. Mixes better at room temp though. Take a sip, add powder and shake well. Throw some ice cubes and you have a tasty 30g protein drink
  24. I tried to emulate what I buy at the juice bar in LA Fitness Gym. Didn't work out well. It tasted good, but turned into a drink, more than a shake/smoothie. I need some ideas on how to "fluff" it up or other input. The PB and or cocoa powder powder also ended up "bubbling" at the top even after mixing. Ice also just disappeared as soon as I used the immersion blender on low. My chocolate PB "drink" 2 tbsp choc PB2 1 tbsp Ghirardelli cocoa 1 scoop GENEPRO Protein Powder flavorless (not the think bully whey type powder, this is "miconized" 8oz fat free milk, 3/4 cup ice cubes from machine 1 tbsp pure maple Syrup (too bitter without) 261 cal, 35g carb (28g sugar, 12 from milk) 3g fat, 43g Protein. Less PB2 powder? Less cocoa powder? More ice ratio? Thicker milk (fattier?) Sent from my XT1609 using BariatricPal mobile app
