    Easy protein hack!

I'm only a week post op, but had used GENEPRO during my pre-op and even before that. Its tasteless, mixes well in just about anything I've tried. I know so many who are using it and they are all having good results. "Come off as bro-science d-bags". Why because they are muscle guys? What is your background that you say its not scientific enough.
  2. I make a crustless quiche that I eat everyday. You can change up the flavor profile by what you add. My favorite is bacon, swiss, green onion, roasted red peppers and mushrooms. 5 eggs 1 C cottage cheese Any cheese, veggies, seasoning or meat you want to add. I also add 1 or 2 scoops GENEPRO to up the Protein. Just whip together and pour into a greased pie pan. Bake at 400 F for about 30 - 35 minutes. Makes 6 good size portions.

Can you have too much protein?

As far as I'm concerned GENEPRO isn't really Protein. There are absolutely no third party studies or analyses that support the manufacturer's claims. There are no unbiased studies that indicate pre and post protein serum levels that would quantify the absorption rate and efficiency. No analysis of individual amino acids to indicate whether it is a complete protein or not. Basically They start out with whey protein, but the molecule is then so altered, it is really no longer a protein molecule. They play around a lot with the hydrogen. It doesn't take much to change what something is when you start adding and removing atoms. For example, the oxygen we breath is made of 2 oxygen molecules. Remove one of them, add two hydrogen molecules and you have Water. Add one more hydrogen and you have hydrogen peroxide. Oxygen, water and hydrogen are not interchangeable even though they differ by just 1-2 molecules. Now let's look at this company's other products....."miracle" weight loss and male enhancement supplements. Not a lot of credibility there. You're better off sticking with "real" protein supplements with decades of scientific proof that they are providing proper nutrition. But be careful not to chug down a high Protein shake in too short of time. Our intestines can only absorb 10-20g of whey protein per hour. Other types of protein are absorbed even slower. Any excesses protein is converted to glucose, so you might as well be drinking sugar water.

    Diarrhea, anyone? [emoji51]

I developed severe lactose intolerance after my VSG. I had horrible diarrhea and my heart rate would increase. I tried the lactose pills and they helped a bit, but not nearly enough. I now drink muscle milk and use genepro. I know GENEPRO is controversial and I am probably not getting the Protein that they claim (or equivalency), but I wanted to give it a try and see how it goes for me. Age: 37 Height: 5’6 Starting BMI: 37 VSG: 4/16/18 Starting Weight: 241 Surgery Weight: 229 Current Weight: 213 (17 days post op) GW: 160 MFP: Fit4LifeAR

    ugh to the liquid diet!

Oh, also....I have read a lot of people that use GENEPRO unflavored Protein powder because its 30g protein in a tablespoon.....conflicting opinions on how much protein can fit into a tablespoon.....but that would be less shake drinking and still a lot of protein. Questions, 7 days until surgery

I have tried many many different Protein drinks...I can say that these are the ones that I like: ATKINS has great drinks and they taste great, MYOPLEX Rich dark chocolate Muscle Milk banana flavored and Gramcracker mixed BUT...By far the best one for me is GENEPROunflavored. I am a coffee drinker so I take my Keurig Cup of coffee and Sweet Cream and add 1 scoop of GENEPRO!!! No taste n change in my coffee. So it is a WIN WIN because I would drink my coffee anyway so it is a plus!! One thing I would say don't buy a whole lot of protein because most people's taste changes after their surgery and lets face it Protein stuff is NOT cheap. I would hate to really know how much money I spent on trying to find one that worked for me!!

    Post op diet

I'm about two days out of surgery, just came home last night. Today I've been able to get down about 40 ounces mixed with 2 tablespoons of GENEPRO medical grade Protein which means I've gotten 60 grams of protein today! I've also been using a timer on my phone set for every 7 minutes or so. My problem hasn't been getting enough Water but drinking too fast. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    Really Struggling Post-Surgery-Need Help!

Like others have said, keep drinking. And if you are able to drink more than eat, maybe try making some smoothies with Protein in them. Have you tried the GENEPRO Protein powder? Its tasteless and can be mixed in anything hot or cold with no lumps or bumps. 30 grams of protein in one tablespoon. It has been a lifesaver for me. As far as your ounces, I wouldn't even worry about that. Really. Just eat what you can as you go here at the beginning. You will be able to eat a little more each week as your tummy heals and you will get more of a regular mealtime routine down. Right now, its about liquids and trying to get in some protein. Good luck on your journey!

    Anyone use protein shots?

Ask your doctor about GENEPRO Protein, I tried a sample from them of their ultra refined powder and mixed it in with everything from hot tea and coffee to Peanut Butter and cream cheese on a cracker. It literally has no taste and doesn't mess with the consistency of things, but I have a hard time buying that its protein content is as high as it claims. I haven't asked my doc about it yet but will see him in late December so if you see yours first, go for it. Try it out too, you can get a little sample pack from them for like 1.50 on amazon it has a lot of great reviews and only one or two not so great.
  11. http://www.betteroats.com/product/oat-fit-maple-brown-sugar/ Very tasty with unflavored Protein powder (I use Genepro).
  12. Syntrax nectar, Isopure, and GENEPRO are my best friends. I just started puréed food yesterday and was able to get most of my Protein from food. For bkfst I made a green strawberry & spinach smoothie with coconut Water and a scoop of Genepro. Each scoop is only a tbsp and 30g protein. You can add it into anything, it's great. A lot of times I add it to unsweetened applesauce. Then for a mid-morning snack I used a Hillshire Snacking pack (grilled chicken bites) and puréed the chicken with the honey mustard dipping sauce. Each pack is 15g protein and 120 cal. It was delicious. lunch was a pack of lemon pepper tuna mixed with a couple tsp mayo, puréed. That was only about 123 cal and 18g protein. And dinner I puréed some grilled chicken and hummus, with a couple of pitted kalamata olives thrown in. That was about 200 cal and 20g protein. In between all of that I drink as much water or Syntrax Nectar (if I need protein) as I can. Some days I don't hit 64 oz but I try to get as close as possible. Syntrax makes it easier to hit liquid and protein simultaneously. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  13. Genepro is good. It is almost tasteless and 1tbsp is 30 grams of protein.

    Unflavored protein powder

I was asking about GENEPRO on here. Is there any taste? Does it mix well? I have a few varieties of Syntrax powders and they just don't seem to get smooth, no matter what temp I use. Right now I am using premier Protein ready to drink shakes. I don't do so well with protein and need/want something that completely disappears(or as much as possible). Thanks! There is a small taste as nothing is truly tasteless but it can be hidden. It mixes very well under 140 degrees.

    Question from a pre-op

Some things i bought and tolerated prior to surgery i couldnt stomach after. I have purchased multiple protein powders i couldnt stand as well as broth that i couldnt get down. I just purchased a tasteless protein powder that mixes well and you only need 1tbs to get in 30g. Genepro from amazon.
  16. @@SleevedNFree I work from home and can hop on this site whenever I see someone has posted, so this is probably the best way to reach me. Also, DO NOT worry about Tijuana. I arrived a full day before my surgery and had the chance to wander around. It is a cool town! I never once felt threatened or unsafe. Cabs and buses abound, lots of english speaking folks, everyone is very friendly. My husband was able to sample a new restaurant every evening, the guys at the Marriott were great about references. He bought lights for our home, lots of souvenirs, and wandered around the Walmart with is between the hospital and the hotel. He said everyone was great! Today is 1 week 1 day for me. I am having zero difficulty drinking my 64 ounces. I am adding GENEPRO powder to anything I drink so I am getting plenty of Protein. I had egg drop Soup yesterday and did just fine. I have had a few bites of chicken breast and had zero problems. I have never puked or even felt nauseous. I was so worried that everything about me would change, and so far, except for feeling tired in the afternoons, everything is normal. Except I don't devour every morsel of food I can see! I have not felt hungry even one time!

    Protein powder recommendations?

I just ordered GENEPRO... I haven't really tried anything else, but I've heard it dissolves in almost anything and you can use it in hot or cold foods. I liked that it only takes one TBS for 30 g of Protein compared to some powders using 1/4-1/2C for the same amount of protein. I will test it out and give you the feedback as soon as it arrives! Sheena :-)

    Liquids

I started the liquid diet today. So far I'm doing really well. I had a premiere protein shake(caramel) I added 1 scoop of genepro and topped it off with some coffee. That took me up until a little after 10 a.m. I started at 8:30 a.m. I'm not hungry but I have some Gatorade2 lime that I've been sipping on. I have some jello for lunch. I'm not supposed to start the diet until next Wednesday on the 22nd. However, I want to start early so that I can get the most out of my sleeve. Surgery is on March 1st. 19. The only "studies" are ones they have done themselves. I have found no third party confirmation of their claims. If you want to use GENEPRO, I would advise counting it as 15 grams of Protein toward your daily total instead of the claimed 30 grams. Logically, it's not physically possible to fit 30 grams into 15 grams. Grams are a measure of mass. The claim is that their specific formula of protein is absorbed and utilized by the body at a much higher rate than "normal" protein supplements, thus you allegedly get the BENEFIT of twice as much protein in half the mass. But again, there are no independent studies to prove their claims at this point. So you would be totally taking it on faith and running the risk of only getting half as much protein as you think you are. That's why I recommend counting it as just the actual and real 15 grams of protein. If you are getting the "benefit" of more protein because of their special process, then great, but at least you can be sure you are still getting your minimums in by counting it as only 15 grams.

    Opinions in Genepro protein powder?

I love Genepro! My nut said it was ok. I use it along with another vanilla protein and skim milk and a little ice with some sugar free banana pudding and make a shake in the morning. With all of that it tastes great. And it has 59 grams of protein. It is great. Genepro can be added easily to anything, it's only about a tablespoon for 30 grams of protein instead of those huge scoops. It's been great! The other protein mix which is vanilla is unjury.

    Opinions in Genepro protein powder?

Love Genepro! It is medical grade protein. Although it has special instructions so it will dissolve, the serving of 30grams of protein in a tablespoon can't be beat. You can half it to make it last longer. I mix with yogurt, tea, coffee, oatmeal, diet hot chocolate, yams.. I have not tried to mix with cold liquids since with warm you have to make sure to pour over the powder or it just floats to the top and doesn't dissolve. Best price on Amazon $32-$37. I also have Premier shakes from Costco for a quicker option.

    Opinions in Genepro protein powder?

I use it. I mix it with my coffee. I love the fact it dissolves easily and has very little taste. I'm going to get some celery, carrots and apples and use my Vitamix high speed blender to start juicing. I can add the GENEPRO and get Protein in the mix. I find it too hard to get my vegetables and fruit in since I eat protein first. I use the Genepro to get to my daily requirement of protein. I order it on Amazon. Blessings, Kathleen
  23. I'm three months out and still struggle to get enough Protein and drink enough fluids. Before my surgery I could drink 7 or 8 bottles of Water in a day. Now I force myself to drink one. I have found out I can drink decaf coffee, sugar free hot chocolate, tomato juice, etc better than water. I found a product available at Walmart, Meijer, & Amazon called New whey. It has 42g of protein in only 3.8oz of liquid. I like the fruit punch flavor. It's much easier to get less than 4oz down than 12oz. It is kind of expensive at $14.99 for 6. My doctor just recommended a product called GENEPRO available on Amazon. One tablespoon is 30 grams of protein and it is unflavored. He says mix it with a drink or oatmeal or Soup and I will never taste it. It gets very good reviews. I'm going to try it. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

@@TanishaP The only way I get my Protein is with an unflavored Protein Powder as @@blizair09 suggested. If you don't do that - you'll probably have to supplement with shakes still (which is something I couldn't stand anymore). I bought GENEPRO and it is really good - I've added it to butternut squash and sugar free pudding and you can't even tell it's in there.
