I was banded Mar/07 at TLBC.. They will no longer see me as a patient. They told me Slimband went bankrupt & Dr. Yau has left. I need a fill & feel left out in the cold. What are other people doing? -
Lap-Band adjustment Doctor in Toronto FOUND!
bellacatgirl replied to RoseIvy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Don't be fooled. He works at Slimband. See below. I find it really sketchy that when I call Slimband and ask where I can go to get a fill (because they will no longer support me) they say go to Hazati at the GreenStone Health Clinic. So Slimband won't treat me and give me fills and defills but one of their doctor's will?!?!?!? To me, it seems that not only is Slimband not honouring our agreement for a lifelong support system but one of their surgeons is taking even more of our money for fills. Ali Hazrati MD, MSc, FRCSC's Experience Medical Director, Staff Bariatric Surgeon Slimband Privately Held; 51-200 employees; Health, Wellness and Fitness industry January 2013 – Present (1 year 4 months) Toronto, Canada Area Minimally Invasive General & Bariatric Surgeon The Scarborough Hospital & Slimband Clinic Nonprofit; 1001-5000 employees; Hospital & Health Care industry 2011 – Present (3 years) -
looking for people banded with TLBC (now Slimband) our contracts now null and void

RoseIvy! That's GREAT news. hmmmmm something seem very fishy. This doctor is also the NEW Medical Director, Staff Bariatric Surgeon at Slimband.. So if I understand this correctly they have set up adjustments through the surgeon at his clinic for $120 however if you want an adjustment at the clinic it will cost you $200. He also works at the Scarborough Hospital as surgeon Dr. Yau. I wonder if he would sign your consent form so you could go have your adjustments done by Sabrina at half the cost. -

I am confused. This is what I received from Slimband a couple of months ago "Slimband is pleased to introduce our new Medical Director, Dr. Ali Hazrati" If he is the New Medical Director at Slimband WHY is he doing fills at his private clinic and charging patients? -
Lap-Band adjustment Doctor in Toronto FOUND!

Wow that is great news for all those abandoned by Slimband! Although, I am not having problems (not with Slimband), glad to know there is some help out there! Thanks for the post! -
I heard the same and called them to make an appointment with Dr. Yau and they said he wasn't with Slim Band and to call his office. I have been trying to call his office since mid February and have been getting the answering machine. So frustrated with this situation and their constant lying. The fellow who answered Slim Band's phone actually laughed when I asked about Dr. Yau and gave me very confusing information and he transferred me to someone else to speak to. She couldn't wait to get me off the phone. I hope that potential patients read this. I had originally met with Dr. Coburn and decided to go with TLBC because of the facility and its location. BIG MISTAKE!!!! They can't treat us like this! Slimband is not a pro patient clinic.

Ghost surgeons are real. Some surgeons allow other surgeons to sit in on their surgery as advisors or even to do difficult technical procedures. The primary surgeon is held accountable for any mishaps. Yau could be working for any of the particpants such as Slimband, the primary surgeon or even the hospital as a contract surgeon case by case. Anyway, that's how it works here in the States? May be different up North?

I have heard from a few very reliable sources that Yau never left Slimband. He was in the OR last Monday. They are not being truthful to his patents when they tell them he is no longer associated with Slimband. I wonder why?
-
I have received unsettling news that I know will upset quite a few of you. Yau is back doing surgeries at Slimband but they are trying t keep it a secret. Since Dr. Yau resigned from his position at Slimband in February of this year, his patients (including those banded under TLBC) have been told that Slimband is no longer treating them because Yau no longer works there. I called Slimband Patient Support last week and asked the following: Is Dr. Yau still working at Slimband? – the answer was no. Does Dr. Yau still work, in any capacity, out of the Prince Arthur medical clinic? – the answer was no. Are Dr. Yau’s patients, including those banded under TLBC, being supported/treated by Slimband? – the answer was no because “Dr. Yau no longer works at Slimband.” The truth is, Yau performed at least one surgery at Slimband (Prince Arthur) on Monday April 7th 2014. This information was voluntarily given to me via staff members that currently work at Slimband. Be aware that Slimband will do anything to deny he is back working there, including taking his name off his parking spot. So why did he resign when he clearly still continues to work there? Well we can’t be sure but it very likely has to do with the fact that if Yau appeared not to be working at Slimband then they would be able to stop treating his patients, including those banded under TLBC who were guaranteed a lifelong support system without additional cost. We seriously need to do something about this. There is a lawsuit underway for those banded under TLBC because our agreement of a lifelong support system is not being honoured. If you are in this situation please email 2014takeaction@gmail.com. My worry is that other Slimband patients banded under Yau are also not being supported because “Yau no longer works at Slimband.” This is a lie because he is working there. You need to do whatever you can to make others aware of this. Slimband continues to lie and this type of unprofessionalism needs to stop before others sign-up with them only to be disappointed or put in danger as a result of being refused treatment in the future.

I was banded by Slimband. I've had a feeling that things weren't going well at 'head office' but wasn't sure. I anxiously await your post...
-
Right now I can't go to SlimBand even if I wanted to. On April 8, 2014 I was told I can't get any service from them because I am a patient of Dr. Yau and he resigned. As far as I can remember my contract wasn't with the doctor but with the company and it is not my fault it changed its name (that was an excuse a month ago). Disaster! I don't know where this is going! They are forgetting that their business depends on people and they are pushing people away! This is senseless management!

Hello all, Now I can't give any details just yet, as myself and many others are in the process of a class action lawsuit, but if you are reading this and are thinking about getting a lapband through Slimband please don't do it. Please look into other places because there are others. When I can share more information about the concerns about Slimband I found out today, I will post again. I know it might be frustrating that I'm not sharing specifics but for right now, I needed to get the word out that those who are thinking about get banded with Slimband, please don't. And if you have a surgery planned with them, I think you should cancel and go somewhere else. Again, when I am able to share this information, I will.

Former SlimBand patients looking for a fill adjustment nurse in Toronto
RoseIvy replied to RoseIvy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Exactly! The trick is, when I had a surgery it was called 'LapBand' and now it is called 'SLimBand' plus my surgeon resigned. They don't want to talk to me! -
Yes, unfortunately I was banded at SlimBand. I wish Smatshape existed back in 2004, they seem to be nice. Slimband post op is non existent!

Have you called Smartshape...they do Allergan, but should be skilled enough to fill a Vanguard band. Maybe for a fee, they may help the stranded Slimband paitients????? They are in Mississauga. Can't hurt to try.

looking for people banded with TLBC (now Slimband) our contracts now null and void
RoseIvy replied to tboyd's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
It is impossible to get a fill in Toronto. Slimband told me that Dr. Yau resigned, therefore they are no longer obliged to 'take care of me'. NO FILLS FOR ME!!! I am getting seriously fat! PLEASE HELP!!!! -
Hello. I have been receiving more and more emails regarding the recent decision of Slimband to no longer support TLBC patients who had been receiving care up until this past December (2013). Slimband now says that they will not honour the lifetime long agreement that we were told we would have. That means if you want a fill then you are paying for $200 for it but only after you get a referral from your GP and have documented what you eat with a 2 Week Photo food Log. After Dr. Yau "resigned" from Slimband the other month, Slimband is now not treating any of his TLBC patients even if they pay. So if you were banded by TLBC you are being left out in the cold. Slimband said they would pass along information as to where I could go and get a fill but they never sent me the information. The support staff have been nothing but rude when myself and others have called so be aware that if you call they will treat you the same and will send you away. The good news is that I have been working on a lawsuit class action case. I have posted on this forum and had little hope that I would find anyone in the same situation I have found myself BUT I was wrong. There are many of us who want to take action against Slimband and this decision. I want to also make those who have had success aware of this because if anything happens in the future (i.e. infection) you won't get assistance from Slimband). If you want more information on any of this, please email me at 2014takeaction@gmail.com Thanks

Former SlimBand patients looking for a fill adjustment nurse in Toronto
RoseIvy posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am looking for a place in Toronto (GTA) where I can get a fill adjustment. Some clinics are asking $5.00.00 just for registration with them! Supposedly that's how much they need 'to take care of me'!!! Is there a place where you can go and get a fill like in the old times?- 8 replies

Hi all, I'm considering having a gastric bypass. I currently have the band but it has done nothing for me and Slimband has been the worst to deal with. I'm currently on the Bariatic Registry List in Ontario and have my first consultation in June. I'm just looking for some advice from those who have been through it. It really scares me because I've heard the nightmares of people dying. The recovery I can deal with. I've had 4 surgeries with Slimband re: complications. I want to hear from everyone, the good, bad and ugly. I'm also worried about the access skin after weight loss.

Hi, I am from Canada too although I did not go to Slimband. I had my surgery in September and have had 5 fills so far! Why have you only had one? The general rule is once every four weeks - no sooner (at least with my office). My band was completely emptied after surgery due to complications. So I started from zero. Dont feel bad about the slow weightloss, it is not your fault! You need to get into the green zone and until then it will be hard to lose weight. Look at my stats below, nothing to brag about for sure!! I am eating about a third of what I used to eat and still not budging. I am still working on getting to that elusive green zone. I am getting discouraged, but this is for life so I hope it will work for me!! There was another girl here who has been complaining about Slimband since the Dr.Yau issue and not returning her calls. Hope you are doing OK and get somewhere with them! They have to do something, they cant leave all of their clients hanging!!

Red Bird I am so sorry to hear about your aftercare. I would continue to try to contact the slimBand group and insist on someone responding to you. Not sure what the Dr. Yau issue is, but that shouldn't allow them to treat a paying patient the lack of care that is needed after surgery. You hang in there and vent whenever you like. I am apparently very lucky with my surgeons office they are great people. I have only had my band since 1/16/14 and have one fill of 2 cc's...but am looking forward to my next visit-since I am sure 2 cc's is not enough for me. So I will be on the lookout for a follow-up post saying they finally got you in and are helping you. Take care and prayers!!!
