September Sleevers Progress Updates?
gower05 replied to Sunshine30's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was sleeved September 27th. Down 40 lbs as of today. I am just starting to lose again after a 3 week stall.....finally!!!! -
^^ you were sleeved in march and are on a 3 week stall? The best thing anyone in a stall can do is go back to logging what you eat, drink and what kind/duration of exercise you are getting. Applying discipline is going to be crucial to getting past stalls. 3 weeks is a long stall, motivate yourself. Cut salt, up protien a s work out!! Not just cardio, wieght train as allowed.

Be patient...this works! Everyone appears to go through the 3 week stall. I stalled then for almost 2 weeks...I was SO pissed! Then I stalled again around 3 months...but miraculously I dropped a whole pants size that time. I haven't been losing super fast, but I've lost almost as much as my husband, who had bypass nearly 3 months before I had my sleeve done. My doctor always says...this is a marathon - not a sprint.

It's happened. Totally expected it. The question is, is it a 3 week stall or a 2 week stall. Surgery last Tuesday, 9/29. But does the 1 week liquid pre-op count as week 1 making this week 3 or does the count actually begin after surgery. The stall corresponded with the move from Clear liquids to full liquids. Still doing great though. Yesterday was 650 calories, 60 grams of Protein and 80 oz Water. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Hi Everyone I've been doing some great reading around the forum of people's issues with stalls, in particular, the dreaded 3 week stall. I'm now 4wks post op today, have healed really well and in all ways feel great.... BUT I've been stalled the last two weeks with my weight loss. It's gone up and down by 1kg in the past two weeks (sorry folks, I'm in Aus and we're metric, so don't know the imperial conversion!!). Anyways, I'm consuming approximately 800 calories a day and I'm doing 2-3km walks everyday to every second day. After reading a number of posts by the veterans, who have mentioned increasing calorie content and Water, I'm curious if that could work for me - given I'm already at the ideal calorie intake & doing really well getting my water in. I'm using an app on my phone to record what I'm eating so it tells me how many kj's, how much Protein, fat, sugar, carbs etc are in. As of yesterday, I've finally managed to get to 60grms of protein, but my carbs are 66grms. Which seems to mostly come from having a glass of milk, which my dietician suggested I take to get in protein. As I'm quite terrified the stall is permanent (despite reading comments that it does start again - I don't have much faith it will!!), I'm wondering what the next step is. If I'm in starvation mode but increase my calories, is that going to bugger things up making the body thing "woo hoo!! Foood!!!!" and then gain weight because I've given it more calories?? And on days that I exercise, should I also increase calorie content?? It's almost like a maths equation or a science project! I did ask my surgeon last week, but his only comment was "weight is hard to lose". Which I'm sure most of you would agree with my response of "no shit sherlock"!! (I didn't actually say that to him, but I'm sure he read it on my face!!!). I know I'm probably being an eager beaver. And I'm also committing the cardinal sin of comparing my progress against a friend who had it done in June and I know week for week, she's progressed better than I have, so am having feelings of failing at this. Sorry for the 20 questions folks. I'm just really keen to kick this stall to the curb and get with the losing of weight again. I'm just so bummed it's not changing!!! Cheers RozzieJ

Dear 3 Week Stall.... I am not amused!
a.walker posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok, so I have weighed the same for 10 days. I'm 4 weeks out, and of course I'm starting to worry. I log my food, I get my Protein, I am getting 500-700 calories a day, and I'm just frustrated. Tomorrow is my one month surgiversary, so I'll do measurements and maybe that will make me feel better, but right now I'm seriously down about this. I tried putting away the scale, but that gave me anxiety, so now I'm back to weighing once a day in the morning, and the same number just keeps showing up. I HATE 289!:cursing: And of course it's hard not to compare myself to my husband (who got sleeved the same day as me). He had a small stall as well, but now is back to losing 2 lbs./day the past few days. He'll soon weigh less than me at this rate! Do I just keep doing what I'm doing, or is there something I should try to break this? I'm willing to try something new, but I'm not sure what:confused: -
Has Anyone Else Hit The 3rd Week Stall?
former_vbg replied to gfawcetti's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Almost everyone goes through the 3 week stall. It appears to be related to your body moving from the liquids/ mushies to solid foods and your body is adjusting. Just stay on the program and you will break your stall- I promise. Hang in there!! -
Does weight loss usually plateau at some point?
Iowa_summergirl posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Some of my family members think I'm losing too much too fast. I've been pretty fortunate in that the weight has steadily come off (except for the traditional 2-3 week stall). Does the loss eventually pretty much stop or plateau? What do you do if it keeps coming off and you can't keep up with your calorie intake? I'm 3 months out, down 42 lbs, (74 since my highest weight). I struggle with sliming, so some days I don't get a good amount of calories. Other days I do fine. Worrying for nothing?? -
Please note that I am posting in the "RANT" section and avoid this if you don't want to read my tantrum. OK so this surgery sucked royally for me. The pre-op diet was challenging to say the least. (Fat chick trying to muster up enough self control to eat only Protein powders for 2 weeks---give me a break) Then I go for surgery day and my heart stopped beating when they inflated my abdomen. Chest compressions, followed by panic resulted in my surgery being canceled....I was fine with that. A week later we try again....(please note that this required an additional week of the pre-op diet---grrrr.....) and once again--heart refused to cooperate. Took some extra hands and enough drugs to kill a horse, but I was sleeved. Because the surgery ran really long and my heart rate was low, I wasn't given anything for pain after surgery. They brought me to the room in so much pain that I was unable to see. (Seems if you are in enough pain your brain will start to shut down--vision goes first.) After the longest 4 hours of my life we finally got the pain under control.....sleep 2 hours.....then they want me up in a chair. OK. I can tough it out now. However every time they moved me I blacked out. It took forever for them to get me into the chair and I was terrified of blacking out--falling--and injuring myself. Forward a few days--I am out of the hospital and in a lot of pain. Severe sharp shooting pains in my upper chest and left shoulder---plus I can't get fluids down. Back to the hospital I go for tests and fluids. A few days later (9 days post-op) my drain is removed---I pass out and wake up with most of the pain gone. Seems the drain was on a nerve and that was causing the pain. Now I know that this could all be worse. But for the amount of pain--strike that---agony I experienced during those first two weeks after surgery I should have done my fair share of suffering. It still hurts to eat and drink--but I am managing. I can only get in 500 or so calories a day--at the most. Most days it is more like 300. By this past Friday I had lost 18 pounds. Then, I stopped. Now, 5 days later, I have GAINED 4 pounds back. How is that even freaking possible? I know 3 week stall....water weight....liver replacing glycogen..... menstrual Fluid retention...blaugh blaugh blaugh..... I AM PISSED....and rather disheartened. I told people that I was having the surgery done--now I am the go-to person for all those in my world thinking about WLS......but you know what---I AIN'T YA POSTER CHILD. This whole experience has thus far sucked in a big big way. Maybe I will lose and in a few months be glad that I had it done, but right now I refuse to encourage anyone to do it. What I tell them now is that they need to understand that this is a MAJOR surgery and they need to be prepared for complications. I also tell them they need to go to the support group because I haven't been sleeved long enough to be a good resource. That is the most positive I can muster up. I would really like to tell them that, at this point, I am not real thrilled about my choice and am hanging on and hoping for a change in my point of view.

3 weeks out and hungry
Tink22-sleeve replied to tanya811's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was hungry at 3 weeks out also (I still get hungry at 7 months out). I think it is perfectly normal. An acid reducer really does help(I take prilosec). I think alot of us had a "3 week stall. i think thats normal too. Dont fret, my dear. It gets better really fast! -
It is the famous 3 week stall. You have lost 15 pounds in 20 days! That is amazing! I actually gained coming out of the hospital due to the all the fluids (and imagine you did too) so given that, the loss is great! I thought I was a slow loser too and I will be 1 year out this week and down 120 pounds since surgery (145 total including pre-op diet). Those losses add up! Here are some suggestions: 1) Stay off the scale for a week (admittedly, I was never able to do that but just thought I would throw it out there ). Hopefully the stall will be broken in a week and you will see the loss and can decide how you want to weigh going forward. 2) Are you able to eat more than 1 meal per day? Seems that is a little low. If you are able to eat more than once, I would look in to having at least 2 (maybe 3) small meals per day at this stage. Take no longer than 30 minutes to eat. If you are not done with your 4 Tbsp in 30 minutes, put it away and have it at the next meal. Do you need some suggestions for foods other than fish or were you instructed to just have fish? 3) Are you able to drink something other than Optifast for shakes? I think there are some much better options - but it may depend on what your dr instructed and where you are located geographically.

I think I messed up
Sleeved Nurse replied to candiapplered24's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Just like everyone else is saying... There is a phenomenon that happens around the 3rd week... Known as the 3 week stall.... I was on it for 2 weeks! Just keep pushing to get protein and water in and it will start to come off again! It is very discouraging and I know when you are in that spot at the time you feel like a failure but our bodies just need to be able to catch up sometime! I have stalled several times including all of week 3 and 4 and more! But today I am down into a pair of high school jeans and I'm 2 days away from 3 months post op! I have lost a total of 67lbs and as long as the scale keeps going in the right direction I am going to be happy about it! -
No Weight Loss Since Surgery
feedyoureye replied to Anakin Jay's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Some gain a lot of weight from the IVs, My guess is you are holding water weight... make sure you are drinking lots of water, keeping the salt down, and go for protein over carbs. Some low carb juices might be good, celery, cucumber, greens... green tea.... things that get the water moving out of the body. We just can't tell why the body does what it does sometimes... you are doing great, the body is just not ready to let go yet... my 3 week stall (at 2 1/2 weeks) lasted for weeks and then I started to lose again. Do move... tell your body its time to burn some of that fat! Also... measure now if you haven't... you may be losing inches. In fact, I bet you are. Are your pants falling off yet? -
I've read about the 3 week stall and even a 6 month stall. Anyone stuck/been stuck on a 3 month stall? I'm going into the 4th week of this stall with my weight fluctuating up and down 2-4 ounces. No changes in body measurements either. Protein goals and water goals met. Not sure what else I can do other than ride this out. All suggestions welcome!

Yep...I sure would like the weight o come off fast:-(. I was sleeved on 2/6 and down 35 pounds. I went into a crazy 3 week stall that made me think I was some kind of anomaly:-). How can I lose 80 percent of my stomach and still not lose weight!? I'm passed that now. Happy for the weight I've lost and thankful it is still heading in the right direction albeit slow. Took me years to get this big. That's what I keep telling myself. Good luck

Bonofide Stall How Do You Break It?!
Wheetsin replied to 612belly's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
"3 week stall" (which really isn't a stall) is almost something we need to expect... but no one tells us about. Honestly, don't try to break it. It's not really a stall, it's your body trying to adjust. You're seeing what goes in to your body, but you aren't seeing what's happening on the inside. Your body's kind of freaking out right now, trying to survive this famine. Your body doesn't know it's supposed to be eating less, your body just knows how to survive. To it, there's not much food, so it must be starving. Reserve energy "troops" are being mobilized out of bunkers like your liver and into your bloodstream. Your metabolism may have been given the order to lay low and avoid enemy fire. Your body is pulling resources like Fluid away from more well-fed troops and giving it to the ones who aren't doing so hot. All of this fluctuation is behind most things we call "stalls" (it's also behind most unexplainable or quick weight losses/gains). Your body is doing exactly what it should do. Don't have a knee jerk reaction and try to "fix" something, because there's nothing wrong and nothing to fix. If you try to fix, you're just going to throw things off even more. After about 5 or 6 weeks of this, then you can start looking at what you're doing and what you night be able to change, but even then you can do everything right and see no results. It's just a fact of being alive. -
Are stalls real or do we just make excuses ?
*Lexie* replied to AussieSam's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I think the 3 week stall is real and there is a scientific explanation for it out there somewhere. I was doing everything right and didn't lose for 3 weeks. However, any other stall or plateau (pre or post op) have been related to my actions. If I do things right, I lose weight. And I can only speak for myself here. -
blood clots....please help
okalani replied to okalani's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
hopefully all goes well with you pcp...let us know what happens. I meet with my Surgeon on Saturday for my post op. He orginally told me that in the first month he anticipates me to lose 30 pounds.....but so far I have lost 20 pounds at 2 weeks. Will I keep losing weight or will I go through the 3 week stall? Does everyone go through the weight stall? -
Stalls suck green balls. At any time. But most especially the dreaded "3 week stall" that happens any time within weeks 2-6. LOL. I wanted to sacrifice small animals. Cuz I was eating like 4-500 cals and thinking, this is BS!!!! LOL. But I swear it will break. Stay the course. Drink your water, maybe even add in decaf green tea. Walk. Walk. Walk!!!

3 weeks post op only lost 15 lbs ????
Babbs replied to hootney1214's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
When was the last time you lost 15 lbs in 3 weeks? Do me a favor and just STAY OFF THE SCALE for a while and concentrate on your protein and liquids and getting healed up. You are also in the 3 week stall period of time. Your body has to adjust to the fast weight loss and take a little break. Stay the course, stay off the scale, and continue to heal. You're doing just fine -
Hang in there! I am 5 months post op, and just got through a 3 week stall. I Cut my calories back to 750, made sure I'm getting the right amount of everything, and avoiding all bad carbs. I'm managed to lose 12 pounds in the last two weeks! Just mix it up, and hang in there!

Help! how do you break a stall?
Girly24 replied to cutlass6521's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I was sleeved July 10 my highest weight 264 day of surgery 258 and now I'm juggling between 225-229 I'm super depressed that I'm not losing. I'm at a 3 week stall. I don't know what to do -
I know it's normal for your period to be irregular after surgery but seriously?? I'm just about 8 weeks post op and am on my period for the FOURTH time since surgery! Every two weeks I turn around and there she is again! I was on a normal cycle before surgery, am not on any type of birth control and haven't been for quite some time. The most frustrating part is the weight gain randomness... I finally broke a 3 week stall, past the 50 lbs down mark and then BAM I'm up 2-3 lbs again. FRUSTRATED!
-
First of all, the depression is TOTALLY normal right now - your hormones are still all out-of-whack from the surgery and you are adjusting to a radically different lifestyle. Second of all, just work your plan and keep track of everything you eat - as long as you are doing all the right things, you are just in the 3 week stall - it will eventually end and the weight will start coming off again! It happens to everyone at some point in their sleeve journey - keep the faith!

Stalling Sooner Than 3 Weeks...
fits_like_a_sleeve posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So I was completely prepared to deal with the unavoidable 3 week stall... But wasn't prepared that it may come sooner! Stalled out at about 1.5-2 weeks. Anyone else stall sooner than 3 weeks? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
