Any 45+ year old women on here with gastric bypass experience?
learn2cook replied to timmytommy's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hi @timmytommy, I’m 53 , post-menopause, and lost 72 lbs pre-op which was 11 months. Weirdly no weight loss at all during the liquid phase before surgery, no idea why. As soon as I had surgery (RNY) the weight has peeled off. Just 13lbs the first month but I’m elated! I can move so much easier. I compare it to WW when .5 a week was a victory. I know I loose slowly, but I feel like all the tracking, measuring, and exercise NOW makes a difference. -
I was miserable the first two days. Then I used spanx to keep the loose stuff inside still so I wouldn’t feel pulling. I’m four weeks out and still sleep with spanx. I avoided the couch because it was too low and couldn’t get up without pain. I also bought a raised toilet seat to be independent. It was $20 on Carewell.com . Do whatever you need to do to get through it, no shame. You will get through! Talk with your bariatric professionals. They know what’s normal.

WHERE ARE MY AUGUST 2021 PEEPS?
L Boogie21 replied to phenomenally_me's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
August 24th was my date. Just joined as I’m still trying to figure this all out and the discussions seemed to apply to what I’m going through. Food is better this week but still low energy. Hard to track how much protein I’m eating when it’s just a few spoonfuls at a time. Feels like I waste a lot of food but I’ve gotta do what I’ve gotta do. Just wanted to say hello. You’re input/ discussions are valuable to someone like me. Thank you. -
Gastric Bypass scheduled for 9-20!
alau82 replied to alau82's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
WOW! I'm so jealous of you guys who can eat things other than protein shakes. My instructions were 5 shakes a day- 3 premier protein and 2 premier protein with oats and a minimum of 64 ounces of no caffeinated/carbonated/sugar free liquid. I am on day 5 now, and as of this morning I'm down 10.8 pounds. Feeling pretty good now compared to the beginning of the week. -
Who lost a lot before surgery?
ms.sss replied to lizonaplane's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
What @catwoman7 said. I lost 11lbs during the pre-surgery two week liquid diet and nothing else before that. My first month was my biggest loss IN POUNDS by far. But my excess weight loss percentage rate kept increasing as time went on. Good Luck! ❤️ P.S. I just took a look at my records and i suppose the second month was also comparatively high to the remaining months...from month 3 onward though, it was basically 10-ish lbs a month until goal. -
Gastric Bypass scheduled for 9-20!

It's honestly a doddle turning lots of vege dishes into decent pre-op eats. Soups are definitely our friend, and we have a hero veg in cauliflower on the list. I'm going to make cauliflower fried rice tomorrow (cauli rice, brocollini, mushrooms, scallions, light soy sauce, dark soy sauce, a drop of sesame oil and maybe a little sriracha for heat). A delicious veg stew can be made out of onion, garlic, squash, spinach (stems and leaves), celery, sweet paprika, smokey paprika, ground coriander, cumin, ground chili, saffron (good pinch is essential), a good stock, crushed tomatoes. It's hearty and fills you up without feeling punitive. Thai salads is a great idea! Same with curry (tomato based). With all herbs and spices allowed, it's actually pretty easy. And only two weeks. -
Who lost a lot before surgery?
catwoman7 replied to lizonaplane's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I lost 57 lbs before surgery (I think about 15 of that was on the two-week pre-op diet, though - so 42 lbs before the pre-op diet). you'll likely lose on the low side the first month after surgery, since for most people, a lot of that huge drop the first month is water weight, and your water weight is long gone. Mine was, too. I lost 16 lbs the first month. after the first month, I don't think it makes a difference if you lost weight pre-surgery or not. surgeons usually quote you the average weight loss (60-70% of your excess weight), because statistically, that's where most people end up. But a statistic is a statistic - there are always people who are going to lose more or less than that. If you really work at it, you can do better than that. I almost never went off my plan and lost 100% of my excess weight. -
Update On Me (Surgery: 5/19/21)
lizonaplane replied to SummerTimeGirl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
It's totally normal to have stalls and even bumps up a few pounds in any weight loss journey. Just follow your plan, drink your fluid, etc. Look at the trends over time, not just in one week or a few weeks. -

Hey all! Bit of advice, or just someone to confirm and ease my mind! So my overall target weight to loose was 5 and a half stone to get to my target weight. A healthy weight in the middle of my ideal BMI. 8 weeks post op I am roughly half way through reaching this target with a 2 and half stone lost. however I feel this is slowing down… I still can’t eat much so I’m not eating loads more or anything… I’m trying to keep my water intake up.. im crap at sticking to exercise plans - But trying to walk and move more in terms of housework etc. do you think it will continue again? Im having a doubting moment…. 😢☹️ Or do I need to sharpen up and get my self exercised …. I think I know the answers just probably need someone to tell me as well… em x -

3 weeks post-revision and terrified
learn2cook replied to LG202108's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Congratulations on your revision! I’m 4 weeks out from RNY. I was getting dizzy and tired during my long days at work. I found eating more often helped a lot. My sweet spot seems to be 70-90 grams protein and 700-900 calories. My job is so active that I just exercise 15 minutes right now, and that’s only because I feel ready. You may find a different sweet spot for yourself. Be patient and keep trying to find what works for you. Now, if I could get “regular “ again… -
Collagen Peptides
ShoppGirl replied to Sleeve_Me_Alone's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I recommend just not counting it for now but at some point (for me it was my three month checkup) they should check your labs and protein is one they check. I took it for a while and didn’t count it and it wasn’t like I was getting too much protein. At that point you will know how your body is absorbing it and you can adjust from there. -
Update On Me (Surgery: 5/19/21)
SummerTimeGirl replied to SummerTimeGirl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
UPDATE: So today I got some blood work done that my gp requested. He had me do a CBC, Basic Metabolic, Triglyceride, LDL and A1C tests. Everything came came back good and/or improved but for a few......... LDL: On 3/11 it was - 151 Today, 9/9, it was - 135 Triglycerides: On 3/11 it was - 322 Today, 9/9, it was - 141 A1C: On 3/11 it was - 6.7 Today, 9/9, it was - 5.8 And my iron shows as low. Lower than in March and May when they checked it but I'll wait til I see him next week to talk about this. Otherwise I am soooooo close to having everything back in the NORMAL range!!! In November I'll have more blood work done for all the vitamins and stuff the surgeon is requesting. On other note, not sure why but for the last week or two I have stalled again. And in fact my weight has gone up 3 lbs from my lowest (my lowest was 253.4 on Aug 28th and has now been staying around 256/257). Not sure why. Nothing has been different but for me regularly walking on the treadmill (30 min a day, for two weeks now) and I have started to incorporate an upper body, full body and lower body routine (Mon, Wed, Fri) and the upper body part has me using weights (started this week). Otherwise, eating the same, bathroom has been the same, etc. I am due for my period in the next 8-12 days. So maybe that? I don't know. -
Regarding the pain - walking helped me immensely. I had pain for two reasons - the gas pain from the air they fill the body with during surgery and pain/pressure whenever I ate or drank anything. The thing that helped me the most was pacing up and down the hallway. To this day I still do that if I'm feeling any discomfort at all. I had the best luck sleeping on my back, but elevated and with my legs elevated. I was so thankful that my best friend had the surgery years ago and knew exactly what I was going to go through. She has one of those adjustable beds and offered for me to recover at her house. The bed was just what I needed to sleep well. I stayed for almost a week, but learned to still elevate myself and my knees when i went home. I just had to use pillows. This also made it easier to get up without straining. I couldn't tolerate being on my side or my stomach. It was a few weeks before I went to my side, and I still used some pillows to help lower pressure points.

When can I go to in person class?
FutureSkyDiver replied to elp93's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I encourage you to think about all the things associated with attending class in person, it isn't just the sitting in the car and classroom. There is walking from the car to the classroom, which in my experience with universities (25 years, 5 different universities), can be quite a distance for students. Can you walk that far right after surgery? Can you carry whatever materials you need for class? I had a 5lb restriction for 6 weeks and my briefcase weighs more than that (by a lot!) with my computer, notebook, and occasionally a book or 12. I don't know what your academic program is, or how you take notes, but whatever you need during class, you need to consider if you can carry it within your own restrictions. Can you be present without being a distraction to the instructor or other students? Can you focus on the material? In the immediate aftermath of surgery, I had to spend A LOT of time just focusing on getting liquids in, including the use of a 30ml cup to poor tiny "shots" of water that I would then drink over the course of 15 minutes--4oz each hour. It takes a lot of mental energy to focus on hydration like that. Can you pay attention to class AND not get dehydrated AND not distract others from their learning experience? Only you can answer these questions for you, but for me, it was about three weeks after surgery before I felt up to even working (I'm a professor) in my home office, and even then it was only for a couple of hours a day. Good luck with your program. -
Hi, welcome to the best information. My surgery is November 10th. I have a 3 week pre op diet to do beforehand

WHERE ARE MY AUGUST 2021 PEEPS?
codevsg replied to phenomenally_me's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Not sure exactly, but my doctor says you can’t worry about wait loss in the first 6 weeks since your body is still healing. I lost 10the first week and then just stalled for two weeks after. I also head some things about too much exercise too soon isn’t good since it could slow down the metabolism and make you more hungry. Not sure on this stuff so you probably want to check back with your doctors or due some more research. I’m just saying I don’t think it is anything to worry about and give yourself time to heal. -
WHERE ARE MY AUGUST 2021 PEEPS?
Momma4xs replied to phenomenally_me's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I don’t know if I’m posting this in the correct spot. Surgery aug 16th I’ve lost only 7lbs in almost 4 weeks. Preop diet I lost 14 lbs in 3 weeks. I’m following diet to the letter. I’m walking 30 min almost every day. Has this happened to anyone else. I’m starting to worry that it didn’t work… surgeon says it’s fine. Only problem is I can’t seem to get all the water in consistently. Could that be it? -

Hi, I am so sorry to hear that you are having a difficult start to your recovery due to Ida. Hoping you & your loved ones are all ok. I found this website with a meal plan that looks similar to mine as well as many others I have seen online. The link below will tell you more about what to eat during the different phases. You can also do searches for other examples. Most advise 64 ounces of liquids & protein daily, but that goal may be hard to reach those first few weeks. We're you given vitamin recommendations? Those are also part of the follow-up plan. Wishing you well with your recovery from surgery & Ida. OBESITY COVERAGE MEAL PLAN https://www.obesitycoverage.com/the-big-gastric-bypass-diet-guide/#week 1
