    Compression

Honestly, for shirts... whatever is cheap. Because you'll need smaller sizes rather quickly. There are a quite a few on Amazon that are all really good and rather inexpensive. Brand name really doesn't matter right now, it's not like you are going to have the shirt for years... The Superman Compression shirt in my avatar, cost me $19.

    June RNY buddies?

Congrats to you! I feel okay but I’m honestly starting to feel like I had surgery for no reason. Still not losing 19 days post op. I lost the 10 lbs of water but I am only 5 lbs down from my actual preop weight so I’m just frustrated. I have lost more 7 months preop than I have post op. So I’m just trying to stay encouraged. Again, I feel okay but my measurements are awful and the scale isn’t budging and I’m ready to just rip my hair out. Glad everyone else is doing well and not going through whatever my body is doing

Cash prices in the US for Bypass

My cardiologist was covered by my insurance ($10 copay), my psych eval was $150. My insurance sucks when it comes to mental health. But yeah, they're happy to get you in and not have to deal with the insurance company!

    Weight Loss Family Reunion

I was joking... I have not had the chance to visit Rhode Island yet. I did live in upstate New York for about 10 months in 1986 & 1987 when I was in the Navy. I loved to ride my motorcycle to visit my friend in Brandon, VT. That winter was very snowy - I lived in Ballston Spa, NY.
  5. So I had my surgery last Wednesday (7/10/18). I've been able to keep everything down and I'm not nauseous but when ever I drink just the littlest bit of something the top of my stomach hurts and it feels stuck in my chest. Does anybody else have this problemand if so do you have solutions? I'm going to the doctors Thursday but my doctor doesn't have the best bed side manners so I thought I might just check here first. 6. I went to my 5 hour class on July 12. They scheduled my appointment to meet with my surgeon and go over goals. Staff said start your plan now so you could show your ready. I started my new life style July 16. My appointment is August 29. I plan to have 10-15lbs off by then. The process is 4-6 months. I'm excited and nervous. Starting weight 245. I'm 5'5. I'm from California. I'm getting mine done at Richmond Kaiser. Anyone else? Sent from my Pixel 2 using BariatricPal mobile app
  7. Best of luck to you @insta_adventurer Don't let your nerves get the best of you. It will be the fine. There will be pain after so don't wait to ask for pain meds. I waited because I was sleeping/out of it after and then suddenly it hit me and I wanted to strangle the nurse for taking 1 minute and 30 seconds to get to me and get them into my IV. (Not sure how long it took, but I swear it was at least 10 minutes). Take your time there is no need to rush the walking. I waited until the day after surgery late in the day to walk the halls. I did walk from the bed to the rest room but that was hard enough the 1st few hours. GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!

    Telling the Family

You're too sweet for asking how it went! So my mom and my little sister already knew right? My oldest sister had a smartass remark, but that is typical of her so I am not surprised. What I was suprised at was my second oldest sister didn't say a word; not one word. The third one was happy for me and supports my decision like my mom and baby sister. The sister that is just older than me has a snarky remark talking about "If I got rid of carbonation and carbs I'd lose weight too.....and that wouldn't require surgery" I just swallowed my words and told her that I have tried that for years now. I gave up carbonation and didn't see a pound go which is very strange since a lot of people see like a 10 pound loss in a month when they give up soda. I have limited my carbs and typically only eat the healthy carbs (brown rice, baked sweet potatoes, etc) so by her saying that it just rubbed me the wrong way. She too is no athlete so I just had to brush it off. Overall I feel like I got a good response. The ones that made crude comments will just have to watch my progression. Thanks again for asking!
  10. :P:P:P Lunch time was my yummy dinner from last night. I made homemade turkey chili. I know, it's the middle of summer but I wanted something hardy and that was perfect with some sliced avocado & a tad of shredded Mexican cheese. YUM! I found the recipe that was titled "the best turkey chili recipe you will ever eat" and in fact, it was!

My shake this afternoon is the Syntrax Nectar Kiwi Strawberry with a banana. I brought in my magic bullet blender to work since it's light and portable. I used water this time instead of the almond milk. Sipping it now at my desk, it's pretty good. I'd give this one a 5! The banana takes over and taste just like strawberry banana shake. Yum!

Not quite sure what I am planning on tonight for dinner but since I had my main meal for lunch, it will consist of a dinner shake and a p.m. snack after (protein based of course- probably 2 hard boiled eggs.

^_^ 10 more days until surgery... I really hope my liver is teeny tiny from all of this!

  11. I am scheduled for Sept 10 for the GERD. I have had my sleeve for the past six years I’ve had nothing but complications. I didn’t experience the GERD till six months after the sleeve is done but they didn’t diagnose the gERD till almost 3 years later. I’ve been on three different PPIs, Bought a $7000 bed to elevate me while I sleep, and have to take another medication four times a day just to give me a little relief. For the past three years been trying to get a Stretta procedure approved. Each time getting denied. This year my insurance finally started covering Stretta but because of the insurance they wanted pic. The ESG showed I had a hiatal hernia and polyps. So now I’m going to be having A gastric sleeve to Roux en Y revision.

    July surgery

My doctor requires a liquid diet for 2 weeks and I notice a lot of variations with the pre surgical diet.. I have to say 12 days no sugar is a blessing for me... I diet not stick truly to the liquid diet when I felt I was going to pass out!!! I did eat my 4 ounce low fat cottage cheese, some egg whites, egg drop soup, and liquid grits.. my mother had roux n y 10 years ago and is very successful and didn’t have to go thru the liquid diet... only a 3 day liquid diet... I have to say it has prepped me for Wednesday and the next 2 weeks for liquids only.. I’m looking forward to full liquids.. the crazy thing is that I’m not craving sweets... I want a piece of chicken 🍗 , a cheese stick, a boiled egg 🥚 🤣🤣🤣🤣

    Hubby loosing interest?

That seems reasonable. Lot of changes going on....having a little time to get his head around them seems fair. In the mean time, try to reconnect with what brought you close in the past. Maybe a weekend trip to an old haunt, time for just the two of you, take the focus off the awkward, and put it on something that is easy for both of you. Maybe indulge one of his interests and see if he loosens up. If I take my husband to anyplace with airplanes or NASA crap...he's like a kid and it scratches that particular "she cares about me" itch. We used to go out on a boat fishing and take a picnic and read to each other. Reconnect to less stressful days....might help. And if thing are still in the crapper in 2019...hold him to his word and go talk to someone. Best wishes!

    Surgery Tomorrow

I’m here in the waiting room!!!! I’m scheduled at 10:00 AM!!! I’m getting very excited to start my new life!
  15. I am schedule for a Sleeve to RNY on Sept 10 for GERD. During my consultation with my surgeon who did my sleeve, he stated that I have polyps. Because of that he going to remove the stomach and the pylorus. Reasoning there is no way for them to monitor post surgery. Has anyone else has to have the stomach removed because of the polyps?

    November sleevers here

10 pounds to goal...#vanitypounds haha. Progress Sunday! Thinking of going to buy my first crop top tomorrow as a birthday present 🎁😏 hope everyone else is still kicking butt!
  17. Congratulations on your amazing success!!! That’s so fantastic and you must feel amazing 😁 this is also so encouraging for me to hear and gives me much hope, as I am currently at about 330 lbs and am only 5’4” so have a lot of weight to lose! I have repeatedly tried and lost lots of weight but continually regain plus some, so am seeing no hope of improvement without surgery. I am currently on saxenda (daily injections) to help with appetite suppressing but it has done nothing but make me nauseated. So, surgery is really what needs to happen, just pretty anxious as it’s a big surgery and significant decision. I have been struggling with my weight since the age of 10 and I just turned 35, so I am really ready and need a significant change. My weight has been ruling my life and decisions for far too long. Thanks everyone for sharing your stories and success with your surgery. This very comforting!!
  18. Glad you are home and feeling better. I am so squeamish about needles but I did 7 days worth of Lovenox injections (one shot every morning). The time will pass kind of quick with it even though it’s annoying. And I gained 10 lbs of water weight post op. It took me 8 days to get rid of it. It will come off with time and probably a good amount of walking. Wishing you all of the best and a speedy recovery!
  19. Ape lifespan..... 35-50 years. Often die of cancers related to old age. Lion lifespan.... 10-14 years. Often die of end stage kidney disease. Carnivorous mammals don't live very long. Atkins post mortem exam showed he'd had heart attacks and coronary artery disease. he was also either obese, or retaining 20+ pounds of water when he died...(the later would indicate kidney failure.)

    Cheez its, my little snack

It’s all good. My cheezits aren’t your cheezits. Most of what I say on here is always aimed at the silent majority who read but don’t post. I like to open their eyes to alternate views and ways to see things and adjust their lives. I can’t have cheezits in the House. Doesn’t make me less loving. And someone out there may really feel they NEED to get their partner cheezits to show they care and I’m saying they don’t. It’s not aimed at you per se. Yup my hubby works 10 hour days in a power plant at a physically demanding job. So I get it.

    Fajas/shapewear/corsets

Funny story! I bought a full body piece from Lane Bryant. I wore it for the first time and didn’t realize at first it is “crotchless” as I like to call it. Needless to say, I wore a dress that day and there was a breeze. It was convenient to use the restroom . 😂😂 I’ve tried different brands but I buy briefs from Walmart and love them. They are more expensive than regular underwear but cheaper than name brands. About $10-$13 per pair. They are “Cupid” brand and make different styles. They wash really well, I wash and rewear the same 3 pairs all the time. I don’t go without shape wear unless I’m going to bed. It almost feels naked to go without now.
  22. I am still pre op and picking up items here and there to try. I will be seeing my nutritionist again once I'm approved and can/will ask her as well. I'm curious as to whether a certain soup I tried and really liked is ok. It has 13 g sugar total (3 of which are added, 10 natural) Along those same lines how many grams of natural sugars ARE ok post op? The rule of thumb I was given is to try and stay under 10 grams/serving, but didn't know If that was total or added. Also, if something has say 13 but I am only able to eat a half serving, is that ok? Sorry if I rambled and im really NOT stupid, I swear....lol

    July surgery

I’m posting again since I didn’t give that much information. I’m July 18th, sleeve, at Fort Gordon Georgia. I’ve been on my liquid diet for 10 days this far. I have cheated with egg drop soup... I find several doctors have different diet requests. No sugar for 10 days and that doesn’t bother we... what I want is a piece of chicken 🍗 😆 I started this process last February and had to go thru some things twice. It didn’t take me that long, I wasn’t emotionally prepared since my brother passed away unexpectedly in 2015. But now I’m ready 🙏🏼. I have to say I’m more nervous about the possible complications versus the meal/diet/ lifestyle changes. And I’m a RN did we over think 🤔 everything. I 🙏🏼 for positive outcomes for everyone and healthy healing... 😃
  24. 10 months out and I still struggle with this.. I just try my best to remember...

4 weeks post op no appetite

I had no appetite for several months. Didn’t meet my requirements- but taken plenty of vitamins. Now I’m often hungry 10 months out. Taste buds completely changed. I get full very easily though- can eat 1/4 cup to 1/2 cup at a time. Do the best you can. That’s all you can do. Over stressing won’t help.
