My surgeon wouldn't even schedule surgery until I had lost 10% of my excess weight. It depends on your team, but you might not get to the pre-op diet without some work first. Sent from my SM-G925V using the BariatricPal App

Freezing after about 3.5 months post vertical sleeve
iegal replied to overboard's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hate to be the bearer of bad new...but I have been on maintenance for almost 8 months (surgery was 9/17/10 - goal in early Feb 11) and I still am cold most of the time. Even living in sunny CA suffer from chills all the time. Now I carry a jacket in my trunk for those times when a restaurant is too cold or I am stuck. Suggestion - socks and fleece. Face it, better thin and cold than sweaty and obese. No regrets, I love my sleeve. -
My name's Jessica. I was banded in 10/06 by the fabulous Dr Aviv Ben-Meir at St Vincent Charity Hospital Center for Bariatric Surgery in Cleveland, Ohio. I'm here for support...which I should've been looking for um, around the time i had surgery? But nobody ever said I did things in the right order, lol. I still have about 80 pounds to go, and i'm having problems staying motivated...

Yup, I am in my fourth week and get my first fill a week from today. I am very ready. I am using a certain size of rubbermaid type container to eat out of to help me recognize when it is time to quit eating. Usually within 10 minutes of stopping eating, the desire to eat more goes away. I never feel "full" but am getting to where I recognize real hunger. I look forward to the fill hopefully making this easier. I have 3 cc now, left in at surgery (10 cc band).

Pysch Eval- what kind of questions do they ask?
Mickey527 replied to oherin's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
WOW!!! My psych eval was nothing like any of yours. I was asked about my weight loss gain history, my health issues,my family history of weight and health issues, what my goals are with weight loss. I have lost and gained 50 or more lbs 4 times in my life so she said that I do show that the lap band will work for me. I do have health issues that will be lessened with weight loss so that was on my side too. I do have a family of overweight people, my parents, sister and 4 brothers are all overweight and have heart problems. My sister was the only one who did something about it, she had GBP but she cheats alot. I did say that my main reason for wanting to lose weight was to play on the floor with my grandson and to stay alive to see him become an adult. My mom died when she was 72 and my dad at 80 but their being overweight and the health problems didn't help much. My mother's mother (grandma) was thin (size 12) and she lived to be 99 and 10 months. I never had any questions about killing, and didn't have a form to fill out or any type of test. -
Apart from the cost of actual surgery, the cost of fills here (along w/ most other healthcare) is ridiculously cheap. A fill at the Dr. I consulted w/ is less than $10!

Gallbladder and lapband surgeries
BayougirlMrsS replied to buckeyegirl4's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok, so i had my GB removed years before my LB. I have to still agree with Mis73. I ate and still do eat: Dairy Products Especially cheese Peanut Butter Red meat Raw Vegetables (i don't eat these because i don't like them. and now because of the band) Caffeine Alcohol I removed the fried and high fat, because those are correct. I also had trouble in the beginning with eggs & corn. Each person is different. I have a friend that still... 10+ years later still has to take a power every day or she will have diarrhea. some doctors will remove the GB at time of LB surg. due to the weight loss, most people will develop GB problems. But, the LB it self does not cause GB problems.... -
Hi heather! I am in Yuba City, so not too far away. I havent felt isolated yet, mostly because my husband is really helping and i didnt hide my surgery from my coworkers. They are frequently checking up on me. I am a smidge worried about mood swings from the hormone dumps because i am bipolar and already predisposed (hence the crying over ice cream in a previous post). You can always reach out to us here... but make sure that you are not excluding, accidently or on purpose, the people around you that can be your support. HW 385 SW 359 Sleeved 10/5/16

Gallbladder Coming Out Tomorrow
Pheath replied to Wisdom2KnowTheDifference's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
They found mine during my testing for lb too. My surgeon wouldn't even consider doing them at the same time although I wished at the time he would bc my ins won't pay for LB but they did for Gb. Of course better safe. I had my GB out on 6/29 and my LB is Fri 8/10. I got my energy back about 8 days post op but felt like it was a breeze. Hope I do so well with the LB! Pennie -

You have to wait a little for cloud 9, you are on cloud 10 right now :-) Good job! I was at Marshall's a couple of days ago and oogling the bathing suits. I feel it is too early for me to buy any because I am not sure how much coverage I need over my thighs - if I have a big flap on the inside, I'd better go with a bottom that has a cut like bike pants. Same with the top, do I need a loose fitting top to cover flaps or can I use a tighter top without looking like someone through jell-o in my top? But I have to admit, those are uncertainties that I can live with compared to before where buying a bathing suit put me in agony! -
Gain weight during 6 month diet....
VDiaz3072 replied to a change is comin's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did the 6 months diet and lost only 10 pounds. The Dr told me that if you fail the 6 month diet will not affect you because that what they are going to show insurance company that we failed doing the diet. I am rigth now on the pre op liquid diet. My surgery date is 9/7. Wish you guys luck! -
I have a standard Ap 10cc band . I think the US DRs. use either 10 or 14cc now.

Adjusting the band and finding the green zone early in the journey is great. It makes everything so much easier. I've found that after some fat shrinkage between the band and stomach I needed a tiny fill to stay in the green zone. After that some of the fill does go away (osmosis or something) and I need a tiny fill every 10-12 months or so. Not much effort at all is needed after that. Just live life

Hi also new and scared
desertmom replied to Tippytoes's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
hi Tippytoe I understand what your concerns are.We also camp a lot and well, being on Atkins all my life took care of that........and gaining and losing 150 pounds 5 times in 10 years....but mostly gaining... Yip, and the liquid diet makes you ask why one isnt thin when one can actually manage to eat nothing for days? I also wonder what am I going to do? Is this for the rest of my life? But being thin and healthy is 100 persent worth sacraficing for........ As far as the not food intake is concerned it seems that people can eat almost anything to soon after the operation.Mind you that also seems to be the reason why people stop losing weight.I suppose when you look at the really successful bandsters you will see that there is always a change in what they eat and it is not completely effortless...... I think not worrying about these things would be not normal. My doctor keeps telling me the band is not a "SELF ACTING SLIMMING DEVICE" and that dietary compliance is what makes it successful. Please come back and tell us how it was and I am thinking of you. -
Hi - Ira in NJ new here
Pathworker replied to IVANinNJ's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I also live in the Bergen County area. My surgery was done on May 19 at NYU. Do you know of any support groups in the Bergen area....it is getting difficult going to the city for the groups even tho I love them, -
WOW!!! That is some serious inspiration. From a LB size 20 to Levis 10 in 5 months! I can totally relate to the jeans experience. I have NEVER worn Levis. They just weren't cut for my body back in the 80's. I'm so thrilled to hear there is hope for me yet. Not that we should compare rate of loss with others, but if I lose at that rate, I could be a size 10 by Valentines Day. :wow2: I better start saving my money because I've got a lot of shopping to do.

I have not had vsg yet but that is my plan and hope at this point . I have one ore month of supervised weight loss & then should be on my way . While having my Egd the doc said I had signs of avid acid reflux. This was new to me, I very rarely had any issues, only when I was pregnant. (3years ago). He then put me on med. for this "problem". I then within a week of taking this me started having indigestion like crazy and have felt awful ever since. I also was told during my stomach ultra sound that I have gallstones in the neck of my gallbladder . I felt like crap ever since they went fishing around doing these test. I had a attach of some sort the other day while eating dinner ( baked pork & carrots ) horrible chest pain, back pain between shoulders , hot flashes, nausea, dry heeves felt like something was stuck. Horrible pain! Went to ED, they gave me a GI cocktail and zofran. With in 10 min. I felt much better. Called the gastro doc next day & they switched me to nexium. I still have mild pain on left side of chest when I take deep breaths. And after I eat. Most psin is on left side of chest, right under sternum, and left side of stomach / abdomen . I am worried that my surgeon will say no to the sleeve due to this new issue. Anyone have issues like this before or after the surgery? So frustrated & I am so close to the finish line that I'm afraid of everything going wrong at this point. :/

Honestly I struggled with the decision too. If you are anything like me, you have probably had a life time of food indulgences. Really I am only 10 days out of surgery now and it is so nice not to feel hungry and to be content in the decision I made. People are eating all sorts of things around me and there just isn't the same connection with hunger or cravings. I have already started to feel free...trust yourself, trust your medical professionals, get a circle of support and get on with having fun and living. Just think a year from now you will not be thinking about what is the next diet you should go on because you will be where you want to be....good luck

Thank you guys so much! I'm doing a lot better this afternoon it kind of comes in waves. Sometimes I'm really excited then 10 mins later I'm freaking out. I m going to center of excellence and I know someone who had my surgeon and loved him. I asked him if I had any risk and he told me honestly no I don't see any complications with you. He's had one complication last year and it was a 600lb 65 yr. old with a lot of health issues and she had a leak. I feel like as surgeons go I have the best. My mom and dad have told me that I shouldn't worry about the surgery that its the surgeons job so I'm going to try that technique for awhile. He told me that when I come in on Tuesday they will start me on some anxiety meds almost immediately. Wish I could of had some starting Friday:) Thanks again!!

I had started mine the day before surgery. I was also on blood thinners. That cycle lasted 7 days. I had about a 10 day break and then it came back with a vengeance for two weeks… so roughly 3 out of 4 weeks I had a heavy period. Cramps were horrible with heavy clotting. I was told to watch my cycles and if it continued to check in with my gyn, but also told that it’s not out of the ordinary to have cycle disturbance early in. Also got the “very fertile” time warning but I have my tubes tied and my hubby has a vasectomy - so we are clear there.

I must be a "glass half-empty" kinda gal cuz, although I have had great results since being banded 10 months ago, I am starting to have fears of losing my band! I have had no complications and am living comfortably with my tool. What I worry about is that something will happen that will cause my band to be removed... I worry that there is only a set amount of time that the band can remain inside one's body without the body maybe rejecting it etc... Is there anybody out there that can reassure me by telling me they've had theirs for ???? years? I know that the band hasn't been around that long, but let us know how long you've had it. (Then I can find something else to worry about!! ha ha ha).
