  1. Had revision on 5/27 - 4 days ago started feeling sick and vomitting up bile. Horrendous pain. I couldn’t get liquids down. I had the same issues with the sleeve though even years out. Water bothered me all the time. Had to do sips all the time. Other liquids not so much. But nothing stayed for.  Surgeon requested a ER visit so Off I went. Turns out that something was going on. Had a contest ct scan but was normal as it was on Saturday when I had one for my large hematoma.  I just had lapro again yesterday as some of the scar tissue was giving me an issue. Was only 2 weeks. I hope this was just a flukr. They said sometimes it happens I am Hoping to go home today!!!! And this is the restart to things to come.  I know some have said you lose your restriction. Sleeve was better with that. I find restriction but could that be cause it’s a new surgery?  Hope all is well.

    Booked for Feb

Hi. I am booked for my bypass on Feb 11, 2014. I am having a revision from a vsg. I am very scared I have asked on the forum if anyone else had this done but I haven't had any response I am very nervous about that. Does anyone know of anyone who's had it done? Any help would be appreciated.
  3. Hello Everyone!! This week makes 4 weeks since I had my Revision surgery from lap band to VSG! When I started my weight loss surgery I weighed 250 lbs. The day of my revision I weighed 208.6 lbs. Last week I weighed 195 lbs, on Monday I weighed in at 192lbs. So far after revision I have lost 16.6 lbs slow but steady! I'm relearning how to eat. It is very different from the lap band! I hope everyone is doing great!! Happy new year!!
  4. @beautifulmess @atlantared hey! May I ask why a “revision”? I wish I saw this yesterday when I was at my surgeons for an appt, I asked him why sleeve was a better option. He didn’t say specifically that sleeve is better he said that it’s safer. But now seeing that you are both having revisions. What would be the reason for a revision?
  5. I found a really nice website called Sugerysquad.com that shows an interactive surgery that you can assist in. You can really learn a lot about the surgery and it should allieve some of your fears . I had the sleeve 2 1/2 years and Im having to do a revision to the bypass in the next couple of months. I was really scared but once I played the interactive surgery game, I felt a lot more comfortable. Give it a try and let me know what you think.

Expected weight loss at 6 months out

I just had a band to bypass revision last week and my surgeon said the revisions she has done lost weight at the same rate as non-revisions. She also said the main weight loss period is a year to 18 months. Hope that helps.
  7. Well not quite but it certainly feels like it. I'm finally home from hospital after spending 5 nights there rather than the planned 3 - 4. Went in for surgery last Thursday. Removal of band, repair of hiatus hernia and revision to RNY. The surgery took about 3 hours and was apparently pretty standard. Came round in recovery , felt ok and was taken back to my ward. Still felt ok. No real pain or nausea which is always a bonus. Had my glass of ice to suck when I suddenly started to feel really strange. Hit the call button and when the nurse came in told him (or her can't remember now) that I thought they may need the crash cart. By this stage my monitors had started going crazy as my BP was dropping through the floor so the first Met call was placed. Most of the nurses from the floor came rushing into my room and I was convinced I was going to die. All I could think was no how stupid am I , why did I do this, what on earth will my Mum and kids and hubby etc say. They got me partially stabilised and I stopped feeling dizzy and then I started shivering like mad ( another sign of hypovolemic shock) . I kept telling the nurse I was cold which was hardly surprising since they had me mainly uncovered but she was trying to concentrate on getting a cathline in and it wasn't working as my veins had all collapsed. 2nd met call placed and a couple of ED docs came in as well. They were ultrasounding me to see if they could find some blood loss and my BP was down to 75/45 My surgeon was contacted ( I think he was still in surgery at this point) and it was arranged to take me back to theatre urgently. At some point I apparently had a CAT scan but I don't know when as by that time I was very groggy and I am sure my recollection of the true events is severely impaired.I have since heard that they went back in , looked for a leak , cleaned me up etc. I don't think they found anything significant but I don't know the full details. I recall waking up in ICU and thinking oh I'm still alive which was a relief but I still wasn't confident that things couldn't change. Friday sometime I was deemed fit enough to be transferred back to the normal ward. Again I was doing fine on clear liquids, had no pain and wasn't using my Fentanyl pump excessively but I definitely felt like I had been hit by a bus. Zero energy and like a washed out dishrag. That could be expected after major surgery except I am usually the one that is bouncing around the ward in record time amazing everyone. I felt so good after my hysterectomy that I kept getting out of bed to go somewere forgetting I had a pain pump attached! Physician ordered more blood tests to check my HB levels, apparently they were still really low even though I had been given 2 units of blood in the second surgery so Saturday evening I received another 2 units of blood. My temp spiked slightly whilst the first lot was going in but the on call Dr told them it was OK to continue. I was lying there think yep I'm not out of the woods yet and being anxious is probably not good for recovery. By Sunday I was getting a bit frustrated with food as I was still on clear fluids , I think the extended stay confused the hospital kitchens and the weekend staff.Especially as by this stage I had been told I had to do a NO 2 before I could go home and obviously that wasn't possible with what was in me. I refused to take the lactulose as last time it had me in agony for hours and wasn't going to go through that again. I did behave and take 2 doses of Movicol on consecutive days which eventually had the desired effect. I also find it annoying that as a bariatric patient the kitchen brings all your food for each meal in one go and then they don't look happy when they have to take melted jelly and sour yogurt back a couple of hours later! We won't talk about that yogurt it was vile, sour, unflavoured drinking yogurt, it wasn't even palatable when it was fresh. I finally started some Optifast yesterday and was hoping the protein would help boost my energy levels. Sadly it didn't. The best meal of the stay was some delicious cauliflower soup. On Sunday my Physician ordered a Physio check on me but when they tried to contact her she had already finished her shift!!!!@@@@###( Does make you wonder why you pay for a private hospital). Got to see her yesterday and she just checked on my breathing exercises, made sure I was walking ok and gave me tips for when I got to go home. My energy levels by then were still zero, if I managed to do the recommended walking it would wipe me out for the rest of the day. I have no idea how people walk off their gas pain so its a good job I didn't really have much. I climbed into bed to try and get some sleep and then realised I could hear voices under my pillow. Can you imagine the state of my mind by now? I concentrated on the voices and then realised it was my breathing, some of the worst wheezing you have ever heard. I called the nurse in and told her and I think she made a note but nothing else happened. They change shifts at 9.30 so it was probably 8pm ish when I raised it again and said how frustrated I was. Surely it wouldn't have been that hard to get someone to check on me. Maybe nurses dont know how to use stethoscopes, thats fine but there must have been some Drs in the hospital somewhere. Then the **** hit the fan as the person in the room adjacent to me had a seizure so they had an emergency situation to handle which meant they went home late which meant that despite their promises they didn't call and speak to a DR. I am sure if they had one would have telephonically ordered a blood test or an xray or told them to give me some salbutomol. I swear I slept for a max of an hour last night. It was so uncomfortable. I couldn't get into a position where I felt I could breath properly. The wheezing was loud enough to wake the dead and I had the sensation of popcorn popping in my throat! Half way through the night the nurse must have realised there was a problem as she came and put the O2 back on me. I was terrified. I even messaged my hubby in the early hours telling him I was scared and asking him to get there as soon as possible in the am so he could be there when the drs did their rounds. Dr this morning was lovely, he couldn't understand why someone hadn't called him. He decided it sounded like Asthma( which I haven't formerley been diagnosed with) so ordered me to be nebulised. It seemed to help so I have now been sent home with an inhaler and spacer. It still seems pretty bad when I lay down so may have to try and sleep sitting up for a few nights. I don't regret having had the surgery now it is behind me but had I known how close things were going to be I would definitely have thought about it a little bit harder. I thought that I had done my research and that the odds were good but maybe I was a little too blase.I will definitely only be having future surgery if I really have to and even then I shall be absolutely terrified. Hope I haven't bored you all with my long story and if anyone else got Asthma after surgery would love to hear from you.
  8. Hi Lisa, Thanks for taking up with the booking. I haven't been to LBT for a couple of days. I am still coming along, with hubby and 5yo son. Jenny was planning on coming too - but I haven't heard from her for awhile. I'll send her an email right after this message. Pavarthi (Jess) was hoping to come along too, maybe with her daughter (age 7??). I have also invited Andy (spaldo2) and his Melb Marathon team - but I don't think they can make it. Wheeler - sorry you're not well - I don't think fee meant any insult - from her other posts she seems quite gentle.... I know you've been under the weather lately. Are you still booked for your band revision / replacement on 4th Oct?? Hope it goes well, and that you're on top of it soon. My surgery is the day after yours - so I'll be thinking about you. Wish we were going together :biggrin1: Don't feel bad about missing the lunch, we understand. We'll miss you on Sat, but you'd be more than welcome to drop in if you feel up to it. Looking forward to Saturday - remember, I'll be the one chowing down on the ginormous steak :hungry: - I've still got 7 sleeps to go before the pre-op diet has to start! hee hee hee. :hungry: :hungry: :hungry: (but seriously, I'm joking - I'm really planning to have grilled fish and vegetables...:biggrin1: )

    August 27th banders!

I was originally banded in 2003 and had a revision with plication yesterday and so far so good! My procedure was to last approximately 60-90 minutes and took over 4 hours as I apparently had a great deal of scar tissue and adhesions on my liver from a previous gallbladder removal as well as other abdominal surgery. My surgeon said that I would be extremely sore with the amount of work that he had to do inside however, I'm feeling pretty good...just like I had a really hard ab workout. Luckily no gas and/or shoulder pains as I had with my original surgery. My biggest problem is nursing my daughter as she just turned one and is now a wiggle worm and likes to contort herself in to many different positions which involve wriggling on my tummy. Unfortunately I strayed from my original surgeon due to an emergency situation to a surgeon that practices in my area and for the past 3 years have struggled as he felt that 2cc's in a 10 cc band was adequate and that once I had a 'good' fill that I would never need another adjustment. Unfortunately I wasn't even able to maintain a fill as he poked a bunch of holes in my tubing and that wasn't found until I returned to my original surgeon who did the revision yesterday. I'm elated at this point that I am able to take a few sips and be full.....heck last week I was able to eat a hamburger off the grill with the bun, baked Beans, and a cucumber salad! My surgeon did ask me what my current fill level was so that he could make sure to place an adequate fill in surgery minus a little to compensate for swelling. I'm finally feeling positive being back on the 'band' wagon and know that my new journey is a fresh start and sooner or later I will get back to goal and the point I was prior to my setbacks.
  10. Things are going very well. No goals since it was more about my Gerd which seems to be resolved (Yay lol). I'm 28 lbs. down now, and I think the revision was the best thing I could have done for myself. As my surgeon said after my post-op appointment... It's already a win then if my Gerd is gone. I did bring up the fact that I can't eat very much and my calories are 500-700 cal. at best and he said "Good. Keep it that way for awhile to lose more weight." That's about all he said lol. One thing that has helped my appetite or lack thereof, is I can sleep much better because I'm not constantly waking up with acid in my throat anymore. Waking up and not being able to sleep always tempted me to munch on something for energy instead of sleep. Thank you so much for asking!
  11. Ahhh, I wanted to add that my throat no longer burns all day and I can sleep without acid rushing up to my mouth. The revision was successful (so far) for the original purpose and that was Gerd/esophagitis.
  12. So, yes, *typically* revisions lose less quickly than first timers. But that doesn't mean that's what it'll be like for you, just something you have to be aware of *if* it happens. I'm down over 100 lbs since March. Not sure if that's typical or more... I'm at the point now where my weight loss as slowed down greatly, I could easily move to maintenance if I wished to stay at this weight, but I want to go a bit lower so I'm still working on it, but it sure has gotten much harder to do. Check out my post It was 20 lbs or so ago now, but it still holds true

    Signed.....confused....

I had the lapband as well but, I had issues with mine. It was put in 2/2006, revised doe to a slight prolaps in 12/2008 and then ultimately removed in 1/2010 because of a severe prolaps. My lapband was no longer facing my left shoulder it was facing my left foot. Not good! The first year with the band was good, I lost about 80 pounds but, then the trouble started. Slowly but surely the weight came back because we never got the fill correct after the first revision. I went unfilled for so long. After it was removed......it took a long time to adjust to not having it anymore. It was a tool for so long even when it didn't work right. I had to heal up at least 6 months before they would consider doing another surgery. Basically.....I got the lapband because I was nervous about my organs being reorganized. But.....it's been 6 years since 2006 and the surgery has come a long way and fewer complications. AFter seeing more weight come back on, I decided RNY was for me because I did well with the band and it's small pouch area....so I knew I'd do well with a RNY size pouch. I actually like that fact that dumping can occur and I won't test that ground. I don't want to dump and I don't want to find out if I don't dump. A healthy fear of it keeps me away from fats and sugar which help me get fat in the first place. I thought of the sleeve as well but, my surgeon said there was more chance of an ulcer and the sleeve hasn't been around long enough for the long term studies. RNY has been around for many years now and it's proven to work. So I decided to have the RNY. Everyone has to make their own decision though. Good luck and I hope my answers help a bit.

    Band Removal In Mexico

HI, Yes, Dr Aceves did my band to sleeve revision 13 months ago at one time. He is in Mexicali and operates in a private hospital. He and his staff are great and they have done 100s of revisions. He isn't the cheapest but I was not looking for the cheapest I was looking for a great hospital and a great Dr. Good Luck to you.
  15. First of all, Congratulations on the 120 lb loss! That's absolutely amazing! You must have already noticed a big difference with being over halfway to your goal. With regards to your stall, you sound like you're doing everything right, so I guess the next thing is to check with your nutritionist or a dietician and see what s/he has to say. Have you gotten your body fat % checked? Is that going down? Any other non-scale measurements changing? Maybe your body is at a resting point for the time being. I don't know about other people, but I'm finding as I go down, my body wants to "stick" at points that I've spent a lot of time at in the past. Maybe this is something you really just have to wait out. I know other people have written about stalling for months and months at a time. Please don't take offense, but Is revising the sleeve to another kind of WLS an option for you or something you'd be willing to consider? Maybe you need a little bit more help to get through the second half of your WLS journey.

    My 2 year Bandiversary

Congrats! You inspire me! I have a couple of questions....I am one year out...lost 70 lbs in 7 months then nothing for the next 5...found out my port was flipped...had a revision and now lose and gain the same 5 lbs over and over so my question....did you have periods where you didn't lose and how long did it last? Also, any suggestions to get the weight going down again...my initial goal was to lose 80-90 lbs. Thanks!

Need Lap Band Buddy / Mentor 2010 Goal Challenge: Let's do this!!

Hello there caramia, You know, it's so funny you bring this thread back up. I've struggled up until about last month. I received *yet* another fill - but somehow - someway it has turned out to be a crazy miracle fill. Usually by now I'm struggling again with hunger and amount I can eat. Not only that if I were to get more I'm sure I'd start falling into the "too tight" category. But, this time it has been so fantastic. Before this last fill I was thinking about revisions and maybe even just taking the band out. But, after the fill I've been eating small portions and really haven't given second thought to anything associated with dieting. I pretty much eat what I want, when I want. Sometimes healthy, sometimes not. I've slowed down on my exercise too. I do maybe 5 days a week for about 30 minutes per day. Very miniscule to what I'm used to. The great thing is though I'm averaging about 1 Lbs lost per week. Again, I'm not even trying. I'll ride this for as long as I can, until then I'll just live my life.
  18. Hey everyone! I'm having a revision from a band to a bypass in either may or June. I have to finish up my sleep study and upper GI. Hopefully I come up negative on the sleep study or I will have to wear a cpap for 30 days Good luck to everyone on this journey Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Vacation after surgery.

It would have been fine for me 6/7 weeks out but I think it has a lot to do with where you are fitness wise going into the surgery. I had a sleeve three years ago and then a bypass revision due to GERD four weeks ago, and for both surgeries I would have been able to do a walking heavy trip by that point. That being said, if you already don't walk a lot and the weeks following surgery are your first to really up your exercise, I can see why that would present a big challenge. I don't think pain will be an issue as much as fatigue. Take lots of breaks, drink lots of water, and go at a pace that works for you!
  20. family, friends and co-workers were not happy about me revising from the lapband to the sleeve and going to Mexico alone sent everyone over the edge. they all knew that getting angry wouldn't change my mind but guilt would almost stop me in my tracks. i'm SO thankful, in the end, that my sister held back my 15 year old niece's feelings. i guess on their way home from their last visit with me before surgery, Ashley cried the entire ride home. if i had known that, i would have cancelled the surgery. here i was thinking about myself and i never wanted to give much thought to what everyone else was feeling. it made my recover in mexico even worse because there was a 3 hour time difference. the day of my surgery, i was out of it and i assumed someone had called my parents... nope, no one did... so i got an earful when i called home the day after surgery. then on my 3rd day in mexico i was literally running all over... trasferring to the hotel, getting my drain out, getting a leak test... that i forgot to call home. somehow my mom tracked me down at the hotel and gave me hell. in her mind, something had happened and i was rushed back into surgery. i just kept saying "i'm sorry, i'm sorry". looking back at it, it WAS selfish of me not to think about everyone's feelings BUT i did what i needed to do to be happy.
  21. This was over a month ago. How are things going? Did your surgeon give you goals? Do you still believe that your decision to have revision was sound? Thanks for sharing so much info already. Sent from my SM-G965U using BariatricPal mobile app
  22. Hi! I’m hoping someone has some insight for me. I’m a year out and in August I had some sort of “attack” i felt pressure in my chest and back my throat I started sweating and really felt like I was going to pass out. I was sitting on the beach not exerting myself however I had overdone it the night before drinking and eating. The next time it woke me up and again the night before I had eaten red meat (not usual) and had wine (somewhat usual). After that I went to the dr had an ekg and a stress test all great. I exercise (run). The past week I’ve had 2 more “attacks”. Today I was on he phone and I couldn’t talk from all the pressure in my chest. I know GERD is a thing for sleeve patients but google searches don’t match up with what is happening. My dr said it’s indigestion and to take Prilosec which i will do but it seems it comes from nowhere and so fast! I see my surgeon for my yearly next week but I wanted to see if anyone has had any experiences similar?? Thanks! Band to sleeve revision surgery 1/16/17 HW: 283 CW: 177 GW: 160
  23. Unfortunately, yes. I never had reflux before that. That is why my surgeon told me I had to get a revision. Not everyone gets reflux from sleeve but I don't know the percentage who does. Sent from my SM-N986U using BariatricPal mobile app
  24. How long till my belly will not be Swollen? I had revision from band to bypass. Lost 16 lbs since 11/10! But not in my belly. Ugh Sent from my SM-G920T using BariatricPal mobile app

    Celebrate Brand Vitamins, etc.?

Thanks for your response! I'm revising, or I should say "adding" a DS to my sleeve. Since I had my sleeve years ago, my surgeon has disallowed caffeine. This is a big deal for me because my favorite shakes are by Click and they are loaded with caffeine! Recommendations welcome!
